In today's episode, we're diving into an important conversation about relationships—how to recognize real friendships from faux ones, and why understanding the Relationship Ladder is crucial for dating, friendships, and beyond. Inspired by a recent marriage retreat and my latest blog post, “Friend or Faux,” we'll explore the five rungs of the relationship ladder: Knowledge, Recreation, Emotion, Spiritual, and Physical. We'll talk about which apply to all relationships and which are reserved for marriage. Plus, I'll share why I raised the dating age for my youngest to 18 and how we can help our kids—and ourselves—navigate relationships with biblical wisdom and clarity. Don't miss this one—it's foundational.
Today, we're discussing the recent controversy surrounding Shiloh Hendrix, who called a black child a racial slur at a playground instead of taking the concern to the child's parents. This behavior is not only unacceptable—it's unchristian. As followers of Christ, we are called to be above reproach (1 Timothy 3:2), especially when dealing with the next generation. God will not judge us by our skin color, so why are we so quick to judge others by theirs? We can simultaneously be aware of the statistics about certain cultures within particular races, and realize that this is not how we handle those problems. We'll explore the biblical approach to conflict resolution. When there's a problem with a child's behavior, the godly route is to speak directly with their parents—not to attack the child. Christians must hold one another accountable. --https://policecoffee.com/collections/coffee

On the next Treasured Truth, as we conclude our look at good and godly relationships, our study today will emphasize how crucial commitment is in a relationship, even before marriage. Pastor Ford will explain that allowing commitment to be part of the foundation of your relationship will bring important disclosure of things you need to know before you make the ultimate commitment in marriage. As we once again continue our study in the book of Ruth on the next Treasured Truth, Pastor Ford will point out that Ruth met Boaz in the everyday, normal routine of life. And through His providence, God had prepared her to meet this man who would become her future husband, and God prepared Boaz to meet her. We’ll see how important it is to wait on God’s direction and preparation when we are seeking good and godly relationships. Learn more when you join us for the next Treasured Truth. On the next Treasured Truth, Pastor Ford will explain that the foundation of a Christian marriage is being “equally yoked,” meaning both people have a genuine faith in Jesus Christ. That’s where you start. And that awareness should be established at the beginning of the relationship. So once we find a person who professes faith in Christ, who we want to pursue a relationship with, then we should find out if their faith is truly genuine before committing to them in marriage. According to Pastor Ford, there are certain things we need when we’re seeking to build a godly relationship. From the beginning of our relationship and especially in our marriage—we need someone who will not give up on us, but who will instead commit to give up for us. We need to seek someone who understands that sacrifice is part of a relationship. And we need to be willing to become sacrificial ourselves as we take part in the relationship. The thing that separates a good marriage from all other marriages, is the ability of the couple to deal with conflict. And on the next Treasured Truth, Pastor Ford will help us understand that if we don’t deal with conflict in our marriage biblically, then conflict will deal with us. On the next Treasured Truth, Pastor Ford will remind us that if we will give God our marriage relationship, then God will make sure that we have the quality relationship that He wants us to have. But we don’t start the process of surrendering our relationship to God when we get married. We should start it before we get married. When you join us for today's Treasured Truth, Pastor Ford will have some suggestions to help us when we are analyzing the commitment level of a person in a relationship. He’ll suggest that one thing we need to do is try to see how that person behaves in a crisis. Why? Because it’s easy to keep a commitment when there’s no drama. But what does a person do when there’s drama? We need to know that the person will stick around during a crisis and that they made the decision to commit to a relationship based on counting the cost. A lot of people are in relationships with people who are “photo-shopped.” They're not really who they appear to be. What they have on is a whole lot of make-up and a costume designed to impress. And unfortunately, you can't see them for who they really are until after you marry them. So, when you join us for the next Treasured Truth, we'll be encouraged by Pastor Ford to dig deep and find out who the person really is before committing to them in marriage. So, be sure to join us as we continue our teaching series from the book of Ruth called “Principles for Good and Godly Relationships.” Treasured Truth is a listener supported program on Moody Radio. When you join us for the next Treasured Truth, we'll learn that God has designed for marriage to be a union of two forgivers. And Pastor Ford will help us understand that whatever we have to forgive to fulfill the vow that we made—until death do us part—that's the kind of commitment that we're supposed to have in our marriage. On the next Treasured Truth, we'll continue our study in the book of Ruth. Pastor Ford will describe how many of us date our spouse to marry them, instead of marrying our spouse with the intention of dating them the rest of our lives. And what we fail to realize is that we have to put as much or more effort into keeping our spouse as we did into getting them in the first place. We can be certain that God can heal a broken heart. We just need to give Him all the pieces. And especially before marriage, we need to make sure that we're whole. Why? Because, if we're broken and if our potential spouse is broken, then our marriage is not going to be whole. And when you join us for the next Treasured Truth, Pastor Ford will explain that we need to realize that a half a man and a half a woman equals one whole mess! When you join us for the next Treasured Truth, Pastor Ford will explain there is a difference between attraction and attachment in relationships. The physical is meant to attract you to someone but not attach you to them. That's because some people look a certain way without truly being who you think they are. Some folks pretend to be someone who they never intend to truly be. So we need to be sure to dig deep and find out who they really are before we make a commitment. On the next Treasured Truth, we'll continue our study in the book of Ruth. And Pastor Ford will talk about the need we have today for more men and women like Boaz and Ruth, because they were faithful to do what was right before they married. And if someone is faithful in doing the right things before marriage, then it's more likely that they'll be faithful to do the right things after marriage. In I Peter 3:7, a husband is instructed to dwell with his wife according to knowledge. And on the next Treasured Truth, Pastor Ford will explain that means a husband should go deep into the process of trying to understand his wife. And by the grace of God, he should try as much as he can to figure out what makes her tick and what ticks her off. Why aren't some people ready for marriage? Because we're not ready to get married to someone else until we get a divorce from ourselves. There needs to be two funerals before there can be one marriage. And on the next Treasured Truth, Pastor Ford will explain that we have to die to self before we can give ourselves fully in marriage. Too many people are getting into marriage for what they can get out of the relationship. But on the next Treasured Truth, Pastor Ford will explain that we're not supposed to be going into a marriage so that we can get something. We should be going into marriage to give something to our wife or husband. If you're considering marriage or are already in a marriage relationship, consider this—what are you bringing to give? When you join us for the next Treasured Truth, we'll begin a study from the book of Ruth. Pastor Ford will explain that the problem in most marriages is not necessarily what happens in the marriage.
