For over 150 years, Manly's Q Station served as a quarantine site for those arriving in Australia, isolating the sick to prevent deadly diseases from spreading. Thousands of people passed through its doors, many never leaving, their final moments spent in its eerie hospital wards and secluded burial sites. Today, its historic sandstone buildings and abandoned corridors stand as a chilling reminder of its haunted past, with countless stories of ghostly encounters and unexplained phenomena. We experienced this history firsthand on a ghost tour, walking through the shadowy hallways and dimly lit rooms where spirits are said to linger. From strange whispers in the darkness to sudden drops in temperature, the atmosphere was thick with an unsettling energy. Whether it was our imagination or something truly otherworldly, one thing was certain—Q Station's past is far from silent.

One of Australia's most haunted locations sits in the same harbor as one of the country's most visited landmarks. Across the bay from the Opera House lies the remnants of the oldest and longest running Quarantine station in Oz's history. North Head, Sydney Australia is situated at the entrance of one of the world's most beautiful and well know harbours, and for many years, ships and their passengers were forced to quarantine off shore to make certain that epidemics like the bubonic plague, Spanish influenza and small pox didn't run rampant throughout the country. Many people were infected whilst on board the long sea voyage to Australia and so a place on land was allocated to restrain the sick while they regained their health, but far enough away from the general population to avoid spreading diseases further. Quarantine Station Manly was such a place. The old buildings that remain on this site remind us of the ever present threat that a pandemic can cause, and back in the 1800's treatment for such diseases may have meant months of pain and sometimes an agonising death. In this week's episode of the True Haunting Podcast we arrive at Q Station Manly, to be stripped, showered and quarantined so we can find out who or what still lingers within the walls of the buildings that once housed the sick and dying. Quarantine Station, or Q Station as it is more commonly known, is a heritage site located in Manly, which is a suburb of Sydney in Australia. This site was used as a quarantine station from 1833 until 1983 to help prevent illness from entering the country. Many people died during quarantine and conditions weren't great. After the station closed, it reopened as a historic park with a hotel. This site is reportedly one of the most haunted locations in all of Australia! Happy Spooky Wednesday, folks! Kala is back from vacation and we are ready to rock your world with some overseas spooky stories! First up, Kala has a listener request for The Black Shuck of Europe! This dog-like apparition has been seen in many cultures, and for centuries it has been recognized as an omen of DOOM. Whether that doom be death, injury, or just bad luck seems to be up for interpretation. Whether you believe in the omen thing or not, with this many personal encounters it's hard to deny that these creatures really exist. And Brittany tells us about Q Station in Sydney, Australia. This gorgeous hotel and venue has a dark past full of disease and death. Its origins as a place for people to quarantine due to ship-borne diseases and pandemics throughout history has led to the location being a perfect dwelling place for spirits. Whether it is the past patients or the nurses that treated them, plenty of ghosts roam the area, and it makes sense with the hundreds of people that died there. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/leftofskeptic/support

Braydon and Belinda are back speaking about two spooky stories! Belinda starts the episode out by chatting about the Q Station. A quarantine station in Sydney's North Head where approximately 600 people died during its 150 years of operation. The Q Station is said to be haunted by all manner of terrifying ghosts and ghouls, and serves now as a "luxury" hotel and resort.Braydon goes on to discuss the haunted ventriloquist doll known as Mr Fritz, who was made by a captured soldier in a German POW camp in WW2. The doll delighted many of the other prisoners and kept morale high. Upon the owner's death, it was sent back to the US and found its way to an antique shop, where it passed its way through different hands. Each owner experienced strange paranormal activity while Mr Fritz was in their home, and footage of Mr Fritz moving has circulated the internet. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
When travelling, if you were suspected of being ill, you would be taken to the quarantine station, isolated from the rest of the world.
