The wreck is strongly associated with decorated war veteran, diver, author, musician and celebrity Jack Wong Sue OAM.As a Liberty Ship it is significant as part of the largest production run of ships ever achieved and representative of the shift from riveted construction to prefabricated and welded shipbuilding. Even though Corvin Castle looks like it's coming straight from a fairy tale book, its history is quite dark. Its history tells of a place of torture and death. A torture chamber can be found in the dungeon and apart from some very interesting torture devices, it houses a bear pit as well. Prisoners who were sentenced to death were thrown in this pit and eaten alive by the hungry bears below.Tourists are told that Vlad Tepes, known as Vlad the Impaler or the real-life inspiration for Dracula, was held prisoner for 7 years at Corvin Castle. Because of this story, the Castle was the source of inspiration for Castle Dracula in Bram Stoker's 1897 horror novel “Dracula”.In this episode of the True Hauntings podcast we go to Romania where we will explore the legends and ghost stories of Corvin Castle and find out whether this is the Castle where Dracula's spirit continues to terrorise people. As always -We hope you enjoy this episode - please leave a review and jump on over to our True Hauntings Fans Facebook page and tell us.LOVE OUR WORK?Consider supporting our work by buying us a "cup of coffee" https://www.buymeacoffee.com/anneandrenataORbecome a Grand Poobah Patreon supporter, and join our inner circle of craziness!https://www.patreon.com/anneandrenataJoin us on our Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/TrueHauntingsPodcastP.S. With 1,000 years of history to its name, Oxford Castle & Prison has seen many people come and go, but some remain long after their first departure… Oxford Castle & Prison was recognised by the BBC as one of the most haunted buildings in the UK.Paranormal Investigators have made contact with many spirits that haunt the Castle and its grounds. The site has seen conflict and invasions in its early history and then it became a prison which added another layer of misery and torture – if ever there was going to be some residual energy in a place then it's surely going to be found inside Oxford Castle.Just a few days before this podcast was released we visited Oxford Castle and got to take part in a ghost hunt from 10pm to 3am.There were a few areas opened to us including some of the cells, the crypt, the mound in the Castle grounds where the first timber building stood and an upstairs area where prisoners were kept standing in their on bodily fluids. The night was a unique opportunity to take part in an investigation rather than leading one.We had activity in the area under the mound where there was a well and also in the area of both the crypt with a very strong ouija board session in the last twenty minutes of the evening and also in the area of the old cell block. We totally recommend a visit to Oxford Castle.ANNOUNCING OUR NEW ENGLAND AND SALEM TOUR THIS OCTOBERWould you like to go to Salem and New England this Halloween on a fully escorted tour with Anne and Renata - Frightfully Good and Neil Storey Historian and Storyteller to enjoy Halloween, Ghosts, Witches and Vampires!Check out our upcoming 10 DAY tour with Mysterious Adventures - your links for further details are in the event.https://fb.me/e/4gyeq4CziLOVE OUR WORK?Consider supporting our work by buying us a "cup of coffee" https://www.buymeacoffee.com/anneandrenataORbecome a Grand Poobah Patreon supporter, and join our inner circle of craziness!https://www.patreon.com/anneandrenataJoin us on our Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/TrueHauntingsPodcastP.S. Ashwell Prison has been home to many criminals, and like other penal establishments it has witnessed plenty of negative emotions, violence and deaths. The prison is said to be plagued by strange sounds, shadows are seen moving across derelict rooms and footsteps are said to follow the unsuspecting visitor. There have also been many reports of dark shadowy figures throughout the prison buildings and in its grounds, and visitors say they have felt like they're being pushed out of cell doors, as though the former inmate doesn't want them invading his space. We look into the stories of Ashwell Prison before we too spend a night alone within the walls of the Jail in March. North Head, Sydney Australia is situated at the entrance of one of the world's most beautiful and well know harbours, and for many years, ships and their passengers were forced to quarantine off shore to make certain that epidemics like the bubonic plague, Spanish influenza and small pox didn't run rampant throughout the country. Many people were infected whilst on board the long sea voyage to Australia and so a place on land was allocated to restrain the sick while they regained their health, but far enough away from the general population to avoid spreading diseases further. Quarantine Station Manly was such a place. The old buildings that remain on this site remind us of the ever present threat that a pandemic can cause, and back in the 1800's treatment for such diseases may have meant months of pain and sometimes an agonising death. In this week's episode of the True Haunting Podcast we arrive at Q Station Manly, to be stripped, showered and quarantined so we can find out who or what still lingers within the walls of the buildings that once housed the sick and dying. Sometime in the early 1700's, probably a few years before the 1718 founding of New Orleans as the colonial seat of government, a French settler selected this site for the fulfillment of his aspirations. It was he who planted the twenty-eight live oak trees in two rows of fourteen each, eighty feet apart, to form an avenue of trees, a quarter mile in length leading to the Mississippi River.Back in the early 19th century, around 1836, the land that is now Oak Alley was acquired by a French Creole named Jacques Telesphore Roman. But back then, it wasn't known as Oak Alley; it was called Bon, Séjour SEDGOR which in French means "good living" – a pretty fitting name for what they hoped this place would become. This magnificent mansion would have made local society weak at the knees! Yet it also held a dozens of enslaved who were the private property of the plantation owner. Is this place haunted? We did not have access to the main house, but we stayed in cottages nestled at a distance. In our investigation we DID capture a voice that answered our question. We were in one of the 100 year old cottages. You will hear more about this in one of our upcoming episodes where we will talk about the experiences we had during our New Orleans trip.LOVE OUR WORK?Consider supporting our work by buying us a "cup of coffee" https://www.buymeacoffee.com/anneandrenataORbecome a Grand Poobah Patreon supporter, and join our inner circle of craziness!https://www.patreon.com/anneandrenataJoin us on our Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/TrueHauntingsPodcastP.S. New Orleans is considered the No. 1 haunted city in the USA — the dead people outnumber the living 10 to 1. The city has the highest missing persons rate and a steep murder rate. When Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne claimed New Orleans, the Native Americans told him the area was used as their burial ground, and any city placed atop of it would be cursed. The city has since experienced its fair share of diseases, fires and hurricanes. With tales of vampires and voodoo queens, the city has become a drawcard for the curious and macabre. We are travelling to New Orleans this October and are staying right in the French Quarter. One of the oldest buildings standing in that part of the city is the old Ursuline Convent building, and as much as the nuns of the order were focused on the spiritual wellbeing of the people something, very weird caught the attention of the city dwellers back in the 1700's, that was so terrifying that no one dared venture out at night for fear of death.Myth?Legend?Truth?Whatever - we all love a great vampire story and this one comes from the home of vampires in the USA - New Orleans itself.LOVE OUR WORK?Consider supporting our work by buying us a "cup of coffee" https://www.buymeacoffee.com/anneandrenataORbecome a Grand Poobah Patreon supporter, and join our inner circle of craziness!https://www.patreon.com/anneandrenataJoin us on our Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/TrueHauntingsPodcastP.S.
