Before Hollywood brings this terrifying tale to the big screen, the Smurl family lived it. For over 15 years, they were tormented by a relentless, malevolent force that defied logic—and resisted exorcism. Shadow figures, levitation, attacks, and a darkness that followed them wherever they fled. In this episode, bestselling author Rebecca F. Pittman joins me to reveal the terrifying true events behind The Conjuring 4: Last Rites, drawn from her chilling new book, The History and Haunting of the Smurl Family Horror. Tonight, my special guest returning to the show is author Rebecca F. Pittman to discuss the infamous Salem Witch Trails.   In 1692, a small village in Salem, Massachusetts, was suddenly attacked by the specters of flying witches and all manner of evil. A group of young girls began "crying out" against their neighbors and family members. By the time it was over, nineteen people were hanged, one man crushed to death, and five succumbed to the ordeal of imprisonment. Today, despite the plague of witchcraft that had inflicted England, we still look at this one isolated incident of hysteria and madness, and ask "How did this happen?" This book offers answers to that question, along with exclusive interviews with the Salem Witch Trial's top experts. The book includes never-before-seen photographs and information about Proctor's Ledge from the experts and historians who located the actual site of the hangings. A focus on the paranormal activity happening in Salem is offered in The Haunting section. You will also find a nod to Hocus Pocus and other movies. Spotlights on the best lodging, restaurants, and tourist attractions are also listed, along with maps, and websites for further study. Rebecca F. Pittman is a best-selling author of 13 books, including The History & Haunting of Lizzie Borden, The History and Haunting of Salem, and many more. My special guest tonight is author Rebecca Pittman who's here to discuss the horrific murder and haunting of the Lizzie Borden.  Get the book.   New evidence and photos! On August 4, 1892, the brutal murders of Andrew and Abby Borden were committed within the walls of their modest home, in broad daylight, on a busy street in Fall River, Massachusetts. It is today, 124 years later, still considered America's biggest unsolved murder mystery. Their youngest daughter, Lizzie, was accussed, and the bizarre case of how she did it, and why she did it, still baffles. But now, just in time for the 125th Anniversary of the Borden murders, comes new evidence: What if...there was proof of two murder plots the week of the murders? What if...for the first time...the identity of the two men the police and attorneys searched for, who were seen on the Borden property the day of, and three days prior to, the murders, are now revealed? What if...the police sent off the wrong items to be tested for poison? And, what was it Bridget saw from her attic window that had to be hushed up? It's all here. After five years of exhaustive research, Rebecca F. Pittman presents new evidence and photos, based on trial testimony, police reports and interviews. Never-before-seen photographs of Lizzie's Maplecroft mansion, and her bizarre behavior within its walls, are documented. Also included, are reports of the paranormal activity happening at the Lizzie Borden B&B today. If you think you know the story of Lizzie Borden and the events leading up to the murders of Andrew and Abby Borden...think again! Other books in Ms. Pittman's History and Haunting Series include: The History and Haunting of the Stanley Hotel, The History and Haunting of the Myrtles Plantation, The History and Haunting of Lemp Mansion, The History and Haunting of Salem: The Witch Trials and Beyond, and coming July 2020, The History and Haunting of the Palace of Versailles. www.rebeccafpittmanbooks.com where you can also sign up for her Ghost Writings newsletter.Follow Our Other ShowsFollow UFO WitnessesFollow Crime Watch WeeklyFollow Paranormal FearsFollow Seven: Disturbing Chronicle StoriesJoin our Patreon for ad-free listening and more bonus content.Follow us on Instagram @mysteriousradioFollow us on TikTok mysteriousradioTikTok Follow us on Twitter @mysteriousradio Follow us on Pinterest pinterest.com/mysteriousradio Like us on Facebook Facebook.com/mysteriousradio

Rebecca F. Pittman - Countdown to Murder Alex Murdaugh Money, Murder and Deception in South CarolinaRebecca Pittman talks to Ed Opperman about the Alex Murdaugh case. Not only was Murdaugh guilty of murders, he committed the crimes to cover up the multi-million dollar scam he had been inflicting on his employer. It was set up as the perfect crime, but thanks to evidence he wasn't aware of, the whole thing fell apart and justice for the victims was finally attained. However, fresh evidence has been attained in the case which means Murdaugh is even more evil than was previously considered.State of South Carolina v. Richard Alexander Murdaughwas the trial of American former lawyer Alex Murdaugh for the murder of his wife, Maggie, and their 22-year-old son, Paul, on June 7, 2021. The trial in the fourteenth circuit of the South Carolina Circuit Courtbegan on January 25, 2023, and ended on March 2 with a guilty verdict on all four counts. Murdaugh, who had pleaded not guilty, was sentenced to two life sentences to run consecutivelywithout the possibility of parole. Murdaugh's attorneys have filed a notice of appeal.Local media called the trial South Carolina's "trial of the century" and "arguably one of the most high-profile and sensational cases in South Carolina legal history".Rebecca F PittmanThis show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/1198501/advertisement

But this is only the tip of the iceberg. Aside from the financial fraud and swindling of law partners and vulnerable clients, there are at least 3 other deaths connected to Alex and his family. Join me today as I try to sort out this case that has more head-spinning twists and turns than a ride at Disney with the help of my guest, Rebecca F. Rebecca F. Pittman is best known for her series of non-fiction books in the paranormal genre. As a paranormal historian, Rebecca researches the most-haunted venues in the world. Spending hours in museums, historical societies, newspaper archives and interviews, her books are considered the most comprehensive on each of her subjects. With the venue owner's approval, she gains access to ancient photos, documents, maps and other data not seen in other books. Typically, she spends the night at these venues multiple times to absorb the atmosphere, walk their hallways, and garner some very amazing paranormal experiences of her own.“I was always writing,” she stated. “Mysteries were my favorite genre, but after seeing Shirley Jackson's The Haunting in 1970, I was hooked on ghosts.” The History and Haunting of the Stanley Hotel came first in 2010, followed shortly by The History and Haunting of the Myrtles Plantation in 2012. In 2015 the 2nd Edition for the Stanley Hotel book was released, as well as The History and Haunting of Lemp Mansion. The History and Haunting of the Myrtles Plantation, 2nd Edition was released in February, 2016. The History and Haunting of Lizzie Borden hit the stores November, 2017. It fast became the most-acclaimed book in the Lizzie Borden genre for its insight and new evidence in the 125-year-old murder case. 828 pages document every facet of the case, including excerpts from the trials, never-before-seen photographs and layouts, and new theories as to what really happened on August 4, 1892. The theories are backed by trial testimony and new evidence. “We've been approached by TV production companies wanting to option some of the titles for docudramas. What fun that would be!” The History and Haunting of Salem is due out in the fall of 2018.

Returning to the show tonight is author Rebecca Pittman, who's here to discuss her new book, The Haunting of Palace of Versailles.   It was a palace of the Kings of France, the creation of the Sun King, Louis XIV. The marvel of all Europe, it soon became a gilded cage for the monarchs and the courtiers who lived there. The saga of Versailles is filled with intrigue, scandal, glory, and tragedy. Here, the nobility of France manipulated and poisoned their way to the top. Marriages, deaths, mistresses, secret passageways, and betrayal---it all added up to the French Revolution that cost Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette their heads. Yet, within these opulent walls, we find the dreams of those who conquered Europe through military campaigns or outsmarting their bloodline. No one was safe. No one was exempt from the King's spies who secretly opened letters and reported on every move within the palace and grounds.  Join me as we look behind the scenes at the lives of the French Kings, their wives, their mistresses, and blood relations as they built, tore down, and rebuilt a name that became synonymous with jaw-dropping opulence, power, wealth, fashion, and scandal. Come with me inside the golden gates of Versailles. Packed with photographs, floor plans, and maps, this is a comprehensive look at the palace's history. Also included are the documented hauntings at the palace, including the bestselling account of two women academics who visited the Petit Trianon grounds in 1901 and interacted with the ghost of Marie Antoinette and others of her period. It is a story that has fascinated the world for decades. Other reports of paranormal activity at the palace are also included. Rebecca F. Pittman is a bestselling author of 14 titles. Her History and Haunting Of series is regularly featured on international TV, radio, and podcast shows. She researches the most haunted venues in the world, staying in their shadowed bedrooms and interviewing the owners and staff. Rebecca F. Pittman was raised in a rather unusual environment. Her mother owned a successful modeling agency in Salt Lake City. Pittman was on a runway by the time she was 5, teaching modeling by age 16, and helping women find confidence and a core of self-worth, by her early 20's. The fashion industry also gave Pittman a background in creating special events. Pittman has made a living as a professional muralist, motivational speaker, TV Talk Show Host, and author. She majored in journalism and art in college, and finds joy in creating, using both brush and keyboard.Writing about historic places with paranormal activity is one of her passions. She finds the history in haunted places fascinating. She researches them extensively, spends the nights in their shadowed bedrooms, and interviews the owners, staff, and customers to create the most comprehensive book she can. Pittmans' other books deal with creating businesses in the creative arts, how to have a life of abundance through confidence, and understanding what makes relationships work; and of course, fiction and non-fiction in the mystery/supernatural genre. She is the proud mother of four amazing sons, a mother-in-law to three beautiful daughters-in-law, and a grandmother to nine enthusiastic grandchildren. Pittman lives in the beautiful foothills of the Colorado Rockies, where she indulges her love of boating, golf, and adventure. Her love of mysteries has found her on multiple TV and radio programs. Her website is www.rebeccafpittmanbooks.com, where you can sign up for her free Ghost Writings newsletter. Pittman's History and Haunting Series include: The History and Haunting of the Stanley Hotel, The History and Haunting of the Myrtles Plantation, The History and Haunting of Lemp Mansion, The History and Haunting of Salem: The Witch Trials and Beyond, and coming July 2020, The History and Haunting of the Palace of Versailles. www.rebeccafpittmanbooks.com where you can also sign up for her Ghost Writings newsletter.
