we delve into the shocking and convoluted case of Pam Hupp, a woman whose life and actions have become the subject of intense scrutiny and fascination. Known for her chilling and perplexing involvement in multiple criminal investigations, Hupp's story is one of deception, betrayal, and murder. Pam Hupp, a seemingly ordinary woman from Missouri, first came to national attention with the suspicious death of her mother, which was initially deemed a tragic accident. However, the investigation took a dark turn as Hupp became a prime suspect. Things took an even darker twist with the murder of her friend, Betsy Faria, a case that ultimately exposed Hupp's disturbing pattern of deceit. Bone Deep: Untangling the Betsy Faria Murder CaseDec 12, 2021The explosive, first-ever insider's account of a case that continues to fascinate the public—the shocking wrongful conviction of Russell Faria for his wife's murder—a gripping read told by New York Times bestselling true crime expert Charles Bosworth Jr. and Joel J. Schwartz, the defense attorney who battled for justice, and ultimately prevailed. On December 27th, 2011, Russell Faria returned to his Troy, Missouri, home after his weekly game night with friends to an unthinkable, grisly scene: His wife, Betsy, lay dead, a knife still lodged in her neck. She'd been stabbed fifty-five times. First responders concluded that Betsy was dead for hours when Russ discovered her. No blood was found implicating Russ, and surveillance video, receipts, and friends' testimony all supported his alibi. Yet incredibly, police and the prosecuting attorney ignored the evidence. In their minds, Russ was guilty. But prominent defense attorney Joel J. Schwartz quickly recognized the real killer. The motive was clear. Days before her murder, the terminally ill Betsy replaced her husband with her friend, Pamela Hupp, as her life insurance beneficiary. Still, despite the prosecution's flimsy case and Hupp's transparent lies, Russ was convicted—leaving Hupp free to kill again. Bone Deep takes readers through the perfect storm of miscalculations and missteps that led to an innocent man's conviction—and recounts Schwartz's successful battle to have that conviction overturned. Written with Russ Faria's cooperation, and filled with chilling new revelations and previously undisclosed evidence, this is the story of what can happen when police, prosecutor, judge, and jury all fail in their duty to protect the innocent—and let a killer get away with murder.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.
Life had taken a hard turn for Betsy Faria and her family when she was diagnosed with cancer. But she and her husband, Russ, felt so fortunate to have a good support system of friends and loved ones around them to help. Including her friend from work, Pam Hupp. While Betsy and Pam had only been work acquaintances up to this point, Betsy's illness seemed to be bringing them closer together. Pam helped with grocery shopping and would even take Betsy to her medical appointments. But Betsy and her family would soon find out that hard way that something far more sinister lurked behind Pam's seemingly good intentions - something that would turn the lives of the entire Faria family upside down.
In 2010 Betsy Faria was diagnosed with cancer - then in 2011 Betsy's husband came home from a game night to find her dead. He initially assumed suicide, but when law enforcement officers arrived they quickly suspected foul play. Did her husband do it? Or did someone else in her life have motive to kill her? Get ready for one hell of an emotional rollercoaster: this week Hannah tells Katy about the death of Betsy Faria, and the insane course of action investigators took to prosecute her husband for it. The girls talk environmentally wasteful showering habits, why Katy would absolutely also be implicated in a crime, and why the only polygraphs that should be allowed are the ones Vanity Fair does on Pedro Pascal for adorable and entertaining interviews. We probably should have rated this one PG-13, so listen with little ones at your discretion. Also be aware of some brief discussion of suicide that we forgot to warn about at the top of the show.Sources:https://bloximages.newyork1.vip.townnews.com/stltoday.com/content/tncms/assets/v3/editorial/2/52/252847ce-9abf-58e0-8bae-e857ea2b2761/5d8d06056c978.pdf.pdfhttps://web.archive.org/web/20220311151934/https://fox2now.com/news/pam-hupp/heres-how-faria-prosecutors-got-their-wrongful-conviction/https://www.law.umich.edu/special/exoneration/Pages/casedetail.aspx?caseid=4792https://nypost.com/2022/04/02/true-story-of-the-thing-about-pam-betsy-farias-murder/https://www.oxygen.com/true-crime-buzz/who-was-betsy-faria-from-the-thing-about-pamhttps://people.com/crime/monster-gets-life-in-prison-for-murder-staged-to-frame-man-who-suspected-her-in-his-wifes-killing/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pam_Hupp#Death_of_Betsy_Fariahttps://www.stlmag.com/longform/pam-hupp/Support the showFollow us @thetaleswetellpodcast on Facebook and Instagram, or thetaleswetellpodcast.comSupport us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/join/thetaleswetellpodcast?Click here for merch!
This week's episode finally delves deep in to a thrilling, cutthroat world that we've never explored before: the insurance industry. On a serious note, the brutal death of terminally ill Betsy Faria showed how depraved human beings can truly be. The terminally ill wife and mother of two was stabbed over 50 times, including once through an eye, and was left with a knife sticking out of her neck. When her husband called the gruesome crime in as a suicide, suspicion immediately fell on him, but all was not what it seemed. We explore Betsy's story this week! BUT FIRST! You may want to skip to around 50-55 minutes if you're looking just for true crime content. At that point, This Week in Murder explores the fatal pursuit of a high-ranking Maryland government official turned fugitive and explores the mind of a family annhilator. And, as always, we wrap things up with a rousing game of Who Died The Worst! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/murdermydude/support

Megan is bringing you her very first deep dive in a well known case from her educated perspective. It is not often that we bring heavily covered cases to the podcast but even if you have heard this case before, hopefully you will learn something from this legal perspective. Besty Faria was found dead by her husband in her home with a knife sticking out of her neck and her wrist cut nearly to the bone. Through manipulation and narrow focus of investigatory work Betsy's husband was wrongfully imprisoned for three and a half years. Then in 2016 a man named Louis Gumpenberger was shot dead by a woman named Pam Hupp. Hupps defense was not so well thought out this time however. Take a listen to hear how these crimes have come together. Join Patreon here to binge bonus content! Do 2011 roku Betsy Faria wiodła spokojne szczęśliwe życie wraz ze swoim mężem Russelem. Niestety kobieta usłyszała straszną diagnozę - zachorowała na raka i nie zostało jej dużo czasu. Miała jednak wokół siebie wiele kochających osób, w tym najlepszą przyjaciółkę - Pam Hupp. Życie Betsy miało jednak zostać przerwane jeszcze wcześniej i to w wyniku brutalnego ataku - została zamordowana w swoim własnym domu. Russ - mąż ofiary trafił do więzienia za odebranie życia żonie, ale po kilku latach miało się okazać, że ta sprawa jest znacznie bardziej skomplikowana niż przypuszczano.

In 2016 a woman had just pulled into her driveway in her quiet neighborhood in Missouri, when suddenly her passenger door flung open and in jumped a man she didn't recognize who was wielding a knife. The woman froze in terror hoping this was just a robbery, but when the man spoke, she knew this situation was much much worse. Ten minutes later the police arrived at the woman's house, and what they saw in the hallway of the first floor shocked them. However, the real shocker came a week later when they realized who this man was, and why he had gone to that woman's house in the first place. 42-year-old Betsy Faria was vibrant, positive, and surrounded by a supportive circle of family and friends. In 2011, she was murdered in her own home, allegedly by her friend, Pam Hupp. In this episode, Dawn sits down with Betsy's daughter Mariah Day. Mariah is speaking out about an investigation that was misguided from the start, and the irreparable damage it has caused her family. Although her stepfather Russ Faria was exonerated after being wrongfully convicted for the murder of her mother, Mariah is still facing obstacles. She wants people to know that what you hear or see in the media isn't always the whole story. Thank you to Mariah Day for sharing your experience with me. You're amazing. ___________________________________________________________ Method & Madness is researched, written, hosted, and produced by Dawn Gandhi Sound Editing by moInspo Music by Timmoor from Pixabay REACH OUT: methodandmadnesspod@gmail.com FOLLOW: Instagram.com/MethodAndMadnessPod Twitter.com/MethodPod ___________________________________________________________ This podcast is sponsored by BetterHelp. You might remember episodes 287 and 288 when we covered the Betsy Faria case. Betsy was found dead in her home just two days after Christmas in 2011. Immediately suspicion fell on her husband Russ Faria, even though there was evidence pointing in the direction of one of Betsy's friends, Pam Hupp. We got to sit down with one of the authors of Bone Deep, the first and only book on this case Joel Schwartz. Joel was Russ Faria's defense attorney in both of his trials and ultimately got Russ exonerated. Joel was an absolute pleasure to have on the show and we hope you enjoy his one of a kind insight on this case!BONE DEEP by Joel Schwartz & Charles Bosworth Jr.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Pam was a normal housewife, she had a nice husband, and a job in the insurance industry. Everything about her was normal. Except, the dead body in her hallway. She had been ambushed in her own home and shot her attacker. When the police arrive they find the attacker had no ID, but a bizarre note in his pocket, it was detailed instructions on how to kidnap and murder Pam. “Make sure the knife is sticking out of her neck. Make it look like Russ's wife.” The police were shocked. Russ's wife had recently been murdered and the killer left a knife lodged in her neck. Was someone targeting the housewives of Missouri? ⠀ Odcinek powstał we współpracy z kanałem FOX. True Crime Tuesday presents: Bone Deep: Untangling the Betsy Faria Case with Co-Author, Joel Schwartz! On December 27th, 2011, Russell Faria returned to his Troy, Missouri, home after his weekly game night with friends to an unthinkable, grisly scene: His wife, Betsy, lay dead, a knife still lodged in her neck. She'd been stabbed fifty-five times. Joel Schwartz joins True Crime Tuesday to tell us where the investigation went wrong and the unusual way lawyers tried to get it back! Betsy Faria and Pam Hupp became good friends while they worked at State Farm Insurance together. They fell out of touch, but when Betsy was diagnosed with terminal cancer they rekindled their friendship - Pam was determined to help Betsy any way she could and often drove her to and from her chemo treatments. Such was the case on December 27, 2011 - the night her husband Russ Faria would come home from game night with his friends to discover his wife brutally murdered. Investigators narrow in on their suspect and that's only the beginning of this saga.
Sara and Danny are back to cover a case chuck-full of twists and turns: the murder of Betsy Faria. They start off with some background about Betsy and her life before diving into the details of the murder. They discuss the night of the murder and her husband's account of it, and how the investigation might've been too quick to zero in on him. They also get into the trial of her husband, and the retrial that followed it years later. To round it all off, they discuss the bizarre looking show based on the story called "There's Something About Pam," and play a game testing their knowledge on iconic neighbors in popular media. Based on the 2011 murder of Betsy Faria that resulted in her husband, Russ' conviction, though he insisted he did not kill her. This brutal crime set off a chain of events that would expose a diabolical scheme deeply involving Pam Hupp, played by Renée Zellweger. Creator/Showrunner Jenny Klein talked to Write On about bringing this true crime story to life: "We had a heavy research phase, and talked to as many of the real-life people as possible. And of course, this is a dramatic retelling, and some elements were fictionalized like timelines or composite characters. But we really did need to understand the facts to the best of our ability." Jenny goes on to talk about her writing process: "Writing is rewriting. I feel like when you're starting out as a writer, I would love my first draft, and it's like, no, that's not the thing. It's going to go through so many phases and just try to find the joy in the rewrite the same way you did with the first draft. Now I love rewriting, and I can't wait to get notes and hear what other people read into it and do the next pass." Don't forget to subscribe to the Write On Podcast on iTunes! Betsy Faria was known to her friends and family as such a beautiful soul. She had life-long friends who just loved to be around her because she always loved to have a good time and make those around her feel happy and loved. In addition to all those amazing friends, Betsy had a husband and two beautiful daughters who loved her endlessly. When she was diagnosed with Cancer all of those friends and family banded around her to make sure she had all the support she needed. One of those friends, Pam Hupp, took a special interest in taking care of Betsy. In fact, she was the last person to see Betsy alive.
