Run The Jewels are one of the best groups of all time, and before the group was ever thought of its members were already legendary. Killer Mike and El P are an emcee and producer/emcee duo, amongst other things, out of Atlanta and New York, who were introduced through the CEO of Adult Swim. The duo use their passion for music to also speak about their views on the world and subjects affecting them. Check out this episode that starts out with a brief bio of the group and their meeting and continues with a breakdown of their third studio album RTJ3 which is impactful still to the day. We break down each track the writers, producers, samples and guest appearances.

3 years for most artists just seems like a typical break between albums, but for Run The Jewels, the time between the release of RTJ3 and RTJ4 felt like an extended hiatus. Like superheroes, they revealed themselves right on time, just when we needed them most in the heat of 2020's Black Lives Matter protests. RTJ4 is a laser focused, explosion of sound and commentary, and maybe even the duo's best work yet. TRACKS PLAYED: ‘yankee and the brave' ‘ ooh la la (feat. DJ Premier, Greg Nice)' ‘out of sight (feat. 2 Chainz)' ‘holy calamafuck' ‘goonies vs. E.T.' ‘walking in the snow' ‘JU$T (feat. Pharell, Zach de la Rocha)' ‘never look back' ‘the ground below' ‘pulling the pin (feat. Mavis Staples, Josh Homme)' ‘a few words for the firing squad'. DC’s Mike James and Mollie Ames discuss: LeBron James is so great we should build a statue of him big enough to be seen from space, and other fantastic ideas one ponders when thinking about just how great he is. The Boston Celtics, Toronto Raptors and Indiana Pacers are all not worthy enough teams to represent an NBA Conference in the Finals, and if not for LeBron neither would the Cavs. There'll be no "Hee-Hee" today, no Hard Knocks. Not today. Enjoying the moment by not looking ahead. "Mollie's mouth filth all over me..." Lake County has their own newspaper and the headlines can be so fantastic. RTJ delivered a stern statement to the NFL, and it's so awesome. (A sample of the Run The Jewels track "Legend Has It" was used in this segment, taken from the album RTJ3 available through Run The Jewels Inc) Rule #1: No Hotel California. Rule #2: No Stairway To Heaven. Rule #3: Absolutely no Jimmy Buffett, ever. I mean, enough already. Jeff Van Gundy wonders why people in Cleveland are unable to do simple math, then delivers the best use for 'The Diff' on the Cavs scoreboard you'll ever hear. Remember when last season ended, the story and headlines had faded and less than 10 players across the entire League were still protesting racially charged police brutality during the National Anthem? Well, you can now bet there's going to be a whole lot more players than that protesting next season. All this and so much more on this episode of the Defend Cleveland Podcast. Enjoy~ Thank you to KidForce Pinball for sponsoring the podcast, 91.1-FM WRUW Cleveland for being home to the show, engineer extraordinaire Mollie Ames, and to the city that inspires us, Cleveland, Ohio. The return!.... Again! This one has a loooong intro. Long. Sixteen minutes to be precise, including the song. A note on the intro song; it's from the recently released RTJ3 by the mighty-mighty Run The Jewels and features Zach De La Rocha and it's awesome. I can't remember if I dreamt this, or it's actually a legitimate rumour, but I've heard somewhere that there's a Zach De La Rocha solo album in the works with production handled entirely by El-P. I hope this is true, but there's been infinite talk of a De La Rocha solo album over the years with only One Day As a Lion the only thing to closely resemble that. That all being said, if you haven't heard any Run the Jewels, and this intro is your first exposure, then head over to https://runthejewels.com/music/ and cop all their shit for free. If you want to pay you can do that too.  So on this episode, Louise joins me just after we watched the Robert De Niro/Anne Hathaway starring vehicle, The Intern. Spoiler alert: I loved it. I'm a simple man it seems. We also reflected on 2016, discussed observing how different children do things in different ways and different timelines, and a whole lot of other tangents and non sequitur's.  News: The Illawarra Music and Record Fair is returning in 2017! This time at City Diggers in Wollongong on Sunday May 7th. Head over to The Crate Diggers Collective's Facebook page for more info.

It was a fun weekend for both of us. We both got our hands on the Battlefield 1 beta and discuss our thoughts and whether or not it's a must-buy. Tim has a new mobile game to discuss in Steppy Pants. We got a new peek into Horde 3.0 in Gears of War 4 along with a new track from Run the Jewels off of RTJ3. Music Midtown is just a few weeks away, and in that spirit we both discuss the impact of music festivals on our personal playlists and how we approach music in general as a result. Kevin has been debating fitness trackers recently and sheds some light on which way he's leaning including Apple's upcoming presser and the potential Apple Watch 2. We got together for the Clemson Auburn showdown, so naturally, we talk about the opening weekend to College Football and our outlook for the rest of the season. We wrap things up with the best self deprecation we can muster to catch everyone up on some upcoming Extended Plays we have in the works.
