Where to Stay in the Turks and Caicos

Vacation Mavens

Tamara recently took a travel agent FAM trip to Turks and Caicos and spent two nights at The Palms and two nights at The Shore Club. She also visited many other properties and today she shares her insights into each to help you decide where to stay in Turks and Caicos. Episode Highlights Turks and Caicos is known for its beautiful beaches and not for all-inclusives or as a party island Most of the hotels have great accommodations for families with 1, 2, 3-bedroom accommodations and up (including villa rentals) When arriving, be prepared for a long wait at passport control/immigration. Expect about an hour and longer on the weekends. When departing, leave 2-3 hours to get checked in and wait in the security line. There isn't a lot of room in the gate area but there is an area upstairs that has more space. To save time at the airport, you can pay for Fast Track access starting at $75 per person, each way. Private transfers from the airport are about $150 each way, but cabs can be $30+ per person for shared taxis. Taxis throughout the island are priced per person and are pricey. It is about a 15-20 minute drive from the PLS (Providenciales) to most of the hotels The Palms is on Grace Bay Beach (the most famous beach on the island). It is a luxury hotel with a lush, garden-like setting right on the beach. The style and decor is similar to Sandy Lane in Barbados, a colonial or plantation style. Tamara stayed in a one-bedroom suite oceanfront, which was huge with a full kitchen, living room, laundry, dining room, large balcony, bedroom with tons of closet space, and one and one-half bathrooms. They recently did a renovation at The Palms of rooms but also of the pool area and added a new pool/beach restaurant and pool bar (including a swim-up bar). The restaurants at The Palms were very good. Parallel 23 is fine dining and Sisi is modern Mexican. The Palms also has one of the best spas in the Caribbean The high season is during Festive (winter holidays) and President's Day weekend. The low season would be July-September Pricing in the Caribbean is quite high. The Shore Club is across the island on Long Bay Beach. There is a beach-to-beach package so that you can split your week vacation between the two properties. Long Bay Beach is breezy and very popular for kite surfing. The beach itself is narrow but long and The Shore Club has plenty of space to spread out. The water here is very calm and you can walk out very far, especially at low tide. Shore Club is also a luxury hotel and it has a sophisticated feel. There are villas and multi-bedroom accommodations that would be amazing for a girls' trip or multi-generational vacation. The one-bedroom oceanfront suite is huge and great for families with teens because there is a study that has a pull-out couch, full bathroom, and closets and a door that closes off from the rest of the space. There is another pull out couch in the living room. There is a sushi restaurant and a comfort food restaurant, plus pool bars and restaurants. There is a shuttle between the properties and also the four-star Sands property and guests have signing privileges for all the restaurants. The Alexandra Resort is a four-star, all-inclusive on Grace Bay next to The Palms with multi-bedroom suites and restaurants The Wymara Resort has a South Beach, sexy vibe that would be great for couples and honeymooners but the rooms are a bit smaller The Ritz-Carlton is a high-rise hotel with a smaller beach. The second tower is for Ritz-Carlton Residences and you can't use or earn points for the Residences. They are building an Andaz and St. Regis on Turks and Caicos now too. The H20 Resort on Long Bay Beach is a small boutique hotel that is good for people that are independent travelers and enjoy watersports as they have a kite surfing school and tons of rentals. Tamara is going back to Turks and Caicos in the fall for a Family Travel Association conference at Beaches Turks and Caicos (stay tuned!!) On Thursday nights there is a fish fry with food trucks, music, and artisans/souvenir vendors. The Junkanoo band performs and it is such a lot of fun. You can island hop by ferry or plane (but there is a separate terminal for domestic flights) You can also go scuba diving, snorkeling, charter a boat for fishing or island hopping, or boat out to the tiki bar off Long Bay Beach.

He stated he could not put a name to what he saw but that it was dark, hairy and crouched over. As the witness backed off from the almost 'doglike' thing it growled at him, he described the eyes as yellowish and really scary and he made off before the animal approached him further. He has owned dogs all his life, even racing and training greyhounds for over two decades. He said "this was no dog, I have never seen anything like this thing before or since. The way it growled and the size of it was just unreal, I can still see it in my mind to this day. What places are on your bucket list for this year and 2022? Today we have mom of 3 Christina Willett from Lush Experience on the show for part 2 of the travel series to share with us some amazing places we can go this year! Just like Heidi in the previous episode, she shares with us 3 different locations and 4 amazing resorts that are perfect during the pandemic. Christina really focuses on these properties that are the perfect places to go to to be able to relax, have fun and not worry about the cleanliness or having to spread out to get space.  Let's jump into where she highly recommends your next vacation to be. Let's start with heading to Barbados, an island that is hilly, beautiful with light pink beaches.  In Barbados everything is at your fingertips, if you want to go shopping,  explore restaurants, and do activities you can leave the resort and feel safe. Sandy Lane hotel is perfect for families.  Sandy Lane has amazing beach side service. As a parent you want to make that experience as easy as possible.  Christina has never seen anything like this, the beach manager will ask if you want to be in the sun, shade, want to relax or be in the action? They will reserve your spot for the duration of your trip so you can sleep in and know you will have your spot.  They also will know what drinks you want, if the kids want popsicles etc.  There are 4 restaurants, an  amazing golf course called the Green Monkey, Tiger Woods even got married there.  They have a mega spa 40,000 square feet.  They have complimentary kids programs for ages 3-12 and offer daily activities and have theme days daily for example a "beach safari" for the kids.   In Barbados they have wildlife reserves with green monkeys, farms for wildlife, you can swim with turtles, take submarine tours, enjoy hiking, ATV and horse back riding. Sandy Lane has over 100 rooms spread over a couple buildings.  1 free standing villa that has 5 bedrooms if you are looking for more space and privacy. Next, let's head to Grenada. This island is not built up like other islands. There are no tall buildings, and it has a slower pace and it's more quiet. Grenada is a lush island that is green and hilly. It's known as Spice Island, and Christina highly recommends walking around the open air markets to get a feel for the culture. Calabash is the hotel she highly recommends because it's a special property that is family owned and operated and local native to the island.  They are there day in and day out getting to know the guests.  Calabash has a unique environment that is spacious only 30 suites on 8 acres. There are 5 villas perfect for families that have 2-5 bedrooms in each.  Calabash is a bed and breakfast style and breakfast is included and you can have it in your room or even on the beach!  Grenada is a diving destination and even has underwater art that you can explore! They are big into water sports and even have a dormant volcano that has a lake in it and you can hike up to it and see monkey's and lizards. So if you are looking for something different this is a perfect destination for you. Lastly we are heading to Mexico to Le Blanc a sister company that is a luxury all inclusive adult only resorts. One is located in Cancun and the other in Cabo, so depending on which one you want to go to, which one is easier for you to get to and what kind of atmosphere you are looking for will dictate which property to stay at. At Le Blanc everything is at your beck and call, food and beverage including top shelf alcohol is included in your stay as well as butler service! They have about 6-7 restaurants and a ton of  bars, you can have 24 hour room service if you wanting to stay more to yourself. It's an amazing spa destination that is huge and has lots of space.  Cabo you can check out San Jose or Cabo San Lucas, they offer two different environments to explore from off shore fishing, night life, shopping and trying out different restaurants if you want to leave property...

For the 2,000 Irish Guineas there is disagreement as Team Ballydoyle will be hoping their runs can put behind their disappointing efforts in the first English classic. At Haydock the panel can't split John Quinn's double act in the Listed Temple Stakes, whilst Marc is hoping Method can step as a three-year-old in the Sandy Lane. More Tales from the North West of England.A number of years ago whilst talking to the witnesses that I had found to the Salford Wildman. I was chatting with one of the witnesses relatives about anything strange they had noticed in the area of the Buile hill as he had lived and worked in the area of Buile Hill for many years. The witnesses name is C.J. Thomas and he lived very close to this area, one night in the very late hours after a lock in at the Ashfield Labour Club. The witness was walking in the area between the Ashfield and the old 'Dog Entry' just off Sandy Lane, he was lighting his cigar and saw something that he can still remember to this day. He stated he could not put a name to what he saw but that it was dark, hairy and crouched over, as the witness backed off the almost 'doglike' thing growled at him, he described the eyes as yellowish and really scary and he made off before the animal approached him further. One local resident was driving home from a journey, he was driving into the estate next to the old water sewage station just off Avon Avenue. Earlier that day when walking his dog he realised as they entered the house the dog had dropped its expensive kong ball toy some where on the back fields. So he was delighted to see it lying in the road just outside his house, as he got out to retrieve the toy two young boys aged around 8 or 9 came running from the wood, excited and all talking at once. The gents wife who was with him asked what was wrong and the older boy said "Mrs we just got chased by a Bear in there, can you get your dog to get it" and pointed to the woods at the end of Avon drive. Trying to calm down the boys the wife asked if they were sure it wasnt a big dog, or someone having them on. But they were insistent that they had heard growling noises, so being boys they threw stones in the direction of where the noise was coming from, they saw a large dark 'Bear' move slightly into the clearing on all fours, so they threw two more stones and this Bear set off after them.

A monkey dust addict from the Midlands waved a knife at a terrified neighbour before kung fu kicking a bush. Carlo Vella believed he was being attacked by 'demons and devils'. The man, from Staffordshire, would spend £70-a-week on his habit. The 39-year-old walked towards the retired victim while wielding the blade as she stood outside her Newcastle flat. Prosecutor Antony Longworth told Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court the woman was waiting for a neighbour outside her flat at Stoneyfields Court, Sandy Lane, Newcastle, at 9pm on August 25 when she became aware of the defendant. Mr Longworth said: “He was coming towards her and he had a knife in front of him at the time. She believed it might have been a machete. It was difficult to tell because he was swinging the knife about very quickly. “She was terrified. She and her neighbour ran in her flat and immediately called the police. “The defendant appeared to be engaging in kung fu with the bushes. She could hear him screaming and shouting outside. “The police arrived and found the defendant huddled on to the floor. He was muttering under his breath. He was under the influence of something. He was cuffed. The knife was seized.” Powered by Plantaforce Use NOBLE10 for 10% Discount. www.plantaforce.com
