Read OnlineJesus answered, “My kingdom does not belong to this world. If my kingdom did belong to this world, my attendants would be fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not here.” John 18:36Today, on the final Sunday of our Church year, we celebrate the glorious Solemnity of Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. Next Sunday begins Advent. On this day we profess the profound truth that our Lord is King! He is the King of all things. He is King of the Universe. And He is King of Heaven and all spiritual realities. However, in the Gospel passage quoted above, Jesus responds to Pilate who was questioning Him about whether or not He was the King of the Jews. Jesus is clear that He is a King, but that His Kingdom does not belong to this world. So where is His Kingdom? We can look at Jesus' statement from two points of view. First of all, if Jesus would have claimed that He were an earthly king, one with civil authority, then Pilate would have judged Him to be guilty of trying to overthrow the Roman authority. This would be unlawful and would be punishable by death. In that case, Jesus could have been found legally guilty of violating civil law.But Jesus was purely innocent. He was morally perfect in every way, and that included His obedience to all legitimate civil law. But Jesus was a King. He was The King of all Kings! Therefore, so as to exercise His Kingship, He declared that His Kingdom was not of this world. In other words, it was not a Kingdom that was in competition with the Roman authorities or any other civil authority. To that, Pilate did not know how to respond.Today and always, God desires that His glorious Kingdom reign in every way. God begins by reigning in our souls. He invites us to invite Him to enter in and take control of our lives. He desires to be the ruler of every passion, desire, thought and action that is ours. When this happens, His Kingdom is firmly established within us.It also needs to be pointed out that Jesus wants His Kingdom to grow. First, it must grow in the minds and wills of all people. But from there, He wants every person to then work to conform every part of our society to the governance of Him as King. This means that as the hearts of civil leaders are converted, they will be called to enact laws that fully support and build up God's Kingdom on earth. It means that business leaders, as they convert, are called to govern their businesses in accord with the will of God so that their businesses contribute to the establishment of God's Kingdom here and now. It means that as the leaders of our schools, sports programs, social programs and the like all invite Jesus to reign in their hearts as King, The King of the Universe will then guide them to conform all of their endeavors to His will and to the continued upbuilding of His Kingdom. The first duty of the Christian, in regard to the governance of every aspect of society, is not to impose God's law from without, as a ruthless authoritarian would. Rather, it is to convert minds and hearts so that God's governance comes forth from within. As God's Kingdom is established in the lives of His people, all objectively grave evils embedded within our earthly laws must be overturned. For example, the legalization of abortion stands out as perhaps the greatest of moral evils, since it involves the taking of a completely innocent life. This and countless other immoral earthly laws must be replaced by the laws of God as hearts and minds are converted to His Truth. Reflect, today, upon your duty to help bring forth the Kingdom of God here and now. Start by seeing your duty to allow God's Kingdom to grow within you and your family. From there, be open to the many ways that God wants to use you to help others do the same. As you do, do not be afraid to work toward the external establishment of God's Kingdom in all that you do and in all that falls within your responsibility. Jesus is King, and He desires to reign everywhere. Cooperate with Him, and His Kingdom will indeed come. My glorious King, I choose You as King of my life, and I dedicate to You all my actions and endeavors. Please use me to further Your Kingdom. I pray for wisdom, prudence and courage as I am sent forth by You to help bring forth Your merciful and just reign in the lives of all people and within the entire Universe that You created. May Your Kingdom come and Your will be done! Jesus, I trust in You.Source of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2024 My Catholic Life! Inc. All rights reserved. James Graham's writing obsession started at the age of six in the shadow of Nottinghamshire's former coalmines. Equipped with a typewriter from his mother he created hundreds of stories from the family home in Kirkby-in-Ashfield. Accelerating through university in Hull and a writing residency in west London, Graham's work started to attract wider audiences following a break at the National Theatre in 2012. Building on his thrilling political drama This House, he went on to write plays and TV series including Sherwood, Dear England, Quiz, Best of Enemies and Brexit: The Uncivil War.During this year's MacTaggart lecture at the Edinburgh TV Festival, he called for more working-class people in TV. Nick Luck, Neil Channing and Star Sports' William Kedjanyi begin to consolidate their thoughts as the clock ticks down on the 2024 Election campaign. Neil has more recommendations: this time predicting a win for Lee Anderson in Ashfield and a massive Labour swing in Bridlington and the Wolds. Desperately searching for any sign of a Tory stronghold, Neil identifies a pocket of the Midlands that may stay resolutely blue. Our special guest today is Political broadcaster and journalist Peter Oborne, who provides thought provoking and no-holds-barred analysis of what he describes as a "nasty" and "incompetent" campaign, considers the importance of the Gaza question to Independent victories, has a 7/1 recommendation for next Tory leader, and wonders where David Cameron has been hiding during the campaign.

Adam Spencer, a serial thief from Sutton in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, was recently caught and sentenced after a string of burglaries and shoplifting incidents. Most notable theft, 17 tubes of Pringles potato chips, all stolen in one go. When arrested by police, Spencer reportedly quipped, Once you pop, you can't stop. A reference to Pringle's famous advertising slogan. But Prince's crime spree went beyond just chips. He broke into the same Iceland shop twice in one morning, stealing meat and then returning a couple hours later to steal over 300 pounds worth of additional stock. Okay this is gonna become the Pringle's defense. It has to be, right? Once you pop, you can't stop. I like it. Rosemary are we would call them potato chips in the United States, but they're called other things in other places. Are they popular in Australia? Rosemary Barnes: No, they're they're chips in Australia. They're crisps in the UK. Joel Saxum: Are they popular and or would you be willing to steal 17 tubes of them? Rosemary Barnes: I certainly wouldn't. Wouldn't steal them. It's hard to imagine how you could sneak out 17 tubes of Pringles in one go. So that's, obviously I guess they, they didn't because they were caught, but yeah, no, I think, I don't know with chips, I I don't like them particularly, but if they're there, I'll eat them and then regret it. So I would not. I would not keep 17 tubes in my house because there's, it's hard to, It's hard to eat healthy foods while you've got Pringles available. Even if I don't like them. I don't, yeah, I guess ones you probably can't stop. Allen Hall: A Belgian minister has joined several coastal municipalities in filing an objection against a large wind farm off the coast of Dunkirk, France. And if you remember Dunkirk, France is the place where the British removed all their coal. Troops at the beginning of world war two very famous place The plans would build 46 wind turbines barely 10 kilometers from the coast which Belgian authorities say would cause visual nuisance impact shipping routes and harm protected seabirds Belgium has been opposing this Project since 2016 has proposed an alternate location further out to sea if necessary Belgium is prepared to go to the European court to safeguard the rights of coastal residents and other stakeholders Okay, guys, so when you decide to build an offshore wind farm along your border You have to anticipate if the country or the other side is going to have some concerns about it, right? Particularly in Dunkirk France, which is a very next to Belgium, which is quite beautiful You it's just like the coastline of New Jersey that and Virginia and everywhere else in the United States where the sight lines can't be interrupted. Six, 10 kilometers, which is six miles, right? Six miles isn't that far offshore. Joel Saxum: How do they navigate this? I'd be the like to be the first one to say that if we're gonna take a uptime podcast field tri...

Grab your popcorn, we're off to Pop Con...Jemma and Marina take you through the lowlights of the Popular Conservatism conference - the latest Tory splinter group headed up, unironically, by the most unpopular Conservative known to man, Liz Truss. After realizing they are both "left-wing extremists" in Truss's power-sodden mind, Jemma and Marina discuss how after the anti-elites Pop Con conference, 30 Conservatives gathered for cocktails at Rees-Mogg's £5m Westminster townhouse, at 2pm, on a Tuesday, like we all do.Then it's move over Mike Graham - there's a new genius in town, and this one is the MP for Ashfield, 30p Lee who took to the stage to declare that coal is sustainable, just like concrete.Jemma and Marina explore the underlying beliefs that drives all conservatives, before putting to the test a crucial theory posed by James O'Brien: Would Jacob-Ress Mogg be taken seriously if the guff that fell from his mouth was delivered with a working-class accent? Grab your popcorn, we're off to Pop Con... Jemma and Marina take you through the lowlights of the Popular Conservatism conference - the latest Tory splinter group headed up, unironically, by the most unpopular Conservative known to man, Liz Truss. After realizing they are both "left-wing extremists" in Truss's power-sodden mind, Jemma and Marina discuss how after the anti-elites Pop Con conference, 30 Conservatives gathered for cocktails at Rees-Mogg's £5m Westminster townhouse, at 2pm, on a Tuesday, like we all do. Then it's move over Mike Graham - there's a new genius in town, and this one is the MP for Ashfield, 30p Lee who took to the stage to declare that coal is sustainable, just like concrete. Jemma and Marina explore the underlying beliefs that drives all conservatives, before putting to the test a crucial theory posed by James O'Brien: Would Jacob-Ress Mogg be taken seriously if the guff that fell from his mouth was delivered with a working-class accent? The results are 100% conclusive. Then it's onto THAT clip of Holly Vallance, in which the ex-soap and pop starlet declared lefty ideas to be "crappy". And that everyone starts off a lefty until they get houses or jobs - and then they move to the right. Or in Vallance's case, they marry a billionaire. This week we have a very interesting chat with a young brewer by the name of Tim Burkardt. Tim reached out to me to tell me about the brewing apprenticeship that he undertook in Germany and the things that he observed about the differences between learning brewing in Germany and in Australia, as well as a whole host of other differences between the two industries. In the past when we've talked to brewers about cultural differences we've had a great response from our audience and so I thought it would be a great one, particularly with so many young brewers looking at pursuing careers and getting skills in the brewing industry. It's a great chat with an interesting young brewer and I hope you enjoy just as much as I did. As we discussed Tim has returned to Australia and has set himself up on the Sunshine Coast as a consultant brewer but also filling in for breweries that need additional expert hands or replacement brewer. His business is Meister Brewing Solutions. We'll be back this Thursday with our discussion of the news of the week, and don't forget this Saturday is our annual Hottest 100 Craft Beers live countdown. We'll be coming to you live from the First Choice Liquor Market store in Ashfield, Sydney counting down Australia's hottest 100 beers and meeting the people who make them and a whole lot of other great guests. The Way of the Orchards Colin Scott has spent his life in orchards, learning how to tended them with his parents, Edward and Janice as role models. This episode is a testament of what it looks like to embody a craft as part of your way of life. Colin like many orchardist may not be a Mandalorian, a character from Star Wars who is now featured in a stand alone tv series depicting a a clan-based culture composed of members from multiple species and bound by a common creed, language and code, but he like many orchardist who grew up tending trees from an early age see orchard care as A Way of Life. This episode first released in Season 2 of Cider Chat on episode 093 and was re-produced for Season 8. The info is evergreen and timely for those of us who love orchards and want to broaden our own knowledge base. E.J. Scott Orchard was purchased in 1954. (Note that the first initial of Colin's parents in the business name) Today Colin is running the orchard and the apple storage facility site which is discussed at the beginning of this episode. E & J Scott Orchard also has apricots, blackberries, blueberries, cherries, grapes, nectarines, peaches, pears, plums, quince, raspberries, & strawberries. Their main store is in Ashfield, MA and is open Sat & Sun 10-6 July through May. Organic duck eggs from their heritage breed Ancona ducks are also available upon request. Colin using his dad's grafting tool We begin this chat with Colin inside one of the Apple storage rooms. What affects the Apple's ripening? temperature ethylene gas - apples off gas Apples are placed in a CA room (Controlled Atmosphere) where both temperature, oxygen and the off gases are controlled. If apples don't have oxygen they don't ripen. Colin and I discuss the "delicate" process of storing apples or what he called "putting them to sleep". Apple storage tip: Take your apples out of the refrigerator every once in a while and let them off gas. That will help them last a bit longer. New and old grafting tools Next in this chat we talk about the beginnings of the orchard and what they grew and where they are going with the growing cider market Root Stock for grafting a tree - dwarf or standard Shifting his market to cider apples What do you look for in a root stock "The idea behind grafting is to take the variety that you want and put it on the root stock you want. The vigor of the variety contributes to the size of the tree." The numbering system of the root stock defines the size of the tree or a percentage of the size of the tree M rootstock 9, 11, 18, 26 what does that stand for? If you put a Macintosh on standard tree rootstock and a Macintosh on a 26, you would get 30 -40-% of the standard one. A M118 or M111 are going to be 6--70% the size, which means they will be almost as big as a standard tree. Today Colin is using Geneva root stock, because he is finding it resistant to Fire Blight. A nasty disease that can kill the tree. Geneva root stock numbering system is random too. Colin is using Geneva 41 & 935. They will be 30-40% of the standard tree. He uses a bench graft on his root stock. The secret to grafting per Colin Lining up the cambium layers Getting it airtight We also chat pruning an apple tree, especially a tree that you are attempting to revive after years of neglect. Joining us on the #SWYSI sofa this week is Lee Anderson, the outspoken Conservative MP for Ashfield since 2019. Known for his forthright views on controversial subjects ("I say what people think"), Lee discusses modern unions ("union leaders don't care about their members"), the infiltration of woke ideology into our institutions and education system, and the unacceptable levels of both legal and illegal immigration -- and the consequences arising therefrom. In a wide-ranging discussion, Lee also tells us about his upbringing, his early life as a miner and his political journey from staunchly anti-Thatcher Labour activist to Conservative MP. ------------------ SUBSCRIBE: If you are enjoying the show, please subscribe to our channel on YouTube (click the Subscribe Button underneath the video and then Click on the Bell icon next to it to make sure you Receive All Notifications) AUDIO: If you prefer Audio you can subscribe on itunes or Soundcloud.
