Today is Holy Saturday, and we will finish the gospel of Mark. Yesterday, we left Jesus hanging silently on the cross; it felt like everything had come to an end. But with the Roman centurion, we looked on and confessed, "This really is the Son of God." Today we will go together to his tomb, and see that those words are true. The tomb is empty, and God's resurrection power is beginning to move through the world.
Today we are at the very end of the fifth week in Lent, and we are beginning Mark chapter 14. The chief priests and the teachers of the law are angry with Jesus, and are looking for a way to have him killed. But a woman gives him a beautiful gift, and Jesus welcomes her gesture. He is preparing to die, and she is one of the only people who seems to understand what is happening.
Today is Saturday in the fourth week of Lent, and we are continuing in Mark chapter 11. Jesus has entered Jerusalem, and now he is going to go up to the Temple. I wonder if everyone is watching him closely to see what he will do next?
Welcome back to We Wonder: Lent. Long ago, Jesus said to his friends, "Come: follow me." Now that we are at the end of the second week of Lent, we are following him into Mark chapter 7. There is a little pause in the action, and we get to see Jesus have a conversation with some people who are challenging him.
Welcome back to We Wonder: Lent. Long ago, Jesus said to his friends, "Come: follow me." During this season, we are following Jesus every day as we read all the way through the gospel of Mark. Today we are right in the middle of Mark 4, and Jesus has some word-pictures to help us imagine what God's kingdom is like.
Welcome to We Wonder: Lent. Long ago, Jesus said to his friends, "Come: follow me," and during Lent we will follow him all the way through the gospel of Mark. Today we are finishing the first chapter of Mark's book, and already all sorts of people who are sick, hurting, or being hurt by evil spirits are coming to find Jesus for help.

Catechism of the Catholic Church Paragraphs: - 643 (in 'The Appearances of the Risen One') - Given all these testimonies, Christ's Resurrection cannot be interpreted as something outside the physical order, and it is impossible not to acknowledge it as an historical fact. It is clear from the facts that the disciples' faith was drastically put to the test by their master's Passion and death on the cross, which he had foretold. The shock provoked by the Passion was so great that at least some of the disciples did not at once believe in the news of the Resurrection. Far from showing us a community seized by a mystical exaltation, the Gospels present us with disciples demoralized ("looking sad") and frightened. For they had not believed the holy women returning from the tomb and had regarded their words as an "idle tale". When Jesus reveals himself to the Eleven on Easter evening, "he upbraided them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who saw him after he had risen." - 888 (in 'The Teaching Office') - Bishops, with priests as co-workers, have as their first task "to preach the Gospel of God to all men," in keeping with the Lord's command. They are "heralds of faith, who draw new disciples to Christ; they are authentic teachers" of the apostolic faith "endowed with the authority of Christ." Got a Bible question? Join us for worship!Discussion Questions: Read Mark 11:1-111) How would you describe what you are hoping (and praying) for right now? Does that hope feel more rooted in your own will or in God’s will? How do you discern the difference between the two?2) Palm Sunday is typically a celebratory day. We sing “hosanna” and our kids parade through the sanctuary with palm branches, even though Good Friday is right around the corner. What does it look like (and feel like) for you to celebrate the kingship of Jesus right now, even in the midst of the collective uncertainty, hardship, and sorrow we are all living with?3) What one thing can you do this week to intentionally remindyourself of the truth that God is in charge?(Having difficultly thinking of something? This Sunday before Easter, we observe the crucifixion. The crucifixion of Christ is painful to read, it hangs heavy in our hearts as we contemplate the painful torture and death of our savior. Yet--at the very center of this story--we see love unparalleled by anything else.
