This episode of the Harvard Macy Institute podcast features Dr. Terry Wolpaw, a nationally recognized leader and innovator in medical education. She shares her journey from clinician to educationalist, highlighting the importance of shifting from a teacher-centered to a learner-centered approach. Dr. Wolpaw discusses her experiences at Case Western Reserve and Penn State College of Medicine, where she led major curriculum changes. Key to her success, she says, was the ability to articulate a vision, assemble a strong team, and foster an environment of adaptive thinking. She also reflects on the challenges of leading change and the importance of knowing when to step back and let go. This episode offers valuable insights for health professional educators at any stage of career who are navigating the complexities of medical education and curriculum design. Terry Wolpaw has served as the vice dean for educational affairs at Penn State College of Medicine where she oversaw undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education. She has also served as the associate dean for curricular affairs at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Among her many accomplishments was working to secure two five-year AMA grant awards at Penn State, both envisioning and promoting health system science as a core component of curricular design. She received one of the first American College of Rheumatology Clinician Scholar Educator career development awards, which catalyzed her interest in student-centered learning. Her educational scholarship has focused on the expression of students' clinical reasoning and uncertainties. She developed the SNAPPS technique for learners' case presentations to preceptors, which is used with medical students, residents and physician assistant students both nationally and internationally. Dr. Wolpaw is an alumna of the Program for Educators in Health Professions and Leading Innovation in Health Care and Education. Since then, she has served as faculty in the Program for Educators in Health Professions. In 2005, she played a key role in introducing sessions focused on posters and abstracts. This focus soon expanded into the broader theme of the Educator as a Scholar. This theme remains an integral part of the program today.

“I think we need better on-shift teaching.” This is a common quote from residents and med students alike in the emergency department. EMRA*Cast host Chris Reilly, MD, MS, talks with EM:RAP Deputy Director and EM educator Jessica Mason, MD, about different ways residents can take learning into their own hands and get the most out of their on-shift education. It's as easy as a SNAPPS (punny if you listen).
This week, Dr Libby Sampey interviews Ian Lee on impromptu teaching on the medical ward. Ian discusses the importance in facilitating teaching on the wards and how to recognise and overcome challenges, as both educators and learners, to provide good quality training in a clinical setting. Ian Lee is a Lecturer in Medical Education and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy who works mainly on the University of Edinburgh's Clinical Educator Programme. With a background in nursing, Ian's past clinical teaching includes; teaching resuscitation and clinical skills; ALS instruction; roles in simulation based education and of course supporting medical and nursing students on clinical placement in patient facing clinical settings which is what forms the basis of today's Clinical Conversation. On the show today, we have Bijan Sharohki, Head of Product and Brandon Case, Head of Product Engineering from O1 labs, the development company working on Mina. Mina is the first protocol to use recursive zero-knowledge proofs to track the entire state of a blockchain. Using zero-knowledge proofs to track states rather than a full ledger of transactions, Mina is able to keep their blockchain to a fixed size of ~22kb. Mina enables a new category of applications called ‘Snarkified Applications' or ‘Snapps'. Snapps get executed once by developers and thereafter nodes verify associated SNARK proofs, making these new types of applications highly scalable on Mina's recursive blockchain. Snapps are going live on testnet by the end of 2021, so we caught up with Brandon and Bijan to discuss what problems Snapps can solve that dApps as they exist today can't solve. The podcast forays into how Mina snarks can be used as a bridging tool, the dynamics of their snarketplace and future Mina scaling solutions, plus so much more.
In this week's episode, Anna (https://twitter.com/AnnaRRose) chats with Emre Tekişalp (https://twitter.com/etekis) and Izaak Meckler (twitter.com/izmeckler) about what's new with Mina, O(1) Labs, the network launch and of course the anticipated release of Snapps to testnet later this year. Darrin Thomas is an ex-professional motocross and ATV motocross mechanic. Before becoming a mechanic he spent several years racing motocross before deciding he liked working on bikes. He then spent several years working as a motocross mechanic for amateur riders around Oklahoma before taking a professional position at Yoshimura Suzuki in California. Following his time at Yoshimura he was hired by the Snapp brothers as a full time mechanic for their ATVMX program. Darrin worked alongside Chase during all of his pro-am and professional success as an ATVMX racer where they won a pro-am title together and placed 6th overall in the premiere class Chase's rookie year. Chase's accomplishments as an ATVMX athlete are something that is still discussed among the ATVMX community to this day, and Darrin played a very significant role in that success. Following his tenure with the Snapps, he worked as a factory mechanic for Joel Hetrick and the Can-Am team. Darrin now works as one of the premiere bass boat mechanics for some of the world's most elite bass fisherman, including several members of the Bassmasters tour. Darrin is absolutely hilarious and has a really awesome story; you don't want to miss this one!

In today’s episode, Nikki Del Principe is joined by guests Evan Shapiro and Izaak Meckler. CEO Evan and CTO Izaak are both Co-Founders of O(1) Labs, the team behind Mina. Mina (formerly Coda Protocol), the world's lightest blockchain powered by participants, deploys recursive zk-SNARKs to ensure the blockchain remains the same size—22 kb—enabling anyone to sync the chain in seconds, ushering in a new era of blockchain accessibility. We hear how Evan and Izaak became interested in cryptocurrency and the technology behind it in high school and collaborated together on coding projects before bringing O(1) Labs to life. We learn about the transformation of the Coda Protocol to Mina and the importance of community input on the project. Evan and Izaak hope to solve the problems inherent to today’s internet and bring back creative expression through providing developers with the foundation and tooling they need to build Snapps, verifiable SNARK-powered smart contracts. They take us through the technology behind Mina and end the episode by discussing their predictions for the crypto sphere. Topics covered: - How Evan and Izaak became involved in cryptocurrency - Creating O(1) Labs to solve the architectural issues of the crypto space - The technological and societal impacts of crypto - The transformation of Coda to Mina - Formulating Mina's core values - What it means to be the world’s lightest blockchain-powered by participants - How Evan and Izaak aim to address the issues of today’s internet with Mina - Shoutout to the Mina community - Mina's implementation of Snapps - The importance of verifiability and transparency - Predictions for the crypto sphere in 2020 and beyond Links to Resources: Mina: https://minaprotocol.com/ Mina on Twitter: https://twitter.com/MinaProtocol Mina on Discord: https://discord.com/invite/RDQc43H Join Genesis program: https://minaprotocol.com/genesis
