Ever get stuck in the DMs with someone who says they want help but nothing actually moves forward?   In this episode of The Divorce Revolution Podcast, I'm breaking down something that trips up so many new coaches—how to tell if someone is actually ready to work with you or if they're just venting, looking for validation, or not quite there yet.   I talk about why so many discovery calls go nowhere, why people ghost after saying "yes," and how over-coaching in the DMs is usually a sign that you're missing one key skill: discernment. When you don't know how to spot readiness, you overextend yourself. You over-give and start to feel resentful. And then burnout creeps in.   But when you know what to look for? Everything changes.   Resources Mentioned: Join the waitlist for ReNewU, my signature group program for divorced moms ready to launch a coaching business that actually pays: https://products.ambershaw.com/signature-waitlist   What I Discuss: 02:43 Why someone can genuinely want a better life, business, or relationship and still not be ready to do the work. 04:42 The subtle difference between someone venting about their circumstances and someone who's actually ready to move forward 05:51 Signs of client readiness  07:22 What it looks like when someone is really just looking for reassurance 09:26 How having a rinse-and-repeat framework helps you qualify clients without pressure, chasing, or second-guessing yourself   Find more from Amber Shaw: Instagram: @msambershaw Website: ambershaw.com

We all deal with anger to varying degrees. But somewhere along the way, we're told that venting our anger can help get past it. I don't remember when I was first told to find ways to express my frustrations. Of course, we told screaming and yelling aren't the answer. But the quicker you can let go of it, the better off you will be. But a recent study from Ohio State University says that venting your anger is the wrong approach. Instead, you need to find ways to manage it using calming tactics. The goal is to calm down, so activities like meditation, yoga, or even calling a time-out are better for you… Click Here To Subscribe Apple PodcastsSpotifyAmazon MusicGoogle PodcastsTuneIniHeartRadioPandoraDeezerBlubrryBullhornCastBoxCastrofyyd.deGaanaiVooxListen NotesmyTuner RadioOvercastOwlTailPlayer.fmPocketCastsPodbayPodbeanPodcast AddictPodcast IndexPodcast RepublicPodchaserPodfanPodtailRadio PublicRadio.comReason.fmRSSRadioVurblWe.foYandex jQuery(document).ready(function($) { 'use strict'; $('#podcast-subscribe-button-13292 .podcast-subscribe-button.modal-699f5fab52052').on("click", function() { $("#secondline-psb-subs-modal.modal-699f5fab52052.modal.secondline-modal-699f5fab52052").modal({ fadeDuration: 250, closeText: '', }); return false; }); });

HVAC School - For Techs, By Techs

In this informative episode, Bryan and Bert dive deep into gas appliance safety and combustion analysis from the unique perspective of Florida HVAC technicians. While they humorously acknowledge that Florida's mild winters mean they don't work on gas furnaces daily, they make a compelling case that this actually makes their training even more critical. When technicians only encounter gas appliances occasionally, the stakes are higher—which is why they've developed rigorous protocols to ensure safety every single time. The conversation covers everything from the basics of gas leak detection to the nuances of carbon monoxide monitoring, combustion air zones, and proper venting. Bryan and Bert share real-world stories of dangerous situations they've encountered, from exploding pool heaters to improperly capped gas lines at vacation rentals. Their approach emphasizes that every gas leak is your problem when you're on site, regardless of why you were originally called out. This episode is packed with practical wisdom for both seasoned professionals working in gas-heavy markets and those who encounter these systems less frequently. Throughout the discussion, the hosts stress fundamental safety principles that apply across all markets: using your nose to detect leaks, understanding the difference between unspent gas and carbon monoxide, ensuring proper combustion air zones, and never ignoring warning signs like delayed ignition or flame rollout. They also tackle common misconceptions about equipment like flexible gas connectors, orphaned water heaters, and the real risks of cracked heat exchangers.  The conversation wraps up with important reminders about company lockout/tagout procedures, the critical importance of low-level carbon monoxide detectors, and the tools every technician should carry. Bryan and Bert's candid, no-nonsense approach makes complex safety topics accessible while never losing sight of how serious the consequences can be when gas work goes wrong. Topics Covered Gas leak detection and response protocols - Why every gas leak on site becomes your responsibility, using your nose as the first line of defense, and never leaving a leak for someone else to fix Carbon monoxide safety and monitoring - Understanding CO as a combustion byproduct, the limitations of standard UL-rated detectors, and the critical importance of low-level CO monitors Combustion air zones and depressurization - Identifying risks from sealed spaces, return air leaks, exhaust fans, and other equipment that can create dangerous negative pressure Delayed ignition and flame rollout - Recognizing warning signs, understanding causes, and why you should never ignore scorched wires or tripped rollout switches Proper gas line assembly and materials - Selecting appropriate materials for different environments, avoiding flexible connector failures, and ensuring proper sizing Combustion analysis fundamentals - Measuring CO levels in the flue, targeting air-free CO under 100 ppm, and understanding when adjustments are needed Natural draft vs. induced draft systems - Differences in safety considerations, orphaned water heaters, and the myth of oversized flue pipes Venting requirements and back drafting - Identifying improper venting, looking for evidence of back draft on water heaters, and ensuring proper flue design Gas pressure testing and adjustment - When to adjust and when not to, reading data tags, and understanding that most flame problems are air-related, not gas pressure Cracked heat exchangers in context - Why they're less common in warm climates, the role of proper airflow, and focusing on actual safety risks vs. edge cases Tools and equipment recommendations - Combustion analyzers, personal protective CO detectors, combustible gas detectors, precision manometers, and low-level CO alarms Lockout/tagout procedures - Following company protocols, communicating clearly with customers, and balancing safety requirements with homeowner autonomy   Have a question that you want us to answer on the podcast? Happy Venting just means that you're choosing a safe outlet for what bugs you,  As opposed to a full-blown battle royale every time you get a tad bit upset, Keep things in perspective, let off a little steam without too much fuss or to-do, Because if you make it an obsession, you'll get stuck wallowing in emotional debt. [full text below] Ep. 439 - Happy Venting We begin as always  with the Happy Creed. We believe in Happy,  in Balance and Growth,  of being Mindful and Grateful, Compassionate and Understanding. Yowza Haha My Happy Friends! The value of venting while various is by no means universally valid, Sure, it can be a great release, but it can also become a nasty habit, Constant complaining can turn the song in your heart into a bitter ballad, Transforming even the sweetest of bunnies into a vicious and angry rabbit. And who's going to want to listen to someone with nothing positive to say? Sure, it feels good to talk about what bothers us, especially if people agree, But there comes a point when it makes everything look like doomsday, ‘Cause if relationships get strained enough, even goodwill has no guarantee. Besides you may start feeling like the worst version of yourself too, The more you make a stink, the more you surrender your ability to cope, But reframe the blame, and accept that others make mistakes just like you do, And if they can avoid their own downfall, then maybe you too can dare to hope. Let's be real—nobody likes a complainer. Venting and complaining can look similar on the surface, but they're not the same thing. Venting is unloading to someone who isn't involved in the situation—someone safe who can listen, support you, and help you release pressure without judgment. Complaining is different: it's when you dump frustration on the person who's directly involved, and you do it in a one-sided way that leaves no room for a real conversation or a real outcome. Here's the key: complaining is single-edged—it's all about what someone did wrong, with no solution, no suggestion, and no path forward. And because it's one-sided, it produces no fruit. It divides relationships. It ends relationships. If something is bothering you—bring it up, absolutely—but don't bring it as a blast. Bring it as feedback. Feedback is double-edged in the best way: it includes what's not working and what could work better. Before you talk to the person, check yourself and ask one powerful question: “How would I want to change it?” Not “how should they change,” but what you can do, what you can suggest, what you can express as a need—so the conversation becomes constructive instead of corrosive. If you cut complaining out of your life and replace it with clear needs and real solutions, your relationships will level up fast—at work, at home, and everywhere you do life. And they shout out to Chris who loves the podcast.In this episode, they talk about conflict: the difference between venting and complaining. Venting is relieving pressure—getting something off your chest. Complaining is expecting a fix. Conflict happens is when someone is venting and we think they are complaining or the opposite.When you complain it is because you want something fixed. Tarina often complains—like about how her computer isn't working right. When you vent it's because you want to be heard. Nic often vents—he just needs to Tarina listen about the ache in his shoulder.Together they discover that Nic is more people focused and Tarina is more task focused. This influences how they each approach venting versus complaining. Tarina wants things fixed and Nic will listen to discover.As Nic and Tarina wisely observe our job is to listen without judgment. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure."1 Corinthians 10:13 NLTGod is still there in the place of wilderness and trials. Sometimes temptation doesn't find us, we find it. Yet, God is always with us. 1 Corinthians 10:1-13 tells us of the wilderness journey of the Hebrew people. There are 5 "scorpions" from the wilderness that we need to be aware of. Serpents and scorpions are used to describe our spiritual enemy. They hide in the darkness and live in the desert places. Don't walk in the desert, walk in the fullness of what God has for you. 1) Lust - desire for "more" - strong intense desire to please oneself through possessions, greed, money, or power. 2) Idolatry - a sin of spiritually immature people - Saul's idol was his self-image in front of the people. Aaron made the golden calf (sin of idolatry because of what the people wanted; he wanted to please the people). Idolatry is when something is more important to you than God. When the Lord corrects you, it's not because He hates you; it's because He loves you. 3) Sexual Immorality - God cannot bless sexual immorality. he cannot bless what He doesn't ordain. God blesses those united in covenant marriage. 4) Tempting the Lord - When you have the attitude that I am the exception. It is not the Lord's responsibility to help you sin. You can't defy sound judgement and expect God to make things right. God is not a vending machine. 5) Murmuring and Complaining - this indicates a lack of faith in God's will. Murmuring and complaining is the path to division. We want to have thankful hearts. A thankful heart is the gateway into the presence of God. Are you wondering in the wilderness unable to walk in all God has for you?God wants you to walk in victory. Luke 10:19 : God gives His disciples authority over the enemy. Luke 4:1-14 : Jesus was tempted and He overcame the enemy by the word of God. He came out with the power of the Spirit. The wilderness is a place where you learn to tread on serpents and you come out in the power of the Spirit. The purpose of temptation is not death by scorpion bite, but victory and the ability to walk in the power of the Spirit.

In this episode of Ambition 2.0, Amanda sits down with board-certified psychiatrist, researcher, and viral mental health educator Dr. Judith Joseph, MD, MBA, to talk about a form of depression that often flies under the radar: high-functioning depression. If you're the one who “has it together” (the dependable friend, the rock at work, the caregiver who never drops the ball), but feel numb, exhausted, or joyless inside, this conversation is going to hit uncomfortably close to home (in the best way). Dr. Judith breaks down: Why so many high-achieving, caregiving women are especially vulnerable The science-backed difference between happiness (external, elusive) and joy (internal, accessible) Her framework of the five V's of healing: validation, venting, values, vitals, and vision How people-pleasing and masochistic traits keep you stuck The surprising ways trauma, divorce, and “smaller” emotional wounds shape our ambition and burnout Why anhedonia (a loss of joy) is a red flag  How PMDD, postpartum, and perimenopause can amplify everything They also get into practical tools: how to set limits with toxic people you can't fully cut them off, how to support a friend with high-functioning depression without shaming them, and why scheduling joy is needed. If you've ever thought, “I'm functioning… but I'm not okay,” this episode will help you name it, understand it, and start to change it. 00:00 Intro 01:39 Judith's story of realizing she was depressed 03:19 Why high-achieving, caregiving women are vulnerable to high-functioning depression 04:41 The difference between happiness and joy 08:30 The five V's of healing 11:06 What masochism really means, how it became “people-pleasing,” and why women self-sacrifice 19:27 Venting vs trauma dumping  24:16 How Dr. Judith reclaimed joy through play 33:08 How to support a friend with high-functioning depression GUEST LINKS Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drjudithjoseph/?hl=en  TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@drjudithjoseph  YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmHQJaOerTsZJfOtiYz4sOg  Read High Functioning: https://bookshop.org/a/116169/9780316577298  https://drjudithjoseph.com/ FOLLOW THE PODCAST IG: https://www.instagram.com/girlboss/ | TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@girlboss  Amanda Goetz: https://www.instagram.com/theamandagoetz/  https://girlboss.com/pages/ambition-2-0-podcast  SIGN UP Subscribe to the Girlboss Daily newsletter: https://newsletter.girlboss.com/  For all other Girlboss links: https://linkin.bio/girlboss/  ABOUT AMBITION 2.0 Powered by Girlboss, Ambition 2.0 is a podcast where we'll be exploring what it really means to “have it all” in work, family, identity, and self… and if it's actually worth it. "Could you speak to the subject of gossip? As we raise 2 girls this is something my husband and I talk about often. How can we explain the difference between venting and gossip? When does sharing about your day at school cross the line into gossip? How can we teach the idea of being loyal to the absent in the way we speak about others? When friends are gossiping, how can our kids redirect the conversation? How can our words be uplifting like we are called to in the Bible?" - Autumn Dr. Mayfield is a former pastor, award-winning author, speaker, certified master Christian coach, mental health counselor, and Assistant Professor of Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Colorado Christian University. Ever pour your heart onto the page, feel lighter, and then find yourself stuck in the same loop a week later? We get it and we built this conversation to help you turn journaling from a quick reset into a reliable engine for transformation, clarity, and faith-centered growth.We start by separating regulation from resolution. Venting can calm the nervous system, and that matters, but lasting change asks for more: noticing the thought-emotion link, testing whether a belief serves your aims, and choosing language that creates movement. You'll hear a simple litmus test to spot when journaling becomes a pressure valve, plus a practical way to reframe without bypassing your experience. We walk through healthy detachment... caring without being consumed...so you can release ego drama without losing your drive, your goals, or your full emotional range.Emotions are created by thoughts but live as sensations; if writing stays in the head, you miss vital data. We use somatic awareness to metabolize anger, anxiety, and confusion safely and fully. To leave a review on Apple Podcasts, open the app and go to the show's page by searching for it or finding it in your library.
