Here in the UK, we're striding into summer - we've just celebrated the Queen's Platinum Jubilee where people were quaffing Pimm's at street parties up and down the country and with Wimbledon just around the corner, an episode on Summer Fruits seemed the perfect way to add some extra garnish to your summer excitement. We'll discover what barbarians and rhubarb have in common, why you should carry a basket as a third wheel on a date and what could make you a ‘top banana'. Susie and Gyles share stories of their favourite - and least favourite - deserts and with peachy keenness, Gyles shares a number of royal name drops. We'll dive to the bottom of the sea to meet Davy Jones in our correspondence section before wrapping up with an excellent trio from susie (see below) and a beautiful poem from Gyles. In the last sermon of the Summer Fruit series, guest speaker, Sean Cronin from Passion for Planting speaks on Self Control.
Gentleness is one of those words that because of how we use it currently, we can either dismiss its importance, think it only applies to certain people, assume it's not for us, or even worse, see gentleness as a bad thing. But what exactly is gentleness in the Bible?
Throughout all of the Scriptures, one of the things the writers of the Bible seem to be in full agreement is that God is a faithful God. But what does that mean exactly?

“An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” You've likely heard this saying more than you can count in your lifetime. And while you may feel that the saying is overused, it's entirely true (and applicable to all fruits)! Fruit is a great way to stay healthy, refreshed, and energized during the busy and hot summer months. Dr. Vikki Petersen, certified clinical nutritionist, chiropractor, and functional medicine doctor, highlights the benefits of eating an adequate amount of fruits every single day: “On a daily basis you want to eat two to three servings of fresh fruit. How can we have joy that lasts even in the midst of adverse circumstances?
Hello to you in Bainbridge Island, Washington. Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is 60 Seconds, your daily dose of hope, imagination, wisdom, stories, practical tips, and general riffing on this and that.It must be close to 40 years now I left the East Coast and headed West to start a new life driving the Chevy Camaro with the 350 V-8 engine straight shot across the country and then north into Monterey, California. My baby sister, Michele, rode shotgun. We can tell you that there is nothing flatter than the Midwest plains. What kept the miles from driving us crazy? We'd stop at farm stands, buy bags of cherries to eat and then spit the cherry stones at the windshield hoping that the stone would drop into the space between the windshield and the dashboard before falling to the car floor. The one with the most stones on the car floor at the end of the day would win. Here on Whidbey the cherry and peach stands have opened up. Summer fruit - like the season - may be fleeting; but our memories are long. This is the place to thrive together. Come for the stories - stay for the magic. Have you ever considered what it actually looks like to live like Jesus would have? We talk about this all the time but... the life of Jesus is vastly different from our life. We've never seen Jesus have to deal with the pressures of a job on the Hill, or juggling a professional career while also trying to raise children. Or navigating the dating scene in DC. So if the call for Christians is to live like Jesus. What in the world does that look like? The answer, according to the Scriptures, is being guided and changed by the Spirit of God. It is the Spirit who leads us into a Christlike life. And the result of that work, is what the Apostle Paul called the fruit of the Spirit, 9 virtues that the Children of God display in their life and that we can see present in the life of Jesus. This sermon kicks off a 10-week series where we are going to look at what it looks like to live by the Spirit, how we can see each fruit of the Spirit present in the life of Jesus, and how different that is from how the world today lives.

November 29, 2020 SS, Amos 8:8-14.This morning we continue our study in the eighth book of Amos. Like the Nile, which annually provided water and rich soil deposits for farmers by greatly overflowing its banks, so judgement would overflow the land. During prosperity, the nation rejected the prophets; in captivity no word from the Lord could be found.
