Tonight we are reflecting on Renegade which is a 1986 arcade game developed by Technos Japan and published by Taito. Taito later released a port developed by Technos Japan in-house for the NES in North America in January of 1988. Like Capcom, Taito was also responsible for porting popular arcade games to the NES like Elevator Action, Legend of Kage and Arkanoid. They also published some of the most highly sought-after games on the NES like Flinstones: Surprise at Dinosaur Peak, Panic Restaurant and Little Samson. Tonight our guest is Deacon Granamyr. The miNEStry founders, Archbishop Dracul and Father Avram, seek to inspire their 8-bit parishioners through methodical and ceremonial scrutiny of the library of games on the Nintendo Entertainment System.

This week, Tom talks about a run through one of TW's childhood classics, and we get sidetracked a lot talking about Technos Japan and the wild trek its properties have taken. Also, TW talks about how NieR Replicant is making him just cry all the time, and Tom gives his thoughts on the Mortal Kombat movie, which are... mixed? Anyway, go play River City Girls, it's great. CYBORGS AIN'T LADIES!! We grab Technos Japan's ultra-violent and over-the-top The Combatribes by the heels and take it for a spin - and have a lot of fun doing it! Join us as we rediscover this often overlooked beat ‘em up playing characters that all skipped leg day. Did we just find Pastblaster's long lost pappy? How did a thrash metal band mascot become this game's villain? Are we cheating by including this game in our two-player brawler series? What post-9/11 changes did this game have to make? All that plus our eulogy to Technos, head bashes, Karnov, cultural insensitivities, Joker, and why this game is better than Double Dragon.

A new miniseries kicks (and punches) off with twin brothers trying to rescue their one lover -- Technos Japan's Double Dragon. What 1970s film did Technos use for inspiration to bring about the age of the arcade brawler? How many enemies does it take to really slow down a game? Why did we record the worst skit in podcast history? We take a serious look at graphic violence against women in arcade games, a less serious look at MAME builds that we hate, and talk the nostalgia of RC car racing. All that and Lorenzo Lamas, getting pushy with coin pushers, throuples, big people fitting in tiny cars, and NES soundtracks.

Recently, games that Eddie Inzauto and Jason Fanelli have been playing are turning up the nostalgia dials, be it through familiar characters or mechanics. Yoshi's Woolly World, Mega Man Legacy Collection, Super Mario Maker, Minecraft: Story Mode, 20XX, Guns, Gore & Cannoli, and ChargeShot all remind us of some fond element of our gaming histories on this "Ultra" episode number 64 of the Versus Node Podcast. Also, Eddie extols the excellent Plantronics RIG 500E surround sound gaming headset. With a tweaked fighting system and two player co-op action, Technos Japan’s Double Dragon II: The Revenge saw a port on virtually every system available between 1988 and 1993. Eddie Inzauto and Sinan Kubba have been playing a ton of games! Some old, some new, some adventure, some survival, and one completely remade. Resident Evil HD Remaster, Hand of Fate, Aerena – Masters Edition, How to Survive, Tales from the Borderlands, Game of Thrones, Dyscourse, and Life is Strange are all on the table this episode, along with thoughts on content delivery, curation, and more. Plus the Treasure Chest of Cool Things. Eddie Inzauto and Sinan Kubba discuss the games they've been playing as of late. There's some old-school dungeon crawling, with a fresh take on controls in Diablo III (console version), there's some old-school roguelike play in the indie game The Depths of Tolagal, and there's some old-school machine-gunning in Gunslugs on OUYA. Then there's the Jackbox Party Pack, which does some fun things with party gaming, and Life is Strange, the first attempt at a Telltale-like adventure, but with time-bending mechanics. All this, plus a Bloodborne discussion. And of course there's the Treasure Chest of Cool Things. Eddie Inzauto invites podcasting veteran Sinan Kubba to join him for a discussion of the games they've been playing as of late. From the new and controversial The Order: 1886, to the aging and lesser-known Hammerwatch, with some of Telltale's Game of Thrones adaptation and the Earthbound-smitten Citizens of Earth in between, the two have plenty to talk about on this episode of Versus Node. Eddie Inzauto, Jason Fanelli, and Dan Crabtree are joined (or were at the time of recording on August 26th, at least) by Big Red Potion podcast host Sinan Kubba on this episode of VS Node to chat about all of the different types of multiplayer that gamers have enjoyed over the years. What about games' multiplayer components make them so appealing, and which ones could we do without? What are the best examples of the different types of multiplayer out there, and which games, specifically, are our favorites? Inspired by Eddie's obsession with Dark Souls, this podcast covers far more than just the occasional message on the ground. Outro, "Dragon Brothers" from Technos Japan's River City Ransom, originally composed by Kazunaka Yamane for Technos Japan's Double Dragon, 1987.
