POST- PDF- https://erickimphotography.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/KING-OF-THE-STREETS-2.pdf # KING OF THE STREETS Recently, I embarked on an adventure with Seneca, my son. We visited the central library in downtown LA, a magnificent place. If you drive to downtown LA, park at the central public library, and with a valid Los Angeles public library card, parking costs just one dollar with validation for two or three hours at the information desk. We explored downtown LA, including the Apple Theater (with great public bathrooms in the Apple Store on the bottom level). We walked by my old haunts on Hope Street and Broadway in front of ilcafe. We tried to visit Santee Alley in the fashion district, but it was too hot, and another event was happening at the library, so we decided to visit next time. During our walk, I captured a street photo I was proud of—a tattooed man smoking a cigarette in front of a muscle car. I put down Seneca for a moment, grabbed my camera, took a few shots, and continued our walk. While on Broadway, I saw a group of street photographers with Fujifilm X100 cameras and a film Hasselblad X panoramic camera. One of them might have even taken a photo of me and Seneca. I felt a sense of pride seeing street photography alive and well, knowing that I had contributed to its popularity through my blog, work, YouTube videos, and e-books. ## The Death of Slim Shady A fellow rap and hip-hop enthusiast told me that Eminem released a new album. I was impressed by Eminem's longevity in the music industry. The greatest of all time (GOAT) is the most durable of all time, the one whose name will live on the longest. At a public library event near the Otis School of Design, I met a man who recognized Seneca's name from the Roman Stoic philosopher. It reminded me that names last. Choosing a meaningful name for your child can be significant, like naming them after someone who had a major impact on your life. ## The Path Forward Perpetually restarting with a fresh slate is essential. Don't be constrained by your past self or old styles. In photography and life, evolve and try new things. Seeing artists who never change their style becomes boring. Aim to evolve like a Pokémon, from Charmander to Charmeleon to Charizard, or from Magikarp to Gyarados. ## Random Pokémon Thoughts If you're born around 1988, you probably played or watched Pokémon. Today's kids still know what Pokémon is. Thinking of yourself as a high-level Snorlax can help you ignore annoying behaviors. Asking someone about their favorite or spirit Pokémon reveals a lot about their personality. ## Being the Number One Person in Your Niche It's better to be number one in a small, specific niche than to be number two or three in a broader field. For example, in photography, focusing on street photography rather than general photography helped me find my place. ## The Planet is Big Enough With over 8 billion people, even a small niche can have a significant impact. In photography, although many have iPhones, the community of dedicated photographers is still relatively small. Being part of a small, exclusive club is desirable. ## Pick a Fight Inspired by a scene in Fight Club, sometimes it's beneficial to stand up for yourself and make a fuss. If you suspect someone is trying to bully or disrespect you, react strongly. This applies to various situations, such as when employees treat you poorly based on appearances. ## Vanity Objects Despite not using my film Leica MP camera for years, it's a valuable vanity object I plan to pass down to Seneca. Film Leica cameras, like the MP or MA, might be the only cameras that can last 300 years. In contrast, digital Leica cameras are more vanity objects today. ## Bitcoin and Street Photography In the modern era, making money from art through traditional methods like selling prints is outdated. Instead, invest in Bitcoin.

You pick a Charmander because it's the only one that gets to learn fly when it's fully evolved, but that's just the easy route. It works, yeah. But have you ever considered a Squirtle? It's the only one that doesn't get any dual typing at all, that's the true patriot's path. Back in my day we had to evolve uphill both ways, you damn kids have it too easy, everybody should have to suffer like I did. What was I talking about? Oh right, this episode is talking about Smashterpiece #45: Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, our first real Pokemon game. Things did not go according to plan. That's another thing you young'uns don't get: plans! And home ownership! Anyways we're joined by our friend Devon as we delve into the region of Kanto for a remake of the original Pocket Monster collecting games. Who are you? Where are my teeth?Join us next time as we return to Planet Zebes but this time for the first time in Smashterpiece #46: Metroid: Zero Mission

On 27 February 1996, gamers were first introduced to characters Pikachu, Eevee, and Charmander when the first Pokémon games were released in Japan. Known as Pocket Monsters Red and Pocket Monsters Green, the games were released simultaneously on the Nintendo Game Boy hand-held console. In a matter of years the franchise would make the leap from an ageing games console to television animation and beyond, making it a worldwide pop culture powerhouse. I'm Brian Friel, developer relations at Phantom, and I'm super excited to introduce our guest today, Solidity, the creator of a new on-chain game called Solana Plays Pokemon. sol_idity. Welcome to the show.Solidity (00:26):Hi, GM. GM, everybody.Brian (00:28):GM, it's great to have you here. Solidity, Solana Plays Pokemon. Those are some words that people have probably heard in their life, but maybe not in the same sentence. Can you describe for our listeners who haven't played this game before, what is “Solana Plays Pokemon”?Solidity (00:44):Solana Plays Pokemon generally is an on-chain game where players will vote on the blockchain to play the game together. So every button press is collaborative and everyone on Solana is playing a single game of Pokemon collaboratively together on the blockchain. Brian (00:59):In real time. Yeah. So this is a new game. How long ago did this launch?Solidity (01:03):January. I think about a week-plus ago. Yes.Brian (01:05):Wow. So 10 days ago, you launched this game on Solana and essentially it's a website where there's a Pokemon emulator in there and then there's ability to connect your wallet and anyone else who's on the site at the same time can all vote for what button you press to continue playing the game and then every 10 seconds, Solana is just tallying these up and putting these inputs into the game. And in 10 days, this thing, in my world and Twitter world, has taken Solana Twitter by storm. I believe at the time of this recording, which is January 17th, we've officially beaten the game. Is that correct? Solana has beaten Pokemon?Solidity (01:38):Yeah, but I think we've beaten it for quite a few days really. I mean, for three or four days. Yeah, we've been around for I think 15 days, so I think it took about a week or 10 days to complete the game. So the game is kind of a bit done. Yes.Brian (01:50):Yeah. This is super cool. So basically you put this thing out there, Twitter catches it, all of a sudden, you have all these people who are connecting their wallets, playing this game collectively. It's chaos. Then there's trying to have organization, you've made some changes to the game. I want to get into all the kind of details and how you've built it and what the game is and all that. I would categorize this as potentially a new genre of game. Before we dive into everything that you've built, can you tell us a little bit about who you are? You go by the name Solidity, how did you decide to build this and why did you decide to build this on Solana?Solidity (02:24):Personally, I've been in Solana since, I think, September of 2021. In the beginning, I was just doing NFTs, minting stuff in general, just doing the usual Degen stuff. I was a web2 developer already, so I got more curious about developing on Solana. In a sense, I started with Solana because it was one of the blockchains that had the best experience in a sense in that the transactions were very fast, gas fees were low. It's like, why do people not start doing NFTs on other chains? Why is Solana a lot of people's first chain? It is because the gas fees are very low, so even minting an NFT back then, even at all-time highs, it cost like what? Two USD to mint an NFT, which was unheard of in the whole space back then, and that's why in a sense, I kind of stuck to Solana and continue doing Solana even after I stopped being a Degen, I continue developing for the chain.(03:11):I was trying to learn smart contract development for the longest time. In a sense, it's kind of hard to learn something new when, in a sense, you have other stuff in your life like working a full-time job. So over the Christmas holidays, that was when I was like, "Okay, this is when I'm going to really do something to learn how to develop smart contracts." And I feel like the best way to learn how to develop something new, you have to write a program and deploy to the main net to successfully learn how to write these kind of smart contracts properly.(03:42):So why do I want to make a Pokemon game that is playable on-chain? So the reason is kinda interesting because I was very interested in the concept of the blockchain oracle, how do we get external sources of data onto the blockchain? Some important sources of information would be maybe a set price of a coin. So, DeFi exchanges all need information off chain, and I was very curious about how the blockchain gets this data? That's why I was like, if I'm going to write a smart contract program, it has to have something to do with oracles, I want to in a sense make my own oracle and implement it. And that in a sense, the Solana Plays Pokemon idea was kind of born because one of the first few ideas of an oracle I thought of would be maybe a game control. So what if I could have an oracle that gives me output from a, let's say, a Game Boy emulator?(04:31):And that was something that I was like, "Hey, I could actually work with that." So I would say that it is kind of inaccurate to say that the game runs on the blockchain. It starts all the states on the blockchain, but it does not really run on the blockchain. The game runs off-chain and then data is transmitted onto the chain, so it is sort of an oracle, just that it's not decentralized. That was kind of my inspiration for making the game and now I felt that it was a pretty interesting idea and I worked on it over the Christmas holidays. Then everything subsequently happened, I guess. Yes.Brian (05:03):Yeah, no, that's awesome and there's a lot to unpack there, but just to tease that out a little more, so you were a Web2 dev before all this. You said you had a full-time job and essentially just over the Christmas break, you decided, "Hey, I'm going to finally learn how to do Solana program development." And I assume, did you build this in Anchor or did you build this in native Rust Solana programs?Solidity (05:25):I used Anchor, yeah. Native Rust is a bit too much, I guess.Brian (05:29):Yeah, but that's still pretty incredible that in a couple weeks, you build this thing from zero to one. You deploy in the wild and it's battle tested. Like you said, you learn best by deploying the main net. You have all these people actually using this program. I want to ask, before we get into talking about the game, just a little bit more on the development journey. Were there any big surprises or challenges that you faced as you built this and as you learned the ins and outs of Solana?Solidity (05:54):I'm actually a software engineer working in the Solana space. My full-time job, I'm working for more on the DeFi protocols on Solana.Brian (06:01):Okay.Solidity (06:02):But I'm more of a front-end developer, so that's why I was very curious to learn more about the back-end aspects. I would say that for the learning journey of bridging from the front-end to the back-end, smart contracts in a sense, what was very interesting about Solana compared to other blockchain languages, maybe Solidity on the EVM chains is the concept of PDAs. I feel that PDA is a very elegant concept and if you use them right, they're actually very powerful and that was the most interesting thing that I, in a sense, learned about Solana as I was doing this.Brian (06:35):No, I couldn't agree more. That was one of my first entry points as well, was writing an early PDA guide. Definitely something elegant, Solana's architecture there. So that's a story I've heard a lot though too, is people work full-time in the Solana space and it's essentially Web2 development skills translated over to a Web3 world. You're probably building something in React, definitely something in TypeScript, but from the front-end you're using Web3 JS and there's some intricacies to awaiting certain actions on a blockchain, but you don't really get into the program side of things. It's super cool that you're able to pick this up and deploy basically a full app in just a couple weeks.(07:10):I want to talk a little bit more about the game holistically, what this means, because a lot of people see, "Okay, yeah, you're playing Pokemon, that's cool. People do that all the time." But there's something unique here and you did say, the game's not being run on the blockchain, this is a Pokemon emulator that's being run like any other emulator. But the unique thing is there's this social coordination aspect of it that the blockchain is coordinating, where anyone can kind of show up on this site.(07:38):It's not like you're making a team match where some server is organizing players together. There doesn't necessarily have to be a concept of a chat. You could just have random actors doing their own thing. You did decide to build a chat as you went. Talk a little bit about the genre of this game. This seems to be something new where it's kind of multiplayer in real time, but you don't know who's on your team, who isn't. You decide to build features also as you go. How did you decide to build these features? Were some of these planned? Were some of these reacting to what you saw in the wild and how did you experience this as you built it?Solidity (08:12):I would say that it's an interesting genre because I expected there to be a lot more chaos. I didn't expect everyone to complete the game so early on, so that was surprising. I expected more bad actors in a sense. There was a bad actor, he or she released our starter Pokemon.Brian (08:27):Yeah, I want to go in on that. So you get a starter Pokemon when you start any version of the gen one. I played yellow growing up and I think it was red or blue that you guys were playing and a lot of people get emotionally attached to this thing. You get a little Squirtle or a Charmander, you're supposed to grow it into this great thing and classic internet, it's like you guys kick this off and you beat the first gym leader and someone just goes and releases the Pokemon in the wild and you can never get it back. Was that surprising to you? Did you expect to see more of that troll behavior?Solidity (08:55):Yeah, it wasn't that surprising. I expected to see a lot more of those troll behaviors. Even some of my friends in real life who are in the Solana space, they're like, "Oh, you have this thing. People are going to come in to release Pokemon and stuff." And I'm like, "That's the fun part. That's why it's decentralized. Anyone can do anything they want to. Just connect their wallet." I mean, the wallet address will be on-chain, but that's all there is to it. And I'm kind of disappointed there was not much more drama, but that was attributed to the strong community who were defending the game. So it's like when they see anyone taking steps to go and release or do anything funny, then they'll outvote the bad actor.Brian (09:30):Yeah, it's like you had a time delay because you can only make one move every, what was it, 10 seconds, is that right?Solidity (09:36):Yeah, 10 seconds.Brian (09:37):So yeah, you could see somebody walking to the computer in the game to release the Pokemon. That's how you did it. And Twitter, it was kicking a beehive. People could just rally and log in and overvote this person. I think that's also kind of a wild component where the players of the game maybe aren't always playing the game, they're reacting to the state of things. Like, it's a game that could potentially run 24/7 and things are updating and more players pile in to add cooks to the kitchen at the last minute. I've never seen something like that before in a game. I think that's pretty wild.Solidity (10:06):Yeah, it was kind of what I was expecting in a sense, the changes that I subsequently made to the game, there were actually quite a few changes. Most of the changes, I actually did not really plan for them. I was like, "Okay, this thing is kind of done. I'm not going to touch it anymore. I'm just going to watch people play." That was my initial point of view. But then once enter main net and people started playing, then some of the flaws were kind of clear. It's like, maybe sometimes the game runs a bit too slowly and, in a sense, it's gaming, so you want the immediate feedback to what you press.(10:34):So there's a lot of work on optimizing, how am I going to make the game faster? So for example, Solana is very fast already. So in a sense, there was really nothing much I had to do on the underlying technology. But for some of the other small things, maybe let's say, for example, on the game state, I actually started on IPFS. They're not started directly on the blockchain. They're started on IPFS and the IPFS ID is referenced on the blockchain. So what I did is that I ran my own IPFS node, so that uploads for the safety and the image is faster and that probably cut down about three seconds per execution. And some other things, like maybe a turbo mode to allow people to vote for multiple buttons at once.(11:15):So in a sense, a lot of my iterations were really geared on, how do I make this game, in a sense, more responsive and faster? Because that's what keeps people's attention. The problem might have been I made the game a bit too fast because I expected a lot more chaos. So the problem with some of those, in a sense, enhancements with that, it made it easier to complete the game. It made it harder for bad actors to come in, in a sense, I guess at the end, if I make a V2, then I'll be looking at some of the other decisions to make. Brian (11:48):V2, I love it. That's a hint at what's to come, but yeah. You mentioned that your kind of North Star I guess is making the game more engaging, basically cutting out these downtimes between feedback. Is there anything that you think in particular is needed in either the development ecosystem or maybe something that wallets can implement or some feature in the gaming, tooling world that would help make games on Solana this more and more frictionless, kind of like you were just using a normal website? Because right now there is a lot of friction. You connect the wallet, every action, you get a simulation, you send that and you have to wait and coordinate and all this, but you can kind of get glimpses of a world where you're like, "Wow, this could work just a normal game I'm playing on a web browser one day." What do you think are some of the biggest pieces that are missing, having developed a game now on your own?Solidity (12:42):For me, for this game, people have feedback when we do that, the wallet approvers are kind of cumbersome, but the fact is that I feel that for security, it is very important for people to understand every transaction they are submitting to the blockchain. Because real money is involved. There was this guy who asked me to provide a box to put in his private key so that he can play the game without approval and I would kind of put it out there. Right now that is not a very good security practice, so that is something we shouldn't do.(13:08):I would say that since Solana is a very fast blockchain, so there is really not much to complain about, in the sense, the back-end side of things, the transaction settlements and stuff like that. They're fast enough for online games in a sense. Now the question we should grapple with is more of the wallet approvers. What is a good balance between security and speed? How integrated a wallet is into an application?(13:30):So for me, actually Solana Plays Pokemon is supported on mobile too. That's a primary way I've personally been playing it. I'm playing it on the Phantom mobile app. And the thing about Solana is that there's this mobile wallet adapter, which is pretty cool. If you were on an Android phone and if you were to open the website, the Solana Plays Pokemon website on any web browser, you'll be able to connect your wallet on the web browser itself and then you open your native wallet app.(14:00):So it's these kinds of integrations that make gaming, or not even gaming, but everything you do in the Web3 space more frictionless for the user. I remember the first time I used the mobile wallet adapter, I was also shocked. I was doing a jigsaw and I was like, "I just saw money on my Chrome, on my phone." And I felt like, "Oh, that's like the future." Yeah, it was very interesting.Brian (14:22):Yeah, it just works. You don't have to go through the in-app browser anymore, it just works. We would love to get that on iOS too, believe me, we're proud to support that on Android. iOS is another battle, but that's a little bit out of our control right now. But I agree that's totally where this is heading. I also totally resonate with the auto approve. Sounds like you've been around Solana a long time. You probably were there for when Phantom used to have a semblance of auto-approve in the wallet, which was a pretty wild, wild West days. And I think there's something that, having had that feature once, we definitely understand how awesome it can be. It's just like you said, it's very, very important that you do that safely. So that's definitely something that we're thinking about too. I think there could be a balance there. That's something we're actively kind of researching right now.(15:09):One question too is, you hear a lot from games that I see are oftentimes, "Hey, we're building in Unity or we're building in Unreal. We're building these really intensive environments that give this great sense of realism in a game." But they're development cycles could be pretty long. I mean, you built this thing in a couple weeks in a browser. It seems like that might be the first frontier of this kind of crypto gaming that a lot of people talk about. Do you feel strongly about that? Do you think games in a browser is a pretty viable path for a while? Or how do you think about the different environments in which a crypto game could live?Solidity (15:47):In a sense, it could live off the web browser, it could be the desired state where it is like you download some game on Steam and it has all the Web3 components you need. Personally, I feel that we are still very far from it. There's a lot of ideological pressure. Traditional gaming communities, they absolutely hate NFTs and stuff like that. So I do feel that we are still quite some time away from one day where that's the norm. I do feel that in the short term, web browser games will be the entry point to gaming on Web3 because there's less friction now, just visit a website, approve a transaction, you don't need to sign in or create an account, just approve for transaction or see some actions and be like, "Oh, that's cool." But in this current time, I guess society is still not ready for that yet. Brian (16:31):Yeah, no, I agree. I think it's something that everyone can see coming, but it's a question of what's the path to get there, what happens in between? Things are always changing in this space and so it's good to be reactive like that. Just to circle back on the game. So despite all odds, despite the trolls, people completed the game. We might have released our starter Pokemon, but we got the Nido Chad, the Nido King and basically breeze through the game. Where do you go from here with the game? I've seen a couple things that you've kicked around on Twitter, but what's the current state of the game development? Does this project live on? How far are you trying to take this thing?Solidity (17:06):Currently, I'm just letting people mint NFT of whatever rounds they have voted in. So they'll be able to go to a page where they can just mint the NFT of the frames that they voted in. So it's like a small little memory of their game playing.Brian (17:18):Oh, that's cool. Because all the game states on-chain, each action was recorded on-chain. So you can mint an NFT based on that action?Solidity (17:26):Yeah. After this, I'm going to deploy the code and probably just check the security of stuff and be like, "Oh, okay, I will deploy it." Yeah, but I'm still checking the security of stuff to make sure that it's secure. For medium-term goals, I've been reaching out to a few DAOs to try to get together a competitive version of the game and we will see how that goes. I'm currently in talks with a few DAOs who try to get it set up. Brian (17:50):And the thinking being that each DAO has their own game. Is it just DAO members that could play or would it be like you could attack another DAO's game and try to troll them?Solidity (18:02):You could attack another DAO, I guess. Yeah, they'll just all have different websites to play the game on, but they'll be playing the same game and we just see who is the best DAO in a sense.Brian (18:11):But it's permissionless, so it's not like I need to be part of MonkeDAO to play MonkeDAO's game. I could go in and release their Charmander. Not saying I would do that, but yeah.Solidity (18:20):Yeah, that's the current plan, yeah.Brian (18:22):That's cool. So that adds another layer of, you gotta watch your back. Someone's always got to be awake. No, you can't always be sleeping when you're playing this game.Solidity (18:31):Yes, there's more at stake in round two. Yep.Brian (18:32):Wow, okay. That's pretty wild. Yeah, I could definitely see a world too, because it's on Solana, it's on a blockchain where there's a token at stake here or something that really aligns incentives and then all of a sudden, you have a pretty wild scenario. This is kind of like taking eSports to the next level. I could see some long Twitch streams about this one day. That's super exciting. So it's just you working on this, correct? You said, you learned this over Christmas, you built it yourself. It sounds like this is something that could potentially have legs, you could continue this. Do you have plans to bring more people on or do you think it's just going to be you for the foreseeable future?Solidity (19:08):For the foreseeable future, I'll be supporting this on my own. In a sense, I'm just having fun along the way. It's like, "Oh, I'm learning new things." I'm writing code that I've never written before, so I haven't really thought beyond having fun. Yeah, so we'll see about that I guess. Yeah.Brian (19:24):Well I'd say that's a good guiding North Star just to have fun. So far it's worked out pretty well for you. As we begin to bring this to a close, one question I have, you mentioned, "Hey, I'm just having fun. I've just been learning this on my own." You've done this in a couple weeks. If there's another developer that's listening to this podcast, let's say, they're kind of like the standard Solana front-end dev. They know their way around, what 3JS, they know some Solana terms. Having gone through this, what would you recommend as their process for getting involved with building their first Solana program, deploying to main net? Are there any gotchas that got you caught up? Is there anything that you would impart on them as they begin that journey?Solidity (20:02):Yeah, I would say that generally, there's nothing really surprising, I guess. Anchor has been around for quite some time. What I hope is that old Anchor, there are a bit more gotchas with old Anchor. The new Anchor is pretty well documented. If there's really something they can't really understand, you can just look at the source code. So it is still kind of fine for me to get started. I use this resource code, SolDev, S-O-L-D-E-V.Brian (20:31):That's Italo's app. Italo Casas.Solidity (20:32):Yeah. So there's a course on it that was really amazing. Probably you'll be able to  write your first full on-chain program after you run through the whole course. So yeah, if I had to recommend resources, that's what I would recommend. Yes.Brian (20:44):That's awesome. Well, Solidity, this has been a great conversation. One question that we always ask our guests in closing, want to hear from you is, who is a builder that you admire in the Web3 ecosystem?Solidity (20:56):Okay, so that is a very interesting question. I kind of knew that you were going to be asking that and I tried to kind of think about it. But the fact is that I haven't been on crypto Twitter for very long. Know who I kind of want to build with. I mean the people I work with, they're very talented. I work for different protocols, so I love working with them. In the larger space itself, probably maybe people from the Solana Foundation, maybe even the Metaplex team. Sometimes I do look at the source code for stuff because sometimes I want to understand how they do certain things. I want to understand the intricacies of things and in a sense, when I look at the source code, it's like it's elegant, it's very well written. And the interesting thing about this is that they're always iterating and these are the kind of values that I kind of write with and these are the kind of people that I want to work with.Brian (21:40):Yeah, no, I couldn't agree more. Those are two great examples and nothing's ever finished. I would say. Everyone's always iterating and looking to improve and everything can always be improved, so it's a really great value to uphold. Well, Solidity, this has been awesome. Thank you so much for coming on and telling your story. Where can people go to learn more about Solana Plays Pokemon?Solidity (22:00):They can go to solana.playspokemon.xyzBrian (22:07):Awesome. Solana.playspokemon.xyz – That's great. Well, I'm proud to say that I played for a couple turns. I one-shotted a Zubat with Thunderbolt from our Nido King. So I look forward to minting that NFT that commemorates that. And I also look forward to seeing, what I believe, is potentially a new game genre. Where this goes from here, like you said, it will keep it fun, keep developing and keep changing things and improving and I really look forward to seeing where this goes. Thank you so much for coming on the show.Solidity (22:32):Thank you, sir.

S3E87: Reasons Christians should not celebrate birthdays… , Pastor Newms [0:00] Hello and welcome hope you guys are having a good week.  [0:08] This is the live recording hello and welcome, the recording of season 3 episode 87 of the Breen Manifesto faith hope and love for the modern Christian I'm pastor newms and Pastor Bill is still out and so we are going solo this evening.  [0:34] So start off by talking about our week and how it was our week was pretty good. Not too hectic like we've had a couple of hectic weeks this week was a little less hectic. Still kind of crazy just because you know work and work and everything going on you know but overall nothing crazy happened nothing big happened.  [1:07] I just realized that my youngest daughter left her water filled bottle of Mountain Dew in my office, next to Cholomander and that that's funny because now it looks like Cholomander has a Mountain Dew but that's that that tracks so that's good.  [1:28] For those of you who are out listening to the.  [1:34] The podcast and not watching the live recording my backdrop, I have several Build-A-Bears one of which is a Charmander with a beanie down low like a proper cholo would wear and so he is cholo mender and. It appears he is drinking a Mountain Dew this evening so that's very funny. So overall the week was pretty good busy but good. Nothing nothing huge my wife did get a job this week she starts on Monday tomorrow which is Monday which is going to be kind of interesting, and I spent way too much time out of the house this weekend, hey I don't like leaving the house I'm a home person I like sitting in my little see desk right here and I don't enjoy moving from my see desk and so, I did a lot this particular. Weekend yesterday and watched.  [2:59] Thor love and thunder which is a very humorous retelling of. Thor's life from the standpoint of.  [3:16] I can't remember the guys name but the rock dude I always want to call him crunk in that's not right because he reminds me of krunk. But whatever his name is the rock guy is the narrator through the whole movie and so if you go into the movie Korg thank you. If you go into the movie knowing he's the narrator it's a great movie if you go in expecting the exact same Thor movie that you're used to you might not like it but it is great as far as. Korg telling the story no spoilers of course but Korg is. Cork is Cork and so it's a good movie and so I consumed a lot of Marvel leading up to it because I was a couple I was. I was a couple of things behind and so I watched a lot of Marvel stuff over the week some of the stuff on Disney plus and everything and then today we actually went and had hibachi which we haven't had Hibachi since we moved to. Back to Tennessee so it's been a couple of years and so that was really good and went to a good place here in town and and that was very enjoyable the girls both thoroughly enjoyed it which is always fun.  [4:44] And. So the next thing we want to do is do getting another pastors which is a segment of the show that I don't even like but we continue to do it because.  [5:28] And the problem is is money is a great motivator now. I would say you couldn't pay me enough to stay in a couple of different jobs. And there are some that I physically couldn't do if it is a certain level of texture smell I physically can't but I would try. If I'm getting paid.  [5:59] But I definitely wouldn't continue doing a lot of jobs anything that's gross if you think about it and it you go that might be gross I wouldn't be able to do it I am. An inside person and I don't enjoy being dirty. I'm the oh no it's hot outside let's change our shirt two times in a day type person not a let's get sweaty and and and do anything outside so there's a lot of jobs that I wouldn't be able to continue doing probably but money is a really great motivator and so I would at least give it a shot, I'm trying to think if there's anything I just would not even.  [6:51] Try for money his Hazard pay happens at a certain points like if you're dealing with like crazy creatures or you're dealing with you know there's Hazard and so that would be worth it probably. Anything tall your high wire workers your. Your climb the pole and replace the whatever people none of that I would be able to do because I have tried to force myself to do.  [7:33] Certain things that involved climbing and ladders get too high so that I wouldn't be able to physically do I would I would freeze up and freak out and it wouldn't matter the amount of money now big said septic tank cleaner and with the proper PPE, I think I could do that with the proper PPE me just walking out and trying to do it and I can happen but with the proper personal protective equipment I think I could you get a good respirator and a gas mask and you can do a lot of stuff that around the stinky with the respirators and stuff that you're required to wear while you're doing the actual nasty part of that job I might be able to maybe, I would try at least though the the tall jobs I wouldn't even try.  [8:43] Go do Line work it's not a wolf knows I do have a very sensitive nose that is true. But yeah.  [8:58] The height thing I wouldn't even try I didn't least try I'll try to do something that stinky I won't enjoy it I wear gloves to take the trash out because I don't like touching the can so. You know but we'll figure it out um, so I think that's good for I can manage people I currently manage people again, I know I said oh you're saying you would never manage people because that makes sense that makes sense. That makes sense I could see that I.  [9:43] Yeah I could see that so. I think we're sufficiently warmed up it's odd how quickly I warm up when it's just me because I run out of stuff to warm up about until I get into the notes I need to make notes for warming up which is just what. Weird they might have an ascent they might have.  [10:15] And I have no idea what Biggs is trying to say.  [10:25] Oh oh oh oh okay. Yes manage manage some people trying to manage other people equals someone having an accident yes yes okay.  [10:42] Wow Phoenix I didn't know you spoke Biggs that well but that's good that one of us does. I guess after that many years of dealing with both me and Biggs she's figured out how to read I can't spell. So that's good so now that we're sufficiently warmed up. Go ahead and address this right now because if I don't address it it's going to get set at some point.  [11:14] For the live recording of This podcast it happened on the 17th of July and that day is. The day that many years ago according to my children and the birthday card I got today 80 years ago I was born so it is my birthday and in that, what we're going to be discussing tonight the night the title of tonight's podcast is why Christians should not celebrate birthdays.  [11:50] Let that sink in for a minute because. There are certain sects of quote-unquote religious organizations.  [12:02] That do not do birthdays there are certain groups of people who don't agree with it and so we're going to look at the reasons why that Burt Christians shouldn't, celebrate birthdays and so. We're going to we're going to jump in and and go straight to scripture because obviously this one is one that, we're going to have to try to prove if this is if this is actually the belief we're going to have to prove it scripturally so we're going to start off with the Bible only mentions birthdays, twice overall people celebrating their birthdays the only two people to celebrate their birthdays in Scripture that I could find any references to online or in my own knowledge mainly online because my knowledge fails us quite often. Is we're going to jump over to we're going to start off right off the bat with. Genesis 4020 so in Genesis 4020 we've got.  [13:29] On the third day which was Pharaoh's birthday he gave A Feast for all his servants. He elevated the chief cupbearer and the chief cupbearer among his servants. Fair restored the chief cupbearer to his position as cut bear and he placed the cup in Pharaoh's hand but Pharaoh hanged the chief Baker just as Joseph had explained to them. Yet the cheap cup beggar do not remember Joseph he forgot it so this is in the time of when Joseph was. Prison in captivity during his time in Egypt and during that time. These two people came to him and were like hey you know translate this dream and he did. And then that is where we after that point is where then we hear okay well it's Pharaoh's birthday and since it's Pharaoh's birthday we're going to talk about.  [14:37] This part of you know hey Bears birthday doesn't say much about it just hey it's Pharaoh's birthday the next time is Matthew 14-6 not 147 Matthew 14:6 and Mark 6. 21 so in Matthew.  [15:04] 14:6. When Harold's birthday celebration came, are radiuses daughter danced before them and pleased Herod so we promised with an oath to give her whatever she asked prompted by her mother she answered give me John the Baptist head here on a platter although the king regretted it he commanded that it be granted amongst because of his Oaths and his guests so he sent orders and had John beheaded in prison his head was brought on a platter and given to the girl who carried it to her mother, then the disciples came remove the corpse buried it and went to report to Jesus so that's the account in Matthew and then when we look at mark, 6:21.  [15:59] And the opportune time came when Harold when Herod gave a banquet for his Nobles military commanders in the leading men when Harry this is own daughter came in and danced she pleased Herod and his guests the king said to the girl ask me whatever you want and I'll give it to you he promised her with an oath whatever you ask me I will give you up to half my kingdom she went out asked her mother what should I ask for John the Baptist head she said at once she hurried to the king and said I want you to give me John the Baptist head on a platter, although the King was greatly displeased because of his oath and then we go through the whole the same way it's talked about in Matthew 14 so. We have these two the only two places in scripture where we talk about birthdays. Is a birthday celebration of a.  [17:01] Gentile outside of the Jewish faith as well as someone in leadership as well as someone who did not follow, Jehovah and then on top of that both times someone died some and not just died was straight killed, as big said someone died both times so both times in Scripture that birthdays are talked about, they both ended the story with someone being murdered now that in of itself isn't. Huge but one of the aspects of it is both of those events had. Parties being thrown by people in leadership which typically.  [17:53] Goes back to the Pagan roots of each of the different religions that were being you know the Egyptian Faith the service of their gods and then Herod in the service of his. Both of them would date back to having interesting rituals that would happen during birthday celebrations and so because of that the only two times birthdays are talked about in the scripture is both of them are are very negative. Fort from that standpoint of hey these are celebrations that are going on that end in someone's death and. You know it's not someone who is. In the church in the New Testament or of the Jewish faith in the Old Testament so that being talked about that being said the next thing to kind of look at is.  [18:47] What are. The holidays that are mentioned in the Bible that we should celebrate according to you know.  [19:02] You know here are celebrations to do. The crazy thing is is of course the Bible was written in whole at the time especially the Old Testament to and for Jews and the New Testament by Jews or.  [19:23] Early church. And either to Jews or two early church and Gentiles of that manner and so all of the holidays that are talked about are of course Jewish holidays. Passover the Feast of unleavened bread first fruits Pentecost Trumpets the day of atonement Feast of Tabernacles. Purim the new Moon Festival.  [19:55] So Those are those are the big ones that are talked about. And as big said you know not Christians celebrating those days Jesus fulfilled the Covenant and establish a New Covenant so we don't have to follow those. Feasts although some of them are really cool it to do so in a remembrance of Jesus, God protected the Jews through the line to bring Jesus to then bring us salvation so because of that you know some of those festivals are really cool and it is very interesting to look at the fact that the Jewish calendar is based on the new moon not a son base calendar like we follow currently. Which is also an interesting fact that has nothing to do with why we shouldn't celebrate birthdays.  [20:57] And so that's that's those the.  [21:04] But it never says to not celebrate those it does say that Jesus fulfilled. Then created a New Covenant fulfilled the law and so because of that we don't have to never says we can't. The only commemoration that Christians are required to keep, is if we look at Luke 7.  [21:36] Not seven Luke 22 17 through 20. Which if anyone is familiar and has been for those of you who are established, and has have been going to Modern churches for a long time you of course know this passage because this is the institution of the Lord's supper and so it's, you know when he the hour came he reclined at his table, and the apostles with him he took the cup and after giving thanks he said take this and share it amongst yourselves for I tell you from now on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom come kingdom of God comes he took the bread and gave thanks broke it and said this is my body which is given to you do this in remembrance of me, and the same way he also took the cup.  [22:31] After supper and said this is the cup of the New Covenant of my blood which is poured out for you but look the hand of one betraying me that this table for the son of man will go away as it has been determined but woe to the man who is betraying him and then they start an argument of you know. Who is it which one of us is the greatest and you know typical disciples not getting the point and arguing about other things that they typically do so in that, the only time that we're really told to celebrate something do something in remembrance from a Jesus telling a standpoint of a celebration would be the celebration of, the Lord's Supper which is due in remembrance of the sacrifice that he gave.  [23:24] And that's really the only one that is really talked about as a hey this is what you should be doing in remembrance of the past is. This aspect and, you know so that's something we do in the Lord's Supper the early church would meet much more often all of the early churches, meetings were over meals and they took part in the Lord's sorry all of their meetings were all together and there for a while it was very communal of they all, we're just together all the time but they every time they would eat they would do this ritual of breaking the bread, and giving thanks at the beginning of breaking the bread and then at the end of the the drinking at the end because you know after the meal, etc etc so that is the only time that we really talked about it and in that we're celebrating. The death and then Resurrection not the birth of Christ. And so that's one of those interesting things to look at of okay what are we celebrating why are we celebrating it.  [24:46] And answer those are the the things that are talked about. As specific holidays and specific things that were supposed to talk about so to me as a person. If we look at scripture, just scripture just the way scripture stated no interpretation really no no thought processes holidays are kind of a no real reason to celebrate them birthdays aren't important we should Nellis never celebrate birthdays, now that last one is of course completely satirical and. A personal belief just because I don't like receiving gifts and I don't like birthdays I love celebrating other people's birthdays I don't like celebrating mine so this is the point of the podcast, we're if you didn't realize leading up here since we don't have me and Bill I had to just play Devil's Advocate from the beginning, and now we move on to reality which is.  [25:51] We're not told not to celebrate birthdays they're not listed in scripture but that doesn't mean we can't do it that just means it's not listed in scripture it's not listed in Scripture that we should drink how many ounces of water in a day but if you don't drink a certain number of ounces of water in a day at a certain point, you will die of dehydration not just because it's not talked about in the scripture doesn't mean it's not, acceptable it's interesting to watch people try to say this isn't in scripture and this is so because of that this is all I can do, or I can't do that because it's not talked about I can't do that because it is I can't do that when. We really look at things like Psalm right.  [26:46] You know people are like well we don't celebrate that we don't do this we don't do well Psalms 118 verse 24 which for, again those of you who are steeped in church it's one of those where it's like okay yeah I already know it, we're going to read it anyway because it's important to have reminders and for those that are listening that aren't as steeped in traditional churches, and as we're trying to learn this stuff together Psalms 1 18 verse 24 says this is the day the day the Lord has made let us rejoice and be glad in it. So that right there.  [27:36] You know when we look at that this is the day the Lord has made. And life is not perfect for the person writing this. We have to rejoice and be glad because the Lord made the day so. That route of Rejoice is to it's interesting the proper is to spin around.  [28:17] Which which I find always funny the proper Rejoice is literally to spin around you got it you have to be a certain level of Happy. To do that happy spin thing that we as humans do when we're real happy we're like and we do the spit that's rejoice. Be glad be joyful Rejoice you know things like that under the influence of a violent emotion. So it's not just like yay that's that's not and that's not rejoice your not rejoicing if your only thought is yay unless of course that is the only way you show emotion because some of us are different on the emotional spectrum and if ye is all you can muster, tenge is what you got today some days are just yay days other days are full spinning around in a circle Happy Days, but the key is to Rejoice so if you're supposed to Rejoice every day.  [29:22] What makes a birthday special because now we have to go back to okay do we now, of course yeah cuz you're celebrating, making it another year you're celebrating God allowing you to continue in your purpose one more year because this is not in my notes so I'm I'd have to go find it and if someone wants to find it and put it in chat it'd be great but Paul says you know to live is Christ to die is gain so that living everyday we're living. We're doing it for God so we're supposed to be rejoicing so being able to have a full another year that we are able to be on the earth and affecting and loving others is a reason to celebrate.  [30:13] To die is gain so there is are are those of us that are like oh we made it another year but, we're still told that it's it's a time to Rejoice so we're supposed to despite the social anxiety of not liking your birthday. But so you look at okay well if we have to Rejoice every day you know but I don't, I want to celebrate this I don't want to celebrate that I don't want to is it wrong for me not to celebrate is it wrong for me to celebrate is it wrong for me, any of those types of thought processes or situations you know what is it I'm really trying to find and one of the things we need to think about when we start to look at that and this is a passage that we've looked at before, but it's one of those just fundamental important passages for, modern Christians which is Romans 14 5 and 6.  [31:16] Romans 14:5 and 61 man I switched over that's the full KJV and that's esteemeth one one person judges one day to be more important than another someone else judges every day to be the same Let each one be fully convinced in his own mind whoever observes a day observes it for the honor of the Lord whoever eats eats for the Lord since he gives thanks to God whoever does not eat it is for the Lord and he does not eat it and he gives thanks to the Lord for none of us lives for himself and no one dies for himself if we live we live for the Lord if we die we die for the Lord therefore whether we live or die we belong to the Lord.  [32:02] So do you celebrate birthdays yeah do you not celebrate birthdays. Yeah you do what you feel is right as far as celebrating a day. Now if you are going to go the route of the two examples if you're going to throw a party in sacrifice someone at the end of the party. Probably in the wrong human sacrifices and no no shouldn't be doing that and so because of that if your birthday party ends with you sacrificing one of your friends, probably not a good birthday party because you can't love someone who you've. Removed from the earth so because of that you know. Let's celebrate in a good way that's edifying and you know faith hope and love. But we should celebrate.  [33:06] Because it's what we're told to do we're told to celebrate rejoice, there is a scripture and I'm going to look it up because this is very important and it just came to my mind and I can't remember off the top of my head where it is because I didn't think about this before. Doot doot doot 22 22 22 22 22 22 we got to go we have to go super far from where we are right now we're going to go to Romans 12:15 and this is one that.  [33:51] Pastor Bill uses a lot Pastor Bill this is the reason I thought of it because I could hear him saying it. And this is this is this is in the section that you know some Bibles have that thing at the top the tell you hey this is sections about wow the sections about blah you know things like that, these are marks of the true Christian and one of the things that's talked about in this here in Romans is. One verse bless those who persecute you bless and do not curse, Rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep live in harmony with one another do not be proud instead associate with the humble, do not be wise in your own estimation so I love this area you know 14 to 16 for two reasons one. First off there's a whole lot to unpack in 12 both before and after and it's important to read that in and dig into what we've talked about it a couple times. But.  [35:04] When a family member wants you to go to lunch and celebrate your birthday. You can't. Be a fungal Fogle body I don't I can't a codger. A scrooge that's a good word you can't be a scrooge about it and be like now.  [35:34] Am I perfect in this no first thing I said to my mother today was I hate birthdays you know I hate birthdays but you know what you still show up, you still have fun you rejoice when people want to Rejoice with you and part of birthdays is that, part of all celebrations is not celebrating I, made it another year I am amazing part of it is other people want to celebrate the fact that they get to spend time with you, and so that's part of a party also when there's birthday parties or dinners or family get-togethers things like that we're supposed to rejoice when other people rejoice. There's the satirical side of me that the the dark side of me that's like I don't want to and this is a struggle for me trust me this one this this might seem like a much light-hearted like oh this is, you know we did two light-hearted weeks in a row which is always you know buckle up because it's gonna get nasty but on the same token, this one's hard for me I'm not good at celebrating. Myself when other people are rejoicing I'm not good at doing the same thing like you know if if I'm celebrating my girls or you know my mom. Last weekend you know things like that heck yeah all day let's do it.  [37:02] But like my older daughter multiple times a day was like but it's your birthday so we can do that and I'm like.  [37:13] Fine we'll go to an extra place will do this I'll let you do my nails and try this new matte finish, that you got that then does probably can't see it really well but like this one and this one and this one arm at, instead of gloss because my daughter found these really cool matte coat instead of your normal glossy top coat so I've got like multicolored but it's all One Nail Polish thing going on and. You know it's my birthday she wanted to do my nails cool let's do it you know.  [38:01] And as you know Phoenix was like what in chat like shocked that I don't like celebrating myself which.  [38:12] You know shit a deal with it all day because we took one car she was stuck out with us all day too so. That's all that's what we need to look at you know. You know the title of this podcast was reasons Christians should not celebrate birthdays and you know I said that. Very specifically I didn't say Christians should not, the title is reasons Christian should not there aren't any not really if you want to get real legalistic you can find some you can cherry-pick scriptures, we don't condone that in a very in lifestyle because we should be taking the scripture as a whole and as a whole we're supposed to Rejoice we're supposed to be glad we're supposed to enjoy life enjoy your family hug them love on them you know spread love as always you know. Beat that dead horse all day long because sadly. In the world we live in we all need more faith hope and love and so. Fine for those of you don't like being touched like Phoenix you don't have to hug your friends.  [39:29] But at least love up. Getting a hug from Phoenix's is one of the greatest achievements of ever because it happens so rarely.  [39:40] So yeah that's that's what I've got there aren't reasons this was a satirical because I wanted to write about the fact I don't like birthdays. But to be honest I kind of went into it thinking I would find some stuff, to be honest when I went into this study I thought I'd find some things that were like here are the reasons why you shouldn't celebrate birthdays here are the the times it says something about a pagan this or another god dad or somewhere it's going to say something and then we look at it from a standpoint of. Jesus and that's how we don't anymore and then I'm starting to do studying and I'm like I don't know you know it's got to be somewhere. You know typing this typing that change the search function you know look for a different word in the concordance you know there's got to be something somewhere there because there are people who believe that you shouldn't celebrate your birthday so somewhere has to be, and it's not it's not it's not there. Pick up sorry sorry it's not there.  [40:52] That's all I got for tonight is hey you know love on each other. Rejoice celebrate celebrations and then you know as we say to what the last scripture of the night, cry when other people are crying don't laugh at your father while you're watching Thor love and thunder and he starts crying because the movie has sad parts because it's a Marvel movie and. You know don't laugh at your dad cry with him not that I would ever do that but you know laugh and cry with your friends rejoice. Not getting onto anyone because it was a joke let's be clear that's a joke too. So you know as we talked about with chat the.  [41:45] We record this live every Sunday night at 6:30 and then it goes out on Wednesday nights at 7 p.m. Central Time you can go check us out on EKK.HOUSE and it'll tell you which twitch which YouTube in which Facebook we're live on you can join me maybe this week I'll actually, do some gaming I did one the other day but it wasn't much and so. Yes I am 38 Biggs we are getting there I'm not as old as Pastor Bill Let's make that perfectly clear I might be balder but I am not older.  [42:29] So when we you know we record this every week join us you can be a part of chat ask questions give feedback you know we've got some things. Some situations going my lovely wife just said I'm bald by choice which is partially true I am not. I am bald by choice I am thinning because of actual natural causes so I was tired of seeing the wall behind me, and so through my hair so I shape but join us it's always we try to keep it light-hearted and fun some topics are heavier of course but we're all friends here and we should be uplifting each other and spreading faith hope and love and working towards it from a Brie and lifestyle of studying the scriptures together so join us. And we hope to see you hope to talk to you soon and until next week we love you guys and be safe out there.

Pastor Newms: [0:04] Hello and welcome to episode 49 season. Pastor Bill: [0:15] Season 3 episode 71 of the Berean Manifesto: Faith, Hope, and Love for the Modern Christian. Pastor Newms: [0:20] You should read you should redo that because the hello and welcome was gone for some reason you either did it too loud so your Mike turns you off or or something it just ignored you completely oh. Pastor Bill: [0:31] I didn't do it at all because you did it. Pastor Newms: [0:33] Is now just ruined the intro I don't care what you do. Pastor Bill: [0:39] You'll make it do the intro again since you ruined it we get the one that ruined it. Pastor Newms: [0:45] Live his life y'all see all the bloopers all the bloopers all the Jonathan playing a game on his phone Olive. Pastor Bill: [0:54] I'll Jonathan play on. Pastor Newms: [0:56] No there is no yes doesn't he look so weird Biggs, he caught me off guard. Pastor Bill: [1:08] For those of you out in podcast land yeah I. Pastor Newms: [1:14] That's not no. Pastor Bill: [1:15] My beard to extremeness. Pastor Newms: [1:16] That's not trimming up your beard you shaved your face. Pastor Bill: [1:23] Look it's there. Pastor Newms: [1:35] Actually that's more hair that's on my head right cuz I did not do what I normally do I actually got like the pit bull for headed razor and because we were going somewhere new today and so I was like I got to look decent cuz I can't embarrass the person who invited me because that's rude you know that's just. Pastor Bill: [2:06] Yes because it would be embarrassing if you had hair on top. Pastor Newms: [2:17] My week was very very very busy I spent a whole bunch of time working on the reports at work and getting ready for meetings that are going to happen while I'm out of town on vacation and next week is going to be even busier in preparation for vacation which this is the reason I don't even like taking vacation to be honest like I hate vacations because I have to make sure to work harder before and then harder after the vacation and so it gets to a point where it's like why why just why like I get it mental health and sing to you of stuff and human beings need rest and and all that other crap that drives me nuts but God I hate it so much I just, and Biggs you already know the answer to the question so I don't know why you just didn't answer your wife when she asked this week with St Patty's. Pastor Bill: [3:32] Some this week was St. Patrick's Day. Pastor Newms: [3:33] Um and for St. Patrick's Day every year in the past I used to throw a party and at said party we would watch yeah. Pastor Bill: [3:48] Good old Irish soiree. Pastor Newms: [3:51]  Boondock Saints 1 & 2,    you but you knew you didn't have to act like you're being silly sir and so this year we decided would be the first year that we would include the children in and watching it. Pastor Bill: [4:14] Which wasn't. Pastor Newms: [4:15] It's. Pastor Bill: [4:16] The best. Pastor Newms: [4:17] It wasn't horrible it wasn't horrible. Pastor Bill: [4:18] Wasn't horrible. Pastor Newms: [4:20] There was there was there was one. Pastor Bill: [4:21] It wasn't the best idea. Pastor Newms: [4:22] There's one scene there was one. Pastor Bill: [4:25] There was some crying let's just say that. Pastor Newms: [4:27] That is that is real intense and every year I've seen this movie to the point where I can literally quote it and people that know me that's near impossible because I don't remember anything but I can literally quote these movies and so I've seen it a bunch and I'm sitting there do to do to do to do the thing happens that happens and I jump every time every time and I jumped Tina jumped and Zoe just started right Rayne just Rayne lost her mind and started crying, it's a valid cry. I cry at different parts of the movie but that's fine and so you know, the we threw a full thing we did sugar-free Jell-O that was green we did Green, Sprite we did root beer in the glass bottles that come with cane sugar because we have found that cane sugar is a type of sugar that Sarah can have in moderation, because it's more natural as opposed to the sugars that make her sick so she can have it in moderation, so she was able to enjoy one of those we died chocolate chip cookies green I made a green yellow cake Biggs must have ate all of the cookies that we brought to him. And so this is good time it's just a good time and is the first time the girls had seen the movie and of course I'm a fan because for any of you out there in video land. You know there's a giant poster behind me of the first movie so which I actually got asked about for work because there's one specific doctor that I work with who I was like hey we should be you know since since it's just the two of us let's jump on camera and I'm like okay cool and I jump on camera if he's like okay before we get started this train we just got on the settee before we get started I got to ask you what what's all your accessories behind you and I'm like oh crud now he sees just this this part of the room so it's you do not as much is on camera but it was it was it was humorous I was like ooh. Pastor Bill: [6:53] I feel like these are The Boondock Saints and this is cholo Mander. Pastor Newms: [7:00] Cholo cholo Mander is of course knew from a couple of weeks ago when they decided to put a hat on Charmander and, I'm sorry homeboy looks like a cholo with the hat all the way down I'll just because the way his cheeks are the expression the way is it just it works and so. Pastor Bill: [7:21] But he's like he's like the cholo from Ant-Man when he's like like you know what I mean you know like you know what I mean it's great as happy and you know he's like. Pastor Newms: [7:32] He's freeza freeza friendly but um. Pastor Bill: [7:36] Super friendly. Pastor Newms: [7:40] I didn't realize how much of the settee y'all can see on screen because Amy is just a we just jumped up there and is like hey what's up guys oh you. Pastor Bill: [7:52] Well for one your your screen is. Pastor Newms: [7:54] I am I am. Pastor Bill: [7:56] Cuz you're the little circle square and even on my you know bigger version here I can barely see just a little. Pastor Newms: [8:03] It's just funny because I'm like she doing over there but but yeah it's actually time to change my behind me again because it's your its boring me what's behind me I'll do it when I get home from my spring break but anyway that's a my week went it was busy how was your week. Pastor Bill: [8:32] So my week it was the Gerg spring break this week so he didn't have school and so I wasn't having to get up every morning at the butt crack of day to take him to school which was awesome and I picked up a new contract this week we're going to call it short-term it'll probably end up being about six months, not you know full-time six. Full time for a week or two maybe maybe a full time for a month and then it will taper off at some point you know and just be here there. Contract to contract man money is money, it's good to be making money again so there's that so that's good and then one day this week I woke up and I got a text from my aunt, okay so my grandmother aunt live across the street and then my uncle next door to them and the three houses we all share one water well, and I live in the oldest of the three homes and it's a mobile home and it's got all the original Plumbing so from time to time we have busted pipes and I have to go out and turn off our water because then they had they don't have water, and she text and said do you have water and I was like, I'm going to wake enough for this so when I looked and indeed there was no busted pipes and went to investigate what was going on couldn't figure it out, turned out it was something to do with the electricity the electricity company came out and started working on one of the poles in their yard and when they were done the water was back on and everything was fine again and, his Okay cool so that was certainly interesting, moment there when that, yeah that was basically my week in a nutshell I got a what's called a power pass in one of the games were playing in Lost Ark, which allowed me to level a new character up to level 50 and gave me some armor to start. Honing to make it more powerful which is cool it's a cool thing I've sort of enjoying that process, and I'm I like the play style I think of this character more than the other so that'll be good. Pastor Newms: [10:56] I know you like it and that's fine I just hate it. Pastor Bill: [10:56] You're making a face so no I don't care I like it so I like it I like it I'm gonna be a gun Lancer instead of a gunslinger 7 Deadeye guns I'm going to be a gun Lancer. Pastor Newms: [11:08] I don't like it. Pastor Bill: [11:13] Alright so that was our weeks so now it's time for getting it another pastors which Pastor newms has commandeered the last two weeks in a row and I was asking him do you have a question today and he was like I don't know what you're talking about so am I pulling the car and we're going back to cards or do you have something you're going to. Pastor Newms: [11:32] So here's the thing if I did have something I would wait till you pulled the car just for the sheer funniness of waiting till you pull the card but I. Don't have a question this week so. Pastor Bill: [11:56] What will people look back at us 50 years from now and be sure. Pastor Newms: [12:00] I think it's the are. Pastor Bill: [12:02] By one word Kardashians. Pastor Newms: [12:04] No now that won't be the worst there's worse things nope there's much. Pastor Bill: [12:10] Jersey Shore. Pastor Newms: [12:11] See previous statement I think they'll look back and just not understand, just us, like we look back at 50 years ago and we're appalled by things that people had that did, like maybe not 50 yeah 50 WWII right we look back and we are appalled by what why did everyone. Pastor Bill: [12:47] That's a significantly more than 50 years but. Pastor Newms: [12:50] We have no time concept you know that. Pastor Bill: [12:56] So if we look back at 1972 that's 50 years ago. Pastor Newms: [13:05] Ooh that's so creepy no we're not that old that's not how time works so we look back 80 years you know we're appalled by what Hitler did you know. Pastor Bill: [13:21] But the question is 50 years when we look back in. Pastor Newms: [13:24] That's a 50 years I didn't hear that part of the question 1972. Pastor Bill: [13:29] 50 years, in 50 years they'll look back at us and be appalled by what. Pastor Newms: [13:34] Where are we going to be in 50 years. Pastor Bill: [13:37] So when I look back at 72 I'm appalled by the Bell Bottom. Pastor Newms: [13:40] Yeah the clothing was terrible that came back around and then left. Pastor Bill: [13:46] The hairstyle. Pastor Newms: [13:47] Her back right now which is just terrible Tina, somebody that I'm related to went to a school the other day and and came home and was like mullets are back, and I'm like no no we're in the Deep South and bullets aren't even back here there's no way mullets are okay again and she's like no no no, I saw a kid with a mullet. Pastor Bill: [14:13] They're back. Pastor Newms: [14:14] And I was like knows 80 there's no way kids are running around with mullets and then we got into an argument, and in this I will say wasn't argument on whether or not the Mexican gentleman in Boondock Saints 2 has a mullet, I'm which I was trying to explain he does not he has a modified rat tail, which is a standard haircut not a mullet cuz it's too long to be a mullet a mullet has to be shorter, that's a whole nother haircut but, um you know y'all out here arguing with your wives about important stuff we out here arguing on whether or not characters have mullets let's we ain't the same let's just be clear you have any pets, we need to say. Pastor Bill: [15:15] We ain't the same now if you use napkins from restaurants in your car as Kleenex to blow your nose then yes we're in the same tax bracket but other than that. Pastor Newms: [15:28] Homie we are not in the same tax bracket where several brackets away from each other and I still do that so that's not that. There's a carpet behind you. Pastor Bill: [15:55] And the the church body. Pastor Newms: [15:57] Yeah that makes it better I said nothing. Pastor Bill: [16:01] You said you and I were several tax brackets separated and I'm obviously not a millionaire. So I'm down as I'd have to be below you not above you. Pastor Newms: [16:13] Actually I guess we're not several worldly I actually don't know how many tax brackets we are several is probably incorrect though. Pastor Bill: [16:21] Man I'm in the- tax. Pastor Newms: [16:26] No you're still in a tax bracket you just don't pay taxes there's a difference you are in a tax bracket. Pastor Bill: [16:33] I pay - I pay - When it lists your tax rate on your tax return my number is always negative. Mine's like poverty - 200% or something like. Pastor Newms: [17:01] No we're not several we're there's one tax bracket between us, just one so now we're good I was wrong that was rude of me. Well I guess this chart over here says, this chart over here says there's two brackets between us. So I don't know now I don't know either yeah now I don't know. Pastor Bill: [17:50] Tax package do junior to do. Pastor Newms: [17:57] Okay there's two tax brackets between us according to the 20 I was looking at old data if I'm looking at 2021 taxes there are two brackets between us. Pastor Bill: [18:10] Yes there are two breath. Pastor Newms: [18:11] Well no because technically you because of your income you were in a hot you weren't in the lowest bracket, but then you. Pastor Bill: [18:24] At your at your business expenses I was. Somebody give us a shotgun so we can get rid of these rabbits, no yeah that is a kind of that we're going to be on because the Epic that the title of tonight's episode is casting lots and hanging thoughts, so that's. Pastor Newms: [19:01] To be clear that's that's thoughts not thoughts just so we're all clear. Pastor Bill: [19:06] That starts not thoughts yeah so tonight we're talking about casting lots and we're talking about hanging thoughts, and the casting lots part that's more going to be Pastor Newms this thing because his brains been on this lately and then it kind of fell onto it in my study this week and went oh okay well here it is this is this is. Pastor Newms: [19:29] It has been I do obsess about things sometimes and it has recently been Lots. Pastor Bill: [19:36] Um and so do you want to go first so you want me to go first I'm going to talk about hanging thoughts and your talk about casting lots. Pastor Newms: [19:43] Weeks ago like just like. Pastor Bill: [19:47] I guess okay. Pastor Newms: [19:51] The argument we had was. Pastor Bill: [19:52] It's so weird, okay so we're still in Acts and the section of Acts that we're pulling out of this week, and Biggs brings up on Twitch that they cast lots a lot in the Bible and yes they do and if we honestly if we cast lots today as much as they did in the Bible and in the ways it in the Bible we would probably be accused of Witchcraft by the modern Church, but it's a legitimate way to hear from God on you know what you doing people just don't utilize it anymore because gas Magic, so weird. Pastor Newms: [20:35] No we're doing yours first we talked about this so stop I almost I'm aware I'm aware. Pastor Bill: [20:42] You mean your dad brought it up. Pastor Newms: [20:45] And I almost went into it and then went whoop. Pastor Bill: [20:49] Yeah you want to go right into it all right so we're pulled from Acts chapter 1 verses 15 through and that says in those days Peter stood up among the brothers and sisters the number of people who were together was about 120 and said brothers and sisters it was necessary that the scripture would be fulfilled that the holy spirit that the mouth of David foretold about Judas who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus for he was one of our number and shared in this ministry, now this man acquired a field with his unrighteous wages he fell head first his body burst open in his intestines Spilled Out, this became known to all the residents of Jerusalem so that in their own language that field is called Hakeldama with that is filled of blood, for it is written in the Book of Psalms and this is actually, um Peters actually pulling two different places from The Book of Psalms and marrying them together for this little segment where he's quoting The Book of Psalms. Let the his dwelling become desolate let no one live in it and let someone else take his position therefore from among the men who have accompanied US during the whole time the Lord Jesus went in and out Among Us, beginning from the baptism of John until the day he was taken up from us from among these it is necessary that one become a witness with us of his resurrection, so the proposed to Joseph called Barsabbas, and who was also known as Justus and Matthias, when they prayed you'll or know everyone's Hearts show which of these two you have chosen to take the place, in this episode of ministry that Judas left to go where he belongs, then they cast lots for them and the lot fell to Matthias and he was added to the eleven Apostles he became the 12th Apostle taking judas's place, so in this hanging thoughts the, event that we're looking at with Judas it's we turn to Matthew, flipping back and forth in My Vibe ill Matthew 26. And we're going to read a few different excerpts from Matthew 26 just to get an idea of what's going on with Judas here, I will show you verse 14 then one of the twelve the man called Judas Iscariot went to the chief priests and said what are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you him being you know Jesus because, so they weighed out 30 pieces of silver for him, and from that time he started looking for a good opportunity to betray him and then we're going to jump over to chapter 27, verse 5. Pastor Newms: [24:04] Four three. Pastor Bill: [24:07] Four three then we're starting three, then Judas his betrayer saying that Jesus had been condemned was full of remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and Elders I have sinned by betraying innocent blood he said, what's that to us they said see to it yourself so he threw the silver into the temple and departed then he went and hanged himself, hanged him self okay, and then verses 7 through 8 they the chief priests we don't have to skip first skip first six we can read that one to the chief priests took the silver and said it is not permitted to put it into the temple treasury since it is blood Money, they conferred together and bought the Potter's field with it as a burial place for foreigners there for that field has been called blood-filled to this day. So this is actually one of those things where people go well see there's an inconsistency there see Matthew says hanged and in Acts it says his body burst open in his intestines Spilled Out, this idea of hanged that they're talking about in Matthew isn't the same kind of hang like lynching that, in our modern on mind we think of hanging someone from a tree with a rope that's not what Judas did to himself, hanging yourself then in this context is to take a sword that has a handle, guard you know and you put the butt of the sword onto the ground and you fall forward onto it and then your, midsection is caught on that handle guard and you're literally hanging their over top of the ground, hanging over the sort and so this is this idea of hanging that Judas did to himself he actually threw himself onto his own sword and then hung there on the. Handle guard until, his body burst open in his intestines Spilled Out and the field was bought with the 30 pieces of silver, the 30 pieces of silver that originated from the same priests that refused to take it back because now it's blood Money. Pastor Newms: [26:46] The dates spent. Pastor Bill: [26:50] They created by hiring an assassin of sorts. Pastor Newms: [26:57] God love people who dance that line. Pastor Bill: [27:03] That's yeah that's some serious like swervin right there like how do we make ourselves look good here oh I know we'll use this money and we'll buy the field where he just went killed himself, and we'll buy it in his name because it's his blood money and then we'll make it a place to bury foreigners and the poor. Pastor Newms: [27:29] Because then we didn't do anything wrong. Pastor Bill: [27:31] Nice classy yeah cuz then we we did it right we didn't put that money back into the coffers we did the right thing, it's just those kind of details you know when you go into conversations and you're talking to people and then they bring up things like, there's this contradiction between Matthew and acts did you can you know well actually if you did a modicum of research you would find that, you're wrong and that those aren't that's not a contradiction that's actually the same thing, in the cultural context right we always talk about you know when you're shutting the Bible you want to look at what the cultural context is because if you take it, and you take that scripture according to your cultural context then you've taken it out of, it's no longer in contact. Pastor Newms: [28:36] And there are times where with the context of the Bible we you can't even just trust, oh well Strong's Concordance says this this says this that means that which, the diction does the connotations do not and that's where those connotations that come from, culture and colloquialisms and in all that you know we deal with it every day we have so many words that don't we use incorrectly away from their diction or their diction has changed, because of that so I mean yeah. Those aren't those are definitely some and and you know there's there's a lot, there's a lot that has been stated and done around his death, you know a lot of things said a lot of things thought through that and it's very interesting Sometimes some of those beliefs that arose from it. Pastor Bill: [30:00] And you bring up the shrunken coordinates thing because the Strong's Concordance literally says that word means to strangle one. Pastor Newms: [30:10] Look to strangle. Pastor Bill: [30:12] Culturally that's not what they were referring to when they said. Pastor Newms: [30:18] You know and it's one of those where it's an understanding of you know the culture more than understanding of the language there's you know. Pastor Bill: [30:30] Because we use we use words that mean other things all the time and if you didn't know our culture you'd be confused. Pastor Newms: [30:41] I mean we're not we're amazing at it in Christianity as well you know we use words that mean something to us means something completely different, and that's always something we have to think about and look at when we're studying and when we're you know just living because oftentimes how you feel a word, means does not how someone else fuse it and regular words can become offensive easily due to those types of things. Pastor Bill: [31:11] Well even naughty just offensive but even simple words like we had this conversation before about what's the difference between the soul and the spirit, and it honestly depends on who you ask, because people use those words interchangeably to literally mean two different things and they just use them interchangeably oh also bi-weekly and by. Pastor Newms: [31:34] Don't get me started on that one. Pastor Bill: [31:36] Bi-weekly not only means, every other week but it also means. Pastor Newms: [31:41] Are we talking about accounting we talking about meetings are we talking about payroll or we talking about because for all of those situations it could mean something different or the exact thing you think of. Pastor Bill: [31:55] Biannually okay is that twice a year is that once every two years, depends on context. Pastor Newms: [32:05] I hate that one that one irritates me bi-weekly especially. Pastor Bill: [32:09] It's crazy all right well yeah but weekly. Pastor Newms: [32:12] We need to meet on this bye week. Pastor Bill: [32:14] Can you just say every other week when you mean every other week. Pastor Newms: [32:16] Need to meet on this bi-weekly am i setting up a Tuesday Thursday or am I setting up a Wednesday Wednesday. Pastor Bill: [32:27] Hmm. Pastor Newms: [32:28] That one that one always gets me and you got to clarify. Pastor Bill: [32:32] So one of the things that I had decided at one point to start doing instead of saying bi-weekly when I meant every other week I would start saying fortnightly. Because a fortnight means two weeks. Pastor Newms: [32:48] For fortnite was technically 20 days. Pastor Bill: [32:55] Isn't it just, I thought it was too easy weeks how long is a fortnight. Pastor Newms: [33:08] It's a period of two weeks. Pastor Bill: [33:20] That's in Tokay. Pastor Newms: [33:21] Actually it can be 14 or 15 days. Pastor Bill: [33:26] There are 336 hours in a fortnight. Why did you give it to me in that and there are 26 .08 929 fortnight's in a year, Google no DuckDuckGo is is trying to prank me or something just tell me. Three hundred thirty six hours or twenty six point zero eight nine to nine times in a year. Pastor Newms: [34:00] Originally meant 14 nights for. Pastor Bill: [34:09] So we should meet for tonight. Pastor Newms: [34:11] Is that 14 nights which could be 15 days that's where that that's where the question of 14 nights. Pastor Bill: [34:18] Will you mean on one you mean it on one day and then you have 14 nights between those and then you meet again that's the 15th day. Pastor Newms: [34:27] It's not 14 days. Pastor Bill: [34:29] So well well it's what made it okay whatever. Pastor Newms: [34:33] If we meet on Monday and then we meet the next Fortnight the next time we meet is a Tuesday. Pastor Bill: [34:38] Right and then the next time it'll be Wednesday in the next time it'll be a Thursday next time it'll be a Friday. Pastor Newms: [34:43] And then once it's a Friday then we can't have the business meeting until Monday which means it's no longer a fortnight and you've ruined it completely see I don't I don't like see I don't like that one either no. For normal people they're not saying Fortnight I love you but normal people aren't saying Fortnight unless they're doing a dumb dance. Pastor Bill: [35:05] Are using these these ambiguous things that nobody knows what they mean and they're having to clarify. Pastor Newms: [35:13] I love our arguments. Pastor Bill: [35:14] Okay I'm done with my section which I thought would take longer but that's okay you have the floor for the next 20 minutes so. Pastor Newms: [35:22] I'm not going to take it I don't accept. Pastor Bill: [35:25] It's time we're going to talk about casting lunch. Pastor Newms: [35:29] So you know there's the converse you know we touched on it several weeks ago just casting lots you know what is it what does it mean, you know there are people that cast lots very very often in life there are some people who cast lots so often in life they keep Lots on their desk, to be cast at any moment, so that way they don't have to search for them to cast them and go so far as to cast ones that look, like they're made of bone when they're not which is possibly, getting real close to that line of what you're casting. Pastor Bill: [36:26] Reading bones and reading tea leaves is not casting lots. Pastor Newms: [36:31] No Pastor Bill: [36:32] You've gone but you've gone past. Pastor Newms: [36:34] You've gone past casting lots and you've entered something else. Pastor Bill: [36:37] You're you've gotten past asking for an answer and into prognostication. Pastor Newms: [36:45] Flip of a coin yes that that is well is a form it was normally done with dice or dice type things they weren't the dice that we use, commonly normally they were more like the dice that are used in episode 1 of Star Wars, the ones that only certain sides are colored the colored dye they weren't numbers all the time they were you know, it depended depending on the situations it depended on. Pastor Bill: [37:22] Well in in Gideon's time they cast lots with them fleece that go out first thing in the morning after Morning Dew had fallen on the you know where was on the ground and and they would, throw out fleece on the ground and whichever fleece came up dry that was the right answer. Pastor Newms: [37:42] Yeah we've evolved polyhedrons to polyhedral, dice made of polyurethane typically hit. Pastor Bill: [38:00] In Aaron's day they drew Lumen and Thurman from a bag which is basically just you draw a rock and if it's a White Rock dancers yes if you draw a black rock fanswers know. Pastor Newms: [38:12] And some dice were painted some are not numeric, some dice are you know and you would change the probability of things by tossing a six-sided die that was usually hand-carved which means the sides were not accurately, mathematically correct and then one side was painted and not all of them had no you know it all depended on how it was done but the idea of casting lots is, asking God to help you make the decision or asking God to make the decision through the Lots. Pastor Bill: [38:53] But not not only Christians cast lat. Pastor Newms: [38:55] No Pastor Bill: [38:56] The soldiers cast lots for who would get what pieces of Jesus close. Pastor Newms: [39:02] And those ones were probably more an actual dice game and that is that that is one of the reasons why, I've heard preached why casting lots is bad because obviously it's bad because the Romans did it and you're like. Pastor Bill: [39:20] And then the at and then and then the apostles literally do it to choose who replaced you. Pastor Newms: [39:24] Weeks later but okay yeah sure but I mean it's it's part of also your intention you know are you trying. Pastor Bill: [39:34] Well everything boils down to intention. Pastor Newms: [39:35] Everything are you trying you know one of the things that you see with people is oh well Even's will do this odds will do that and when it rolls and you don't get what you want you go bust out of two out of three and it's like. Pastor Bill: [39:50] See now you're tempting. Pastor Newms: [39:52] And and let's be honest I've done it and there's been times one time I did it and the next role was three ones and it's one of those where it's like. If you don't do things like that often you're like so in games in dice things ones are your worst typical role and so 31 statistically, it's a decently hard roll, because you have to take the statistical likelihood of each of the dice rolling in the numbers and numerically you know 33 of any let's be honest three of any single number is a lot harder to roll than a combination number and so it's one of those where you're like oh no blah and yeah people who play Yahtzee know how hard it is to get, you know one role in picking up you know all six or three or four and you're just like sorry, I'll go to bed you're right but we sometimes do it for simple things like, which video game do we really want to play tonight if we if we can't decide we don't care and we're like what do you want to do you want to do you want to hang out you want to watch TV you want to play a game you want to you know stare at each other and not actually like each other you know what you want to do tonight sometimes you can't decide, and you know in those times. Pastor Bill: [41:28] Put on matching shirts and pop popcorn I made popcorn and. Pastor Newms: [41:31] We're grown men we don't wear matching shirts. Pastor Bill: [41:36] Not after you see that I am wearing the same shirt as you want now. Pastor Newms: [41:39] Right that's why I change shirts so for those out there that are like what is he talking about I wore my friends of Garrett and he were his friend of Garrett shirt tonight both of us. Pastor Bill: [41:53] And then and then we connected on camera and went wow look at that the Lots fell to the same shirt and he went no no no I ain't even. Pastor Newms: [41:58] I didn't I didn't notice I didn't notice, you were the one who was a good look we're wearing the same shirt and I'm like not with that attitude we ain't no now we can, wear the same shirt but once you start making a thing out of it ain't happening I'm gonna go change shirts and so I did I change I didn't even just change shirts I change genres but this was the closest shirt between me and the bedroom closet actually I didn't even get all the way to the closet this was just, I actually took this out of my office like an hour ago so I was like I'll just. Pastor Bill: [42:32] All right so you were talking about random number. Pastor Newms: [42:36] Yeah so there was a question that there's a question that I posed to a friend of mine around casting lots as we were doing a study on, what when casting lots came up, I don't even remember but casting lots came up in a Biblical study we were doing in our family bible study and so I was talking to our, my cousin's husband because he's gamer and I was like you know it makes you wonder if so it was the fact that the verse that God decides all, rolls you know God decides fate and stuff like that. Pastor Bill: [43:17] Well versus the. Pastor Newms: [43:18] We talked about it last time I don't remember did you pull it up because you knew we were going to talk about. Pastor Bill: [43:38] That's what I was about to say a lot is cast into the lap but it's every decision is from the Lord. Pastor Newms: [43:44] So it's an and the meaning of that is basically you know yeah we cast lots every time you cast lots in your lap you cast lots in the street you cast lots. Pastor Bill: [43:57] Heck even buying a lottery ticket and scratching it off is casting a lot. Pastor Newms: [44:01] Yeah and so we had this discussion of and and you said something that that almost borderline offended me when you said it around this which is you know, I was like well you know random number generators there's this joke in the community in all gaming communities of you need to pray to RNGsus and that spelled r and g, Bes us and it's because orangey is a random number generator and that is how video games decide loot rolls is random number generators and so and that's how dice, kind of work is I remember random number generator computer form of random number generation is its version of throwing a die the problem with orangey is, there is no such thing as random number generation because when you start dealing with technology, there is not as much. Atmospheric things that can affect there's not wind there's not surface tension there's not it's just, go pick a number between one and whatever and the computer goes and does it anyone who's used the random feature on their smart device or their old CD player knows, it's not truly random there is a pattern granted there's a pattern to dice rolls if you look at it enough, but the numbers are just smaller so. It's interesting to look at random number generation is random number generation the same as a lot and if that's the case every time you get upset because you don't get loose, is that something, that we shouldn't get any form of upset because God controls when and when not you're going to get loot it's a very interesting thought process because it doesn't it's not the same, but it's one of those things for a gamer you're like is it and and so you get into it and then you said something that, offended me to a small degree which was when we were when we were arguing about this on whether it was or wasn't you said my relationship with God has nothing to do with a random number generator, the outcome of a random number generator and I'm like that's my point it's not your relationship it's, the random number generator is it or is it not a lot and and that's you know it's an interesting thought process of, is it and the. Pastor Bill: [47:01] I also said the random number generators are created for you to overcome, by Rolling again to try to get that piece that you're looking for do the challenge again do the challenge again do the challenge again that's what RNG is all about is re-rolling until you get that piece of armor you get that, that you're trying to get. Pastor Newms: [47:23] I think that depends on the gameplay and if they're actually using a random number generator because a lot of times we argue that random number generators are you know we blame RNG, four things in video games that have nothing to do with orangey if the programmer programs one thing to be, available one percent of the time and one thing to be available 48 percent of the time that's not a random number eight generators fault, except for the fact of it is because the random number generator is choosing a number between 1 and 100, so whereas they're deciding the statistical probability, of you getting the item the number that it chooses is still part of an orangey. Pastor Bill: [48:11] Right because they are injeel chik-chik will choose a number between 1 and 100 but if they say this drop has a 48 percent chance it just changes the value of how often each number between 1 and 100 is chosen. Pastor Newms: [48:24] No no it would be what you would do. Pastor Bill: [48:28] And on some of those numbers you'd get it and some of those numbers you would. Pastor Newms: [48:30] Right you assigned each number with the loot is or a percentage chance and then it depends on the percentage really depends on how the game is coded but it's interesting to think about a thought experiment like this because this is purely a thought experiment which of course has nothing to do with salvation, but, it's an interesting thought experiment of what is random when you get to a point of saying something like God chooses every lat, so God chooses how every role is done so because of that, what does that truly mean for people who are like oh it's just a coincidence because it's like mmm.  Pastor Bill: [49:14] So let's read it again Proverbs 16 33 the lot is cast into the lap but it's every decision is from the Lord, so flipping a coin the decision the outcome of that decision that that's from the Lord, now if you flip a coin and it goes heads and then you go okay best try to three and you flip a coin again and then it says Tails I'm pretty sure God just doesn't doesn't care about your question God's like it doesn't matter, he just asked me whether you should drink Coke or Sprite for all I care. Pastor Newms: [49:51] Yeah and that's not saying that. Who said that. Pastor Bill: [50:02] Proverbs 16 was probably written by David. Pastor Newms: [50:03] Proverbs and let's look. Pastor Bill: [50:09] Yeah Roxanne on Facebook asks okay but who said that and she's not wrong we talked about that. Pastor Newms: [50:21] Yeah it's a valid question. Pastor Bill: [50:23] You know there's things in the Book of Job that you're like yeah that's that's not actual truth that's his friends error. Pastor Newms: [50:36] Sixteen. It's Solomon and tilt from 10 1222 is straight-up Proverbs of Solomon. Pastor Bill: [51:06] Not only was Solomon the wisest man that ever lived but when Solomon became king, he gave away all of his father's wealth because let's be honest David stole everything, um gave it all back to Who David stole it from and then within I think it was a decade, he had amassed 10 times the amount of wealth that David had because he was wise he had business acumen, he understood how the world worked and she follows up and asks and was he correct when he said it so let's ask that's let's look at some commentaries and see what they say, um Pastor Newms: [51:54] SS says to go to. 16:30. 16:1 the reflections of the heart belong to mankind but the answers the tongue is from the Lord, 19:21 I'm looking at where everywhere that this Bible points to, being a poor person who has integrity, better is a poor person who does integrity than someone who has deceitful lips that's interesting that it would point there because that could definitely argue of, you know don't lie about what I say don't lie about your role you D&D player's cheaters. Pastor Bill: [52:47] In first Samuel chapter 14 they they cast lots with the Airmen and Thurman, to determine who was guilty, in an event that had just happened and we as the reader have Insight on who's actually guilty but they don't know, and the ermine and thummim accurately expose Jonathan Saul's son as the person who was the wrongdoer. Pastor Newms: [53:17] As someone who doesn't believe in chance, I would definitely agree that in my study and everything I've learned and and studied and believe, there is no chance and so yeah I believe that God does control Lots. Pastor Bill: [53:44] The question is, how for me because God sets up systems God doesn't necessarily micromanage the Lots he sets up systems and hands off you know he delegates, um so, that's where to me luck comes in luck being an actual entity and actual being a spiritual being that, moves in Ebbs and flows and interacts with our lives and has very much to do with woodlot lots are cast and dice your throne and things like that. Roxy laughs and how does using the lord's name in vain correlate throwing Lots so using the names Lord in vain that we're using the lord's name in vain is actually a reference to saying God told me to do this or God did that when, it was actually just you and it wasn't God or God didn't do it and it was just something that happened, um it's don't falsely say God is responsible for something when God had nothing to do with it. When is it random and when is it inspired, according to Proverbs I know you questioned you know was he correct when he said it but according to that verse it's always inspired casting lots is always inspired and it's always random random to our view. Pastor Newms: [55:32] And I think that's the key there is is the Providence of God you know we the family bible study and other things I've been doing recently has led me to Esther, a bunch and, it's interesting for a book that God's name is not used once his, handprint is everywhere you know huh. Pastor Bill: [56:05] That's what the word providence means. Pastor Newms: [56:06] Yes what's up yeah and so that whole thing of you know a butterfly flaps its wings over here and it can cause a tsunami doesn't always, can because of cause and effect and so there are times where I think that that's the big thing of there is no random in my opinion, it appears random two are human forms in going through linear time. But that's my personal belief. Pastor Bill: [56:42] The Israelites cast lots to see what tribe would get what plots of land under Joshua when they got to the promised land. In the Book of Jonah they cast lots to find out who it was in the ship that was causing the wrath of God to bring the storm upon the ship. And it fell upon Jonah the Jonah was like you caught me but don't fear not I will selflessly cast myself into the sea and this dude was ready to cast himself in the seeing die rather than go to Nineveh. Pastor Newms: [57:35] He was a very stubborn man. Pastor Bill: [57:39] I'd rather die and God. Pastor Newms: [57:41] Then bring Salvation. Pastor Bill: [57:45] Salvation to those fish worshippers. Pastor Newms: [57:47] People I don't like. Pastor Bill: [57:50] Not only that but then, God hasn't swallowed by a big fish and spit up on the beach by a big fish where all the people can see it and go hey you know that fish God we worship well his son's here, um and he says he has a message from the Lord, let's listen because God has a sense of humor. Pastor Newms: [58:17] Yeah. Pastor Bill: [58:21] All right it's 7:33 so we're a little over our normal time this podcast comes out every Wednesday night, at 7 p.m. Central Standard Time wherever you get your podcasts if you listen to this and you like it, could you please like it you know actually officially like it and share it and follow us helps new people find the podcast and therefore spread faith hope and love to more of, the modern Church, would you record this podcast to live on Sunday nights at 6:30 p.m. Central Standard Time and this next episode we're going to record will be little different we will record it live but we will be actively live in the chat when it is actually going out, and that is because we will actually be, in the same place next weekend when we record it instead of me being in Texas and Pastor Newms being in Tennessee, after next week if you would join us at 6:30 p.m. Central Standard Time, or rather I central daylight I guess it's daylight savings time. Pastor Newms: [59:41] No it would just be Central at that time we would no longer have to say Central DST for the times that we are in daylight savings time it would just be Central again. Pastor Bill: [59:53] Yeah okay they could have chosen the fall time which was the original time. Pastor Newms: [1:00:00] That's the thing that weirds me out is why they didn't go that route because that is messing with Arizona Arizona is now yeah anyway I was talking to Arizona some people from Arizona about it. Pastor Bill: [1:00:14] Well yeah your wife's from Arizona so yeah oh really. Pastor Bill: [0:00] Hello and welcome to season 3 episode 68 of the Berean Manifesto; Faith, Hope, and Love for the modern Christian and Pastor Bill and I'm joined by Pastor Newms I'm here in Texas where if the weather was a person I would recommend rehab, and Newms is in Tennessee where the weather hasn't been quite that bad except the other day they had flurries and flooding, all at the same time which is an interesting combination to have flurries and flooding why are you crossing your arms patent. Pastor Newms: [0:37] So I was playing with a slinky. Pastor Bill: [0:41] Playing with a slinky? Pastor Newms: [0:43] Slinky but not the desk. Pastor Bill: [0:46] Should they come and take your Slinky away became you took my stinky weather. Pastor Newms: [0:48] They came and took my Slinky away well it wasn't my Slinky it's so easily. Pastor Bill: [0:51] They took it away cuz it wasn't yours. Pastor Newms: [0:54] It's not mine it's Rayne's Slinky so. Pastor Bill: [0:56] Makes sense she took it man. Pastor Newms: [0:58] That's why I leaned out of camera because I was like what do you need as I'm doing this it's she's like that. Pastor Bill: [1:03] Did you, they know your live though right? Like she knows your live? Pastor Newms: [1:08] Yes you can hear me she can hear me right now they're all in the living room. Pastor Bill: [1:11] She's like I don't care. Pastor Newms: [1:11] Because Phoenix, Zaydiee, Groggy, Rayne, and Serafina are all in the living room so. Pastor Bill: [1:19] Yeah and you guys had a birthday this weekend. Pastor Newms: [1:23] Yes it was Phoenix's birthday. Pastor Bill: [1:25] Straight up. Pastor Newms: [1:28] And we had birthday lunch at my mother's today. Pastor Bill: [1:32] Makes her what, 32 now? Pastor Newms: She is… Pastor Bill: Na don't do that just agree with 32, Pastor Newms: But it isn't right. Pastor Bill: but we don't age women that's impolite. You're a southern boy you know better, Pastor Newms: But you aged her Pastor Bill: I aged her as 32 or above, everyone in the South knows if you say someone's 32 that you're just being polite, man. Pastor Newms: [2:07] She's in her early 30's. Pastor Bill: [2:09] Crash in early 30s okay. Pastor Newms: [2:12] 32 is still aging. Pastor Bill: [2:14] Why when you say 30, she has responded on the Discord she has no issue being 33 so forever we will call her 33. Pastor Newms: [2:26] Zaydiee is. Pastor Bill: [2:28] Now my mother's email address is im36rever and so she's like I'm 36 I'm 36 and I. Pastor Newms: [2:41] Zaydiee has instructed the girls to lie, and tell everyone she's 27 and you know that that is a valid age but now it looks like I'm married to someone younger than my little sister. Pastor Bill: [3:05] When I was 36 people would ask, “What age you going to be?” I would tell them the next year I was going to be 35, and they're like wait that's backwards and I was like yeah and then the year after that I'll be 34 and then I'll be 33 and I'll be 32 and that plan seemed to be great until as soon as I started saying that, that's when all the gray hair started coming, like as soon as those were no certain those words left my mouth that I was going to start counting it, all this other stuff here on the side started turning gray my surrogate all the gray in my beard and they just kept getting more and more gray. Pastor Newms: [3:46] Rain says yeah and I'm 15 Pastor Bill: I saw that Pastor Newms: that's not true Pastor Bill: in my mind Rayne will always be 12. Pastor Newms: [3:59] That's how old she actually is, she's not a teenager. Pastor Bill: [4:09] Biggs is having video issues over on Twitch. Pastor Newms: [4:17] There the video is definitely there because I have not heard from the living room that it has cut out so you might want to. Pastor Bill: [4:24] Hit refresh or something. Pastor Newms: [4:25] Reef you might want to refresh the TV or you might want to call the cable company and get them to fix your Internet. Pastor Bill: [4:32] Internet ask them why Twitch isn't working. Pastor Newms: [4:35] No it's it's their internet is is is is is sometimes just slow. Pastor Bill: [4:44] Where did I even put the Twitch app on my phone? do you know? Pastor Newms: [4:47] I don't know where your Twitch app is huh. Pastor Bill: [4:49] I don't either I better turn in some weird folder that doesn't make any sense for it to be in. Pastor Newms: [4:54] Probably it probably is it's probably upside down. Pastor Bill: [4:57] I have to search for it because I don't remember where I put it. Pastor Newms: [5:00] But my week was pretty good. Pastor Bill: [5:01] I didn't ask I know how was your week Pastor Newms. Pastor Newms: [5:06] Lots of work, a lot going on at work, can we have a migration for one of our markets from one Mr to another which means all the backend data has to be moved which the backend data is, where I, work and so that's going to happen over Friday night all day Saturday and Sunday morning so we're going to see how that goes, and that might, depend on how I am emotionally stable next Sunday night stay tuned. Pastor Bill: [5:55] Next Sunday night I think we'll talk about Ananias and Sapphira so you can just rage. Pastor Newms: [6:08] So it works I would also like to point out something weird that happened this week somehow over the last couple of days Charmander, become Cholomander And I'm not sure. Pastor Bill: [6:25] I'm notsure, Cholomander. Pastor Newms: [6:28] Why he has. Pastor Bill: [6:35] That's fantastic. Pastor Newms: [6:37] Mostly over his eyes that my lovely wife Zaydiee did but I would just like to point it out because I walked in my office was like. Pastor Bill: [6:49] What's up ese. Pastor Newms: [6:51] Why why is, why do I have a small orange cholo in my office I'm very very confused as to, why and why he looked so good as 12 let's just throw that out there, he looks really good and correct as a small gangster and so. Pastor Bill: [7:14] I've been so he's a super happy gangster though. Pastor Newms: [7:17] Super happy game. Pastor Bill: [7:18] It's not smile man. Pastor Newms: [7:21] Lots of Modello, sorry that last one was wrong that last one was. Pastor Bill: [7:29] That was a little over-the-top there bro. Pastor Newms: [7:32] But yeah that are week's been pretty good and and you know we've been playing a lot of Lost Ark played no Borderlands that I can remember, extremely have neglected Star Trek Fleet command. Pastor Bill: [7:52] It was it was a slow Ark this month so it's okay. Pastor Newms: [8:00] But it was a great ark. Pastor Bill: [8:01] Yeah it was great but it was slow there wasn't there wasn't a lot of events for running yeah it was a Ferengi, but there weren't a lot of events like even the event that there were a tea bag we're kind of like. Pastor Newms: [8:10] Ferengi. Pastor Bill: [8:13] Ferengi Ferengi ranking they're not furry though. Pastor Newms: [8:18] They are not free they are skinny. Pastor Bill: [8:20] They're faring the but they're not fair either. Pastor Newms: [8:24] They're definitely not fair they are cheaters only if they get caught. Pastor Bill: [8:27] Hmm only if they get caught but only when it comes to. Pastor Newms: [8:30] Pastor Bill how was your day. Pastor Bill: [8:35] Day my day was fine I played some some Lost Ark today and and finalized my studying for tonight and, um my girls spent the night at their Grandma's house last night my my there Mimi's house my wife's mother, and then my little three-year-old went into town to have church with my with my mother-in-law and the girls and then Roxanne went to go do some work and, W back here in a few hours and then and I was here with Gerg, um but Gerg slept till like 12:30 1:00 it was. Pastor Newms: [9:15] It is a quiet house you both just playing games on opposite sides of the house like. Pastor Bill: [9:20] Then he spent then he spent the priority that priority the most biggest part of the day in VR with with his friend, dark Grayson, in his room so he's literally on the other end literally on the other end of the house and I'm in here and just trying to grind one, kindness point on my virtue list in Lost Ark and it won't give it to me I am almost caught up with my main character on my alt and it still hasn't given me at this one kind of point that I'm trying to get. Pastor Newms: [9:57] You do know what's going to be really frustrating right. Pastor Bill: [9:59] I'm going to catch up and it's not so I'm going to give it to me then we're going to get onto my main and the very next Quest we do is going to give me that kindness boy. Pastor Newms: [10:05] We're going to we're going to we're going to wrap up the podcast I'm going to I'm going to do the thing I got to do. Pastor Bill: [10:10] And then while it's downloading we're going to turn on. Pastor Newms: [10:12] Start downloading it we're going to get on Lost Ark and it's going to be like here's the kindness and you're going to be like. Pastor Bill: [10:19] I just would like two days grinding for that on my alt. Pastor Newms: [10:22] But at least you're all got higher. Pastor Bill: [10:24] Well it's my old got up to level 30 yeah. Pastor Newms: [10:27] And you get you get cards you get you get all the stuff you. Pastor Bill: [10:30] Heart Of Cards, and Vivian oh my goodness I don't know any of the emotes Vivian wants she's in the tavern in the castle. Pastor Newms: [10:43] You mean the money you mean that you mean you mean that the gold digger. Pastor Bill: [10:47] Yeah the gold digger, I don't know any of the emotes she wants I don't know any of the songs that she wants but she accepts gifts I got her to friendly do you know what her friendly reward is what 45,000 card XP. Pastor Newms: [11:02] Really I might need to go talk to that gold. Pastor Bill: [11:06] Right. Pastor Newms: [11:08] So to be clear why I call her a gold digger. Pastor Bill: [11:12] It's because the first thing comes out of her mouth is as the friend of the King can you tell me how to become the Queen. Pastor Newms: [11:18] Yeah and then when you walk up and they you know NPC say stupid little random things one of the things she says is man I really need one of these guys to be rich and drunk and you're like what excuse me what like. Pastor Bill: [11:31] Yeah she is straight up a gold digger they wrote the character as a gold digger we're not being defamatory to women they literally wrote this character as the only thing on her mind is to find a man with money. Pastor Newms: [11:46] It is tear and which I could understand why she would accept gifts I personally am trying to save all of my gifts so that way I can I'm just doing what I can do now or what I have to do, and then once we are, John with more things there's like we've only unlocked like a third of the people so I don't want to waste all my free gift boxes like someone else has, and then there's someone that's awesome in the future and you're going to be like. Pastor Bill: [12:19] Have you gifts, are you doing my gifts. Pastor Newms: [12:26] And we should listen to my friend Newms has been playing games for. Pastor Bill: [12:28] Friend Newms has been playing games true with many more years. Pastor Newms: [12:32] He never took a break from them. Pastor Bill: [12:34] I've never said that ever. Pastor Newms: [12:36] No but that's what you're going to think I wish you would listen. Pastor Bill: [12:38] Not what I would think. Pastor Newms: [12:41] I wish I wish I knew my friend who's smarter than me. Pastor Bill: [12:44] And are we are we really going to be that old when they get far enough and lost ark that we find a good character. Pastor Newms: [12:50] Oh no that's just how you sound because you're old. Pastor Bill: [12:52] Sure that over I sound like that already. Pastor Newms: [12:54] Yeah that's how you sound all the time. Pastor Bill: [12:56] Who. Pastor Newms: [12:57] You can ask anyone who's listening everything comes out of your mouth is like this it here. Pastor Bill: [13:05] So here's the thing. I turned on my headphones. Pastor Newms: [13:11] Aha. Pastor Bill: [13:12] But they didn't actually connect to the computer because my wife was using them the other day. Pastor Newms: [13:16] So where have I been coming out of. Pastor Bill: [13:21] The speaker's at my desk. Pastor Newms: [13:22] I've got no feedback that's strange I Blame You. Pastor Bill: [13:29] Yeah because the only thing the hiccuped is my recording podcasts. Pastor Newms: [13:35] So now his things are going to hiccup because he's changing things mmm I heard a hiccup on my side, see the Beast the best also known as. Pastor Bill: [13:47] Mum's little groggy oh my little girl. Pastor Newms: [13:52] My little groggy oh my little groggy. Pastor Bill: [13:58] Yeah. Pastor Newms: [14:00] He says news is accurate that you sound like that so. Pastor Bill: [14:04] I also do the I've been smoking for 30 years voice and I. Pastor Newms: [14:13] No you don't normally sound like that if anyone if either the, is not going to be you between the two of us all right um this week on the podcast we're talking about. Pastor Bill: [14:36] And this week's card is. Pastor Newms: [14:38] Shoot I hate this part no this week's card is mine you did last week, see ya cuz you think it's 39 you've entitled the card 39 earlier. Pastor Bill: [14:58] But what does it say. Pastor Newms: [15:01] Before that that that's going to cause in fighting and there's just there's no okay I'm going to put it away don't anyone answer, in your opinion what is the best see this is already neither one of us is. Pastor Bill: [15:17] Okay. Pastor Newms: [15:19] Greatest piece of music ever written, because the problem is we both know what the actual best piece of music ever written is something we haven't heard, because only mainstream crap gets put out so the best piece of music is probably some obscure thing none of us have ever heard of so it's in a can answer it because it doesn't say. Pastor Bill: [15:42] Hey bro you're answering the question stop and pull a new card. Pastor Newms: [15:56] If your name was given as the description for one word and. Is groggy I can't with him, for those of you out there in listening. Pastor Bill: [16:21] Yeah I just sang part of. Pastor Newms: [16:22] Groggy just said What does the. Pastor Bill: [16:25] Okay. Pastor Newms: [16:26] Is is the I just I'm just making sure. Pastor Bill: [16:29] Biggs answer. Pastor Newms: [16:30] Even though I said no one answer we've now gotten two answers, in Mozart's Ninth is good to but if your name was given us the description for anyone word in the dictionary behind what word would people find your name example behind hilarious, is John Smith, which I don't understand Groggy says funny. Pastor Bill: [17:06] You don't think Greg he's funny oh. Pastor Newms: [17:07] I would say that's not it because corny oh no he's hilarious, um that's creepy. Pastor Bill: [17:18] Our and he says as he was a get it yeah. Pastor Newms: [17:22] No I said or hilarious and then he typed it at the same time which there's a delay in there so I know he didn't hear me lady says invisible which she wishes, it's how that goes, I have no idea my my my so I have always thought of myself as whoa, okay I'm a jerk my word is jerk it appears that is messed up that my own wife would say that but okay the, I've always viewed my personality is very multifaceted like a like a. Pastor Bill: [18:02] So it's sharp all over the place. Pastor Newms: [18:04] A rock that's been cut a whole bunch of different times and. Pastor Bill: [18:08] Facets your multifaceted. Pastor Newms: [18:09] It's sharp all over the place but there's so many different parts it's like yeah exactly, I said that already. Pastor Bill: [18:21] HPuff is on a different wavelength than we are right now I'm not sure. Pastor Newms: [18:31] I don't know what HPuff is talking about okay but, I can't think of one word because everyone who meets me is probably going to say a different word. Pastor Bill: [18:47] But you're not ugly, I like how your voice was even rough when you said rough. Pastor Newms: [19:02] Around the edges. Bill has blue oh yeah you've had a blue light on and your cup and stuff is yellow so it looks. Pastor Bill: [19:14] Yeah the light is is the rotating. Pastor Newms: [19:16] Corner up there at the top but now it's purple. Pastor Bill: [19:19] And now it's going to be orangish yellow and yellow. Pastor Newms: [19:21] And now it's red and yellow. Yeah the question was what would you call yourself what part of the dictionary one word would describe you Bill would Pastor Bill what he would what do you. Pastor Bill: [19:40] My one word you say obesity in the. Pastor Newms: [19:44] One word no we would not. Pastor Bill: [19:47] Because this this is obese and then there's morbidly obese is a completely different subsets. Well then I'm definitely morbidly. Pastor Newms: [19:59] I don't know dude cuz I'm borderline morbidly obese so let's be honest yeah but if you're thinking of like okay so like. Pastor Bill: [20:05] K Pastor Newms: [20:09] Like no not that example and nope not that one either nope not that one I can't think any of you, examples all of them have that have come to mind are terrible but like. Pastor Bill: [20:24] I've been called apostate, I've been called heretic, I've been called. Pastor Newms: [20:28] Right but you'd have to you. Pastor Bill: [20:30] That's impossible there's there's no sir. Pastor Newms: [20:31] It has to be something that you are more of than anyone else. Pastor Bill: [20:35] For me to be something of more than anyone else. Pastor Newms: [20:38] Yes there is exactly that's what I'm saying loved because I love you more than anyone else. Pastor Bill: [20:48] Easy cuz you're beautiful Duke de doodle-do. Pastor Newms: [20:57] Hello go back to that City inaccurate. Pastor Bill: [20:59] With the South Park version, Loving You Is Easy cause you're beautiful. Pastor Newms: [21:07] No we don't know we don't. Pastor Bill: [21:08] Do do do. Pastor Newms: [21:12] Rayne says you're loud. Pastor Bill: [21:14] There are Divergent. Pastor Newms: [21:17] Phoenix is just for all of us is neurodivergent. Pastor Bill: [21:21] All the people pictures of all the. Pastor Newms: [21:23] We have a whole dictionary and it's just a flip book and it's that word and just all the. Pastor Bill: [21:28] Te te te te te te te te te te. Pastor Newms: [21:30] Just a list of names and then the next page that yeah the next page just as liars and it's all people who say they're not. Pastor Bill: [21:42] The nuero-divergent and the liars. Pastor Newms: [21:47] And then in the front of it is. Pastor Bill: [21:52] Okay but then if everyone's neurodivergent then no one's no diversion anymore it's just that's normal. [22:08] 18 or the 1990s. Pastor Newms: [22:10] At time when we're usually already talking that's a movie in the 90s. Pastor Bill: [22:14] A movie in the late 1900's. Pastor Newms: [22:17] Where it was called Angus. Pastor Bill: [22:22] Angus like the beef. Pastor Newms: [22:24] It was called Angus was just great movie it's Angus like the beef it has in see built here goes Biggs he's already starting it there was it's never I've never seen it come out on DVD, I pulled it up one time and it was such bad quality that it was I found a download of it and it was the quality was unwatchable on Modern, TVs. Pastor Bill: [22:55] Oh yeah it was it was filmed in Auto auto what Tona Minnesota so yeah I can imagine it was awful. Pastor Newms: [23:07] Yeah but the whole purpose of the movie was this is where is this kid named Angus and you get to a certain point and he's a science, person trying to do an experiment he gets to a point where he talks about how the fact that there is no normal because as soon as one person is normal then no one can be, different or no one can be a freak because there is then everyone is a freak therefore, everyone is normal and there is no such thing as normal and it's this whole thing and the whole time that the movies progressing there's a science experiment going on and there's all this it's really good it's great movie, I've seen it like twice on television type thing like so I have no idea the whole movie probably and there's probably some terrible thing about it that I don't know. Pastor Bill: [23:58] Here's where you can buy the DVD of it on Walmart. Pastor Newms: [24:03] But was it remastered but look at the picture on the front of how bad the quality is I guarantee this would not they've not remastered this. Pastor Bill: [24:14] It's only got a picture of the cover it's great from the producer of Cool Runnings, Facebook Facebook rejected the the link so if you're on Facebook and you want the link and go to YouTube or Discord. Pastor Newms: [24:33] Okay you ready for this it's release I was wrong was 2009. Pastor Bill: [24:41] Hey got a theatrical release wow. Pastor Newms: [24:42] Theatrical release was 2012. Pastor Bill: [24:46] After it straight to video release. Pastor Newms: [24:49] Stir its regular release which means either straight-to-video or straight to TV um like. Pastor Bill: [24:59] Well there you go there's the. Pastor Newms: [25:00] I just I want it I do I've wanted it for you. Pastor Bill: [25:03] Actually it looks like they only have one inside. Pastor Newms: [25:07] Yeah it's probably not going to happen. Pastor Bill: [25:09] No like yeah Walmart has one in stock. Pastor Newms: [25:12] Anywhere. Pastor Bill: [25:13] For 14.99. Move to DVD. Pastor Newms: [25:25] Once and it's actually the VHS rip to a DVD. Pastor Bill: [25:29] Walmart's little bootleg DVDs all right, this week's podcast smooth transition, this week's podcast I called the Holy Spirit a gift for all and you gotta be careful when he's talking about the holy spirit because there are, um there are some divisive issues that exist in Christendom and this is definitely one of them. Pastor Newms: [26:01] What. Pastor Bill: [26:04] Personal stories are accepted in this conversation right and straight scripture is accepted in this conversation but we're not going to we're going to refrain from making statements, that aren't just quoting scripture or as part of a story of experience okay Pastor Newms, okay and go your turn to talk. Pastor Newms: [26:32] I don't think I can do that but we can try nope you're starting first I won't know where you're going before I go where I'm. Pastor Bill: [26:38] You always do this it's the pressure of being the host its so pressure so much. Pastor Newms: [26:43] Because in the notes that I actually wrote notes for this this time, the I wrote notes for this one actually which you know I normally don't do it just comes out the way I had to study this time I ended up texting everything to Tina because I was studying in the car and so then I was text, I had Tina writing it down and texting it to me what I was thinking about and what I was looking at and what I was and so that I actually had no it's a supposed to. Pastor Bill: [27:11] Why were you sitting in the car. Pastor Newms: [27:13] Like scribbles on my whiteboard like normal or like you know, because I studied some earlier this week and then I was doing final study while I was sitting in front of a Kroger and while I was getting gas. Pastor Bill: [27:28] You mean you actually left the house. Oh yeah I think it's the place yeah you sure did. Pastor Newms: [27:35] I told you we had a thing at the place nothing at my parents had Biggs's house, and so, I stayed in the car didn't go in the store hey I don't go to the store and listen I have to and it's like 6:00 in the morning ain't nobody else in there. Pastor Bill: [27:55] We're going to start and this is this is all I gave Newms by the way. Pastor Newms: [27:59] Okay go. Pastor Bill: [28:00] We're calling it this and we're starting with Acts chapter 1 verses 4 through 8 this is all the information I gave Newms, Pastor Newms: I forgot that. Pastor Bill: You did? Because you even you even put it into the so you wouldn't remember it. Pastor Newms: [28:19] I know I know I know I do, I know I. Pastor Bill: [28:26] Chapter 1 verses 4 through 8, while he was with them and this he that he is Jesus while he was with them he commanded them not to leave Jerusalem but to wait for the Father's Promise which he said you have heard me speak about, for John baptized with water but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit in a few days, so when they come together they asked him Lord are you restoring the kingdom to Israel at this time, he said to them it is not for you to know times or periods that yes that the father has set by his own authority, but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you and you will be my Witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the Earth end of the Earth not in interview, sir but the pause there I am. So this is Jesus you know when he's talking about John baptized with water and we've talked about in the past how Jesus never water baptized anyone, any events where it says, and Jesus and the disciples and they were baptizing it gives you that little caveat that says although Jesus himself never baptized anyone his disciples were baptizing people with, and then we're in that 40 days where Jesus met with the disciples, after his crucifixion after he as it Peter tells us descended, to share the gospel with those who were dead then he spent some time on Earth meeting with them showing himself to people, and that's when he says this thing to them that's when he tells them you know John baptized with water, but you're going to be baptized with the Holy Spirit and that's going to happen in a few days and. So this issue of the Holy Spirit when, when I was in high school there was well it's still there there's a local Baptist Church here in my hometown and the pastor of that church was one of the history teachers in our high school. And I don't know how it got I never had him as one of my teachers but he was teachers of teacher of people that I knew in high school and I don't know how the topic came up but for some reason it came up in history class, and he told his students that it was his belief that the Holy Spirit was only given. To those 11 people 11 men who were in that meeting with Jesus, when he said in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit, and that this dispensation of the Holy Spirit ended when those men died and that was his belief and I was rather flabbergasted by this. Wow I thought it was really weird that he believed that and obviously you do too because Pastor newms because you're making a face. Even even following the the life of Peter and his Revelation that salvation and the Holy Spirit were available for the Gentiles as well, like what do you do with that. And so also you have to there's other people that helped this this thought process about the Holy Spirit where, you know it came and was for a time and then we don't have access anymore like you're talking about and so let's turn to John chapter 14, and look at verse 17. You know what let's back up to verse 15 John chapter 14 where to start in verse 15, if you love me you will keep my commands now can we pause there what are Jesus commands. Pastor Newms: [34:46] Sorry know who I'm done. Pastor Bill: [34:53] Love God, by loving your neighbor by loving yourself love yourself so that you can love your neighbor so that you can love God those are his commands right yes, I just I see a lot of people touting out this this, 14:15 here and going well that's not love I don't I don't love you because I keep your commands except, the commands he's talking about are literally, love yourself love your neighbor and love God. Pastor Newms: [35:28] And and so I even that is questionable on whether he gave that as a command or he gave it as the answer to what is the greatest commandment. Pastor Bill: [35:45] I would say they're one in the same that it's that it's not an either or but it's one in the same. Pastor Newms: [35:50] And then some people would say everything he said was a command. Pastor Bill: [35:57] Yeah but for men that preached in Parables that's a little. Pastor Newms: [36:00] That's a little hard so. Pastor Bill: [36:02] It's a little interesting too. Pastor Newms: [36:05] But continue. Pastor Bill: [36:08] If you love me you will keep my commands and I will ask the father and he will give you another counselor to be with you forever, he is the spirit of Truth the world is unable to receive him because it doesn't see him or know him but you do know him because he remains with you and will be in you now, hearing Jesus say this I can 100% relate with Peters viewpoint, that the holy spirit is only for the Jews because from a cultural Viewpoint it was the Jews and the world, right it was a Jews and everyone else where these the Gentile world the Jesus just said it's not for the world that's not what Jesus was talking about right. Pastor Newms: [37:06] Right it was talking in the physical plane of existence. Pastor Bill: [37:11] Um okay and then, let's jump over to verse 26 John 14:26 all right so we're in the same chapter, and I'm just going to back up to verse 23 let's just Jesus answered. In response to Judas and the Bible feels the need to specify not a scary it, but a different guy named Judas as somehow is going to receive a themself to them but not to the world Jesus answers if anyone loves me he will keep my word, my father will love him and he will come to and make our home with him the one who doesn't love me will not keep my words the word that you hear is not mine but his from the father who sent me, I have spoken these things to you while I remain with you, but the counselor the Holy Spirit whom the father will send in my name will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you, all right so interesting side note this verse is taught in Islamic apologetics. Altered to drop the Holy Spirit, so they teach you to Islamic apologetics and say but the counselor whom the father will send in my name will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you and make the claim that Muhammad, was that counselor so, if you come across that don't be afraid to pull out your Bible and go well let's read that, ourselves now what they're going to say is yeah but the Bible has been changed that that's not that it's been corrupted it's been changed and that's fine they can say that if they want that's, I mean we we believe in faith not in concrete substance right so they said if they want that's not a big deal, um okay where are we going from there you have anything you want. Pastor Newms: [39:50] I don't know where I don't have your notes. Pastor Bill: [39:52] You have anything you want to inject at this point. Pastor Newms: [39:55] I'd like to jump to John 16, 16:7 since we're in John why not. Pastor Bill: [40:08] Why not. Pastor Newms: [40:09] Yet because I have spoken these things to you sorrow has filled your heart, nonetheless I'm telling you the truth it is for your benefit that I go away because if I do not go away the counselor we're not come if I go I will send him to you, when he comes he will convict the world about Sin righteousness and, about sin because they do not believe in me about righteousness because I am going to the father and you will no longer see me and about judgment because the ruler of this world has been judged, I still have many things to tell you but I cannot you cannot bear them now, and then when the spirit of truth comes he will guide you into all the truth for he, will not speak on his own but he will speak whatever he hears he will also declare to you what is to come he will glorify me because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you, the end of that thought is everything the father has is mine this is why I told you he takes from what his mind and will declare it to you and. It's interesting one that it has to be said again, I almost feel I feel sorry for Jesus so often when he's when we're reading biblical accounts because the disciples were little thick-headed, like as we saw in 14 twice he has to say the same thing and then 16 which isn't that long of a time after, he goes through the whole thing again and it's like guy's butt, the world because you know one of the one of the things you had said you know that people certain Christians believed was that it wasn't for, the Gentiles that was only for the Jews and here he specifically talks about no this is to the world. Pastor Bill: [42:35] And Peter was the first one to, come across this Revelation that oh Jesus literally meant everyone and then goes back to the rest of the church and the church is like you're crazy but that can't be right. Pastor Newms: [42:53] So I do find that to be interesting, along that line because it you know we talked also often about the Holy Spirit in conjunction with Christianity, and with Christians and people that have been saved but on the same token here it says the world period, not Believers not to you when he specifically talking to Christians not to you when he's talking about Jews not to it can't be misconstrued this this particular passage cannot be misconstrued as oh he's only talking to a group he's saying to everyone, it will be what convicts you of sin not go back and look at the what's already been written it's what will can show you what is righteousness it will teach you, and judge you because other people have you know the ruler of this world which is, thank you when your brain forgets the word Satan Satan's or devil that's when you might need to sit down somewhere. Pastor Bill: [44:17] So whenever that comes up my brain goes through the card deck samael Lucifer Satan devil Devils the word that's most accepted today devil that's what we're going with right now. Pastor Newms: [44:31] I was in I was somewhere recently and they started home about Satan and they were you Satan Satan Satan Satan he is he is he is like actually Satan's is the. Pastor Bill: [44:40] Actually that word yeah Satan's. Pastor Newms: [44:44] Okay I know what you mean though I can go with what you mean I agree with what you mean. Pastor Bill: [44:48] And if we're really gonna if we're really going to drill down into the that word it Loosely means adversary but more than that it means, the when you're at a trial and you have the defense team and then you have the lawyers that are representing the state and they're bringing the charges, it's what that word means it's the prosecutors. Pastor Newms: [45:14] So that that was something that really jumps out at me is the whole the world aspect and so that was one of my notes delete, then are you done for a minute would you like me to. Pastor Bill: [45:35] For a minute sure. Pastor Newms: [45:37] Or would you like to continue and I can't. Pastor Bill: [45:38] I have some Old Testament scriptures to bring up but they're more tack on notes than anything else. Pastor Newms: [45:45] So if we jump to 1st John 4:7. [45:52] It says dear friends. Pastor Bill: [45:54] You need to hold you to slow down people need to be able to turn to first John. Pastor Newms: [45:59] They can pause it it's a podcast. Pastor Bill: [46:01] I can't pause it I didn't know you wanted me to turn to first John. Pastor Newms: [46:05] Dear friends let us love one another because love is from God and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God, and that's important when I pull back to the Old Testament scriptures that I want to touch on. Pastor Bill: [46:23] Keep going man. Pastor Newms: [46:26] I'd have to turn to it I was reading out of my notes. Pastor Bill: [46:29] Verse 8 the one who does not love does not know God because God is love, God's love was revealed Among Us in this way, God sent his one and only son into the world so that we might live through him when people are like oh no I love them I love them really are you being passionate patient are you showing, okay compassion would you literally die for that person, would you literally put your son in danger to save their life this is how we know what love is. Pastor Newms: [47:11] And so and that ties back to the Old Testament scriptures I want to bring up so let's see what your Old Testament scriptures are first now I want to see yours. Pastor Bill: [47:20] No I'd be better for yours first and then we'll tack on, usually days ending in y are the ones that you have trouble problems. Pastor Newms: [47:34] Sure it's really true I want to go to Genesis 2:7. Pastor Bill: [47:39] We going all the way back. Pastor Newms: [47:41] When all the way back run all the way back to prove that point. Pastor Bill: [47:47] Genesis 2. Pastor Newms: [47:48] So and then God formed the Man Out of the Dust from the ground this is a verse everyone knows, everyone who is steeped in in Christian he's knows from the dust of the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils and Man became a living being, that's all that's all I wanted to touch now if we look at what's said in first John. Pastor Bill: [48:17] All right good do you continue the thought. Pastor Newms: [48:23] So if we you know you look at the first John when it talks about you know God loves God, is connected to you know those kind of things and then the god breathed, that breath is what is translated as either Soul or Spirit depending on your beliefs I know we've had a whole nother podcast about that in the past but that is the part of you that connects, to God, and so that I just wanted to touch on that and then I'll let you go year old testament scriptures and then I got one more at the end. Pastor Bill: [49:03] Okay let's start with since we're in Genesis 2. Pastor Newms: [49:07] Oh yes. Pastor Bill: [49:10] You don't know what I'm about to say so you know how there's a creation story in Genesis 1. Pastor Newms: [49:17] Huh. Pastor Bill: [49:18] And then another creation story in Genesis 2, so Genesis 2 is historically the first installment of the Book of Genesis, and then when the Israelites get taken into captivity in Babylon Babylon, that we were talking about earlier in a previous episode where that then creates a Samaritans, Genesis what we consider Genesis chapter 1 was written during that time frame, inspired by the Babylonian creation myths, so the story that Moses wrote down as the creation story started with what we call Genesis chapter 2, and then this other stuff was tacked on later not saying it's illegitimate, positioning historically it was added when they were in Exile in Babylon and reflects a Judy a, judeo viewpoint on Babylonian creation myths. But as we talked about before it's my personal View that all religions exist from glimpses of the same divine. Pastor Newms: [50:54] We have. Pastor Bill: [50:55] We all peer into the Divine and we translate what we saw, through our own viewpoints okay that's all I want to say about that so let's go to, and these are pretty thund ational scriptures for anyone who's been in the church for a while you're going to recognize these statements probably, I'm trying to decide if it's better to go to Isaiah first or Joel first. Pastor Newms: [51:28] I mean we should always lead with Isaiah right I mean it's kind of the more well-known. Pastor Bill: [51:32] I think Joel is making reference back to Isaiah. Pastor Newms: [51:37] Joel's more of a deep cut. Pastor Bill: [51:40] Let's start with Isaiah we're going to go to Isaiah chapter 32 and probably start in verse 15, forgive me for not knowing. Pastor Newms: [51:57] We should start in 14. Pastor Bill: [51:59] Where Isaiah is because I never memorized the books of the Bible lists because that's not really how my brain works so. Pastor Newms: [52:10] 15 starts with until-- mean, really want to start with until-- Pastor Bill: [52:16] Well yeah it starts with until. Pastor Newms: [52:18] A lowercase until-- in the csb. Pastor Bill: [52:20] Yes. Pastor Newms: [52:25] And the verse before it ends with a. Pastor Bill: [52:30] Now I get that so basically everything leading up to that is is going to be bad and dry and thirsty and parched until-- the spirit from on high is poured out on us then the desert will become an orchard and the orchard will seem like a forest, and this is this is textbook Isaiah to be, like that poetic imagery so now we're going to jump ahead to Isaiah chapter 44 and probably started in verse 3. Basically he's God's making an encouragement statement be encouraged don't see her for I will pour water on the Thirsty land and streams on the dry ground, I will pour out my spirit on your descendants and my blessings on your Offspring and we're going to keep going, this is verse for now they will Sprout among the grass like poplars by flowing streams, this one will say I am the Lord's, another will use the name of Jacob still another will write on his hand the Lord's and take on the name of Israel, so we see here Isaiah is talking about the pouring out of this of the spirit but we also see him talking about three religious splits, that are going to happen after that point and we literally, when we see that happen and more even explodes off and off and I mean now we have all these denominations okay, Joel all jewelry 2:28 in this is the last verse I have for tonight. Pastor Newms: [54:51] One more. Pastor Bill: [54:51] If you've never read newms has another verse if you've never read The Book of Joel I don't recommend it, um Pastor Newms: [55:01] Why are you going. Pastor Bill: [55:02] Unless. Pastor Newms: [55:03] Okay no it looked like you were going way to the back and I'm like dude no that's not that's not where Joel is homie I know you didn't memorize but it's in the old side not the new sites. Pastor Bill: [55:14] Joel Joel is not for the faint of heart or for the, new new reader of the word, let's put it that way alright Joel 2:28 after this after what, it really doesn't matter in the Book of Joel because nothing Joel rights is in order. Pastor Newms: [55:39] He likes to Jump Around. Pastor Bill: [55:43] Theoretically see things and then he would go and after the thing I just saw. Blah and not tell anybody what he saw okay after this I will pour out my spirit on all Humanity all, Humanity then your sons and your daughters will prophesy your old men will have dreams and your young men will see visions, I will even pour out my spirit on the male and female slaves in those days I will just play wonders in the heavens and on the earth Blood Fire and Columns of smoke and then he gets a little apocalyptic, the sun will be turned to Darkness and the moon to blood before the great and terrible day of the Lord comes that great and terrible day of the Lord is a, reference to the Judgment seat, at the end that the Jews believed in the Christians believe in, that's the great and terrible day of the Lord then everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved for there will be an escape for those on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem as the Lord promised among the survivors the Lord calls, so the survivors the Lord calls are those who attain salvation because as we've seen before the Lord calls everyone it is God's will that none should perish, but like I said Joel's a little intense if you're unfamiliar with. Pastor Newms: [57:17] Is it gets a good way to put Joe. Pastor Bill: [57:23] With what's going on in Scripture all right so what scripture did you want to share. Pastor Newms: [57:28] So my last scripture is Jobe, I know I know right Jobe 34, 14 and 15 and so sure. Pastor Bill: [57:54] Can I share an interesting note first and how my brain works so if you're reading the Bible chronically in chronicle chronological order read Genesis chapters 1 through 11, and then you read the book of job and then you go back and start Genesis chapter 12. Pastor Newms: [58:13] I picked really deep Cuts like I picked like beginning, of the Old Testament because so many people often say well this is talked about only in the New Testament the holy spirit is only talked about here this doesn't apply for this reason or this doesn't know this is this is beginning of time stuff guys like this is creation this is right after creation. Pastor Bill: [58:34] There were more references in the what's the word about my brain wants to say to Nook, but I'm going to start word no in the Jewish scriptures, Torah there were more references in the torch of the Holy Spirit but when the Christian Church adapted the Holy Spirit as something they were saying and and blah blah blah, then most of the references in the Torah to Holy Spirit were worded differently to reflect God or Lord or things like this so there were more references before, and over time it got changed. 14 through 15. Pastor Newms: [59:24] Just so we know job for those that might not there's a lot going on in job and job. Pastor Bill: [59:34] You're like you. Pastor Newms: [59:35] Praise a lot in Earnest is a good way to say that because of situations that are going on around him and to him and near him. Pastor Bill: [1:00:08] This is alive. Pastor Newms: [1:00:10] So is this a lie who at this point. Pastor Bill: [1:00:12] Mmm Yeah. Pastor Newms: [1:00:13] Okay this is one of his. Pastor Bill: [1:00:15] Confronting job. Pastor Newms: [1:00:16] Yeah is one of it so that is so job is pouring out to his friends who were in the room and then his one of his friends, is kind of clapping back at him like will you just need to and this is in that one of those sections I was actually scrolling up to see, which situation it was and he says if he puts his mind to it. Pastor Bill: [1:00:39] This is this is the same friend that says things like they died in their youth their life ends amongst male cult prostitutes which was like the worst insult you could use of the day ever. Pastor Newms: [1:00:54] His friends were kind of interesting Souls, so it says if he puts his mind to it and withdrew the spirit, and breath he gave every living thing would perish together and Mankind would return to dust, and the reason I say that yes it's not God saying it yes it's not, but it's just that thought process that way back then they understood closer than we do now that, that breath that spirit that the lord gave us that he breathed out of himself without that we're dead we're done we're checked out we literally fall to the ground, now we wouldn't literally turn to dust we're not vampires but over time we would turn to dust that's what he means he doesn't mean just poof dust but you know semantics let's be clear. Pastor Bill: [1:02:02] Actually the Jewish thought of the day was when the spirit was removed from the body that's when rigor mortis and decay. Pastor Newms: [1:02:11] Which makes sense so. Pastor Bill: [1:02:15] From their Viewpoint it does. Pastor Newms: [1:02:16] Yeah so, in that that's that's really what I wanted to do and and I came across something that was interesting when I was when I was looking at stuff and this guy writes you know I'm not the first person, to challenge The View that Christians are the only people that have the Holy Spirit. And then he adds a quote from someone else this, I'm going to read the quote first and then I'll say who it's from cuz, I cannot make myself believe that God did not reveal himself in other religions I believe that God works through Gandhi and the spirit of Jesus, saturated his life it's ironic, inescapably true that the greatest Christian of the modern world was a man who never embraced Christianity because to be Christian is to be Chris, this is me talking to be Christian is to be Christ-like and so often we ignore that part now the person who said that was dr. Martin Luther King jr. who I don't you know he had some interesting beliefs sometimes and he's from a sec of Christianity that I don't always agree with but, I don't fully agree with that statement in everything that it says but, it is interesting that this is not a New Concept this is a concept that's throughout the Bible that, you know the Holy Spirit has been poured out throughout. Pastor Bill: [1:03:56] On all mankind. Pastor Newms: [1:03:58] And that. Pastor Bill: [1:03:59] If it wasn't then no one would ever feel convicted for sin that's what we read we read it. Pastor Newms: [1:04:07] And no one would according to you know but job's friends said no one would still walk we're all checked out. Pastor Bill: [1:04:17] That's exactly the same there but. Pastor Newms: [1:04:19] It's not it's not but there is just that interestingness of there are, so much around the holy spirit that we can argue about as Christians one of the points we should not is that it is for all people because, God is love anyone who loves loves has you know part of God is what we read, in order for that to be true unless you believe that anyone who says I love you or shows love or shows any of the fruits of the spirit. Is is is is not, you know that's that whole thing it's interesting to me often when you have people there's this View and Christianity that people try to do and say sometimes which is, people who aren't Christians can't truly have morals you know you hear this every now and then and a Christian will be like, well how do you just keep from murdering people, because it's wrong like the and it's because we have convictions why is it that most modern religions, and most, countries that exist in most humans walking around the world have a set of beliefs where they draw that line, like they like you know there are certain things most people agree is wrong. Murder is wrong there's not many people who are like well I like it it's like okay but you still know it's wrong like. Pastor Bill: [1:06:19] Let's let's let's draw this out some and just kind of get a big picture view of of a of a detail here the holy spirit is what convicts of sin. What convicted of sin before the Holy Spirit came. Pastor Newms: [1:06:39] It's a good question and how do we have, yes but on the same. Pastor Bill: [1:06:50] Is given and spread and as it spread, it became the conductor and if we look back let's say pre-flood. Pastor Newms: [1:07:02] Hm Pastor Bill: [1:07:05] There was no conviction everyone just did what they wanted, and I got darker and darker and darker and darker and then a new law was given and what was that new law, don't kill nobody I was the one law that was given to Noah don't kill nobody and it spread, the law convicts, did the lock in the end it was a merciless convict ER and I merciless judgment judge and now the Holy Spirit convicts and the Holy Spirit is a merciful, convict her who is an extension of a merciful judge. So I thought we would look at that aspect there for. Pastor Newms: [1:08:01] Yeah and. Pastor Bill: [1:08:05] And you can do with that at home as you want I don't care believe it don't believe it compare it to scripture I don't care what you do with it, because anything that doesn't have anything to do with me what I care about is whether or not you verify it, you can dismiss it or you can verify it. Pastor Newms: [1:08:38] Non salvation issues. Pastor Bill: [1:08:38] Squabbles I don't care about squabbling over other things. Pastor Newms: [1:08:42] But yeah so that that's really just what I wanted to touch on was just the fact of you know it's our connection to God through the spirit is, everything it's not just so often fine go. Pastor Bill: [1:09:06] Your virtual camera click there for a second if we go back to that Genesis 2 and we talked about God breathing life, into that's very poetic way to put it but when you go back to the original language it paints this whole picture that's more akin to God removing a piece of himself, and shoving it into mankind we are made of the same stuff inside that God is. Pastor Newms: [1:09:40] A piece of him. Pastor Bill: [1:09:42] Almost literally a piece of him so. Pastor Newms: [1:09:52] I had something else but I lost it when you when you shoving pieces down people's throats I'd lost what I was going to say. Pastor Bill: [1:10:00] All right so let's have a fun little thought experiment for like 10 12 minutes. Pastor Newms: [1:10:07] Wow where you go for an hour and a half tonight I let's do. Pastor Bill: [1:10:09] Yeah we're going over now 9:30 do we live, in a simulation. Pastor Newms: [1:10:16] Does it matter. Pastor Bill: [1:10:20] Okay play along please. Pastor Newms: [1:10:23] Okay Define simulation. Pastor Bill: [1:10:28] You define simulation what is a simulation. Pastor Newms: [1:10:33] Exactly, if it is I would agree we're a simulation do I think. Pastor Bill: [1:10:51] Simulations have a set standard of something that's trying to be accomplished okay here's my point here's here's my thing, all this talk we live in a simulation we live in it now and and Peep in a lot of Christians like nah that's stupid we have God God created everything we live our lives okay, Paul talks about over and over and over again this world is not my home, and this world is just a shadow of temporary things to come and I'm only here, to have faith so it's like saying the world is a simulation you're basically just embracing Paul's teachings in the New Testament, that all of this is fake and that God created a simulation that we call the universe, put us here in the stimulation for us to learn faith and when we learn faith, after the start time of the simulation we get to go on to be with God and if we didn't learn Faith then we failed the simulation and we go off to, this other place. Pastor Newms: [1:12:15] We're past an hour I'm going to say people get really really butthurt when you say you might live in a simulation we're past an hour you're getting uncut it happens, people get real upset about that and it's like why will because I am a person and I'm alive no one said you weren't. Pastor Bill: [1:12:33] I said you weren't. Pastor Newms: [1:12:34] I was watching something that really made me go huh recently and I only watched a couple episodes of it so I don't recommend it don't even know what it's called, it's a show about an afterlife, upload it thank you and if you when you die if you do certain things your brain can get uploaded, into this computer for money and when it happens you then continue to live inside a simulation, and depending on how much you spend is depends on what you get and all this kind of stuff and you can still interact with the outside world and it was interesting because one point when I was watching it, and like I said I didn't watch much of it so I have no idea anything about it let's be clear literally watch I think I think I watched two episodes. Pastor Bill: [1:13:25] I watched it there's a season 2 coming. Pastor Newms: [1:13:27] So interesting and in it I had a thought though I was like the whole world's kind of like that, picked us out of Eternity shoved us here and was like figure it out see you in a couple of years you know and, not to say that he's hands off that's not what I'm trying to say because you can again in this show you can interact with the world world which we can interact with the real word world through you know, prayer and things he gave us but I've always found that to be interesting similar to The Matrix on the whole like, there's a reason you know we are connected in a certain way and there's this, in The Matrix there's the song that's played in I think the third one by one of my favorite bands. And it's called sleeping awake and it's talking about Zion which is a city in, The Matrix in the world world and it's talking about trying to get there and the whole time I'm just sleeping awake and so it's you know I'm asleep because I'm in a computer simulation, so my real body is asleep but I am awake and it's the trying to get to Zion and and it's an interesting song because especially people external to Christianity was like oh yeah this is a banger like this is really great this sums up the movie so well blah blah blah and then the rest of us are like, yeah but no seriously we're stuck here where we don't want, you know to live is Christ to die is gain like we're this isn't it this is I'm just trying to get somewhere else and that's completely what the songs about you missed it but it's okay because you didn't know pod was a Christian band so you know, but anyway that's my that's my concept of a simulation of, what's a simulation I need definition do I believe we're sitting in a computer right now like The Matrix, the think so and there's guards computer is just way more awesome than what we understand. Pastor Bill: [1:15:38] Bright not a computer like we Define it but possibly some kind of processor is running the universe, I had saw Tik-Tok probably two weeks ago and this girl was talking about, she said I know we live in a simulation I believe the science has proved we live in a simulation but here's my question, why hasn't the person who created the simulation just come and told us what the simulation is for, and I was like, Jesus. Pastor Newms: [1:16:10] And all the prophets and all the. Pastor Bill: [1:16:12] Came and told us what the simulation was for he literally this is the creator literally came and was rejected. Pastor Newms: [1:16:22] Uploaded himself into an avatar walked around told us what was going on and then check back out. Pastor Bill: [1:16:28] Yeah and and only parts of us believed it and entertaining, so that's all I have for this week. Pastor Newms: [1:16:40] Everyone no one really talked much this week I would like to say. Pastor Bill: [1:16:44] Now that the chat stayed pretty quiet this week. Pastor Newms: [1:16:46] Makes me sad on the inside. Pastor Bill: [1:16:49] Bad chat bad shot. Pastor Newms: [1:16:50] No no no we never say badge. Pastor Bill: [1:16:54] Don't shame the chat. Pastor Newms: [1:16:55] You don't shame the chat we just request feedback. Intro And Outro Music Pastor Bill: [1:17:00] No chat shame. Pastor Newms: [1:17:01] No chat Shamy. Pastor Bill: [1:17:02] I love you guys. Pastor Newms: [1:17:05] Except groggy groggy said some shameful chats tonight be safe out there guys. Pastor Bill: [1:17:13] And until next time.
