We're back with another episode in our Nintendo RPG category, this time featuring Nintendo's iconic mascot, Mario! Super Mario RPG was released initially in 1996 for the Super Nintendo with a full remake released in 2023 for the Nintendo Switch. Team up with a party of unlikely allies on a quest to repair Star Road and defeat the troublemaking Smithy Gang. The brothers agree that the characters are a major highlight of the game and also offer praise at the offering of side content. They also agree on the game's difficulty (or lack thereof) and ponder what can possibly change to make things easier in the game's Breezy mode. Ant recalls playing the SNES version and draws comparisons to the remake. Another reference to Super Smash Bros is made, as is tradition when discussing Nintendo games on Brothers & Boss Battles. This week the brothers ask which character would you take with you on a mission to defeat Smithy and his gang? Geno, Peach, or Bowser.Follow us onX @BrosBossBattlesInstagram @BrosBossBattleshttps://brothersandbossbattles.com/

Nicky and Eric discuss game secrets, company rivalries, and why Nintendo never made a sequel to the original Super Mario RPG. Super Mario RPG is a role-playing Mario game for the Nintendo Switch. It's a remake of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars that came out for Super Nintendo in 1996. The remake was developed by ArtePiazza and was released on November 17, 2023. The story focuses on Mario and his friends as they seek to defeat the Smithy Gang, who have crashed into their world and scattered the seven star pieces of Star Road. Press Any Button hosts Nicky (a new gamer) and Eric (a lifetime gamer) are a married couple who both love video games. For every video game they will discuss its past (history of the game, developers story, and fun facts), present (game play, game review and strategy), and future (will there be a sequel?? A movie?) BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE… Every game also comes with a challenge presented by the host that chose the game. If the challenge is not completed then whoever failed has to do a video game rap! So if you want to learn more about video games, hear some nerdy video game raps, or just have a good time this is the podcast for you. We try to cover all types of video games including: Retro and New video games Playstation, Nintendo, Xbox, Sega, and PC games Any and all genres including RPG, Simulation, Beat em up, platforming, mystery, first person shooter, sandbox, puzzle, action adventure, etc. Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/pressanybutton_podcast Credits: Nicky Smith Eric Luedtke Music by Mark Spurlock and Eric Luedtke References: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Mario_RPG https://mario.fandom.com/wiki/Super_Mario_RPG_(Nintendo_Switch) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Square_Enix https://web.archive.org/web/20230114212005/https://shmuplations.com/supermariorpg/
This week we do a summer check in on some of the games we've been playing. Strangely, they're all some form of retro-inspired RPG/adventure style games. There's the Commodore 64-era inspired Skald: Against the Black Priory. There's the Super NES era Super Mario RPG remake. And there's the PS1-aesthetic adventure game homage, Lorelei and the Laser Eyes. Lorelei was of particular interest, as it inspired us to lean into the artistic approach and go back to pen and paper as a way to solve puzzles and remember information. It's a good sign when a game inspires a notebook full of glyphs and half-crazed riddles.

Bree reunites with TFTRR video game expert and digital journalist Ted Raymond to talk about the time Mom and Dad (a.k.a. Nintendo and Square) got divorced, and the honour student they made before that happened: Super Mario RPG. We discuss RPG history and the meteoric, early-90s rise of everyone's favourite plumber, get really, really nerdy about the vaudevillian nature of Super Mario RPG, share our differing opinions about Gino and give our take on the Switch reissue. Oh, and we sing a lot.

It's hard to go a few months without a remaster of a beloved RPG gracing our physical or virtual shelves, but when some of those are the quality of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series or the recent Persona 3 Reload, we aren't complaining. This age of remasters also means updated or rearranged music is part of the package, so today we're showcasing some stellar new takes on music for eight RPG remasters released in recent years.Featuring: Michael Sollosi, Audra Bowling, Gio Castillo, Lucas Greene; Edited by Mike SalbatoTracklistBlock 1 - Final Fantasy Anthology0:06:02 - Battle on the Big Bridge (Nobuo Uematsu) - Final Fantasy V Pixel Remaster0:08:32 - Aria di Mezzo Carattere {English Language Version} (Nobuo Uematsu) - Final Fantasy VI Pixel RemasterBlock 2 - Yoko! Merry Chrysler! We here at Axe of the Blood God prepared this very special episode that takes both a deeply critical and celebratory look at the nutty year that just passed us by. We had RPGs galore! Have we ever seen such bounty? New Zelda! New Baldur's Gate! New Cyberpunk...sort of! But we had troubles galore, too. Layoffs and downsizing left and right. The end of vintage game media websites and game studios. What awaits us in 2024? We dunno! But we can guarantee the Blood God will always be with you. That's what Christmas is all about. In this episode: Our Game of the Year! Zelda, Zelda, Baldur's Gate, Zelda! The Super Mario RPG remake is great! Starfield discourse that's as long and girthy as Luigi's schlong And lots more! We talk final rankings and then hash out the changes and improvements we want to implement in 2024 - including ways of allowing the community to join in the fun more directly! Originally released for the Super Nintendo in 1996, Super Mario RPG is back in 2023 with a full remake for the Nintendo Switch. While the graphics are completely remade, along with quality-of-life updates, pre-rendered cutscenes, and newly recorded music, the remake remains faithful to the aesthetic and feel of the original. So, what does the Punching Up crew think? In this episode, we dive deep into the new release and our thoughts so far. As always, we love hearing from you as well, so we've incorporated your questions and comments into the show. What's next for Mario mixed with RPGs? Are classic RPG elements lost on new players?
