Heeeeeey, it's Rob's birthday. Time to pick this month's theme! Maybe it's the near decade's worth of podcasting, but this February, Rob decided that his impeding aging anniversary should also receive celebration in the form of "OOPS! All Rob picked articles". So, given carte blanche to talk about anything in the world of ABA, what did he choose? Well, first, he took the week off while we unlock last year's Winter Book Club on "The Science of Consequences" with a bonus interview with author Dr. Susan Schneider (interested in 2.5 CEs for free? Upgrading to the $10 level on Patreon is your answer). After that, he brings special guest, Danielle Yang, to the table to learn about the state of therapeutic role-playing games and how your weekly D+D game could be added into your ABA services. And finally, because it's been far too long and is one of the most mind-blowingly awesome procedures in his 20 years in the field, Rob brings back the Preschool Life Skills for a record-breaking THIRD time! The best part about Rob's birthday is by just listening to these episodes, you've already gotten him all the gifts he could ever want. NOTE: We talk a lot about the upcoming changes to the website. Well, due to some technical problems, we had to rush the new website news to...LAST WEEK! Hopefully abainsidetrack.com will take you straight there, but, if not, our new website is now HERE! Tackling well-known skeptics like Hawking, Dawkins, Dennett, Hitchens, and Onfray, Dr. Lennox pinpoints fallacies in the New Atheists' approach, arguing that their irrational, unscientific methodology is no better than the unreasoned claims offered by religious dogmatists.Become a Parshall Partner: http://moodyradio.org/donateto/inthemarket/partnersSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

When Lee Baca took over the LA County Sheriff's Department in 1998, he inherited a scandal-plagued agency. He built a reputation as a progressive reformer, and his jail-education programs were celebrated. But the feds notice that investigations into his agency always seem to evaporate when he gets involved. By 2011, he is 70 years old and has run the department for 13 years. Furious about the FBI's probe into his jails, Baca has Leah Marx surveilled. Two of his sergeants appear at her apartment and threaten her with arrest. Allegations emerge about the beating of a jail visitor name Gabriel Carrillo. The feds have expanded their probe beyond civil rights violations. Can they make a case for obstruction of justice? How high does the misconduct go?Baca's clash with the FBI revealed how deeply the department was in turmoil. Allegations of intimidation and the beating of visitor Gabriel Carrillo turned a civil rights probe into one of Los Angeles' most significant corruption cases. Host Chris Goffard, from the Los Angeles Times and creator of Dirty John, traces how the investigation escalated to obstruction of justice.Topics in this episode include: Sheriff Lee Baca, Los Angeles County Jail scandal, Gabriel Carrillo beating, FBI investigation, police corruption.

Every day since the US/Israeli mercenaries set up their fake aid distribution killing field, they have committed a massacre of starving children -- children who have been starved by those very same governments who are putting food parcels in their hands and bullets in their backs. Was there something else in the news?
In this powerful episode of Reading with Your Kids, listeners get a two-part exploration of impactful storytelling for young adults. First, author Mike Bender and illustrator Chuck Dillon dive into "Bored Panda," a delightful children's book celebrating the magic of boredom. They argue that unstructured time isn't something to fear, but an opportunity for creativity. Drawing from childhood memories of limited entertainment, they show how imagination flourishes when kids aren't constantly stimulated by devices. The second half of the episode takes a more serious turn with Stacy Padula and David Gunning discussing the "Gripped" series. This young adult narrative tackles critical issues of teen addiction, focusing on Taylor Duncan, a promising football player whose painkiller addiction derails his life. Inspired by personal experiences with the opioid crisis, Pedula and Gunning are adapting the book series into a television show to raise awareness about substance abuse and mental health among teenagers. Pedula, who began writing the series as a teenager herself, wanted to create realistic stories that address peer pressure, substance abuse, and identity challenges that traditional young adult books often overlook. David Gunning, who lost an uncle to opioid addiction, is passionate about bringing this important story to the screen. Both segments highlight the power of storytelling - whether through humor and creativity or through addressing serious societal issues. The episode demonstrates how books can entertain, educate, and inspire young readers by speaking directly to their experiences. From the playful world of "Bored Panda" to the intense narrative of "Gripped," this episode offers something for every parent and young reader looking for meaningful, engaging content.
Legendary American scholar and critic Tom Gunning has changed the way we think about film history and the future of the medium, profoundly influencing generations of academics, artists, and cinephiles. On Sunday, April 27, Devika Girish and Clinton Krute hosted a live conversation with Gunning and curator David Schwartz at the Museum of the Moving Image, following a screening of Hal Hartley's Flirt (1995), an experimental narrative of love and loss set in three cities—New York, Berlin, and Tokyo. The event was part of a multiday series of screenings and discussions organized by Schwartz, taking place at venues including MoMI, Anthology Film Archives, and Light Industry. This special weekend marked the publication of a new collection of Gunning's writing, entitled The Attractions of the Moving Image: Essays on History, Theory, and the Avant-Garde. The conversation covered a wide range of topics, from Gunning's seminal essay “The Cinema of Attractions” (1986) to his teacher-student relationship with Hartley to some contemporary films that he's (perhaps surprisingly) enjoyed.
