The third installment in the Yoshi's Island series, it is set between the events of Yoshi's Island (1995) and Yoshi's Island DS (2006). The game was released in Europe, North America, and Australia in March 2014 and in Japan in July 2014.Like its predecessors, Yoshi's New Island's gameplay revolves around safely transporting the infant Mario to his brother Luigi by completing a series of levels across an island. The player characters are dinosaurs known as the Yoshi species; each dinosaur is named Yoshi and has a unique color. In addition to returning mechanics such as hovering, as well as laying and throwing eggs, Yoshis are occasionally able to create massive eggs known as Eggdozers, which can be used to clear paths.The development team chose to create a sequel to Yoshi's Island due to its simplicity in gameplay and construction. The game shared some level design staff with Yoshi's Woolly World, which was developed concurrently at Good-Feel. Yoshi's New Island features a hand-drawn art style where level designs and backgrounds are stylized as oil paintings, watercolors, and crayon drawings.Yoshi's New Island received mixed reviews from critics, who praised its sense of charm and nostalgia, but were divided on its art style, level design, and difficulty. Criticism was directed toward its soundtrack—which some considered repetitive—as well as the game's perceived lack of originality in comparison to its predecessors. The game was reissued as part of the Nintendo Selects line in 2016, and by 2020 it had sold more than two million copies worldwide. Es gibt glaube ich kaum einen, der Yoshi nicht mag. Und besonders der Woll-Yoshi hat uns damals in Yoshis Wooly World auf der Wii-U in seinen Bann gezogen. Umso erfreulicher, dass wir nun erneut die Gelegenheit bekommen, das kunterbunte und zuckersüße Abenteuer von Yoshi auf dem 3DS zu erleben. Diesmal hat er sogar seinen Freund Schnuffel, den Woll-Hund mitgebracht. Und was soll ich sagen, es ist wieder einmal Zucker pur, wie die wolligen Freunde sich durch die Level bewegen, ihre Animationen, ihre Geräusche, einfach alles. Man muss jedoch dazu sagen, dass es sich hierbei lediglich um einen Port auf den 3DS handelt, die Level und Welten sind gleich, es gibt lediglich ein paar kürzere Schnuffel-Spurt-Level hinzu. Zum Glück gibt es ja so viel zu sammeln in jedem Level, sodass bestimmt die wenigsten damals alles gesammelt haben, außerdem ist es auch das ideale Spiel für unterwegs. Freunde des Koop-Modus werden jedoch enttäuscht sein, denn diesen gibt es hier nicht, was ich persönlich aber nicht so schlimm fand, da ich selber auf dem 3DS eh das Solospiel bevorzuge.

Bereits auf der letzten Gamescom wusste ich, dass Yoshi's Woolly World ein Highlight für die Wii-U werden könnte. Als ich es jetzt ausgiebig testen konnte bin ich mir sogar sicher, dass Yoshi absolut mit Mario mithalten kann. Auch wenn die Hintergrundstory total öde ist, macht Yoshi fast alles richtig. Die wundervolle "Wolloptik" ist einzigartig und wirkt sehr unverbraucht und das unbeschreiblich gute sowie abwechslungsreiche Gameplay setzt dann noch einen oben drauf. Besonders lustig wird es wenn man im Koop-Modus durch die Welten marschiert und sich gegenseitig sogar durch die Levels schießen kann. Dennoch steht man sich hierbei doch öfter im Weg. Besonders nervig ist es, wenn man aus Versehen dann auf den falschen Knopf gedrückt hat und seinen Kumpel aufisst und dieser dann sämtliche gesammelten Wollkugeln verliert. Auch wenn man in Woolly World so oft sterben kann wie man möchte, kann es hier und da mal passieren, dass man Frust schiebt. Doch dafür hat dieses Spiel eine Besonderheit eingebaut, denn sobald man das Spiel von klassisch auf entspannt stellt, kann Yoshi sogar fliegen und dadurch kann einen im Grunde nichts mehr frustrieren. Mein Fazit: Endlich wieder ein toller, gemütlicher Jump'n'Run Spaß! Die letzten Spiele wie "Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze" und "Kirby und der Regenbogen-Pinsel" konnten nicht so sehr überzeugen wie unser Held Yoshi.

In celebration of a certain shark's 40th anniversary, the Steven Spielberg classic Jaws was re-released to theaters this week - and because we seize literally any excuse to bring up Jaws games, we've created a whole Top 5 around them, which should be enough to keep Mikel from mentioning Jaws Unleashed for at least a while. Yoshi's Woolly World is a side-scrolling platform game developed by Good-Feel and published by Nintendo for the Wii U. The game is the seventh main entry in the Yoshi series of games, the first home console title in the series since 1997's Yoshi's Story, as well as the spiritual successor to 2010's Kirby's Epic Yarn.
