Many on the Jumpship development team come from another indie studio, Playdead, who were famous for making Limbo and Inside, so you might recognize many elements of those famous games here. To start the show Both Kevin and Brady describe what made those early games so special and how they see the DNA of them in Somerville. Then they cover some of the puzzles that either fascinated or frustrated them and some of their favorite story moments in a semi-spoilery fashion. Near the end Brady reveals a theory that helps make sense of all five possible endings and what they mean for the overall story of the game. Play Dead!  is a funny, tender video diary on living with diabetes, where Lancit playfully transforms his personal experience and fear of dying into a body horror film, where an invisible disease crawls inside his body. The film premiered in the Camera Lucida sidebar of Dok Leipzig in October 2023 and available to stream on Arte TV in France until 16 March and at Jean Rouch International Festival in May. After leaving his advertising job as a director in a New York animation studio to live in Cameroon, Lancit embarked on the making of his first feature-length documentary, Funeral Season (2011) – which has since been chosen for preservation by the Library and Archives of Canada and selected to over 50 international festivals.Lancit is known for his autobiographical films that intertwine his personal life with philosophical subjects. His films play with the intersections of history and cinema. Search for family in the wake of an invasion. After getting a break for a couple of episodes, the Xbox Game Pass “Surprise Me” button is back at the helm and has steered us right smack into an alien invasion! As the first title developed by Jumpship (a collaboration between Chris Olsen and Playdead's Dino Patti), this dialogue-free adventure game certainly shares some DNA with the critically-successful titles Limbo and Inside. The gameplay here consists of a combination of puzzle-solving and evading abduction, while the plot focuses on a man's journey to reunite his family in the aftermath of an alien invasion. It certainly sounds compelling, but the real test will be how it plays in practice. Thankfully our hosts are up to the challenge!
