This year marks the tenth anniversary of Savoy, Illinois' Triptych Brewing and their creative, artfully-crafted brews, and we're toasting to them with four of their barrel-aged beers. We went into this one expecting quality beers, but the results far exceed what we could've imagined - and should have every Chicago big beer lover driving south for these specialty releases. Plus we're reaching alcohol-by-volume heights we hardly ever see, so we're soaring by rankings time. Also, Craig's only green t-shirt gets him into trouble, Ryan reaps what he sows re:BCBS, and we get a little sad thinking about a lonely whale. Beers Reviewed Batch 969 [collaboration w/ Foreign Exchange] (Barleywine aged in Amburana and bourbon barrels) AJ's Stout Vol. 2 [2022] (Blended barrel-aged imperial stout) Dearest Anna (Barrel-aged imperial stout w/ Intelligentsia coffee and Tahitian vanilla) 52.5 Hz (Bourbon barrel-aged stout w/ pistachios and Ugandan vanilla beans)
On today's episode, the hype train has left the station! Chicagoans are celebrating the arrival of QB1 Justin Fields and his record-breaking game. We give our reactions to the current state of the Bears and discuss why winning doesn't really matter the rest of the way as long as Fields continues to put up the numbers. Later, we debate where the Chicago Bulls stack up in the East and if they have what it takes to compete for a title. Does the health of Lonzo and the improved play of Patrick Williams get them there? Finally, Evan gives his week 10 waiver wire advice and Dan gives his picks for your weekend NFL parlays! Cruising Down I57 with my beef jerky in hand I shot down to Savoy, IL to document a pretty awesome Collaboration brew day with Triptych Brewing and Windmill Brewing. I was joined by Anthony Benjamin, brewer and managing partner of Triptych Brewing, along with Mike G. and Justin V. from Windmill Brewing. They brewed up a Horchata style Milkshake IPA with tons of Silk Almond milk, vanilla and a little bit of lactose. It was really awesome to see these guys interact and actively learn while drinking and having a little fun as well.
The Fox Pub in Peoria celebrated its 6th annual brewfest where Ryan and Evan headed to enjoy some brews on a cool and rainy midwest day. We ran down the list of some of our favorites of the day including beers from Lil' Beaver Brewery, Wake Brewing, Triptych Brewing, Pollyanna Brewing Company, and Bent River Brewing Co. Nick of Bearded Owl Brewing shared some of his highlights of the day and we also spoke with Matt Rixner who continues his pursuit to bringing a great draft beer festival to Peoria. It was a fun and loud time (pardon the background noise, but we were at a festival!!) with many great local and regional brews and fantastic people to enjoy them with, cheers!!
I travelled way on down past Champaign, IL to visit Triptych Brewing for their. Sausage (And Beer) Party. But before the party I got to spend 2+ hours with Anthony, Luke, and Mike from Triptych and find out a little bit about their story. We honestly could have gone 4 hours if need be, but the sausages were calling. What a great group making some outstanding beer.
