In 1818, Army veteran John Cleves Symmes Jr. declared that the earth was hollow and proposed to lead an expedition to its interior. He promoted the theory in lectures and even won support on Capitol Hill. In this week's episode of the Futility Closet podcast we'll describe Symmes' strange project and its surprising consequences. We'll also revisit age fraud in sports and puzzle over a curious customer. Intro: Grazing cattle align their bodies with magnetic north. The Conrad Cantzen Shoe Fund buys footwear for actors. Hey Everyone! On today's episode, Josh sits down to discuss implementing conditioning into the clinic. This can be tough to do depending on your setting and the time you have with each patient, but Josh lays out 4 strategies for you to try out with your patients. Our job is to maintain or even IMPROVE our patient's fitness during their time with us, so that means getting their heart rate up and possible making them sweat if we can! "The best way to rehab a torn pec is to avoid getting one in the first place" -- Donnie Thompson. We love this advice from our good friend (and BFP veteran) Super D because it emphasizes the importance of warming up and preparing for the task ahead (and the importance of good programming!). But sometimes these things happen. And if you find yourself in this boat or you're working with a patient who has a pec issue, this episode is full of some great advice and first hand experience on what to look for and what to do to get you back under the bar.
