"Whenever and wherever I travel, I try to meet up with local musicians so that we might play together. In this way, I have played with musicians in Africa, India, China and elsewhere. I have not been so much concerned with learning the local or national modes of playing, as in trying to propose and adapt my own modes and methods to what's being played locally, there and then. This tends to create a musical moment that is joyfully hybrid; a lively cultural fusion. And this was more or less my approach in playing with this recording of a Tibetan Opera. Tibetan Opera generally consists of three parts: an introductory ritual dance (Dun), a main story (Xiong), and a concluding section (Zaxi). My approach here was to suggest a potential Tibetan rock opera, beginning with an opening ritual dance that I have titled Dun On The Run." Nineveh was one of the great cities of ancient Mesopotamia. Situated on the eastern bank of the River Tigris, it rivalled cities like Babylon and Persepolis as the capital of the great Assyrian Empire and the seat of power for towering figures like Sennacherib and Ashurbanipal. In today's episode of The Ancients, Tristan Hughes is joined by Dr. Paul Collins to tell the story of Nineveh's history from start to end. Many of our shows deal with complex legislative and veterinary issues, so every once in a while we like to meet up with people on the ground, deep in day-to-day work with animals. This is one of those episodes. In it, we talk to: Paul Collins, the Wisconsin state director for Animal Wellness Action. In his free time, he volunteers at a local rescue sanctuary, where he has befriended emus and become a master of cleaning goat stalls. Alecia Torres, the operations director at Heartland Farm Sanctuary in Wisconsin. Heartland provides specialized care to rescued farm animals, offers empathy-based humane education programs and provides experiential therapy for young people in partnership with our animals to create a mutually supportive space for healing. Robin Herman, the head of Lucky Dog Retreat Rescue, a non-profit offshoot of a dog daycare she once owned and operated. Robin, through Lucky Dog and her own, private work, has rescued almost 1,400 dogs and placed them in new, loving homes. She tells us about her upcoming Parvo Prevention Project in Indianapolis, where she and other volunteers will try to vaccinate up to 500 or more dogs against the deadly virus. The message is the same: We rescue animals, but at the same time, they rescue us. Peter Case in conversation with David Eastaugh https://petercase.com/ Case was born in Buffalo, New York. He wrote his first song "Stay Away," in 1965, at the age of eleven. A veteran of several rock bands and the local bar scene as a teenager, Case dropped out of high school when he was fifteen (he would later earn a GED), and after several years of traveling arrived in 1973 in San Francisco, where he performed as a street musician. During this period a documentary about the local music scene, Nightshift, directed by Bert Deivert, captured the young Case on film. In 1976, he teamed up with Jack Lee and Paul Collins to form the early punk-era band The Nerves in San Francisco. The group's 1976 EP track, "Hanging on the Telephone", was later recorded by Blondie.

Submission guidelines can be found at http://www.TallTaleTV.com ---- About Tall Tale TV ---- Hi there! My name is Chris Herron and I'm an audiobook narrator. In 2015, I suffered from poor Type 1 diabetes control which lead me to become legally blind for almost a year. The doctors didn't give me much hope, predicting an 80% chance that I would never see again. But I refused to give up and changed my lifestyle drastically. Through sheer willpower (and an amazing eye surgeon) I beat the odds and regained my vision. During that difficult time, I couldn't read or write, which was devastating as they had always been a source of comfort for me since childhood. However, my wife took me to the local library where she read out the titles of audiobooks to me. I selected some of my favorite books, such as the Disc World series, Name of the Wind, Harry Potter, and more, and the audiobooks brought these stories to life in a way I had never experienced before. They helped me through the darkest period of my life and I fell in love with audiobooks. Once I regained my vision, I decided to pursue a career as an audiobook narrator instead of a writer. That's why I created Tall Tale TV, to support aspiring authors in the writing communities that I had grown to love before my ordeal. My goal was to help them promote their work by providing a promotional audio short story that showcases their writing skills to readers. They say the strongest form of advertising is word of mouth, so I offer a platform for readers to share these videos and help spread the word about these talented writers. Please consider sharing these stories with your friends and family to support these amazing authors. The first in a new project on The Innovation Show. Hire For Neurosignature, Train for Skill: The Brain is Like a Waterbed "Autists are not just square pegs in the round hole of society. The real problem isn't the challenge of fitting them in, it's that in trying to do so we risk destroying their unique shape." — Paul Collins The parents of an autistic young man approached a local convenience store, hoping to secure a job for their son. The retail chain manager, hesitant due to his team's lack of experience with special needs, said he would give the kid a chance. On his inaugural day, the manager tasked the young man with organizing food items by their expiration dates on a single shelf. He figured it would take him at least the whole day. To the manager's astonishment, the young man had meticulously arranged every shelf in the store in just three hours. This young man, perceived as disabled, viewed sorting produce by date as a delightful puzzle. His neurodiversity brought joy to the task and put him in a flow state. But the story doesn't end there. Harnessing the youngster's unique ability, the retailer employed him to travel between stores, solving his 'puzzles' and sorting food items. This valuable skill saved the retailer a significant amount of wastage and helped them to achieve their sustainability goals. Today, this young man earns so much that his father left his previous job to chauffeur his son (who cannot drive) around the country, solving puzzles for the retail chain. “We all have a calling. Each one of us has a role to play on this planet. When we play the instrument that is meant for us in the orchestra of life, we will be in a constant state of bliss” - Joe Vitale The moral of the story? Everyone has a unique place if the world gives them a chance. Unfortunately, a story like this is scarce. The unfortunate reality was recognised best by one of the great geniuses of our times, Albert Einstein, who said, “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by Its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid”. Because the work system is set up for efficiency, it caters for the majority. It is a drain on resources to cater to everyone. It is even more challenging to interview "everyone", so we hire for homogeneity. And somewhat understandably, as human resources, people officers and hiring executives are already stretched to the maximum. Companies are dealing with a tumultuous business environment. They are preoccupied with quenching multiple fires: AI, digitalisation, remote work, supply chain volatility, business model shifts, data, GDPR, inflation, housing crises, pandemics and even wars. The modern workplace is structured like a fine-cut diamond—rigid, linear, and sparkling with hierarchy. This construct, drawn from centuries of church and military organisation, may bring a semblance of order, but it simultaneously smothers the potential of those who don't fit the mould. Neurodiverse individuals can struggle in these traditional environments. Executives often overlook them (or ignore them outright) due to their distinctive ways of processing information, unique patterns of thought and behaviour, and distinctive communication styles. To ensure that these square pegs aren't shoehorned into round holes, we need to rethink the design of our workplaces. We must build environments that foster neurodiversity rather than suppress it. The modern workplace is more like a network of networks, teams of teams, nuanced and complex. The brain works similarly; the brain is more about connection than calculation. Understanding this can help executives update the workplace. Imagine a world where everyone got to use their talents and didn't have to shore up their weaknesses and, in many cases, disguise those weaknesses. That is the focus of this week's Thursday Thought. The Brain is like a Waterbed Imagine the brain as a waterbed. When one area...
November 6, 1980. Baltimore, Maryland. Nancy Snow, a 44-year old congressional fundraiser with the Republican National Committee, is picked up from a hotel by Paul Collins, the house-sitter at her apartment in Annapolis. Nancy soon vanishes without a trace, but Collins claims that she left on an impromptu trip to Florida with a man named “Captain Jay”, so she could spend several weeks crewing his yacht during a sailing trip through the Caribbean. However, Nancy's family has a hard time believing this, particularly after discovering that Collins used her chequebook after she disappeared, but there is no conclusive evidence to prove he was responsible for her disappearance. Did Nancy Snow come to harm after leaving on a trip with the mysterious Captain Jay? Or did Paul Snow completely fabricate this entire story? On this week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we explore a frustrating missing persons case which has remained unsolved for over four decades. If you have any information about this case, please contact the Anne Arundel County State's Attorney's Office at (410) 222-1740.
