One of the reasons I love hosting this show is simple — it allows me to meet fascinating people, hear their stories, and learn from their experiences without traveling the world to do it. Technology gives us access to brilliant minds we'd never cross paths with otherwise. Today's guest is Dr. Lance Mortlock — a professor, managing partner at EY, bestselling author, mountaineer, and proud husband and dad. But what stood out most wasn't the résumé… it was the journey behind it.

In this episode of The Russell Brunson Show, I sit down with Oren Klaff, author of Pitch Anything and one of the most fascinating minds in the world of high stakes dealmaking.  Before we even got into the frameworks, Oren told the wild story of how he bought and built a full scale Apollo spacecraft replica for his office and why it instantly changed the way people engage with him. From there, we dug into the psychology that drives billion dollar negotiations, why most entrepreneurs lose deals before they ever begin, and how status, power, and certainty shape every meaningful business interaction.  If you have ever felt intimidated pitching someone with more money, more experience, or more authority, this conversation is going to flip the way you see negotiations forever. Key Highlights: ◼️Why status determines everything in a negotiation and why lowering the other side's status is often more effective than raising your own ◼️The small behaviors that instantly reveal whether someone is serious and how to call them out without losing the deal ◼️The archetypes you will face in every big deal including the final boss, the consigliere, the analyst, and the law firm ◼️How to raise stakes so decisions happen now instead of drifting into endless follow up ◼️The simple closing question Oren uses that bypasses pressure and gets people to reveal what they actually want This conversation is a masterclass in understanding power, status, and human behavior inside real negotiations. Oren is operating in a world where he is pitching billion dollar funds, founders, and private equity groups, yet every principle applies to anyone selling, pitching, or persuading at any level.  Once you see how people behave when they feel powerful and how quickly everything shifts when you level the status field, you will never approach a deal the same way again. On a lovely fall afternoon in October, Linda drove up to possibly one of the most charming spots in Quebec, just off-island of Montreal —Hudson, on the unceded territory of the Kanien'keha:ka. Hudson has much to commend to it, but, in this instance, it was StoryFest, the annual literary program hosted through the Greenwood Centre that invites writers to come and speak to audiences there and that extends back to 2002 (yes, it's been evolving over twenty years).Linda drove up to Hudson to interview the journalist, Brian Stewart, about his memoir, On the Ground: My Life as a Foreign Correspondent -- a perfect book for this year's theme, Getting Lit Goes Global. Stewart was, for decades, one of Canada's most prominent television journalists, acclaimed for his foreign coverage for both CBC's The National and The Journal. Born in Montreal (welcome back, Brian!), and originally a newspaper reporter, he went on to become foreign correspondent for CBC in London and for NBC in Frankfurt. He worked in 10 war zones, hosted the CBC foreign affairs show Worldview, and interviewed many of the historic figures of his time. In this interview and in his book, Stewart speaks of the urgency of having journalists on the ground to bear witness to what is happening across the globe and of having journalists as moral witnesses, reminding audiences of the costs globally of famine and war and environmental disaster, of the need for greater political accountability. With thanks to StoryFest organizers, Julie Gedeon and Sandy Racicot, to Larry Cool for recording sound, and to Jason C. for sound production. Linda Morra, Producer/Host; Maia Harris, Associate Producer; and Raphael Krux, Music.Just a reminder that voting opens soon for this year's GLWL prize for best episode or author. In a world drowning in data, is the 'big creative idea' for a holiday campaign an endangered species, or is it more critical than ever? Agility requires not just moving fast, but moving with confidence. It's the ability to validate creative instincts with real-world data, ensuring that your biggest bets are also your smartest ones. Today, we're going to talk about the high-stakes world of holiday advertising and the delicate balance between creative magic and data-driven methodology. We're going to talk about one such campaign for John Lewis, a popular British Department store whose holiday ads are a cultural event in the UK, where the stakes can be high. And they aren't alone. The holiday season is the equivalent of the Super Bowl for many brands, where a single campaign can define the entire year. Yet, for every heartwarming success story, there are countless others that miss the mark. If 87% of profits come from 5% of gamblers, the game isn't fair. It's engineered. In this episode of BHT Bytes, hosts Sharlee Dixon and Peter Fenger take a compelling look at the rapid rise of sports betting and how it's transforming our culture. Everywhere we turn, our phones, TVs, social feeds, even college campuses, gambling has become woven into the sports experience. But beneath the excitement and big-win promises lies a growing set of consequences that few are talking about. Sharlee and Peter trace how the 2018 repeal of PASPA opened the door to a multibillion-dollar industry powered by polished ads, real-time data, and instant-access betting apps. They discuss the psychological hooks, VIP tactics, and predatory strategies that keep people wagering, even when it's no longer fun. With addiction rates climbing, athletes facing new risks, and young people being pulled into betting earlier than ever, this episode asks an urgent question: What happens when an entire generation grows up seeing gambling as just part of the game? This is a grounded, eye-opening conversation about the line between entertainment and harm, and why recognizing the darker side of sports betting has never been more important.

BT and Sal unleash a fiery debate over Sal's "home run blueprint" for the Mets' perfect offseason, which centers on trading for ace Tarik Skubal, signing a frontline starter like Ranger Suarez (while Sal dismisses Dylan Cease as "just another dude"), and re-signing Pete Alonso—especially since he's open to DH. The discussion heats up as they clash over the realism of acquiring Skubal and the $400 million contract that would follow. Sal pushes for a big bat like Bellinger, Tucker, or Bregman to complete the lineup, leading to a controversial take: is trading Nimmo the better long-term move if it means keeping a DH-capable Alonso and improving the overall team defense? The stakes are high for David Stearns and Steve Cohen to execute a massive overhaul.

Back in January, Captura CEO Steve Oldham was sitting in a conference room in Hawaii, entertaining reps from the company's first potential customer. What the customer didn't know was that Captura's ocean-based carbon removal pilot –the whole reason for the visit – still wasn't working. The stakes were high. Steve's team needed to prove they could pull off a major pilot under intense time crunch — amid broader pressure on the carbon removal sector to show it can scale reliably and fast. So what did it take to install the pilot and win over a first customer? In this episode, host Lara Pierpoint talks with Steve about Captura's rapid scale-up from a desktop prototype to a 1,000-ton pilot. They also discuss the science behind removing CO₂ from ocean water, and the difficult decisions required to keep the company on track — including walking away from a premier industrial site and racing to rebuild the project half a world away. The past few days have been a whirlwind in the legal world as former President Donald Trump's latest court battles have landed squarely before the highest bench in the country. The Supreme Court building in Washington, D.C. was buzzing this week, especially as Wednesday, November 5, saw arguments in the consolidated cases that could set historic legal precedents. The cases, officially titled Donald J. Trump, President of the United States, et al. versus V.O.S. Selections, Inc., and related parties, had been expedited by a grant of certiorari back in early September, meaning both sides and a slew of amici had scrambled for weeks to submit arguments and briefs. The tension was evident as Solicitor General D. John Sauer argued on behalf of the federal government, Neal K. Katyal represented the private parties, and Oregon's Solicitor General Benjamin N. Gutman stood for the states. These cases, consolidated for efficiency and clarity, revolve around the Trump administration's executive actions that have been under fierce challenge from nonprofits, state governments, and private organizations. Issues range from administrative suspensions—like the litigation over Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits this very month—to broader questions about the executive's authority under statutes such as the Alien Enemies Act. The Lawfare Litigation Tracker, which has grown to include nearly 300 active cases challenging Trump policies and executive orders, reflects just how sprawling and consequential these battles have become.Arguments this Wednesday were intense. According to the Supreme Court docket, all parties were granted a single hour to distill their arguments, but each minute brought sharp questioning from the justices about the limits of presidential power, the scope of agency discretion, and how far the administration could go in reinterpreting statutory mandates. With groups like Advancing American Freedom weighing in as amici and a deluge of amicus briefs flooding the docket, it's clear the stakes are high—not just for Trump but for the future contours of federal power.Litigants and observers alike know that with so many related suits, each Supreme Court argument can impact not only this session's headline-making decisions but also dozens of lower court cases in the months to come. The courtroom drama unfolded against the broader backdrop of political campaigns and media scrutiny, reminding everyone that legal questions surrounding Donald Trump remain deeply interwoven with the nation's political fabric. Thanks for tuning in to this week's breakdown on Trump's latest court trials.
