Things Discussed: Bryce Spring Review: Underwood actually made some JJ throws. Players who stood out on film review: Deyvid Palepale, more impressed with Jalen Hoffman, Avery Gach (pronounced "Gatch") had lots of +2s and –2s, Jordan Young is always around the ball, made the 4th & 1 stuff. OL thoughts by position: RT & RG: Sprague and Efobi were moving people—impressive when they do it Benny, not so much Bobby Kanka. Efobi is the high ceiling/high floor option, could be Hattar or Link. Gach was getting shoved backwards by Chibi Anwunah, who might be good. Think the battle in fall is Efobi the ceiling, Hattar the floor, Link the wild card. LT: ew. When Sam said Michigan should go in the portal for a tackle in spring that wasn't a hopeful statement, and that's how it worked out. Link is a D+, Babalola needs a redshirt, Brady Norton isn't going to happen, period. Ty Haywood, Blake Frazier might compete. Frazier was supposed to a 2-year build and it's been one year, so not expecting that yet. The way Gentry played out last year might have cost them their best option. C: Crippen has the job. Guarnera looked good but had some –2s in there. Strayhorn looked big and athletic but completely lost—at one point he stops mid-pull. WR: McCulley looked good on his one catch, a lot of opportunities to turn around and make a play when they didn't, think Goodwin is a fine 4th or 5th receiver. Semaj has been open, needs QBs to hit him. Haven't seen these guys with good quarterbacking yet so who knows: Bell, Moore, Morgan, Marsh—they could all be good and we wouldn't know yet. QB: We want to get Underwood running more—that 3rd read should be running not throwing a contested ball. RPOs: We're gonna see a lot more of them this year under Chip Lindsey, which means we'll see more man coverage, which then gets back to the receivers and who can win 1-on-1. CB: The flipside is JoJo Edmond was the guy in coverage on a lot of those passes, looks hard to beat, gave up the edge on the big Haynes run. Sug Hill? Sam says without saying that they want to keep him motivated to do things that aren't just his talent. DT and LB are STACKED. Will be very deep and strong this year and are set next year with Palepale and maybe Anwunah. Yaxel: Don't get your hopes up; pretty much every mock draft has him 35-38 and those are guaranteed contract positions so we think there's going to be an NBA team willing to put them on their roster next year. Hockey: Fascinating offseason as Michigan is trying to poach a goalie and most of their new top-six, including the #1 overall pick next year, from Canadian Juniors. Won't know until their playoff ends.
Things Discussed: Signing Day: Got the most talent on offense since…1998? Down the list: OL: Two of the highest-ranked OTs in the history of the program, Gach was a Priority 1 for the program, Strayhorn is a center. RB: Jasper Parker the sites just missed; poorer man's Adrian Peterson. M thinks DJ is healthy. WR: Marsh was a big pull vs heavy hitters, Year 1 player. Browder needs development but Junior Hemingway upside. Washington is tall and can move well. TE: Owens is a Bredeson, really hurts that they missed on Olesh. DL: We love the heavy-handed build-a-bears that Esposito recruits. Remember his WMU guys? Moten and Patterson are going to be those guys too. Lou is convinced Benny Patterson is the guy. Kanka is a Godin. Marshall was a Priority and a big win. Can't expect them to get the scouting coup of the century with Graham and Grant every year but they can scout and now they can win the guys they scouted. Basketball: Every guy is good with a tradeoff, and that tradeoff is turnovers, e.g. look at the defense that Roddy Gayle (and Pippen) played on Ace Bailey. Rutgers: We got a break by missing Harper, who just shredded Illinois. Oregon game: the mental errors are baked in at this point, like they're not going to score at the rim as well as you want them to. Also baked in is the fact that they switch everything and play drop coverage, so your Shelstad types who make 50%+ of other twos after attacking a Goldin or Wolf are going to score. Sugarplum vision of a top-3 seed and winning the B10 is probably gone. All but one of their remaining games (all but Rutgers at home) are Kenpom A (top-50) tier, IE Q1 opportunities.

Os cionn 200 gnóthas bia dúnta ó thús na bliana – tuarascáil nua. Over 200 restaurants, cafes and other food businesses have closed in the State since the start of the year, says a new report commissioned by the Irish Restaurant Association. Tá os cionn 200 bialann, caife agus gnóthas eile bia dúnta sa Stát ó thus na bliana, a deirtear i dtuarascáil nua a choimisiúnaigh Cumann Bhialanna na hÉireann. The report claims that the country's economy could lose up to €288 million every year as a result of these businesses going out of business. Maítear sa tuarascáil go bhféadfadh geilleagar na tíre suas le €288 milliún a chailleadh gach bliain de bharr na gnóthais sin a bheith imithe i mbá. Every time a food business closes, the State loses up to €1.36 million a year when everything is taken into account, according to the report. Gach uair a dhúnann gnóthas bia, cailleann an Stát suas €1.36 milliún sa bhliain nuair a chuirtear gach rud san áireamh, de réir na tuarascála. In that one, it is said, 22 people lose their job on average. Ina cheann sin, a deirtear, cailleann 22 duine a bpost ar an meán. According to the analysis carried out by researchers, €576,554 in gross wages and €115,310 in tax are lost in each case on average. De réir na hanailíse a rinne lucht taighde, cailltear €576,554 in ollphá agus €115,310 i gcáin i ngach cás ar an meán. On top of that, it is said, €105,000 is lost in value added tax, €11,874 in commercial rates and €4,583 in water charges. Ar a mhuin sin, a deirtear, cailltear €105,000 i gcáin bhreisluacha, €11,874 i rátaí tráchtála agus €4,583 i dtáillí uisce. Around €440,000 in social welfare payments will also have to be paid to the former employees if they do not find another job in the meantime. Caithfear thart ar €440,000 in íocaíochtaí leasa shóisialta a íoc leis na hiarfhostaithe freisin mura bhfaighidh siad post eile idir dhá linn. In relation to that aspect of the story, the report also claims that civil servants in Dublin do not understand that it is not so easy to find another job outside the capital. I dtaca leis an ngné sin den scéal de, maítear sa tuarascáil chomh maith nach dtuigeann státseirbhísigh i mBaile Átha Cliath nach bhfuil sé chomh héasca sin post eile a fháil taobh amuigh den phríomhchathair. The Irish Restaurant Association is petitioning the Government to come to the aid of food businesses and lower value added tax to 9% again. Tá Cumann Bhialanna na hÉireann ag achainí ar an Rialtas teacht i gcabhair ar ghnóthais bhia agus cáin bhreisluacha a ísilú go dtí 9 faoin gcéad arís. However, according to the Department of Finance, that would cost the State €545 million a year. Dar leis an Roinn Airgeadais, áfach, go gcosnódh sé sin €545 milliún sa bhliain ar an Stát. On the contrary, the association believes that the Department of Finance's saving approach makes no sense when everything is lost when a food business closes. Os a choinne sin, creideann an cumann nach bhfuil aon chiall le dearacadh coigilteach sin na Roinne Airgeadais nuair a chuirtear san áireamh gach rud a chailltear nuair a dhúnann gnóthas bia. The association is also unhappy with certain policies that have been introduced or are yet to be introduced by the Government regarding workers' rights. Tá an cumann míshásta freisin le beartais áirithe atá tugtha isteach nó fós le tabhairt isteach ag an Rialtas maidir le cearta oibrithe. The newly elected Taoiseach Simon Harris has said that he is sympathetic to business people in that respect and it is understood that he intends to postpone changes to sick pay given the difficulty they are having to keep their businesses going . Tá sé ráite ag an Taoiseach nuathofa Simon Harris go bhfuil sé báúil le lucht gnó sa mhéid sin ...

Commercial: CU of GA – ESOG STORY 1: Alpharetta Woman Charged After Fatal Crash Hailey Williamson, a 20-year-old woman from Alpharetta, has been arrested in connection with a crash that resulted in the death of a motorcycle rider. She is charged with second-degree vehicular homicide and failure to yield right of way. The charges are misdemeanors. According to an arrest warrant filed by the Holly Springs Police Department, the crash occurred when Williamson illegally turned left from Sixes Road eastbound, failing to yield to traffic, and collided with a motorcycle. The motorcycle rider, Lester Berry, aged 63, from Holly Springs, sustained fatal injuries in the collision. Williamson was arrested and booked into the Cherokee County jail, but she was released on a $2,211 bond the following day. STORY 2: U.S. Senate Panel Hears Tragic Stories From Georgia's Foster Care System A U.S. Senate subcommittee, chaired by Sen. Jon Ossoff of Georgia, is conducting a bipartisan investigation into the treatment of foster children in the United States, including a review of audits by the Georgia Division of Family & Children Services (DFCS). The investigation revealed that DFCS failed to address risks and safety concerns in 84% of cases brought to its attention. The subcommittee heard testimony from a mother, Rachel Aldridge, whose two-year-old daughter, Brooklyn, died in foster care. Another witness, Mon'a Houston, shared her five-year experience in foster care, detailing overmedication, restraints, and isolation. The lawsuit alleges that Meta's practices violate state consumer protection laws and the federal Children's Online Privacy Protection Act and have contributed to a youth mental health crisis. Based on testimony from former Meta employees, the complaint claims the platforms' algorithms push users into harmful behavior. The lawsuit seeks injunctive and monetary relief to address the harms caused by the platforms. Meta expressed disappointment in the states for taking them to court and noted their commitment to providing safe online experiences for teens. Méadú gach bliain ar amfhreagartha otharcharr ó bhí 2019 ann. Emergency ambulance responses in life-threatening situations have increased every year since 2019, according to new figures published by the National Ambulance Service. Tá méadú tagtha gach bliain ó bhí 2019 ann ar amfhreagartha otharcharr i gcásanna ina bhfuil an t-othar i mbaol báis, de réir figiúirí nua atá foilsithe ag an tSeirbhís Náisiúnta Otharcharr. Last year, patients in Category 1 - that is, patients at risk of death - waited, on average, for 26 minutes for an ambulance. Anuraidh, bhí othair i gCatagóir 1 - is é sin, othair atá i mbaol báis - ag fanacht, ar an meán, ar feadh 26 noiméad ar otharcharr. In the west of the country last year, one person in that category waited for 22 hours. In iarthar na tíre anuraidh, bhí duine amháin sa gcatagóir sin ag fanacht ar feadh 22 uair. And at the beginning of 2023, someone in the south of the country was waiting thirteen hours. Agus ag tús 2023, bhí duine i ndeisceart na tíre ag fanacht trí huaire déag. Newly published figures show that 890 people died last year while waiting for an ambulance - 294 in Leinster; 306 people in the south of the country and 290 people in the west of the country. Léirítear sna figiúirí nuafhoilsithe go bhfuair 890 duine bás anuraidh le linn dóibh a bheith ag fanacht ar otharcharr - 294 duine i gCúige Laighean; 306 duine i ndeisceart na tíre agus 290 duine in iarthar na tíre. Last year, in the case of 34% of cases, it took more than an hour before the patient was transferred into the care of the hospital from the ambulance, due to overcrowding in the hospitals. Anuraidh, i gcás 34 faoin gcéad de chásanna, ghlac sé breis agus uair a chloig sula raibh an t-othar aistrithe isteach faoi chúram an ospidéil ón lucht otharcharr, de bharr róphlódaithe sna hospidéil. Pedar Toiblin, leader of Auntú, received these figures about parliamentary issues. Fuair Peadar Toiblín, ceannaire Aontú, na figiúirí seo faoi cheisteanna parlaiminte. In response to the questions put to them, the National Ambulance Service - which is under the command of the Health Service Executive - said that they have 280 ambulances in their fleet. Mar fhreagra ar na ceisteanna a cuireadh faoina bráid dúirt an tSeirbhís Náisiúnta Otharcharr - atá faoi cheannasaíocht Fheidhmeannacht na Seirbhíse Sláinte - go bhfuil 280 otharcharr sa bhflít acu. They said that so far this year, 72% of ambulances have cleared out of their hospitals within an hour of landing with a patient on board. Dúirt siad gur go dtí seo i mbliana, go bhfuil 72 faoin gcéad d'otharchairr glanta amach óna hospidéil taobh istigh d'uair a chloig dóibh a bheith tuirlingthe le hothar ar bord. In the west of the country last year, one person in that category waited 22 hours for an ambulance In iarthar na tíre anuraidh, bhí duine amháin sa gcatagóir sin ag fanacht ar feadh 22 uair ar otharcharr

Wendy Voelker (formerly known as Wendy Glasser but we don't talk about that anymore) worked for WGY from 1999-2004 and worked with many Air Personalities during her time. She shares great stories of being Producer for Don Weeks, and discusses the many celebrities she encountered, including a woman who went on to become a major celebrity on her own named Rachael Ray.Justin Fiet logged in nearly 15 years at WGY, and has lots of experiences to share. His first Producer gig was with J.R. Gach, but he also steered the ship for people like Scotto, Andrew Wilkow, Don Weeks, Chuck Custer and Kelly Lynch.
Zapraszamy na rozmowę z dr Josephine Dlugopolski-Gach, która wystąpi na konferencji „NEXT – Talks for the Future Generations” adresowanej do polonijnej młodzieży.
Ron "Buzz" Brindle was Program Director of WGY starting in the late 1980's, after a long career that included stops at MTV in the early days (where he helped Albany resident Martha Quinn get a job as one of the original VJ's). Buzz was part of the team at WGY as the station started to transition to a News/Talk format, in fact it was Buzz who lobbied to bring a new Talk Show Host to the Capital Region, by the name of Rush Limbaugh.Tom Mailey has had a long career in broadcasting, and not just at WGY. His start here was in the mid 1980's when he auditioned for (and became the host of) "The Big Money Movie" on WRGB, which gave him the chance to do a number of fill in shifts on WGY, including for Don Weeks on the WGY Morning Show, and also on Joe Gallagher's show. Tom later used his time as an Air Personality and News Anchor to become the face and voice of Stewart's.Tred Hulse has frankly done it all. The Capital Region first met him from his ten years of the Morning Show on sister station 99.5 The River in the 1990's. From there he would fill in on WGY for J.R. Gach, Don Weeks, Chuck Custer and Joe Gallagher. Eventually he hosted his own Sports Talk Show on Fox Sports 980.
Jaime Roberts has been in broadcasting since the mid 1980s, mostly as a Disc Jockey (she currently hosts the Morning Show on 98.3 WTRY) but has been part of WGY's history. On WGY she has filled in for talk hosts such as J.R. Gach and she also hosted her own weekend talk show.Jaime always lends a hand during the WGY Cares for Kids Radiothon as well. Her highlight on WGY was September 11th, 2001 when she and WTRY Co-host Ric Mitchell hosted a broadcast simulcast on all of our radio stations to bring Capital Region listeners up to date on the events of that tragic day.

It's safe to say, one of the most controversial personalities in WGY's history was afternoon host J.R. Gach. While many people loved him, he was considered a "loose cannon." According to his wife at the time Suzie, J.R. suffered from multiple demons in his life, some he was born with, some he created. Suzie rips off the bandage to explain who J.R. was. We also include a sample of one of J.R.'s shows at WGY to give a sample of what his show was all about from 1999-2002 at the 45-minute mark of this episode. J.R. Gach passed away in 2015.
