Anywhere but Here is a general interest podcast that has been described as \"a real yorkie podcast\" by \'A Random Listener\' we aren\'t really sure what that means, but it sounds good. We cover topics ranging from live music to religion and everything in between, including beached sea monsters... R…
It's the end of an era and so on brand. Rather than wait until a big round number, or until our 10th anniversary in January, this is the last episode of the Anywhere But Here podcast. Ant and Tom explain all the reasons that have gone into this decision on the episode, but rest-assured that this is by mutual consent and is a decision that came about quickly and with no bad blood. In fact, this is a decision that will probably make our friendship better. On our way out of the door we talk about all the movies and TV we've been watching in the last few month, just like normal, so it's not all bad news! We've had a blast over the last nine and a half years and we sincerely thank each and every person that has listened, befriended us, sent us messages and especially become Supporters or Patreons. We may be back here and there when the mood takes us, so stay subscribed just in case. So, for one last time: Enjoy, and thank you! Tom has been a very busy boy recently, playing rock-star with Sham69 and being an absolute workhorse with his writing so, in this episode, Ant is joined by Eric, a work colleague of his, to talk messed up science experiments and general geekery. San Diego Comic-Con happened recently so they discuss some of the news that came out of there, including Marvel's huge panel where they basically laid out the whole of Phase 5 of their cinematic universe. Eric is also a fan of Podcasts, thankfully, and gives a couple of recommendations. Enjoy! Ant and Tom give their opinion on Marvel's latest outing, Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Is Marvel fatigue finally kicking in, or are they still knocking it out of the park? You might be surprised by our thoughts... we were. We were having a few technical issues when recording this one, so it needed a bit of editing. Hopefully, it's not too much of an issue. Ant and Tom are back together and have seen a film! Well... actually, Tom hasn't seen it, so he roped in long-time friend and friend of the show Laurie to join them on this spoilercast on the fourth(?) instalment in The Matrix franchise. As usual, these are spoilercasts and as such we will be spoiling various elements of the films plot, characters and cameos. So, if you want to see the film without knowing anything about it and haven't yet got round to it , go and watch it first - preferably at the cinema - then come back. On this episode of the Anywhere But Here podcast Tom and Ant catch up on what they've been doing in the last two weeks including a lot of TV watching for Tom and joining a Dungeons and Dragons group for Ant. They discuss the TV Shows they've been watching and vaguely talking around the new Dr Strange In The Multiverse of Madness film because Ant hasn't seen it yet. (A Spoilercast will be recorded and put on Patreon this week.) The Amber Heard vs Johnny Depp Trial was also discussed, but mainly from the point of view from how it's been represented on social media. Who should we believe, if either of them? Finally, the Tories got a kicking in the local elections in the UK, which is always a nice thing to see and talk about, but who are their main rivals and will this be the way a general election goes? On this episode of the Anywhere But Here podcast, Tom stages an intervention on Ant who took his family to see Wicked again... for either the seventh or eighth time. But the conversation turns to Ant's meds and the Marvel TV show Moonknight, but eventually gets onto the main topic about how Netflix seems to be shooting itself in the foot, not just from raising prices during a global cost of living crisis, or even locking down the number of people who use each password, but also the fact they're adding adverts. Do people care enough to cancel their subscriptions? Is everyone unhappy about the changes? What's the best streaming service out there? All these questions and more are discussed, but feel free to pile in on the socials. There's some good news too: Sir David Attenborough has been made Champion of Earth, which sounds like something from a comic book. Find out how we think he would have stopped Thanos. Enjoy! On this episode of the Anywhere But Here Podcast Ant and Tom catch up on basically the only two news stories that punctured through their last fortnight: The sad and untimely passing of Foo Fighters Drummer Taylor Hawkins and the kerfuffle at the 94th Oscars ceremony. They wend on a slightly nerdier and lighter note by discussing the film Morbius in a relatively non-spoilery way, the first episode of the latest Marvel TV series, Moonknight, and what else they're looking forward to watching in the next few months. On this episode of the Anywhere But Here Podcast, Ant and Tom try to make sense of the Russia Ukraine conflict and what we can and can't discern from various media outlets or social media, if anything. Before the mayhem, they played a couple of gigs with their old band High Frequency and they recall that weekend and the triumph that was a return to live music after more than a decade. On this episode of the Anywhere But Here podcast, after Ant talks about the ghost story play - 2:22 - he went to see this weekend, Ant and Tom grapple with some fairly heavy topics including the downfall of Joss Whedon, yet another person who was held up on a pedestal who has fallen from grace. Spotify decided to remove all of Neil Young's catalogue from it's streaming service rather than get rid of the Joe Rogan podcast, after the veteran rocker said he didn't want to share a platform with the podcaster due to his alternative points of views over medicine and vaccinations. This also leads to the discussion of the corruption ingrained in both the US medical industry as well as the UK political system. You couldn't make some of this stuff up! Enjoy! Ant and Tom are back for the first time since the beginning of the year and have a lot to discuss, especially the viewing they've done over the holiday period. Tom has played his first gig in 2022 but was at the end of a particularly bad day and was made worse by the organisation of it regarding safety. Ant received his diagnosis of ADHD and we discuss what the future might look like for him. Finally, we get on to the shambles that is the UK government who, seemingly can't avoid a party, or a gathering, or a work meeting with booze and cheese, and what the possible repercussions should be. On this episode of the Anywhere But Here Podcast Ant and Tom sing the praises of Emma Raducanu, the first British female tennis player to win a gran slam tennis final in decades. Her win at the US Open yesterday evening was especially sweet because of the hounding she received from figures like Piers Morgan and John McEnroe after pulling out of Wimbledon this year due to having a panic attack. Ant and Tom also went to a music all-dayer at which Tom also played. They talk about the mixture of excitement and anxiety of being surrounded by so many people in a music venue for the first time and the old bands they enjoyed watching as well as some 'new' bands they discovered. Also, Ant has finished the first year of his course and Tom has become the bassist in Sham 69, you'll have to become a Patreon support to hear the rest of that conversation, so make sure you sign up! On this episode of the Anywhere But Here Podcast Ant talks about his recent holiday and what extra that entails in these COVID times, he's also been to his first of the many rescheduled gigs and returned to the theatre. Tom has been playing gigs for the first time in 17 months and is looking forward to more and took a trip to a crime museum with Jo which was... interesting. Anti-COVID-vaxxers get a good roasting as does the government about their confusing messaging about vaccines and COVID passports on top of the handling of Afghanistan, which has been scary and bewildering to watch over the last few weeks. In this episode of the Anywhere But Here Podcast, Ant and Tom discuss Ant's upcoming holiday abroad and the excitement and anxiety, in general, of attempting to return to some sort of normality. They discuss returning to work spaces, going on holidays, going to gigs etc and whether or not getting excited for these things - that could be cut short or involve a period of quarantining - bearing in mind government advice could change from day-to-day or you could get 'pinged', as Ant has done a couple of times already. The conversation leads on to the Olympics and which sports were watched, which ones were great new additions and which could probably be dropped. Also, they discuss the viability and the thinking behind a couple of the proposed new sports for the Paris Olympics in three years including breakdancing and Esports. Can these be described as sports and do they really embody the ethos of the games? Enjoy! But a surprising amount of time is taken up discussing the recent football European Championships during which England's men got to a final of a major competition for the first time for 55 years. On this episode of the Anywhere But Here Podcast And and Tom try to make sense of the new 'Rule of Six' Coronavirus restrictions that come into play tomorrow as well as how they could be interpreted. What do you think? Tom has seen Tenet at the cinema, Ant has watched the Jordan Peele horror film, Us, so they talk about those as well as the TV shows Cobra Kai and Lovecraft Country. Enjoy!
