If you've ever struggled with starting, finishing, and following through with a creative project, this episode will give you 5 lessons to keep you moving through the creative process ~ start to finish ~ so you can bring your creative ideas to life as a singer, songwriter, artist, and musician.   Whether you're having a hard time starting or having a hard time finishing that creative project that's on your heart ~ I've been there, too, and you're not alone.     As artists, we face resistance at every turn.  We have more ideas than we know what to do with, and sometimes, it just feels so big that we don't know where to begin.  Or there are too many possibilities, we don't feel ready, we keep refining and perfecting our idea into oblivion… and we don't know how to put a bow on it and call it “complete.”   So today, in celebration of ONE WHOLE YEAR of this Podcast (yay!), I'll be sharing with you 5 lessons I learned from following through each and every week to release a new episode into the world.    These are lessons that I'll be applying to album creation ~ recording an album of original songs ~ and lessons that you, too, can apply to that creative project that's on your heart.

I am guessing this will come as no surprise to any of us, but gratitude is not often our default setting. Complaining and grumbling is. Ouch.   With that said (and since we are just coming off the grumbling and complaining of the Israelites in the wilderness after their Exodus from Egypt in our studies), I felt this is an ideal time to lean in here a bit more to have us all consider to true antidote to complaining and grumbling…. Yep… you guessed it. Thankfulness and gratitude. While we can all know this at a head level, it is much more difficult to live, am I right my friends?!   Be sure you listen in to this EXTENDED BONUS episode covering so many other things too… wilderness seasons of life. joy and pain. hard and good. friendship with God. God's presence in it all. Emmanuel. God With Us.   Annnddd be sure you don't miss the end where I talk candidly about the one-year anniversary of my Dad's unexpected death and how I am STILL trying to find a way to fight for thankfulness this Thanksgiving season. One WHOLE YEAR later. To be aggressively grateful for what God has done, is doing, and promised to do in my life… right where I'm at. Right here. Right now. As I grieve the loss of my Dad, and yet, in the same breath, am so truly thankful for the example of a life well lived, one in which he chose to love me and others in a meaningful way. Every day. Clear up to his last day. ❤   Truthfully, I am reminded just how much thankfulness and gratitude for my Dad over the course of this last year has been so valuable in the healing process. Once again holding that tension of both blessing and loss together. Oh my still grieving but also still healing heart. Heartbreak and Thankfulness. Joy and Pain. Hard and Good. Both/And. Only God can do this in our lives am I right my friends?!   Oh goodness. You're really just going to have to listen in as I speak words into the mic to find out more… a message I know I so desperately needed to hear… and maybe you do too right about now my friends?!   ❤ M   For the full episode show notes, please go to https://mfahring.com/once-again-thankful-for-god-with-us-my-dad/

This week we chat with Bob Spoljaric, father of two girls, from Pennsylvania. Bob and his wife have been homeschooling for three years. Bob tells us how he contributes to the homeschooling process- and how important the father's role really is. We discuss the difference between the mental "pull" in a household setting versus the work setting. We also talk about the importance of the time we have here- in the now- and how living life according to milestones like promotions and retirement, which are usually set by a third party, is not the only path there is. The "industrial mousetrap" is all part of what school and society teaches us to seek, what we should value, and what success looks like. But is it really living your best life?Bob really hits home for me when he explains how people develop strong relationships with one another when a common struggle is shared. However, the ability to create a shared struggle is gone when you don't spend enough time together as a family. How many of us can relate to the hustle and bustle of the daily grind? Rushing to work, rushing to school, rushing home, rushing to practice, rushing to get food on the table.. when we live this way, we- and our family members- are creating shared struggles with people outside of the home and not with eachother, which contributes to the breakdown of the family unit. Don't miss this episode! Hilarie joins us today from Idaho; a mom of three who considers herself a classical home educator that delivers with a Charlotte Mason presentation and leaves lots of room for unschoolery. Say that three times fast!!  As a former hairdresser, Hilarie always felt like she wasn't smart "enough" in school. However, when you listen to her speak on homeschooling- she sounds like she has her Master's in education! Proving that you don't need formal education to learn about things you are passionate about. Hilarie explains to us what the classical education is all about and how she uses it, combined with a Charlotte Mason approach. She then allows her children to explore and lead their learning to create a balance of what inspires them, and what is relevant to their learning ability at that moment. Hilarie tells us about the six purposes of schooling- you do not want to miss these! We discuss learning the basics, how she homeschools with multiple children, and why homeschooling parents always overdo it in the beginning.  Keep reading to get links to everything referenced during the episode! Isabel joins us today from her dual residence in Montana and British Columbia. She homeschools her son and also works for 7K- a company that sells gold and silver. Isabel tells us about the differences in homeschooling in various regions and why is it SO IMPORTANT that we teach out children about the fiat system and gold and silver. Fiat money is a government-issued currency that is not backed by a commodity such as gold. Fiat money gives central banks greater control over the economy because they can control how much money is printed. Most modern paper currencies, such as the U.S. dollar, are fiat currencies. Learn why we need to teach out kids the importance of this information and what they will need in the event that the US dollar collapses. Although her son did well in class, he was completely exhausted when he got home and Brooke wasn't getting to spend the quality time with her son as she desired. Brooke discusses the curriculum of the Core Knowledge Foundation with us in detail, explaining how it spirals out into a comprehensive way for children to actually take in the information you are giving them. They even have a "what your ___ grader needs to know" - if you question what your child needs to know by each age!  We discuss government voucher programs, why parents should be the ones to have the tough conversations with their kids, and how even in the best schools- they are STILL A BUSINESS, which gets funding based on test scores.                                   Does homeschooling completely freak you out and overwhelm you? Let's talk mental health this week y'all! But this week, we are going into the mental health of moms. Not that my singleton/married no kid lady friends don't need a mental health check-in too.. this episode just isn't directed at you. { wait your turn ;) } That being said, all women's mental health matters. But in the last year.. literally, it's the beginning of March. So for ONE WHOLE YEAR now, we have had to balance situations and tribulations that no mothers have ever had to balance EVER. Moms are basically multi-faceted, multi-hat wearing goddess (not in a pandemic) we are the boo kissers, booger pickers, best gru voice doers there is.. and if you are an ambitious mom- chancers are you also show up for you to show up for the littles.....then 2020. and we went from multi hat wears .. to multi hat wearing before 8 am. EVERY HOUR. ON. THE. HOUR. and whilst it's a year later, there's virtual school, navigating kid mask-wearing, playdates, and everything else out of our control. I'm no expert but in the episode, I throw down some tips that keep me sane & my hope is some of them help you too.
