An episode that welcomes you to a brand-new chapter in this project - one that has been years in the making! In Episode 131 of The Autistic Culture Podcast, we are revisiting the 10 Pillars of Autistic Culture! What you're about to hear is a special remastered version of an earlier episode that introduced the 10 Pillars of Autistic Culture, plus updated context and reflections from me about what it means in this new chapter. These are the building blocks of everything we're creating together going forward. This episode originally aired in January 2024, and since this episode first aired, I've taken a deeper look at the structure of the show and the framework we use to understand autistic culture.I've refined the 10 Pillars updating their names, sharpening the descriptions, and better connecting them to our lived traits, like sensory processing differences, stimming, emotional intensity, and our beautiful SPINs.What you'll hear in this episode is the heart of the work but think of it as the “draft” version.Over the next 10 weeks, I'll be highlighting one updated pillar each week with a replay of an episode that really brings that theme to life. I'll also share new context and reflections to go deeper. We'll unpack what each one means, how it shows up in our lives, and why it's worth celebrating. But I wanted to bring you this episode just as it aired because even though things have changed, this conversation holds so many gems, and it was a joyful reflection of where we were. And now, we get to go even deeper.Lets quickly walk you through what those 10 pillars are now. You might notice a few name changes:* Bottom-Up Processing (formerly “Logic and Strategy”)We build understanding from the ground up detail by detail, pattern by pattern. Think Sherlock Holmes, chess masters, scientific discovery.* Rhythmic Communicating (formerly “Linguistics and Accents”)Our conversations are musical echolalia, scripting, tangents, infodumps. There's a beat, a flow, a poetry to how we speak.* Norm Challenging (formerly “Deep Thinking and Insights”)We question assumptions. We live authentically. We honor truth over politeness, equity over hierarchy, and insight over illusion.* World BuildingWe don't just tell stories we create entire universes. Pokémon. Star Wars. Dungeons & Dragons. Autistic imagination builds the future.* Pattern Matching (formerly “Data Gathering and Analysis”)SPINs. Trivia nights. Wikipedia editing. Sexuality research. We find the signal in the noise and bring meaning to the chaos.* Game Changing (formerly “Innovative Ideas”)We're not following trends we're starting them. We rethink, reinvent, and rebuild systems from the ground up. Think Steve Jobs. Questlove. Muybridge.* Boldly Creating (formerly “Artistic Expression”)We paint with stims. We sing in scripts. We dance in sensory rhythm. Our creativity is intense, embodied, and often unconventional.* Predictably Comforting (formerly “Consistency and Reliability”)Repetition, routines, safe foods, rituals. These aren't rigidity they're anchors. Comfort. Stability. Power.* Justice Seeking (formerly “Justice and Honesty”)Fairness isn't optional it's essential. Emotional intensity meets ethical clarity. From Greta Thunberg to John McEnroe we stand for truth.* Passionate Superfanning (formerly “Superfanning and Fictional Friends”)Star Trek. Doctor Who. My Little Pony. Our love runs deep and our joy is contagious. Fandom is family. Lore is love. These 10 pillars map across three major domains of life:
We talk about deciding if you are a writer or a performer, confidence in bad joke, comedy as team sport, Neal being “groupless”, John McEnroe's good sportsmanship, gratitude, the day the Chappelle Show died, ayahuasca & MDMA & how it made him believe in God.Bio: Neal Brennan has been a force in comedy for over three decades with both his own standup performances as well as working behind the scenes as co-creator of Chappelle's Show and writing, producing and directing with other comedians like Chris Rock, Amy Schumer and Seth Meyers. His landmark Netflix specials, 3 Mics, Blocks, & Crazy Good set the standard for comedy. On his ‘Blocks' podcast, Neal talks in depth with people about their issue. Neal continues to perform comedy around Los Angeles and the world.
Hour 1 The Knicks won Game 2 on the road with another 20-point comeback as Celtics' shooting went cold, a "double punch" according to Gio. Knicks are undefeated on the road in the playoffs but have home losses heading back to MSG. Jerry's update included Kevin Harlan's call, Josh Hart on doing "little things," Mitchell Robinson feeling like a threat, and Charles Barkley wanting a night game for the Knicks on Saturday. We also heard MSG fan chants about Boston. Elsewhere, the Thunder scored 149 to even their series with the Nuggets, the Yankees won in the 10th after being no-hit into the seventh, and Juan Soto hit two homers in the Mets' win. Gio recounted his near miss at playing in the Creators Classic. The hour ended with Knicks fan calls. Hour 2 The Knicks repeated their Game 1 road win in Boston, coming back from 20 down as the Celtics' shooting faltered late. Despite the stat favoring teams up 2-0 on the road, Boomer is hesitant. Mikal Bridges and Jalen Brunson are playing well. Gio praised Karl-Anthony Towns' early performance. A 72-year-old caller hopes for another Knicks championship. Boomer shared an Instagram tip for checking hotel bedbugs, contrasting with Gio's towel-less, "sketchy" hotel stay due to budget constraints. Jerry's update featured Paul Pierce's confident prediction of a Celtics win (and subsequent barefoot robe walk promise), Celtics radio's reaction to a Bridges steal, and Karl-Anthony Towns on team unity. The Yankees beat the Padres with a Trent Grisham homer. The hour ended with Boomer and C-Lo's Rangers podcast, noting C-Lo's smaller picture. Hour 3 The Knicks secured another 20-point comeback win in Boston, mirroring Game 1. Callers discussed the Celtics potentially intentionally fouling Mitchell Robinson and the perspective of only watching the fourth quarter (Boomer disagreed with this approach). Another caller cautioned against premature celebration due to the Knicks' home losses. Jerry's update featured Shaq praising their "old school" style, and a Boston show likened the Knicks to "cockroaches" positively. The Yankees beat the Padres after Bellinger's seventh-inning homer, with Devin Williams' strong tenth. The Mets won in Arizona, highlighted by Jeff McNeil's triple and Juan Soto's two home runs. The hour concluded with enthusiastic Knicks callers, one anticipating a 3-0 lead and another questioning the sustainability of their comeback wins. Hour 4 Former Islander Josh Bailey called in to clarify Boomer's janitor comment from yesterday. The show then focused on Knicks callers, one noting the sportsbooks still have even odds for the Celtics to win the series. Jerry's final update included highlights of the Knicks' Boston win (with Kevin Harlan), the Yankees' sac-fly victory over the Padres, and Juan Soto's two homers in the Mets' Arizona win. The Moment of the Day featured Boomer discussing golf with John McEnroe (and being mocked). The hour concluded with a preview of Saturday afternoon's Game 3 at the Garden.

We're going back into the shadows and listening out for footsteps on tiled floors, as we revisit a series that all of us enjoyed back in season 1. We're going back 25 years to 2000 to look at a massively influential first-person stealth game. We're talking Thief II: The Metal Age.On this episode of Stealth Boom Boom, we chat a little bit about the architecture of Meet Joe Black, co-operative thieving, and crunching to hit the release date. We also look at a trailer that Eddie Vedder (and by extension John McEnroe) would be happy with, some of the hopes developer Looking Glass Studios had for the franchise, and the closure of the studio only months after launch. Here are some of the things you're gonna hear us chat about in our review: staying in the pitch black shadows and extinguishing flames with your water arrows; walking on carpet and shooting at tiled floors with your moss arrows; the Stealth Strepsil; the guards that never shut up; many different ways to move; new magic potions; the Scouting Orb and whether there's a need for it; the golden rule: get behind ‘em; a glitchy romance; cameras and big robots with faces; combat is punishment for being spotted; Dishonored; praise for quick save functionality; more objectives for higher difficulties; framing a lieutenant at the local police station; Kevin Keegan; a fondness for worldbuilding rather than plot; Blood Omen 2; sarky Garrett; religious texts; Karras as played by Droopy Dog; one of the best arguments; a UI that didn't please Josh; and a specific sound that pleases everyone. After all that, we take you through what some of the critics were saying about the game around the time it came out, and then we give you our final verdicts on whether Thief 2: The Metal Age is a Pass, a Play, or an Espionage Explosion. For those who would like to play along at home, we'll be discussing, reviewing and dissecting Metal Gear Acid on the next episode of Stealth Boom Boom.IMPORTANT LINKS TO THINGS

Geri Jewell is a Comedian/Actor/Motivational Speaker/Author and (thanks to Norman Lear) the trailblazing first person with a visible disability to appear as a TV show regular! Geri went straight from special ed to special treatment as a Facts of Life cast member, portraying Blair's Cousin Geri and providing essential representation for kids growing up and living with Cerebral Palsy. Geri's life and career have always been an inspiration, as evidenced by her brand new coffee table book 'Geri's Jewels & Gems', which will provide you with a fresh, positive perspective on the inevitable hardships and struggles we all face. Brace for Geri's sunny outlook, grit and determination to shift your mood and encourage you to pursue your own dreams! As a child, Geri's imagination took her to Wimbledon, standup comedy stages and Hollywood. She was soon exchanging letters with Carol Burnett, performing at the Comedy Store and playing doubles with John McEnroe and Arthur Ash! Her mother had warned her, “Be careful what you wish for.” Geri teaches us that kids with disabilities often grow up emotionally stunted because so much emphasis is placed on their physical development. Cast in an NBC sitcom at the age of 23, Geri was a rich target for unscrupulous managers and “friends.” She frequently lost her way while being misunderstood, underestimated and searching for the courage to live an openly gay life. The physical beating of Cerebral Palsy can be very painful and poor balance leads to debilitating falls. Geri was recovering from back and neck surgery, waiting in line at CVS to purchase botox for her neck pain when David Milch approached her and felt inspired to cast her in Deadwood! Your next miracle could be just around the corner! Geri talks to us about her first inspirational book called I'm Walking As Straight As I Can, her determination to defy expectations, how CP has provided her with unique insights into the human condition and her intention to help others reach their potential. Then Geri's best friend, hearing impaired comedian Kathy Buckley joins us on the panel to share more truly adorable anecdotes and adventures. Plus, Fritz and Weezy are recommending My Brilliant Friend on HBO and Daughters on Netflix.Path Points of Interest:Geri JewellGeri Jewell on WikiI'm Walking As Straight As I Can by Geri JewellGeri's Jewels and Gems by Gery JewellGeri Jewell on YoutubeGeri Jewell at Ability MagazineGeri Jewell on FacebookKathy BuckleyKathy Buckley on InstagramMy Brilliant Friend on HBODaughters - NetflixMedia Path PodcastGift Of Democracy

Today is a day for celebration. We are humbled to be in the presence of the newest member of the NOI, Brother Mal. Before Jay Electronica welcomed Mal to the brotherhood, the guys went to a Spotify creator dinner (full prediction of the dinner available on Patreon). Mal shares with us how Rory ruined the event. In other “awkward” news Travis Scott and John McEnroe face off on a zoom call. We call cap, but comment on the sneaker rollout. Then we discuss Jack Harlow's new single with Dave. Rory adds fuel to the beef before we turn to the biggest release of the week, Pink Friday 2. We have an issue with Nicki's album, but it's not directed at who you'd expect. Staying in conflict, we're ready for Keith Lee to leave our city. We cover his NY food journey. Did you see the video of the woman trying to burn down MLK's house? The world is a simulation. It's time for voicemails. We get into a great call then discuss our personal team cult, Shohei Ohtani's $700m contract, and end on a rant from Rory about how bad Harry Potter's character is throughout the movies.
