After collapsing from heatstroke during the 2024 Brighton Marathon, Holly Rowlinson faced heartbreak and the loss of a long-held goal. With reflection and the support of St John Ambulance, Holly turned her setback into a purpose. A year later, she ran the 2025 London Marathon, raising over £2,000 for the charity who helped her back to her feet. Holly's story is a testament to community, gratitude and the strength created from having a meaningful why. With this clarity and determination, Holly focused beyond the finish line. Reframing failure, she chose not to run for time but for something greater. Holly chose purpose over pace. Running 44@60 Podcast - plotting Trevor Lee's journey to the 2021 44 mile Cornwall Classic Quarter
Send us a textI made a big thing about saying that I would never run the Cornish Marathon and there I was on November 3rd 2024 on the start line.So yes I did run the Cornish Marathon, or rather I 'Jeffed' the Cornish Marathon so four minutes running one minute walking using the same strategy I used at the Brighton Marathon earlier in the year. Was a great day and I thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed it. Lots of fantastic people and some amazing views from the middle of nowhere.Loads of great volunteers out on the course - just a tremendous day. I'm so glad that I did do it.This is an on the run recording picking up snippets as I go which I hope you'll enjoy and I hope will give you a flavour for the Cornish Marathon if you decide to do it in 2025.If you do think about that here's the link to the East Cornwall Harriers website page featuring the Cornish Marathon. You can access and download the previous 158 episodes of this show via your usual podcast app or on the Running 44@60 podcast page. I ran my first, and so far only, ultra marathon in 2021 - the 44 mile Classic Quarter - to celebrate a landmark birthday which was a few weeks before the run. This podcast started as a way of me learning how to do that - hence why it's called Running 44@60. The adventure then turned into a book and as a business consultant it became both a business and running book and is available on Amazon via this link: 12 Business Lessons from Running an Ultra Marathon. My run raised over £7000 for Childrens Hospice South West Music Therapy programme and every book bought on Amazon generates another £5 for the programme. The Running 44@60 podcast began as a learning / motivational tool for host Trevor Lee in his quest to run a first ever ultra - the Classic Quarter in 2021 - here's the story of Running 44@60 It now has 160 episodes and is aimed at those thinking about and committing to their first ever ultra.Trevor wrote a book : 12 Business Lessons from Running an Ultra Marathon - all proceeds go to the Children's Hospice South West

For this episode of the Running 44@60 podcast host Trevor Lee recorded on the run at the 2024 Brighton Marathon on Sunday April 7thTrevor used the same Jeff Galloway method that he used in the 2023 Brighton half marathon when he was several minutes under his predicted timeThe method is to run four minutes then walk for one minute throughout the whole of the event, even though in those first few walks you get overtaken by seemingly hundreds of runners!Trevor's target was to be under five hours, with a secondary target of being under 4:50 and a top target of sub 4:45As you will hear the Jeffing method worked really well and Trevor came home in 4:42The podcast episode will give you a real flavour for the fantastic atmosphere created by the thousands of spectators who lined the courseThe noise was absolutely immense in places and you will also hear that there was several groups of musicians and singers out on the courseThis will take some beating for being Trevor's number one run of 2024 when he looks back on the year in DecemberHere is the link to the results: Brighton Marathon Results 2024 And here is the link to the Brighton Marathon page if by listening to this you are persuaded to go for it in 2025 - its on Sunday April 6thI mentioned Rob Deering who we saw at the Komedia Comedy Club in Brighton - Rob co-hosts a great running podcast - Running Commentary - with fellow comedian Paul Tonkinson. Paul is planning to run this year's Marathon des Sables. This week on Chris's Corner, I delve into the details of my triumphant marathon in Brighton. My ultimate goal was to complete a marathon in under 3 hours and 30 minutes, and I am thrilled to announce that I achieved this feat in just 3 hours and 27 minutes. As someone who struggled with cardio due to asthma in their younger years, this accomplishment is especially meaningful to me. During this podcast, I will provide an overview of my marathon preparation, including my nutrition, hydration, and mental state. Additionally, I will address the psychological challenges you may encounter while taking on a task as daunting as the Brighton marathon, such as the lack of support from those around you. Along with sharing the necessary steps that I took to prepare for this race, I will also offer a personal and motivational speech to inspire you to achieve a meaningful accomplishment, just as I did with my sub-3:30 marathon. As always, I hope that you will enjoy this week's podcast, and I look forward to reconnecting with you next week.

This week on Chris's Corner I tackle some fun topics such as conquering weaknesses, running the Brighton marathon 2023, the epicness that is Jujutsu Kaisen, and not playing as much video games anymore in your late 20's. Within the topic of weaknesses I discuss the incorporation of swimming into my weekly working out routine and explain why I struggle to do it. I like to think that I bringing a little bit of humble pie to this conversation shows that even when you have achieved a lot in one area doesn't mean you can't start something else from scratch and begin that adventure once more! Similar to how I started running, swimming has been difficult but like I say in the podcast. Anything worth doing isn't easy. The Brighton Marathon will also be an extremely difficult task to accomplish but I believe the last 8 years of running will culminate in my goals that I describe in the podcast. As for the other topics, well, if you've read this far, then I guess you'll have to listen in for the whole podcast, for some Jujutsu Kaisen details. As always, I hope you enjoy this week's episode and I'll see you this time next week!

Sometimes running around your local park for a timed, weekly 5k just doesn't cut it. You want some more adventure, some more culture, something that completely changes the way you see the world. No, we're not talking Brighton Marathon... we're talking participating in races that take place in some unusual and largely unvisited ares of the world - or areas where you would NEVER think of travelling right now. Step in James Willcox, founder of Untamed Borders, a company that specialises in just that. When David ran the Afghanistan marathon, it was Untamed Borders who supported the race with their on-ground knowledge. In this episode, David speaks to James about organising and visiting places that are off-the-map to so many, the challenges and the benefits of seeing the world from a different perspective. The far off dream of running a marathon… The discrimination of women based on their size. The judgement women are constantly under and why it can be easier to not run Why larger women need to be more visible. Why women of all sizes can get outside and run Her take on running clubs, but why they don’t necessarily work for working mothers with children. How being a part of a running club can help you become part of a community and can help with accountability. One Big Fat Run - A virtual 5K that takes place on the last Sunday of every month Why it’s about the participation at the end of the day! Continuing from Episode 2, this episode kicks off following Jody's revelation about how running Brighton Marathon with only 90 minutes notice was hands-down his worst marathon experience. Now it's David's turn to reveal his worst race experience. The action continues… David confesses to being about to tell a really bad joke… but then in revealing it, still manages to cause offence without gaining any benefit David explains his worst race… without being able to name the race nor the start and end points of the race. Why, as a race organiser, it's not a great idea to get a bunch of squaddies on your bad side (things go from bad to worse) David accidentally reveals the starting location… and pleads to have it bleeped out of the episode (we didn't, of course) David explains the moment when the relay team hit breaking point, how the organiser failed to pick up on the mutiny in his midst (despite everything that went wrong) and how he's avoided saying “yes” ever again Jody accuses David of neglecting his responsibility to the listeners… and David agrees The moment we realise Bad Boy Running was a terrible name choice for the podcast (and we beg you to think of the podcast as gender neutral) Where we open it up to you to let us know what your worst race was… and the kind of stuff we're looking for David reveals the incredibly “high tech” way you can give your opinion and feedback on the show and reads out letters from non-existent listeners In a confusing twist, Jody reveals where he gets his hair cut (and how he shares his salon with a very important local figure) Why you may want to revisit this episode if we ever make it to Episode 150 (we're being a touch hopeful here) David recklessly invents an email address and asks listeners to send their feedback, possibly prompting an avalanche of spam to an unsuspecting individual (If your name is Mr BadBoyRunning, watch out…) Why you need to use the #BadBoyRunning hashtag on twitter David has a sudden realisation that transforms the podcast recording into a romantic drama What happens next? The episode ends on a cliffhanger… Enjoy! If you enjoyed this episode please SUBSCRIBE to get every episode delivered to you before everyone else. Join the conversation! Yikes! Brighton’s first marathon. So in my usual style I sauntered through the relevant streets soaking in the atmosphere of this historic event. The actual winner was Mongolian Ser-od Ba-otochir - well done son.
