The most dangerous lie women believe in midlife is that their best years are behind them. It shows up quietly. It sounds reasonable. It tells us to slow down, step back, and stop wanting more. In Episode 254, When Wanting More In Midlife Starts to Feel Wrong, I sit down with pro-aging advocate Ande Lyons to challenge that lie and reveal how easily women become caged by their age without even realizing it. We talk about how gendered ageism shapes confidence, ambition, and identity for women in midlife — and why wanting more in midlife can suddenly feel inappropriate, risky, or unrealistic, even when women still feel capable, curious, and alive. This conversation introduces a pro-aging mindset and reframes aging not as decline, but as expansion. We explore what it really means to rewire, not retire, why purpose after 60 is not only possible but powerful, and how lived experience becomes an advantage rather than a limitation. We also talk about visibility — saying your age out loud, being comfortable as the oldest woman in the room, and choosing to show up fully instead of shrinking. Ande shares why intergenerational community matters, and how connection helps dissolve ageism while keeping women energized, engaged, and grounded. We cover simple daily practices that support positive aging: gratitude, journaling, intentional movement, protecting balance and strength, and choosing community over isolation. Throughout the episode, one truth is reinforced again and again: self-first is not selfish. This conversation is a reminder that wanting more in midlife is not a problem to fix. You are not done. You are not invisible. And you do not need permission to want more. Send us a textThis week, Gemma and Ande are diving headfirst into one of the most infamous and unsettling conspiracy theories in U.S. history: The Philadelphia Experiment. Allegedly conducted by the U.S. Navy in the 1940s, this secret experiment was said to involve cloaking technology, teleportation, and time manipulation, resulting in horrifying consequences. In Part 1, we lay the groundwork. Where did this story originate? Who were the key figures that claimed it really happened? And how did a single naval ship become the center of decades of rumors involving vanished crews, fused bodies, and government cover-ups? Tune in as we go down this rabbit hole, y'all!

Requital, 3min,. UK Directed by Ande Case A short Animation of how history repeats itself. Frustratingly. Get to know the filmmaker: What motivated you to make this film? The original idea was from my partner who talked about history repeating itself. We despise inequality, that people so wealthy they will never want for anything still end up being so cruel and disgusting. The worst of us. They have the ability to end hunger, disease, homelessness yet they always end up being fascists who only want to visit cruelty upon others. From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film? About 6 months from script to final version as Lucy, the animator, was very kindly developing this film in between all the other work she had on and, due to budget, we had to rethink some scenes and visuals. How would you describe your film in two words!? History Repeats. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film? Finance, it's always finance. I have reached a point where ‘funding streams' are some fairy tale old filmmakers tell newbies about how good it was in their day ----- Subscribe to the podcast: https://twitter.com/wildsoundpod https://www.instagram.com/wildsoundpod https://www.facebook.com/wildsoundpod

Walking transformed anxiety into vitality for 69-year-old entrepreneur Ande Lyons, who discovered from a book-on-cassette that 35 minutes daily helped manage her symptoms and eventually led to her current six-mile routine despite facing osteoporosis. Ande argues that movement is a privilege rather than a chore, and that community connections matter more than almost anything else for healthy aging, while encouraging people to "take center stage" instead of becoming invisible as they age. Her journey from hiding her age in the startup world to becoming a pro-aging advocate demonstrates how shifting from apathy to action can redefine what thriving looks like in our later decades. During her tenure as a successful entrepreneur and podcaster, Ande Lyons' advice to young start-up founders was: “Don't Be Caged by Your Age.” At age 66, she took her own advice. Ande shifted her focus to older people, especially women, with the mission to redefine what it means to thrive after 65. Ande exposes internal ageist beliefs and debunks myths that older women are no longer visible, connected, and contributing. Ande's podcast, Don't Be Caged By Your Age, features interviews with women whose stories are about “liberating life changes [that] shatter age-related stereotypes.” Ande hears from younger women—the 40-50 year-olds—that “these stories help them see that growing older can be something to look forward to.” Driven by her own passion for fostering intergenerational relationships and community, Ande founded the New England Podcasters Group in early 2024, and today it's a thriving, ever-growing network of podcasters connecting, collaborating, and amplifying each other's voices.“Don't Be Caged by Your Age.” - Ande LyonsConnect with Ande:Website: https://www.dontbecagedbyyourage.comEmail: ande@dontbecagedbyyourage.comThe Age-Wise Collective consists of podcasts that promote older women, including Women Over 70.

This week on Pod Have Mercy, we're joined by Bishop Ande Emmanuel, the resident bishop of The United Methodist Church in Nigeria. In a conversation that is both sobering and urgent, Bishop Emmanuel sheds light on the escalating tensions between UMC and GMC members in Nigeria—tensions that have led to violence, misinformation, and even the tragic loss of life.He addresses head-on the false narratives being circulated by the Global Methodist Church and offers a clear-eyed perspective on what's truly happening on the ground. This episode is a call for truth, accountability, and prayer for our brothers and sisters in Nigeria who continue to serve faithfully in the face of division and danger. We invite you to listen with open hearts and minds—and to pray for peace, unity, and healing.
It's no secret to some of my longtime listeners that I'm originally from Los Angeles; sometimes referred to as the land of the rich, famous and forever young. That “fountain of youth”, has been featured and celebrated in films, commercials and advertising for decades, leading those of us who are now in our more “mature years”, to believe that we've become irrelevant, worthless and should claim our rightful spot in the proverbial “pasture”. Well, Ande Lyons, the guest joining me today, has made it her mission to dismantle age-related stereotypes and explore the limitless potential that comes with experience and wisdom, and she does so as the host and producer of her "Don't Be Caged by Your Age" podcast. A seasoned entrepreneur and global startup mentor, Ande seeks to inspire and empower her listeners to thrive at any age, especially after the age of 65. With over a decade of podcasting experience and more than 800 episodes under her belt, including 250 episodes of her "Startup Life Show” on YouTube, and ‘Your Ink Story' podcast, she's passionate about sparking meaningful conversations that ignite change and growth. As the proud founder of four diverse businesses, ranging from tech to food, Ande has navigated the exhilarating highs and challenging lows of entrepreneurship, gaining insights and stories that she generously shares with her listeners. She's taken that generosity to the streets, so to speak, by forming the New England Podcasters Group, a vibrant community of storytellers and creators who gather monthly to collaborate, learn, and grow. NEPG provides a supportive space for podcasters to refine their craft, connect with one another, and expand their reach with their monthly speaker series featuring industry leaders and innovators. Whether she's mentoring entrepreneurs, hosting pro-aging conversations, or building community through podcasting, Ande is a source of inspiration and empowerment with anyone she connects with, by helping them to embrace new opportunities and live their most fulfilling lives. True Crime Tuesday presents: You Are Fatally Invited with Author, Ande Pliego No crime writing retreat is complete without a murder... A legendary author's murder mystery writing retreat on his private island turns lethal when one of the writers is murdered in this twisty debut novel. When renowned anonymous author J. R. Alastor hires former aspiring writer Mila del Angél to host a writing retreat at his private manor off the coast of Maine, she jumps at the chance—particularly since she has an ax to grind with one of the invitees. The guest list? Six thriller authors, all masters of deceit, misdirection, and mayhem. Confess the crimes, survive the tropes. Alastor and Mila have masterminded a week of games, trope-fueled riddles, and maybe a jump scare or two—the perfect cover for Mila to plot a murder of her own. But when a guest turns up dead—and it's not the murder she planned—Mila finds herself trapped in a different narrative altogether. One by one, you'll lose your turn. With a storm cutting off the island, and the body count rising, Mila must outwit a killer who knows literally every trick in the book. Until only one of us remains… On Today's TCT, Pip Drysdale joins us to talk about her beginnings, the inspiration for "The Close-Up", The psychology of human beings and the duality of personalities that go into this novel. and, the scenarios that lead to the shocking ending of "The Close-Up!" A Way with Words — language, linguistics, and callers from all over
An anadrome is a word that forms a whole new word when you spell it backwards. For example, the word "stressed" spelled backwards is "desserts." Some people's first names are actually anadromes. There's the girl named Noel in honor of her father Leon, and the woman named Edna who adopted the name Ande. Speaking of names, know anybody whose occupation fits their name? Maybe a college administrator named Dean, or a breadmaker named Baker? Well, there's a name for that, too. It's called nominative determinism. Plus, a conversation about how hard it can be to gracefully end . . . a conversation. Also: a puzzle about famous names, Wellerisms, kaffedags and fika, a kissing game, moco, greissel, twacking and the plural of computer mouse. (Computer mice? Computer mouses? Computer meece?) Something a little different this time around. We're not talking to another tattoo artist today - we're diving deep with Jenny Chambers, a serious tattoo collector who's got stories that'll make you see this whole world differently. In the current tattoo climate, it's not just about finding an artist who can slap some ink on you - it's about building relationships, understanding the craft, and respecting the process. When Jenny talks about collecting work from legends like Jeff Gogue, Phil Garcia, and Ande Chambers, she's not just name-dropping - she's sharing a journey that most people never get to see. This isn't your typical "hey, I got a tattoo" story. This is about the real hustle, the behind-the-scenes grind that happens before that needle ever touches skin. So buckle up, because we're about to break down tattoo collecting in a way you've never heard before.
