Learn more about your ad choices. Den heliga Ande - 8 juni 2025 by EFS Helsingborg
All'inizio abbiamo citato l'avvoltoio nero (ebr.

This week on Pod Have Mercy, we're joined by Bishop Ande Emmanuel, the resident bishop of The United Methodist Church in Nigeria. In a conversation that is both sobering and urgent, Bishop Emmanuel sheds light on the escalating tensions between UMC and GMC members in Nigeria—tensions that have led to violence, misinformation, and even the tragic loss of life.He addresses head-on the false narratives being circulated by the Global Methodist Church and offers a clear-eyed perspective on what's truly happening on the ground. This episode is a call for truth, accountability, and prayer for our brothers and sisters in Nigeria who continue to serve faithfully in the face of division and danger. We invite you to listen with open hearts and minds—and to pray for peace, unity, and healing.

If you would like us to work with your team book a 30 min chat HERETrigger warning: sexual assaultEvery now and then I encounter someone who has lived a life that is so much bigger and jam packed than you could expect. That means it comes with more than a few highs and more than a few challenges. That is very much the case for Andreea Kindryd whose early childhood was marked by moments of sexual assault, trauma and racism. Andreea went from working with Martin Luther King, Jr, Malcolm X and Maulana Karenga in Los Angeles, to work on radio stations in Chicago and New York, and then back to LA joining the crew on TV's Star Trek. In 1974, she finally settled in Australia where she was able to make her own films. Her first film, Sunrise… Awakening, won awards and changed opinions. Andreea joined with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander's NAISDA Dance College and helped launch Bangarra Dance Theatre. She was selected as an Australian presenter by TED during their global,14 city, six continent search for voices and ideas the world needs to hear.In this episode she shares:Her childhood experiences as the only black student at her Catholic schoolThe impact of her mother's fear-driven parenting style on her self-imageNavigating teenage challenges, including early relationships and societal expectationsHer experiences with coercive control land sexual assaultHer involvement in the Civil Rights Movement alongside figures like Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm XThe evolution of her career in entertainment and the significance of representation, particularly in projects like Star TrekThe rejection she experienced trying to make it was a woman in HollywoodThe turning point in her life and the writing of her deeply personal book, From Slavery to the Stars Key Quotes ”You can't go and tell people that you've just been raped, I guess. So I didn't tell my mother, and then I hated my mother because she didn't know what I hadn't told her so she didn't respond.” More Information about AndeYou can find out more about Ande and her book via her website. Welcome back, my fellow creatives!Yup, I'm back to looking at the first five pages of various stories, for those five pages can make or break the engagement of a reader--or an agent. So, let's scope out the stories of others to see how they hook an audience!Clearly, Pliego was stoked to take the iconic And Then There Were None premise and ratchet it up with a gathering of mystery authors on a mysterious island estate. Throughout the introduction written by the gathering's organizer and the opening pages from an attendee's perspective, readers can see a clear difference in voices, but neither voice comes off as a trustworthy narrator. I particularly love the introduction's opening line: “If you were to take Story, strap it down onto your dining room table, and slide a scalpel through its chest, you would find the lifeblood is theme.” Such a line gives a very strong sense of what this…soul, I'll say, will be like. The visual of taking a creature and strapping it down onto your dining room table is already quite an image, but it's the scalpel that gets me. Not a butcher's knife or a dagger, but a scalpel. That's a very surgical, sanitary, clean but deadly tool. Yet this dining room setting is NOT clinical at all–such a juxtaposition says a lot about the person who puts these things together. And the fact that the scalpel goes straight into the chest–the lethal place, the bloodiest place. Such a start promises plenty of “beautiful madness” in the pages ahead. And what will we discover in the following story's pages? We'll have to wait and see. xxxxRead on, share on, and write on, my friends!

It's no secret to some of my longtime listeners that I'm originally from Los Angeles; sometimes referred to as the land of the rich, famous and forever young. That “fountain of youth”, has been featured and celebrated in films, commercials and advertising for decades, leading those of us who are now in our more “mature years”, to believe that we've become irrelevant, worthless and should claim our rightful spot in the proverbial “pasture”. Well, Ande Lyons, the guest joining me today, has made it her mission to dismantle age-related stereotypes and explore the limitless potential that comes with experience and wisdom, and she does so as the host and producer of her "Don't Be Caged by Your Age" podcast. A seasoned entrepreneur and global startup mentor, Ande seeks to inspire and empower her listeners to thrive at any age, especially after the age of 65. With over a decade of podcasting experience and more than 800 episodes under her belt, including 250 episodes of her "Startup Life Show” on YouTube, and ‘Your Ink Story' podcast, she's passionate about sparking meaningful conversations that ignite change and growth. As the proud founder of four diverse businesses, ranging from tech to food, Ande has navigated the exhilarating highs and challenging lows of entrepreneurship, gaining insights and stories that she generously shares with her listeners. She's taken that generosity to the streets, so to speak, by forming the New England Podcasters Group, a vibrant community of storytellers and creators who gather monthly to collaborate, learn, and grow. NEPG provides a supportive space for podcasters to refine their craft, connect with one another, and expand their reach with their monthly speaker series featuring industry leaders and innovators. Whether she's mentoring entrepreneurs, hosting pro-aging conversations, or building community through podcasting, Ande is a source of inspiration and empowerment with anyone she connects with, by helping them to embrace new opportunities and live their most fulfilling lives. Alastor and Mila have masterminded a week of games, trope-fueled riddles, and maybe a jump scare or two—the perfect cover for Mila to plot a murder of her own. But when a guest turns up dead—and it's not the murder she planned—Mila finds herself trapped in a different narrative altogether. One by one, you'll lose your turn. With a storm cutting off the island, and the body count rising, Mila must outwit a killer who knows literally every trick in the book. Until only one of us remains… On Today's TCT, Pip Drysdale joins us to talk about her beginnings, the inspiration for "The Close-Up", The psychology of human beings and the duality of personalities that go into this novel. and, the scenarios that lead to the shocking ending of "The Close-Up!"
A Way with Words — language, linguistics, and callers from all over
An anadrome is a word that forms a whole new word when you spell it backwards. For example, the word "stressed" spelled backwards is "desserts." Some people's first names are actually anadromes. There's the girl named Noel in honor of her father Leon, and the woman named Edna who adopted the name Ande. Speaking of names, know anybody whose occupation fits their name? Maybe a college administrator named Dean, or a breadmaker named Baker? Well, there's a name for that, too. It's called nominative determinism. Plus, a conversation about how hard it can be to gracefully end . . . a conversation. Also: a puzzle about famous names, Wellerisms, kaffedags and fika, a kissing game, moco, greissel, twacking and the plural of computer mouse. (Computer mice? Computer mouses? Computer meece?) Something a little different this time around. We're not talking to another tattoo artist today - we're diving deep with Jenny Chambers, a serious tattoo collector who's got stories that'll make you see this whole world differently. In the current tattoo climate, it's not just about finding an artist who can slap some ink on you - it's about building relationships, understanding the craft, and respecting the process. When Jenny talks about collecting work from legends like Jeff Gogue, Phil Garcia, and Ande Chambers, she's not just name-dropping - she's sharing a journey that most people never get to see. This isn't your typical "hey, I got a tattoo" story. This is about the real hustle, the behind-the-scenes grind that happens before that needle ever touches skin. So buckle up, because we're about to break down tattoo collecting in a way you've never heard before.

Send us a textAnde Lyons is on a mission which can be summed up in the title of her podcast: Don't Be Caged by Your Age. Ande's background in business as a 4x business founder and global startup mentor eventually led her to her current role as a podcast creator and host of a monthly podcast gathering. She saw many examples of ageism in the business world and found a way at age 66 to nervously proclaim her age. She wanted to show the world that you can still be a vibrant, connected and contributing person at this age. Ande wants to bring examples of ageism out in the light so they can be changed and help others learn to live a fantastic life. She even calls out Kim about a familiar phrase that actually is ageist. How many times have you said "age is just a number?" Make sure you listen to learn why that is not a phrase we should be saying.
