Almost two years ago, I ended the last episode of this podcast with "See you soon" and I just walked away. I said, "Nope, need some me time" and I allowed my emotions to control me as I did my own thing. Well today I am back and the podcast is back and better than ever! Pardon the uncensored nature of the episode, I did a "word vomit" session and just spewed everything. Also shameless merch plug here: authoronwheels-merch | Spreadshop
To kick off season five, we are back in the studio with Mr. Juan Diaz to get an update on his newest bestseller.
Sharon Arsego is a lifelong Connecticut resident whose creativity, wit and appreciation for music were deeply fostered by an expressive Italian father and a more reserved, Czechoslovakian mother, among other artists and musicians in her family. Like many authors, Sharon started writing at a young age and, despite some stops and starts in life, continues to write, and now draw, as well. It has long been her dream to publish her work. Cadence is not only her debut book, but also the first from her private label, Swirl Ink Publications, named as a nod to the style of drawing her mother used to keep her occupied as a child. She considers herself fortunate for the experiences and mentoring provided to her over the years, including earning her B.A. in English Studies from St. Joseph College in West Hartford, CT. Sharon currently has a career with the City of Bristol, CT where she resides with her beloved feline companion, Big Mitts Mackenzie, aka Mack. Previous writing collaborations include: CD Release articles for Musician Robert C. Fullerton, Freelance Writer for CT Valley Post, Sales and Promotions at FM 97.3 WZBG, Founding of Team Teal and Warm Our Warriors (in memoriam blanket projects to honor her late parents), Newsletter Editor and Event Volunteer for Cat Tales feline rescue, and during Covid, The Sketchbook Project originally based in NYC. Cadence teaser: If you've ever spent time lakeside or in the deep woods, escaped to the sea or a nearby pond, spent time sprawled out in the grass or watched critters in their natural habitat, you're going to love the encompassing nature theme that runs through Cadence. Dragonflies, weeping willows, shipwrecks and all sorts are waiting for you between the pages of this debut collection spanning thirty years and over seventy poems by Connecticut resident, Sharon Arsego, herself a lifetime observer of wildlife and lover of the four signature seasons in the Nutmeg state. Cadence's easy to read style with a side of insight and sprinkling of humor will make you feel welcome, whether hearing the word "poetry" usually makes you cringe a little or jump for joy a lot. Take Cadence into your hands and see which of her poems also find room in your heart! Lian van Berkel was born in the Netherlands in 1986. From the moment she was able to read and write, she has done both these things passionately. She loved nothing better at school than the opportunity to write stories. She wrote her first picture books around age eight (fan fiction of the Care Bears) and her first novel at age twelve (a horror story about a teacher who mutilated his pupils with a chainsaw; co-authored with her best friend, Joyce). After her A-levels, Lian went on to university to study English language and culture, as well as linguistics. She obtained a master's degree in both and a PhD in linguistics. She has also worked as a teacher and postdoctoral researcher at two universities. Lian is currently on disability, due to having ME (aka Chronic Fatigue Syndrome). She still tries to paint, crochet, and draw as much as she can, and she loves to visit the library when she has the energy to do so. Links to my written works are on my website: lianvanberkel.nl (currently only available in Dutch) Also: my cat's diary is in a Facebook group (most posts are in Dutch, though, and facebook's translations aren't perfect): “Diva's dagboek: het tragische leven van een verwaarloosde poes” (Diva's diary: the tragic life of a neglected pussycat).

Lori Safranek likes writing about things that give other people nightmares. She’s fascinated by serial killers, and they populate many of her stories. They tend to walk right in and sit down near the computer screen while she’s typing, so it’s really hard to ignore them. Not that she tries. Freak show performers amaze her, too, so she created her own world for the special people of the circus world. Freakshow: The Complete Freaked Out Series combines all of her characters in one dangerous place, with a snake charmer, a sword swallower, an alligator man, a contortionist and a tattooed man all benevolently watched over by the Fattest Woman on Earth! The moral of the story is: We are all freaks, we just don’t know it. Lori began her writing career as a small-town newspaper reporter in Nebraska. She finds plenty of inspiration in her home state, from the abandoned farms to the dense cornfields to the lonely backroads. Why do you think they call it a flyover state? People are just too scared to stop. Since she turned her hand to writing fiction, Lori’s work has been published in several anthologies, including Slaughter House: The Serial Killer Edition-Volume I from Sirens Call Publications; Simple Things, from Lycan Publications; Final Masquerade by Lycan Publications; and Dead Harvest by Scarlet Galleon Publications. Her books can be found at her Amazon author’s page https://www.amazon.com/Lori-Safranek/e/B00BBGVD8U?ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_4&qid=1616890595&sr=1-4 of you can find her on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/LoriSafranekAuthor Lori lives in Omaha, Nebraska with her husband of thirty-eight years, Chuck, and their two dogs, Charlie and Arthur and of course a black cat, named Missy. Her office is full of photos of nice people like Ted Bundy and Ed Gein, and a few zombies, among the towers of books waiting to be read. My name is David and I have Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Duchenne is a neuromuscular disease characterized by progressive muscle weakness. It is the most common muscular dystrophy in boys, and it follows a similar trajectory in most people: losing the ability to walk around age 10, requiring ventilation in the early 20s, and survival into the late 30s is rare. I grew up in Chicago and went to the University of Illinois (’13, MSW ’17). I was able to live on campus, away from home, and be fully independent, thanks to a specialized residence program at the University. My unique living situation gave me the opportunity to have many typical experiences that others with send not often get to have. Recognition of the uniqueness of my experiences were the catalyst for writing my book. I realized that my situation was a perfect case study to show how much people with Duchenne can accomplish if given the right environment, adequate support, and encouragement. I felt compelled to tell my story, in the hope that it could show exactly what people with Duchenne are capable of. In short, I hope to inspire others with Duchenne, as well as parents of people with Duchenne – it is usually devastating to receive the diagnosis, and seemingly hopeless. They hear my story, perhaps there is some future will not seem so dark. My book is called Prism: Shedding Light on Life with Duchenne. It is a memoir about my experiences with having Duchenne. The first three chapters detail the highs and lows of growing up while learning to adapt to an ever-changing disease. The majority of the book focuses on my time in college: living in the adaptive dorm, learning to be independent, and struggling to accept my limitations. 3: what advice would you give those who possibly want to write a book but are having trouble thinking of ideas or motivating themselves to write. When I started my book, I had no prior writing experience. I did not go to school for writing, and have no background in writing or English. I just dove right in and started it, and basically just learned as I went. So in terms of writing ability, anyone can develop their skills if they work at it. I would also say that any aspiring writers should read as much as they can—especially the genre they plan to write in. The best way to get a feel for the best way to put words in paragraphs together, as well as structure, is to see how the professionals do it 4: Where can people contact you in regards to your books? The best way to contact me currently is through my facebook page Prism a.k.a David’s Book https://www.facebook.com/Prism-aka-Davids-book-313605882386390
