Back To The Podcast is a new and alternative look at all things to do with movies. Hosted by Byron and Bear, two huge movie lovers, in each episode we will discuss anything and everything about movies from 50 years ago up to the present day. We will also keep you up to date with whats worth keeping…
We return with the much acclaimed, Knives Out directed by Rian Johnson. Boasting an all star cast and a modern day who dunnit, we delve into this modern day tribute to Agatha Christie.
In this latest edition of Back To The Podcast we bring you our review of the latest edition in the Terminator franchise. Terminator Dark Fate. Both being huge fans of the original two films, it's safe to neither of us were impressed with this latest offering and we both do our best to come to terms with the fact that this is not only the end of what was once a great franchise but now the franchise has tipped the balance to having far more bad films in it than good ones. This film felt a bit like a mess and trying to achieve too many things. Not only were they trying to pay tribute to the originals but they obviously wanted to take the universe into a new direction and future. We discuss why we thing they failed.
A new telling of the classic HG Wells story, The Invisible Man has recently graced our screens. We were excited about this one and it didn't disappoint in many areas but we were left wondering if this needed to be The Invisible Man at all or could it of been a new modern story without any prior knowledge from audiences. Enjoy
It's that time of year again folks, (all be it, a little late in the year) where we host our very own Awards show for the films of 2019. As always we have teamed up with Paul from Blokebusters podcast from across the pond in the USA. And over the next 90 minutes we take you through 10 categories of what we felt, best film, worst film, best male actor, best up and coming actor and more for the films released in 2019.
In another film that got a lot of attention at the Oscars we take a look at the cinematically epic war film, 1917. A ridiculously impressive cinema experience that we look at in detail including the way it is shot resembling one long take, the ups and downs of the scenes and the emotional weight. A bit of a different one for us but we enjoyed this film and hope you enjoy listening.
We take a stroll back to last year again and take a look at Alita: Battle Angel which on paper should have been a huge triumph but we just felt it sank without a trace. With plans for sequels shelved and the overall reception for the film feeling a bit flat we take a look at what could have gone wrong for this film. www.facebook.com/backtothepodcast www.instragram.com/backtothepodcast
We have returned with an electronic podcast during the Covid 19 lockdown to bring you a short podcast and review of the recent straight to Netflix released, Extraction. Chris Hemsworth plays the modern day Commando in this all action adventure through the streets of Bangladesh. The film received mix reviews but we were fans as we are fans of the genre. Is it possible that the genre is part of a dying generation where people expect more from films than just action? Enjoy!!
We take a look at the brand spanking new series upon Amazon Prime, Picard. Welcoming back Patrick Stewart as Jean Luc Picard after the last Star Trek film nearly 20 years ago. Star Trek The Next Generation was a massive hit back in the 80's and 90's and we were interested to see the route the makers of this new show would take to tell us what the retired Captain of the Enterprise was getting up to in his later years. At the time of recording we are reviewing the first two episodes. Enjoy! www.backtothepodcast.co.uk www.instagram.com/backtothepodcast
Happy new year from BTTP and we delve right into one of the huge films that concluded the year, the decade and a 42 year old franchise. Star War - The Rise Of Skywalker. As it's well documented, this is the epic conclusion of the Skywalker saga that has graced our Star Wars screens for 9 films and over 40 years. We discuss the ending and we also discuss the possible future now it's under Disney's brand building corporation. With the return of a few key characters from the original trilogy and the continuation of the new trilogy cast we take a look to see if this has resonated with fans or if it has fallen flat. www.backtothepodcast.co.uk www.facebook.com/backtothepodcast
Easily one of the unexpected shock surprises of 2019 was Joker. We thought, before it was too late we would delve into this near perfect film with phenomenal performances from Joaquin Phoenix and an equally astounding supporting cast.
Join us for this mini podcast where we watch and give our thoughts on the recent Ghostbusters: Afterlife trailer. We delve into our expectations and what we hope to/not to see. Join us back next week for another full movie review. www.backtothepodcast.co.uk
We return with a look at the potentially final instalment in the Rambo series, Rambo: Last Blood. With both of us being huge Sylvester Stallone this film was a joy to watch. It certainly satisfied our desire for action films but we take a look at why this film has made not a huge amount of money and didn't satisfy other audiences as much as us www.backtothepodcast.co.uk @backtothepodcast backtothepodcast@gmail.com
We return with a little look at a film that may have fallen off the radar. A remake of the British TV series, Widows came out earlier this year and boasts and impressive cast but got over looked by many. We ponder whether this was down to the films marketing. Check it out for yourself and let us know your thoughts. www.backtothepodcast.co.uk www.facebook.com/backtothepodcast www.instagram.com/backtothepodcast
We took to the cinema last week to watch Quentin Tarentinos ninth feature film, Once Upon A Time...In Hollywood. Starring Hollywood royalty Leonardo DeCaprio and Brad Pitt amongst a phenomenal supporting cast, this really is a celebration of the golden era of Hollywood that stumbles across a few historic moments along the way. We loved this film and find out why in our podcast. Spoilers throughout. www.backtothepodcast.co.uk www.instagram.com/backtothepodcast www.facebook.com/backtothepodcast
Well folks, its been a while but we are back after a bit of a break. Sometimes real life gets in the way to bring you this podcast. WE've been off having babies, working and travelling the world but one thing we have both down a lot of is see movies. So instead of bringing one review podcast we decided to just record our chat after not seeing each other for quite a few weeks, there was a lot to chat about from the world of movies and TV. We take a look at Stranger Things series 3, Chernobyl, Spiderman Far From Home, The Lion King and other tasters along the way. We hope you enjoy and we hope to bring you another episode next week. Enjoy!
We take a look at the final series of the not so loved final series of Game Of Thrones which has fans split world wide.
With full spoilers ahead, we take a look at the recent series of The Walking Dead, one of our favourite shows but have a quick look to see whether this most recent series lives up to expectation.
We bring you the live audio from when we appeared at the Walker Stalker event live at the London Excel centre on 30th March 2019. Joined by the wonderful writer, Pixie Britton.
We delve into the epic 3 hour marathon of Avengers Endgame.
We are back with our first film released and reviewed in 2019. Today we take a look at Captain Marvel, the seemingly invincible superhero played by Brie Larson and who looks to be the newest important member of the Avengers franchise. A stand alone origin story that has had both good and bad press and still made a ton of money. With Avengers Endgame around the corner this is probably relevant but we try to tackle the good and bad bits of this film. And we couldn't ignore the fact that we had received a brand new Star Wars trailer a few days before we recorded so couldn't resist the urge to have a quick chat about the upcoming episode 9, hitting cinemas this December.
I have waited a few months to get to review this with as this is a film very close to my heart. Being a huge Queen fan and avid follower of the production of this film over the years, I was so very keen to watch it and talk about it with my podcasting partner. What I saw might surprise a lot of people as I seem to be the only person in the world that didn't think it was amazing. I actually thought it was quite poor. I thought Rami Malek was great as Freddie and did the best he could with a weak script and confused story telling. Although I felt like this I still walked out of the film smiling which is an unusual combination. Check it out for yourself. Enjoy! www.backtothepodcast.co.uk www.facebook.com/backtothepodcast www.instagram.com/backtothepodcast Music credits: Opening - 20th Century Fox - performed by Brian May and Roger Taylor - Bohemian Rhapsody Soundtrack Closing - These Are The Days Of Our Lives (full track) - performed by Queen
We will be attending Walker Stalker live on Saturday 30th March 2019 and here is a little taster of what to expect. www.backtothepodcast.co.uk www.instagram.com/backtothepodcast www.facebook.com/backtothepodcast
In the second of our Oscars specials from 2019 we take a look at Vice. A film that saw Christian Bale gain 40 pounds and do a sterling job portraying Dick Cheney. With a fantastic supporting cast, this film sees Adam McKay bring us his unique style of directing once again, hot off the set of directing The Big Short only a few years before. More Oscar films next week. Enjoy! www.backtothepodcast.co.uk www.instagram.com/backtothepodcast www.facebook.com/backtothepodcast www.twitter.com/back2thepodcast
In these special episodes we take a look at some of the films that are in the spotlight for winning big in this years Oscars and other big awards ceremonies. First into our spotlight is A Star Is Born starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper and directed by Cooper. We have a look at the direction and the details taken to make the musical elements accurate and realistic. It mirrors certain events in Gaga's life which we take a little look at and we look at why this film is a favourite in the awards. Note: this podcast was recorded before the Oscars had aired so no results were known at the time of recording. Music credits Opening - Intro - Bradley Cooper - A Star Is Born Original Soundtrack Closing - Shallow - Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper - A Star Is Born Original Soundtrack www.backtothepodcast.co.uk www.facebook.com/backtothepodcast www.instagram.com/backtothepodcast www.twitter.com/back2thepodcast
This week we take a little look at the Tom Hardy film that split the superhero world last year, Venom. Even in the hands of a talent like Tom Hardy we discuss whether you're film automatically achieves greatness. We discuss the supporting cast and where this confused film fits in the current Marvel, Sony, Columbia, Multi-Verse offering. Stick with it till the end as we have a good chat about an exciting teaser trailer from a little known supernatural film that you may have heard of, Ghostbusters and the confirmed sequel that we have arriving in 2020. We discuss what we want, what we don't want and what we might get. Enjoy!
With our first official podcast of 2019 we take a look at the Netflix original, Birdbox. A film that has swept the world into quite the frenzy and one of Netflix's most successful original releases to date. Starring Sandra Bullock, John Malkovich, and Sarah Paulson this film certainly had a high budget but we ponder on how Netflix's business model can be successful for them. On the face of it, this should be everything Byron likes in a movie but is it another episode of Byron vs the World? Enjoy Music credits: Opening/Closing - Birdbox (Instrumental) - by Jovan Berry www.backtothepodcast.co.uk www.instagram.com/backtothepodcast www.twitter.com/back2thepodcast www.facebook.com/backtothepodcast backtothepodcast@gmail.com

We join you with a Christmas bumper edition of our podcast as we take a look at whats to come throughout the year in 2019. We try to take a few films from all genres although it does seem very Disney heavy in places (they are going to have a great year). Because of the length of this one, we split it into two and will release the second part later this week. Have an amazing Christmas and thank you for all your support throughout the year. www.backtothepodcast.co.uk
With the recent Blu-Ray and Digital release of Mission Impossible Fallout this week, here in the UK we delve into the sixth instalment of the Mission Impossible franchise and see what crazy antics Top Cats getting up to in this one. This was definitely one of the more enjoyable Mission Impossible films with a fantastic cast and incredible action sequences that are as about as real as you can get. Find out what we thought and find out what we think lies ahead for Top Cat and his spy mates. Enjoy! Happy halloween everybody and on this festive day, we had to review the new Halloween film currently in cinemas. Halloween 2018 sees Michael Myers (the shape) escape from prison 40 years to the day since his first rampage to revisit his obsession with Laurie Stroud (Jamie Lee Curtis). With Curtis returning to the role 40 years on we get an insight into what effect a trauma from 40 years ago can have on a woman growing up. Instead of living her life, she spends her years blinded by fear, paranoia and anxiety waiting for the day that Myers might return. And is she ready for him when he finally does. This is the second part to our Halloween double bill with our review of the first film still available online. We take a look if they have taken the same winning formula into the 21st century to attempt to create another classic horror film. This is our first field recording with recordings taking place at Everyman cinema in Esher and on the drive back home immediately after seeing the film. Check us out online at www.backtothepodcast.co.uk www.facebook.com/backtothepodcast www.twitter.com/back2tothepodcast www.instagram.com/backtothepodcast E-Mail - backtothepodcast@gmail.com Music credits: Opening - Michael Kills - John Carpenter, Cody Carpenter & Daniel Davies - Halloween (2018 Soundtrack) Closing - Halloween Triumphant - John Carpenter, Cody Carpenter & Daniel Davies - Halloween (2018 Soundtrack)
We are continuing our spooky season with a look at the the original Halloween paving the way for when we go to see the new one in a couple of weeks. But for now, we are setup in 1978 with a very young Jamie Lee Curtis. Halloween 1978 directed by John Carpenter and still one of the most highly rated horror films of all time. With a stupidly small budget and made a huge riot at the original box office, we take a look at what made this one of the most successful independent films ever made and how Carpenter did so much with so little. We really enjoyed re-watching this one and we urge you to do the same and we hope you enjoy the podcast. In other news, we are now on Spotify. With the first in our run of a few spooky podcasts to celebrate Halloween, we take a look at a little British horror film that graced our cinema screens a while back called Ghost Stories. This film unusually was adapted from a very successful stage show and had interesting techniques to transfer the things that made it so compelling on stage, to the screen. We were both big fans of this film and we have a good old natter as to why that was and some of our favourite bits. Check out the film and then check out this podcast. Do it now!! Enjoy!! www.backtothepodcast.co.uk www.instagram.com/backtothepodcast www.facebook.com/backtothepodcast www.twitter.com/back2thepodcast backtothepodcast@gmail.com
We missed the sideways train when this film first hit the cinemas back in May but we thought the this was too good an opportunity about the Star Wars universe to pass so we take a late look at Solo, the prequel story to the background of much loved Star Wars characters Han Solo, Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian as well a few new characters along the way. This film had a very interesting story from even before the premiers, as it changed its directors and had almost no promotion in the run up to the film at the start of this year. We take a look at the film, the pros and cons but more importantly, where does it leave the current Star Wars universe. Enjoy!! Music credits: Opening - The Adventures Of Han - John Williams - Solo: A Star Wars Story (Original Soundtrack) Closing - Reminiscence Therapy - John Powell - Solo: A Star Wars Story (Original Soundtrack) www.backtothepodcast.co.uk www.facebook.com/backtothepodcast www.twitter.com/back2thepodcast www.instagram/backtothepodcast
We return with a look at the latest offering in the Predator franchise. The Predator (2018) directed and written y Shane Black currently in cinemas so catch it while you can. This film has a relatively split opinion with your two hosts being HUGE predator fans. Many comparisons are drawn between this new offering and the original superior Predator film from 1987. We go into detail about what was great, and what was not. After having a little break, this was a very enjoyable podcast to get back into the swing of things. Enjoy! Music credits: Opening/Closing - The Arrival - Henry Jackman - The Predator EP (Original Soundtrack) www.backtothepodcast.co.uk www.instagram.com/backtothepodcast www.facebook.com/backtothepodcast
We have had a nice break over the Summer and returned with this quirky film from 1986 that has recently surfaced on Netflix for you to enjoy. Howard The Duck was originally a huge failure but in recent years has gained strong cult popularity. We take a look back at a film that was once used to showcase new visual effects for George Lucas but now can feel a little dated. The casting is memorable and this has to be one of the more offensive "family" films we've seen but we both enjoyed reviewing this one. Enjoy!!
To follow on from our review of the first series, we have decided to have a chat about the recent second series of the popular science fiction series, Westworld. This series may have lost its way slightly from the brilliance of the first but there is still a huge amount to talk about and it is still one of the most interesting and well acted shows on TV currently. If you've not already, check it out. FULL SPOILERS for the whole of series 2 lie ahead!! Enjoy Music credits: Opening: Main Title Theme - Ramin Djawadi - Westworld: Season 1 (Music from the HBO® Series) Closing: Heart-Shaped Box - Ramin Djawadi - Westworld: Season 2 (Music from the HBO® Series)
We return once again with a look at one of our favourites from the 80's. John Badham's, Stakeout from 1987 was a fantastic buddy/odd couple cop movie starring Emilio Estevez and Richard Dreyfuss. We take a look at the genre and how it would look today if it were to be remade and challenge some of the themes that may seem a little dated today. On another note, we now have a website!! You can find it at www.backtothepodcast.co.uk and it acts as a central hub for all of our activity. You can download the podcast, see our insta and twitter feed and check out our brand new blog. There is more to come for the website as well so keep an eye on it. Enjoy!! Music credits: Opening - Higher Love - Stevie Winwood - Stakeout Original Soundtrack Closing - Rhythm Is Gonna Get You - Gloria Estefan - Stakeout Original Soundtrack www.backtothepodcast.co.uk www.twitter.com/back2thepodcast www.instagram.com/backtothepodcast www.facebook.com/backtothepodcast E-mail us direct at backtothepodcast@gmail.com
This week we have decided to bring you something a little different with the Netflix's own, Annihilation starring Natalie Portman. Released several months ago, this straight to streaming movie had a mixed bag of opinions and reviews. We delve into the unusual world that is brought to us by Netflix this time and look at this strange science fiction. Enjoy!!
We are back with a look at Steven Spielberg 32nd film, Ready Player One. A effects heavy adventure film that came out in the Easter holidays this year. With more hidden Easter eggs than the easter bunnies closet this film has film lovers foaming at the mouth. As well as these extras we also take a look at how this film could very easily mimic our society and how we might be looking into our future. After that we take a look at a series that was released on YouTube Red of all places and is set thirty years after the events of the first Karate Kid movie. This series is called Cobra Kai and features a lot of the same cast from the original film. Quite a few 80's throwbacks in this episode. Enjoy!
We bring you another one our favourites and a classic film from 1983, War Games starring Matthew Broderick. A film that we believe to be completely ahead of its time and even though appears to be a film of its time, still very poignant today. Go and check the film, and then come back and check us. Enjoy!
Welcome back movie fans, returning this week with a review on Black Panther. The film that shook the world back in Febuary and smashed a ton of records and has quite possibly re-shaped many films in the future. We take a look at the casting of this film as well as the not one great villain, but two great villains. Behind the glossy production design of Wakanda we also delve into the James Bond style technology and Q-type gadgets gifted to us by Shuri. After our chat about Black Panther, we also take a look at the feud taking place in a current American TV show and why it seems that many other TV shows are dropping like flies. Lots to get through. Spoilers ahead although we don't do any spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War. Enjoy! Music credits: Opening - Wakanda Origins - Ludwig Göransson - Black Panther (Original Score) Closing - Spaceship Bugatti - Ludwig Göransson - Black Panther (Original Score)
We return this week to take a look the musical film, The Greatest Showman which came out on Boxing Day here in the UK and has been a confident and persistent presence in movie theatres since then. This week we see it released onto Blu-Ray and DVD and it is expected to break even more records. With an insanely catchy soundtrack and a fantastic cast, we take a look at what made audiences return again and again to see this magical film. We don't do many musicals at Back To The Podcast but most of the ones we have reviewed have starred Hugh Jackman. Enjoy!! Music credits: Opening - The Greatest Show - Pasek & Paul - The Greatest Showman (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) Closing - Come Alive - Pasek & Paul - The Greatest Showman (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
It's the movie event of the year and with Avengers Infinity War looking to smash all records, here is our take on huge sci-fi, comic book journey, Infinity War. We are lucky to be joined by Danny Buckler who is a professional comedian but also an expert and huge fan of all things comic book. This was a really fun one to record and we hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed recording it. Music credits: Opening - The Avengers - Alan Silvestri - Avengers Assemble (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) Closing - Infinity War - Alan Silvestri - Avengers: Infinity War (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
We have delved into a film thats a little different from our usual podcast offering. WE decided to take a look at Darkest Hour released at the end of last year which saw Gary Oldman to go on and win his first Oscar for best actor for portraying Winston Churchill in this gritty, political drama about the first few months of Churchill in office as Prime Minister. This was a wonderful film and nice to see something a bit different on our screens that can still be very poignant today. Enjoy! Music credits: Opening/Closing: We Shall Fight - Dario Marianelli - Darkest Hour (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
With the season finale of The Walking Dead season 8 airing last night, we thought we would do a quick summary of what we liked and dislike of the latest series of the much loved zombie TV-series. This series has not resonated as well with audiences as previous series and we take a look as to why that may be. We also have a discussion about what we might come to expect in series 9. Full spoilers ahead for the all series of the Walking Dead. Enjoy!
Well for this week we attempt to unravel Valerian, and you can probably tell by our opening that we are now fans of this film. We felt like it was a few wasted opportunities. Go and see for yourself what we thought was wrong with this movie but we felt it was a real shame as it could have been something far better than we got. Subscribe for future episodes and enjoy!
We return this week to take a look at a little un-noticed gem that was released quietly onto Netflix and we think deserves a little praise. This week we look at The Cloverfield Paradox, which is the third instalment of the Cloverfield series of films. This is a series that we have grown to love quite a bit after the phenomenal 10 Cloverfield Lane a couple of years ago. It looks to be that Netflix has taken the reigns of these films now so we are hopeful for more wonderful things to come in the future. In this instalment, it is the first one set in space and a ship gets caught up in a multiverse blackhole which causes chaos around the ship. With a fantastic cast and brilliant production design we discuss at length what makes these films surprise us time and time again. Music credits: Opening/Closing - The Cloverfield Paradox - Bear McCreary - The Cloverfield Paradox Original Soundtrack
In this weeks episode we bring you something a little different for us at BTTP. We take a look at the little bear that everybody is talking about and is arguably one of the best British films of 2017. We are of course talking about Paddington 2. Follow up to the 2014 film Paddington where we meet the Brown family and first see the CGI bear voiced by Ben Whishaw. The sequel sees an all star cast show their love for the bear and we discuss just why this film has had such a success. If you have missed it then this film also gets discussed in our annual awards podcast which was released earlier this year. Still available to download for free. Enjoy! Music credits: Opening: The Pop-Up Book - Dario Marianelli - Paddington 2 (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) Closing: Jumping The Line - Tobago & D'Lime - Paddington 2 (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
We return with a look at possibly one of the most loved and popular TV series to grace our screens and streaming devices in recent years, Stranger Things. With two series now available on Netflix we dive into everything available so far so full spoilers ahead. But we chat openly about the youth within the casting and the production design choices. And obviously, it wouldn't be one of our podcasts if we didn't take a look at the many MANY references from much loved 80s films and TV and how the surfaced an appearance throughout the two series. We do try to cover quite a lot and we d jump around a bit but thats how we roll. We hope you enjoy!
