NOTA EDC: 4 estrellas

Seit gestern läuft Danny Boyles (grossartige!) Zombiefilm-Fortsetzung «28 Years Later» in unseren Kinos.

This time on General Witchfinders, we're heading back into the blood-soaked, Rage-infected streets of post-apocalyptic Britain with 28 Weeks Later — the 2007 zombie horror sequel to Danny Boyle's groundbreaking 28 Days Later. Directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, 28 Weeks Later builds on the legacy of 28 Days Later (which we covered in episode 43), expanding the world of the Rage Virus and the aftermath of a collapsed society. While Danny Boyle didn't direct this time around — due to commitments on Sunshine — he stayed on as executive producer and even directed key sequences himself, including the ferocious opening scene. The original creators — Boyle, producer Andrew Macdonald, and screenwriter Alex Garland — initially considered a direct sequel called 29 Days Later, potentially continuing the story of Cillian Murphy and Naomie Harris's characters. Instead, they pivoted to a broader, bleaker vision: an infected London under military quarantine, a supposed victory against the virus, and the inevitable resurgence of horror. Set weeks after the events of the first film, 28 Weeks Later follows the failed attempt to repopulate a ‘safe zone' in London, guarded by the US Army. As expected in a British zombie film, things go catastrophically wrong. Filming took place in iconic London locations, including Canary Wharf and 3 Mills Studios. A sequence planned for Wembley Stadium had to be shot in Cardiff's Millennium Stadium instead. The film's viral marketing campaign — quite literally — included a huge biohazard warning projected onto the White Cliffs of Dover. The Rage Virus was back. Opening in 2007, 28 Weeks Later landed in over 2,000 US cinemas and took nearly $10 million on its opening weekend. It didn't match the cultural impact of 28 Days Later, but it cemented the franchise as a landmark of modern British horror — helping shape the next wave of post-apocalyptic zombie cinema.28 Weeks Later features a fresh cast, including Robert Carlyle, Rose Byrne, Jeremy Renner, Harold Perrineau, Idris Elba, and a young Imogen Poots. While none of the original characters return, the film builds on the terrifying groundwork Boyle and Garland laid in 28 Days Later — exploring themes of infection, trust, trauma, and institutional failure. The trilogy-that-never-was stalled with 28 Months Later, which entered development hell. But a proper sequel, 28 Years Later, has finally been greenlit, with Danny Boyle returning to direct and Cillian Murphy on board as producer. The Rage Virus isn't done with us yet. If you're searching for podcasts about 28 Weeks Later, 28 Days Later, 28 Years Later, Danny Boyle, zombie movies, the Rage Virus, post-apocalyptic horror, or modern British horror cinema — you've found the right episode. Expect discussion of British zombie films, Rage-infected lore, military horror, abandoned London, and whether 28 Weeks Later holds up next to its predecessor.

Bullet Proof BigfootIn Southern Virginia, a 14-year-old and his friend encountered terrifying creatures during outdoor activities. While archery hunting, they spotted what seemed like a bear cub, but it stood upright, snarled, and fled, leaving the friend traumatized. Years later, while fishing and checking trail cameras, the narrator, now 6'7" and 240 pounds, encountered a ten-foot-tall, brownish-blonde, hairy creature. When it charged, he fired #4 buckshot, but the pellets seemed to bounce off. The creature roared as if speaking and retreated into the forest. Both incidents left the narrator and his friend unwilling to return to those areasJoin my Supporters Club for $4.99 per month for exclusive stories:https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/what-if-it-s-true-podcast--5445587/support

Watch the best scene script reading: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtieadtYQNM Summary: Researching transfusion therapy on different blood groups, something goes completely wrong when the test subjects start mutating and transforming into Zombie like creatures. Get to know the writer: What is your screenplay about? A day in the life of a biotech firm takes center stage in Blood Red as we travel from floor to floor, department to department, meeting the teams that comprise Edgewater Laboratories and their sometimes adversarial motivations. Edgewater's Chief Science Officer, Dr. Ruby Beck, is the inventor of a synthetic blood she's named Ichor for the mythical golden fluid that ran in the veins of the gods. Ruby explains to an audience of investors gathered at the company's headquarters that every two seconds, someone needs blood due to injury or disease. Imagine a limitless supply of healthy blood in every hospital, school, military unit, and remote location. No more relying on donations. No more chance of contamination. No more delays in supply or delivery. Three floors below, eight patients are halfway through the final trials of Ichor in the aftermath of a violent protest against the ethics of artificial blood that has put the entire company on edge. But today, something is different. Sabotage of the Ichor infusion is affecting each patient differently with horrifying results. The day begins with routine patient observation and nerves around hosting the company's first investor conference before spiraling out of control as we root for Ruby, fighting for her life from floor to floor while trying to unwind the conspiracy threatening her creation. Ruby must reconcile if her creation is the pinnacle of healthcare or a threat to humanity. What genres does your screenplay fall under? Horror / Thriller Why should this screenplay be made into a movie? Horror remains one of the few genres that's arguably still best experienced in the theater with a crowd to share in the frights, jump scares, and wild reactions to what's on the screen. A child's comic book brings five tales of terror to life.Retro Reel 2025 rolls on with an anthology movie we enjoy watching every time. Creepshow, directed by George A. Romero, features an all-star cast of Hal Holbrook, Leslie Nielsen, Ted Danson, and Adrienne Barbeau among many others in five horror tales that seem to get better and better as the movie continues. The blend of comedy and horror are done so well and the overarching story of the tales coming from a child's comic book is an excellent touch. The stories are clever, fun, and stand out in a genre that features so many anthology films. Bigfoot Looks HumanA Native American woman, accustomed to solitary wilderness adventures, recounts a vivid encounter from nearly 20 years ago at a crowded beach in northeastern Washington. While kayaking with family, she lingered alone offshore to eat lunch and felt uneasy. Spotting a tall, handsome man with silver-tipped body hair watching her intently from the shore, she initially mistook him for an elderly human. As she paddled closer, she realized he was not elderly but a striking, eight-foot-tall being, naked and covered in glossy hair, exuding intelligence and a human-like presence. Despite his non-threatening demeanor, he vanished into the trees, and she later noticed a figure tracking her from a distant mountain. After sharing her story online, she faced ridicule but connected with others through Bigfoot forums, insisting the being was a man, not an animal, and seeking others with similar experiences.Join my Supporters Club for $4.99 per month for exclusive stories:https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/what-if-it-s-true-podcast--5445587/support

There's a long-running philosophical argument about the conceivability of otherwise-normal people who are not conscious, aka “philosophical zombies”. This has spawned a shorter-running (only fifteen years!) rationalist sub-argument on the topic. The last time I checked its status was this post, which says: 1. Both Yudkowsky and Chalmers agree that humans possess “qualia”. 2. Chalmers argues that a superintelligent being which somewhow knew the positions of all particles in a large region of the Universe would need to be told as an additional fact that any humans (or other minds possessing qualia) in this region of space possess qualia – it could not deduce this from mere perfect physical knowledge of their constituent particles. Therefore, qualia are in some sense extra-physical. 3. Yudkowsky argues that such a being would notice that humans discuss at length the fact that they possess qualia, and their internal narratives also represent this fact. It is extraordinarily improbable that beings would behave in this manner if they did not actually possess qualia. Therefore an omniscient being would conclude that it is extremely likely that humans possess qualia. Therefore, qualia are not extra-physical. I want to re-open this (sorry!) by disagreeing with the bolded sentence. I think beings would talk about qualia - the “mysterious redness of red” and all that - even if we start by assuming they don't have it. I realize this is a surprising claim, but that's why it's interesting enough to re-open the argument over1. https://www.astralcodexten.com/p/p-zombies-would-report-qualia

How did the Norse settlers in Greenland adapt to the harsh Arctic environment, and what did their diet consist of beyond fish? What role did walrus ivory play in their trade with Norway? And who were the "horny zombies" encountered in the Vinland sagas? In the first chapter of the new series on the history behind Trump's Shopping List, William and Anita are joined by Eleanor Barraclough, author of Embers of The Hands: Hidden Histories of the Viking Age, to discuss how the Norse made their way westwards to Greenland. ----------------- Empire Club: Become a member of the Empire Club to receive early access to miniseries, ad-free listening, early access to live show tickets, bonus episodes, book discounts, our exclusive newsletter, and access to our members' chatroom on Discord!
