Episode 56: The "Out With 2015, In With 2016" Podcast – Gary and Gene begin this end-of-2015 into-2016 episode with a look back at Gary's extensive travels to the Orient over the past year: visiting a number of countries in Asia where he and Cindy brought the message of A Course in Miracles to large numbers of people, many of them entirely new to the Course's teachings. Gary notes how important it is that new students of the Course get started with an accurate assessment of what the Course is saying, instead of starting off the process with major misunderstandings of what should be basic principles. — The conversation then moves into a very thorough, extended discussion of a number of current would-be "teachers" of ACIM who completely misrepresent the actual teachings of the Course, while claiming to present "improved" or "corrected" versions of Jesus' intended curriculum. Gary makes some eye-opening points that clarify a great many areas of controversy. He also explains in detail some of the facts surrounding the Course's inception, and how the original editing of the Course took place. There is quite a bit of deep discussion involving the core principles of the Course's teaching; and Gary reiterates the very important idea that the Course does not need to be interpreted…but it does need to be understood.AND: Please go to Facebook and "Like" our page for The Gary Renard Podcast and Forgiveness.tv! https://www.facebook.com/TheGaryRenardPodcastAndForgivenesstv~And sign up for our email/newsletter list at http://www.Forgiveness.tv
Episode 55: The "Springing into Questions!" Podcast – As promised for this episode, Gary and Gene focus on questions sent in by podcast listeners. There's a brief discussion up front touching on numerology, music, movies… but the conversation VERY quickly turns to A Course in Miracles, and of course, forgiveness. Our first question for Gary concerns forgiving family members, especially when the grievances have existed for a long time. Gary's answer involves the necessarily repetitive nature of the forgiveness process, and how the Holy Spirit is always working with us behind the scenes, whether we are consciously aware of it or not. Gene adds some comments about the "split mind" being healed a little bit, every time we forgive. Next question asks for Gary to explain the Course's position regarding dreams and their interpretation. The answer involves the Course's teaching that we understand that recognition of the fact that we are dreaming should be our true goal. Our next listener question asks about feelings of depression and even suicidal thoughts, both of which seem to have become more intense since studying the Course. Gary's response reminds us that these kinds of thoughts and feelings always come from the ego, and it's critically important to consistently recognize this as such. The Holy Spirit will always offer a happy replacement for any negative thought the ego puts in our way. Gary's closing thoughts remind us to always look at "the big picture" that the Course is showing us, rather than focusing on the little obstacles with which the ego would attempt to distract us. Episode 54: The "Merry February!" Podcast – If this show has an unexpected "holiday season" flavor to it, that's because it was recorded during the Christmas-New Year period…even though it's now being released in February. This is due to a variety of reasons that we won't go into here…but nevertheless, enjoy the belated Holiday cheer! ~ The program gets underway very quickly with some impromptu discussion of forgiveness, and the challenges often encountered when applying forgiveness to painful worldly events. Gary provides a few quotes from the Course that address the forgiveness process. Gary then talks about his new writing schedule, and about an upcoming trip to China, where both the Course and DU are gaining an enthusiastic following. There's also discussion about the Course's reception in other Asian countries. The conversation turns to the ACIM teaching that "the script is written", and how this applies to what seems like a series of coincidences here in the world—and how it is only from the Holy Spirit's perspective that "the big picture" can be seen and understood. Then, a "Question for Gary" asks, if God is not aware of our seeming, mistaken illusion of separation, time, and space, then how can He offer a correction for it? Gary's answer addresses the real nature of the Holy Spirit and His role in the correction of the ego's illusory thought system. Gary's closing comments suggest aligning ourselves with the practicality of the Holy Spirit's forgiveness process in everything we seem to do here in the world. Episode 53: The "Questions for Gary at Christmas!" Podcast – As promised in the last show (Ep. 52), Gary and Gene devote an entire podcast to questions submitted by listeners; some just recently, and some from the archives. The first several brief questions come from the same listener: How do we know when the ego has been undone? When the Course says to "forgive the world", does that mean we are to renounce the world? Does the ego love the body…or wish to kill it? And, how can I see beyond the body when I am in physical pain, or even emotional distress? The next question comes from a listener in Argentina who asks, "If I get healed in regard to a problem I'm having, will I simply find another problem in 'the script' that will be just as painful?" Next question asks: If God is in communication with me all the time, why don't I hear God? Why don't I feel God? Next: A question regarding something Pursah said about massage techniques. (Gene's lovely wife Helen will enjoy hearing this one!) Final question (for this episode) asks about increasing one's ability to forgive, but perhaps in doing so, minimizing one's ability to quiet the mind: What is the best balance between focusing on forgiveness opportunities, and quieting the mind through meditation? Then, unexpectedly, the podcast receives two very special guests! (You'll have to listen to find out who.) Gary's closing comments reflect on the Course teaching that we should all begin to make things different this year, by making everything "all the same." Episode 52: The "Spirits of Autumn" Podcast – Released in November, this episode was actually recorded before Halloween, which seems appropriate…because some supernatural occurrences will be discussed during the show! But the program begins with Gary recapping his recent tour of Europe, including an ACIM conference in Greece that featured Gary and three other presenters. (Gary says that the best part about participating in conferences is getting to meet people from the ACIM community from all over the world.) His travels also took Gary to Finland and to Paris, one of his favorite cities, which Gary describes as having been "designed by artists." Back stateside, Gary and Cindy visited Berkeley, CA for an ACIM gathering hosted by Cindy's Mom, Doris Lora; Gary mentions that Cindy's sister Jackie is developing a new TV series for the Internet, and Gary speaks about a series of magazine articles he is now writing about the Course. Gary and Gene then both speak about handling the "negative" occurrences in the world from an ACIM perspective; they also turn to the topic of "natural" disasters like the ebola outbreak, and how we should apply forgiveness even—perhaps especially—in such challenging circumstances. There is a "spook-tacular" Question for Gary regarding ghosts, demons, and exorcisms, with the listener wanting to know how these phenomena can be understood from a Course perspective. Gary's answer includes a personal story about contact with an actual ghost! Gary's closing comments emphasize the importance of gratitude in living life as someone studying and practicing A Course in Miracles. Episode 51: "The Suicide Podcast" – This show commences not long after the tragic death of beloved comedian and actor Robin Williams, and Gary and Gene use the opportunity as a platform to discuss the concepts of death and suicide from A Course in Miracles perspective. Before that discussion begins, however, Gary takes a few moments to talk about his upcoming trip to Europe, and chats a bit about his experiences traveling the world as a student and teacher of the Course. The conversation somehow transitions to the topic of animals, wild and domestic… before returning to the topic at hand: that of death, and the tragic circumstance of suicide. Gary and Gene speak with candor, as well as with both humor and gravity, and touch on aspects of depression and suicide ranging from psychology to pharmacology to spirituality. Interestingly, the Course itself never mentions suicide directly; but it does speak extensively about death, and the ego's fixation on it. The Course teaches very specifically that death is never the answer to any problem, and that any trials we may face in life are just "lessons presented once again", until we eventually correct them permanently via the forgiveness process. Gary stresses the importance of actually practicing forgiveness in the way ACIM directs, and assures listeners that the process becomes easier and more joyful the longer one practices it. Gary and Gene both reminisce about the wonderful qualities that Robin Williams demonstrated and embodied; and Gene closes the show with a reminder that unlike forgiveness (which is "always the answer"), suicide is almost "never" the answer. Episode 50: "The 50th Podcast!" Gary and Gene celebrate the milestone of their 50th podcast together, and take a look back at how their very first show started things off. Gene notes how "formal" the first episode felt, when compared to the looser feel of more recent shows; but he and Gary both note the lightheartedness that the podcast series has had right from the beginning. Gary makes mention of some of the changes that have occurred over time at the DU yahoo discussion group, and he and Gene discuss the Course's teaching that laughter is the Holy Spirit's principle means for dispelling the ego's belief in seriousness. The discussion includes some close examination of the ACIM concepts of not making the world real, not "needing" to do anything in the world, and not actually needing a body, even while we appear to be inhabiting bodies. This all ties in with the concept of "being in the world but not of it." Both hosts discuss the 50 Miracle Principles which are found at the very beginning of the Text of the Course, and use this as a springboard to talk about some of the Course's deeper teachings. Gary mentions his second speaking trip to Japan, and discusses some of the differences as well as similarities between ACIM and Buddhism. Both hosts stress the importance of applying the Course's teachings about forgiveness to everything that appears to happen in the world, regardless of the apparent severity of the situation at hand. Gary and Gene close out this 50th Episode with some reflections on cats, on the podcast series, and a look forward to new upcoming episodes.AND: Please go to Facebook and "Like" our page for The Gary Renard Podcast and Forgiveness.tv! https://www.facebook.com/TheGaryRenardPodcastAndForgivenesstv
Episode 49: "The Christmas/New Year 2014" Podcast. This show begins at the close of 2013 with a special visitor for Gary (Hint: this fellow travels in a sleigh!); and then Gene invites Gary to update everyone on his latest book, "Love Has Forgotten No One." Gary discusses teachings contained within the book, and also shares some advice he received from Arten and Pursah regarding handling criticism from people both inside as well as outside the ACIM community. Gary mentions that his teachers emphasize throughout the book that we must continuously remind ourselves "not to make the world real", when we are faced with challenging situations or people. As the Course teaches, we are always replacing the thought system of the ego with the thought system of the Holy Spirit. Gary then discusses his plans for the unfolding New Year, including some of the traveling destinations he and Cindy will be visiting. Gene and Gary both spend some time stressing the importance of actually practicing the Course's teachings, and acknowledge that it requires a long-time commitment if one is going to achieve the goals the Course sets forth. Gary closes this episode out by reading the beloved quotation from ACIM: "The sign of Christmas is a star, a light in darkness", and then gives explanation as to the real meaning of these beautiful words.AND: Please go to Facebook and "Like" our page for The Gary Renard Podcast and Forgiveness.tv! https://www.facebook.com/TheGaryRenardPodcastAndForgivenesstv
Episode 48: "The Transcending Time" Podcast. The explanation for this title will be revealed later in the episode... but Gary kicks the show off with some breaking news about the release of his new book, "Love Has Forgotten No One", including discussion about the book's simultaneous international publication. The conversation turns to the topic of A Course in Miracles (as it always does!), and Gene and Gary explore the nature and application of forgiveness here in the world. Gary reveals some of his own forgiveness lessons that he writes about in the new book. Gene reveals some new insights he has gained since experiencing his near-death medical event, and shares revelations about the personal experience of time while here in the physical world. And time, then, for Questions for Gary (and Gene, too.) First question comes from a listener in the Netherlands, who asks for guidance about applying the forgiveness process some time AFTER the grievance has occurred. Both co-hosts offer some powerful ideas about how to apply forgiveness at ANY time, and under any circumstances. Next question addresses the quandary of avoiding the ego's traps even while being involved in seemingly "positive" endeavors. Gary's answer reinforces the concept of remaining "above the battlefield" in all worldly activities. At this point in the show, a special guest joins the program: Cindy Lora-Renard! For her first official guest appearance in a podcast episode, Cindy speaks about her expanded role as a fellow presenter at Gary's events; she also reveals how the nature of these events has been evolving into a more interactive experience with everyone who is in attendance. Cindy and Gene discuss the peace that comes from having practiced forgiveness... even, as in Gene's experience, at the point of death or other challenging occurrence. Cindy shares the importance of kindness in all of our relationships; and the importance of developing trust that the Holy Spirit will provide an answer to any question we have, if we will be still and await the appropriate time to receive it. Gary rejoins the show to provide a closing quote from the ACIM Text, "The Forgotten Song." Episode 47: "The Summer 2013" Podcast. For some reason, Gary and Gene begin this episode with a few funny stories relating to author Wayne Dyer (a very humorous man in his own right.) Gary gives an update on progress for his upcoming book, and also speaks about Hay House, the publisher. Then, the conversation quickly turns to Course topics. Gary and Gene discuss the fact that in the world we see, very few "teachers" actually stick to teaching what the Course truly presents, and so often attempt to blend other practices and thought systems into their teachings… and that this is NOT the fastest way to reach the experiences that the Course is leading us toward. The ACIM-based discussion addresses the seemingly sequential nature of different lifetimes, which in actuality, are not sequential at all. Forgiveness is discussed (of course!), and we see that practicing forgiveness is really fulfilling "our part" in the Holy Spirit's perfect plan. The conversation touches on the worldwide translations of A Course in Miracles, and Gary talks about the multi-language simultaneous release of his upcoming book, "Love Has Forgotten No One." Gary wraps the show up with some thoughts about the importance of doing whatever it is we do, always with the Holy Spirit as our guide and companion. Episode 46: "The Spring Ahead" Podcast. Gary and Gene start off by discussing the now-official release date for Gary's long awaited third book, "Love Has Forgotten No One." Gary explains that, although many people have been frustrated by the long wait, he feels that the extra time involved made for a much better book, and one that is very much the book he wanted it to be. (The book will be released by Hay House on Oct. 8, 2013.) Gary mentions Gene's CD recording "The End of Sacrifice" from the Text of ACIM… and then updates everyone on progress with the DU TV series. And then it's time for "Questions for Gary!" First up: since it is Pursah's statement that she became enlightened during her (future) lifetime, then if Gary became enlightened in THIS lifetime, would that mean that Pursah would never be born? Gary answers with a great deal of detailed information about the nature and process of reincarnation itself. The next question follows up by asking about what happens at the point of death, and how does enlightenment fit into that process? Third question asks about forgiveness work done in this lifetime, and if one does not achieve enlightenment this time around, will it lessen the amount of work that needs to be done in a future lifetime? Gary's answer involves the cumulative nature of the forgiveness process. Gary's closing message encourages all "spiritual people" to give each other a break, and be kinder and less judgmental in the way we deal with others… since all forgiveness is ultimately self-forgiveness.AND: Please go to Facebook and "Like" our page for The Gary Renard Podcast and Forgiveness.tv!https://www.facebook.com/TheGaryRenardPodcastAndForgivenesstv
Episode 45: "The End of Sacrifice" Podcast. Episode 45 begins with Gary talking about not really being "the bad boy of spirituality", as he was once described; but rather only being a spiritual pilgrim, just like anybody else… and simply being one who enjoys having a good time as much as anyone. Gary gives high praise to the newly released movie, "Lincoln," and talks about his and Cindy's upcoming holiday trip to Ohio. Gary discusses some of the issues he has encountered with various translations of his books, including into Russian. Gary then brings up the news about Gene's new CD recording, "The End of Sacrifice", Gene's narration from the Text of ACIM—particularly appropriate for release at this time of year, because it includes the well-known section from the Course known as "Christmas as the End of Sacrifice." Gary and Gene expand the conversation into the Course's teachings regarding the concepts of guilt and sacrifice, and all the subtlety that the Course brings to the understanding of these ideas. Gary's mention of Gene and Helen's recent 14th wedding anniversary leads into a discussion of relationships, and how human relationships can beautifully transform into Holy Relationships under the Holy Spirit's guidance. Gary then discusses the importance of the date December 21st, and its significance in his relationship with Arten and Pursah. There is discussion about the upcoming TV series based on "The Disappearance of the Universe", and its new website, "DOTUTV.com", where the first promotional trailers for the show will soon be seen. Gary reveals some new details about members of the show's cast, and speaks about the attitudes of the various people working on the TV series. Gary closes out this episode of the podcast with some thoughts about gratitude, and how it all applies to this remarkable Holiday season.
Episode 44: "The Post-Election Podcast." Episode 44 begins with Gary and Gene discussing the recent presidential election results, and contrasting the way the world generally views such things with how they can be seen in a very different light from a Course in Miracles perspective. Also discussed: how such seemingly important issues as the body's health and our financial status can also be viewed quite differently after understanding the Course's teachings. Questions for Gary include: Clearing up confusion about the finality of "the script" of our lives, and who it is that determines how and when things play out—the ego mind, or the Holy Spirit? And after some discussion about Gary and Cindy's newly released meditation CD (as well as the first mention of a new audio CD that Gene will be releasing soon), a listener inquires about some of Gary's other recent and upcoming audio projects, and when they will be available as digital downloads. Gary brings this episode's discussions to a close by reiterating the principle that we can indeed choose forgiveness right in this very moment, if we are committed to supplying the willingness to allow the HS to clarify for us that which is the eternal truth, and that which is only illusion.
Episode 43: "Gary, Gene, and the Podcast Live Again!" The podcast returns after a lengthy hiatus, following Gene's near-death medical crisis of last Summer (August 2011). Gary begins the show discussing Gene's revelatory experiences, and discussing in depth how this was a wonderful example of putting the Course's teachings into practice — being able to experience peace at all times, even when facing an extreme circumstance. The conversation takes a lighter turn when Gary brings up Gene's new book, "A Golf Course in Miracles", which was released while Gene was recovering from surgery; and then Gary talks about his recent schedule, and how it has allowed him to focus on his writing, and also on counseling activities. The talk about counseling also touches on why anything effectively "therapeutic" that takes place in the world is really being coordinated in one way or another by the Holy Spirit. After a bit more chat together, Gary and Gene transition into the recording of the "Podcast at Sea", taped during 2011's cruise to the Greek Islands and the Mediterranean. After some introductory remarks the conversation turns to A Course in Miracles, and about how the Course as well as Gary's books seem to resonate so well with people from all over the world. Both Gary and Gene discuss the Course's effectiveness and practicality in dealing with the challenges of life and spirituality. Then it is time for "Questions for Gary!" First question asks about the differences between "waking dreams" (our daily "life") and the dreams we have at night. Gary's answer touches on the important concept that ALL our dreams are simply that: just dreams… and if we can begin to see that our sleeping dreams are not real, even while we are experiencing them, then we are getting very close to realizing that our "waking" dream-state is really no different. (More Questions for Gary from the "Podcast at Sea" will be coming up in our next podcast episode.)
Episode 42: "Gary's Belated Birthday!" Actually, it's 'twice belated', as this show was recorded a couple of weeks after Gary's birthday, but then not completed and released until several weeks after that! Thank God time is only an illusion… Interestingly, Gary reminds Gene and our listeners that it has now been 18 years since Arten and Pursah first began to appear to him! And an enlightening 18 years it has been, indeed. Gary speaks a bit about the ACIM conference he attended in San Francisco not long ago, and then recounts some interesting details about his recent 'jury duty' experience! Gary and Gene then discuss March's devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan, and how best to process these types of concepts and images from an ACIM perspective. Then it's time for a couple of 'Questions for Gary' which include: Are other paths to enlightenment (including certain forms of yoga) consistent with the teachings of A Course in Miracles? Next question asks about "divine intervention", and angels… According to Gary's ascended masters, are these concepts aligned with what is presented in ACIM?
Episode 41: January 2011… The first podcast of the New Year! Gary begins by telling Gene and the listeners about some of his recent travels, including his first trip to South America, including Argentina! He talks about how the Course is becoming more popular all the time in the countries he and Cindy visit. Gary discusses how the beginning of a new year is a wonderful time to re-commit to one's study of A Course in Miracles, and also mentions his own recent experiences in this regard. Gary asks Gene to discuss his (Gene's) rather severe recent episode of vertigo, which has persisted for several days at the time of this podcast recording. After Gene describes his experiences, Gary addresses the fact that these kinds of physical symptoms can be the direct result of one's spiritual growth and progress, and reads several selections from the Course that directly speak to this kind of phenomena. Gary then announces that Arten and Pursah had just visited him the day before this podcast recording was made! They have given him material which is "the icing on the cake" for his fourth book (and Gary says yes, he knows that people are still awaiting his third book, and that he'll have an announcement about that soon!) Gary then talks about the Course as it relates to the "New Year", and reads two paragraphs from the Course that address this time of year. Then, it's time for "Questions for Gary." First up: how does a person practice forgiveness, and see someone as pure and innocent, if they murdered a member of your family? Next: how can we truly "live" our lives from a Course perspective, and not appear to be a "nutter" (as our listener put it) to everyone else in the world? Is it possible for ourselves to operate quietly within the Course's thought system, without trying to foist it upon others? Gary closes out this first show of the new year with some thoughts from the Course regarding, "making this year different by making it all the same"… as in, seeing everything and everyone as being in reality the One perfect creation of God, without separation.
Episode 40: Our 40th podcast episode begins with Gary recapping his recent, extensive (26-day) trip to Europe, where he visited Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark. Even since his return from Europe, Gary (along with Cindy) has already visited Boston and Canada. Gary talks a bit about his plans for traveling less often in the coming year… but admits he and Cindy may just find time to take a relaxing visit to Hawaii sometime this winter! Gene then brings up an interesting upcoming event, "Gary Renard in the Heart of Hollywood", taking place on October 16th (2010), where Gary, along with Cindy, will be speaking and performing over the course of an entire day in a classic theatre one block off Hollywood Blvd. Gary talks a bit about his playing guitar and performing alongside Cindy, and also discusses a new music CD that he and Cindy are producing together. Gary then expands the topic into that of relationships in general, and how, from an ACIM perspective, people can deal with their "worldly" relationships while moving ever closer to "holy relationships." A listener's "question for Gary" is right in alignment with this discussion, as it asks how married guys like Gene and Gary handle the "romantic" aspects of married life, while also dealing with these complex relationships in a Course-centered way. The questioner also asks Gene, "Is forgiveness really the only answer?" Gene's response involves a quote from ACIM Lesson 271, and how forgiveness is ultimately a "letting go" of all illusory perception, in favor of the vision of Christ. Gary's closing thought is for people to remember that when they are thinking of or seeing anyone else, they are seeing God, and not just partially, but in totality; and when we can think of others in this way, we learn that it is the best way to experience ourselves as well.
Episode 39: "Summertime Blues... for the Ego!" This episode was recorded while Gary was "on top of Mount Shasta", which is, as he describes it, "one of the most spiritual places on Earth." Gary talks about the beauty of the area, and about the wonderful people he and Cindy are visiting while there. A trip to Vermont is next on their agenda, to be quickly followed by another visit to Europe, including stops in Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, and Finland. Questions for Gary include: Are other spiritual thought systems, such as Hawaii's Hoʻoponopono, and some systems taught by other ascended masters, anything like the forgiveness-based thought system as taught in A Course in Miracles? Next, if it's true that we are actually projecting everything we seem to see and experience, is it possible to change the dream we seem to see by applying forgiveness to our thoughts? Can we literally create our own "happy dream"? And then: How do we apply forgiveness in a practical way to an immediate and personal situation, where the "issues of the world" are right in our face and demand a world-focused response from us? At the close of the show, Gene and Gary discuss the tentative release date for Gary's long-awaited third book!
Episode 38: "Our Second Podcast at Sea!" Recorded while aboard the beautiful MS Oosterdam, during Gary's cruise to Mexico; also known as the "South of the Border" cruise, alternatively called, "We Don't Need No Steenkeeng Ego!" As you will hear, 'a splendid time was had by All.' Our podcast at sea features a number of Questions for Gary, a great deal of Course-based discussion, and as might be expected, a lot of laughter and joy-filled interaction among all of us who became, as we have on our previous cruises together, just like a loving, extended family. This "live" recording really captures the energy and spontaneity of Gary and Gene creating a podcast with the involvement of a live audience.
Episode 37: "March Madness of the Ego!" As we say, March Madness is a lot of fun for sports fans on Earth... but the madness of the ego is no fun for anybody, anywhere. (This was also the theme of this month's conference call.) Gary starts off this podcast by telling Gene all about Austin, Texas (where he is visiting, as this episode is recorded), and then talks a bit about his recent trip to Mexico City. Also discussed is Gary's workshop in the Florida Keys not long ago (where unfortunately, Gene couldn't join him this time around.) Gary and Gene discuss their March 9th conference call, which opened with the topic of the Madness of the Ego, demonstrating how the ego's thought system is literally insane - and how the Holy Spirit provides an alternate thought system which is, blessedly, quite sane, joyful, and peace-filled. Gary elaborates on the actual "structural" nature of the ego, how it started, and how it operates. He also shares some of his personal history of dealing with negative thinking, and how finding A Course in Miracles was his path out of this kind of unhappiness. The discussion leads into a Question for Gary, which asks, "When does peace actually come? When does the 'happy dream' start?" The answer is that, even though the truth is the same for everybody, each individual's experience of peace being attained via forgiveness will be different; as the Course explains, the curriculum for learning is highly individualized. Right at the end of this episode, Gary's wife Cindy makes an impromptu musical "Hello" for our listeners, just before she and Gary ride into the Texas sunset, and off to another workshop appearance!
Episode 36: "Make this year different!" The theme of this first podcast of 2010 takes its cue from the ACIM statement: "Make this year different, by making it all the same." Gary starts off with a brief account of spending New Year's Eve in Honolulu (and their incredible fireworks displays), and then Gary and Gene spend a little time discussing the recent earthquake in Haiti... and how we can use a Course perspective to try to bring a sense of peace to a seemingly tragic set of circumstances. First 'question for Gary' asks: how do we know that after we "awaken", we won't continue to review the dream for infinity? Another question asks about the Course's views on addictions: are addictions also just part of the dream?
Episode 35: "The Christmas 2009 Podcast." This episode begins with some sounds of the season (listen, you'll see), and it is almost instantly interrupted by the arrival to Gary's house of both Cindy and her sister Jackie, who take the opportunity to wish all our podcast listeners a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Gary puts everybody into the Christmas Spirit by recounting one of his favorite quotes from A Course in Miracles which includes, "The sign of Christmas is a star, a light in darkness." There's a very brief chat about Gary's upcoming holiday travels, the next conference call, and the "No Steenkin' Ego" cruise to Mexico in April 2010. First 'question for Gary' asks about the audio recordings of DU as well as the other books. Gene and Gary answer with an announcement regarding this: a soon-to-be released audio-CD set which will present 2 hours of previously unrecorded material from DU and YIR! Next question asks about the animals (pets) in our lives; do they also make spiritual progress while they are alive, and what will happen to them after we eventually transition to the awareness of Heaven? Gene asks Gary to close out this episode (our last podcast for 2009) with some appropriate thoughts; Gary's answer involves the importance of Faith in maintaining our relationship with the Holy Spirit, and continuing to maintain progress in our practice of Forgiveness.
Episode 34: "Giving Thanks to the Holy Spirit". This Thanksgiving Podcast begins with Gary briefly telling Gene about his recent trip to Australia (and it's been 5 years since he was there last.) During the past 5 years, Gary's audience in Australia has grown substantially, and these podcasts are very popular Down Under, as well! The guys then chat a bit about the upcoming conference call on Nov. 30. Gary talks about going out (right after recording this show) to see the film, 2012, which apparently has a scene in which Gary's book "Your Immortal Reality" is seen sitting on a desk! (One would hope that alone would be enough to save the world...) Next up: Questions for Gary. First question asks Gary to summarize the relationship between our experiences of unity (or separation) with those around us, and our awareness of our relationship with God. Next question inquires about the nature of déja vu. The answer involves the Course's teaching that we are actually reviewing all that has already gone by. This episode closes out with some thoughts on Thanksgiving, and how important it is to maintain an attitude of gratitude not just at this time of year, but all throughout our lives.
Episode 33: "It's Halloween For The Ego!" At least that's the topic of Gary and Gene's first conference call, scheduled for just a few days after this podcast episode will be released. We have some discussion about that, some brief mention of Gary's current schedule (including his upcoming return trip Down Under), and there's also some discussion about Love Has Forgotten No One. Then, we move right into Questions for Gary! First up is a question regarding the forgiveness thought processes Gary describes in his books - and will there be a new one included in LHFNO. Next question asks about other authors who claim to be channeling God or Jesus; if their message is not the truth as the Course presents it, then who or what are they channeling? Next question asks about sayings from Pursah's Gospel of Thomas; and then, a question about Jesus' other possible lifetimes. Our last question asks about people who commit suicide; is the script written for them, as well? The answer involves multiple dimensions of time, and addresses the great ACIM quote, "My brother, choose again."
Episode 32: "It Never Rains in Southern California"... at least, according to Gary's weather report, discussing the drought conditions he has witnessed since moving to S.Cal two years ago. But Gary is really enjoying living in California, and he discusses a few of the very nice experiences he has had since moving there. Gary then tells Gene about meeting Ossie (she's one of the yahoo DU group moderators) while on a trip to Denver, and also meeting up with her fellow moderator Lyn while there. (Gary also tells of meeting the DU group's third mod, Marcy, in Chicago a few weeks back... making it a trifecta of mod meets!) Gary talks about his new trip to Europe, including some of the new destinations he'll be visiting there. Gary and Gene talk a bit about Gary's upcoming group cruise, this time to Mexico in April 2010. There's also some quick mention about our buddy Mikey (from the yahoo DU group) who Gary just saw in person recently, and who does a very funny "impersonation" of Gary in a YouTube video clip. Then... it's time for "Questions for Gary!" First up: since everything we experience is "scripted", does it actually do any good to pray for someone or something? Second question is from a listener in Austin, Texas (where Gary has visited several times), who asks about the nature of Heaven. What is it really like when we join with God for good? Both of these questions are answered and discussed at great length, with many references to Course teachings - as well as explaining the true nature of Gary's teachers, Arten and Pursah. Gary closes out this episode with his thoughts on why everything happens when it happens -- or more correctly, "seems" to happen.
Episode 31: Gary's "Hawaiian Wedding" Podcast! This episode is recorded while Gary is still in Hawaii, just a few days after his wedding to Cindy. Gary shares all the details about the wedding itself, including telling about the songs that he and Cindy sang to each other during the ceremony. (Gary actually played guitar while singing; the first time he's played "publicly" in many years!) And in a 'first' for our podcast series, we are then joined on the phone by Cindy herself, who discusses the wedding - including the fact that she and Gary discovered, just a few hours before the ceremony, that they had neglected to obtain a marriage license! Fortunately, all worked out well... Gene asks Gary about his feelings concerning the wedding from a Course in Miracles perspective. Gary's answer expands on the concept of the Holy Relationship, and in seeing the other person as who they truly are; the perfect creation of God. The discussion goes into some depth regarding the Course's teaching that as we see others, so we perceive ourselves - and how forgiveness is the key to bypassing our distorted perceptions in everything. After some lengthy Course-based discussion, Gary brings things to a close by thanking all the folks who have expressed so many messages of love and support for him and Cindy on their marriage.
Episode 30: Gary starts off by recapping his recent travels, beginning with his extensive appearance tour in Europe. He began in Amsterdam (and tells some VERY interesting stories about that), then moved on to Paris (we can all see it's a tough life for certain spiritual teachers..;-) Next stop, Barcelona, where Gary encountered tremendous enthusiasm for his personal appearances as well as for his books and the Course in general. There is also some discussion regarding the recent ULC (Universal Lightworkers Conference) event in Fort Lauderdale, where Gary was a keynote speaker, and where Gene and Helen performed as part of the ULC musical presentation! Gary then discusses his next upcoming trip, this one to Japan for the first time. And after that, Gary will be off to Hawaii -- not for a speaking engagement -- but for his wedding to Cindy! Gary talks a bit about their plans, and about the nature of their their multi-incarnational relationship; Gary and Gene then extend the discussion into the Course's principles regarding how we experience what "seems" to come our way within the illusion. They both also speak about Robert Scheinfeld's book, "Busting Loose From the Money Game", and how the principles expressed in this book are very much in line with the 'mechanics' of the metaphysics of the Course. Next up, Gary officially announces the next upcoming group cruise: this time, to the Mexican Riviera! (The cruise is scheduled for April 2010.) The discussion branches into the fact that Hay House will now be taking over the Spanish translations of Gary's books; interesting also, as Gene poses a question from a listener in Argentina, asking about finding DU in Spanish! (There ARE no coincidences...) Gary also mentions that there will soon be a Portuguese translation of DU for folks in Brazil. He also brings up his upcoming third book, and gives some explanations as to the delays in its release. This discussion then moves into a lengthy discourse of ACIM principles relating to forgiveness and releasing all the elements of expectation within the illusion, as well as ultimately choosing between what is Real and what is illusory. Near the close of the show, Gene reads to Gary a comment from a podcast listener (our friend Jamie Hosmer, a terrific professional musician), which tells of his applying a particular Course quote (also referenced in Your Immortal Reality) which Jamie uses as a centering affirmation prior to performing on stage.
Episode 29: Gary begins by discussing his recent participation in the Hay House "I Can Do It" conference in San Diego, and then talks about a new movie he has been interviewed for, called, "Luminous World Views". (Gary also recently did an interview for the Spiritual Cinema Circle with actress Mariel Hemingway!) Gene and Gary get into a discussion regarding the application of the Course's teachings in our everyday lives, and how forgiveness - once it becomes a habit - is actually easier than judging... and a lot more beneficial. Questions for Gary start off with one from a 15 year old listener and Course student, who asks: at what point did Jesus obtain enlightenment? Gary and Gene then also discuss the fact that many younger people are now becoming more interested (and knowledgeable) in terms of spiritual awareness. Next question asks about a quote from Pursah in DU, involving medicines and their role as effects in the perception of bodily healing and/or suffering. Gary's answer includes discussion of the concept that all bodily suffering and illness can be traced back to unconscious guilt resulting from the original belief in separation from God. Final question for this episode deals with other spiritual practices such as Silva Mind Control and Eckankar, and how those teachings compare to A Course in Miracles. Gary's answer also addresses his own previous involvement with EST training, and Gene's earlier experiences with Scientology. Gary and Gene wrap things up with some brief discussion about a new podcast spoof that's recently been posted (hello, Steven!), as well as some comments about the recent Happy Dream Cruise (hello, Martin!)... and then Gary closes out with a reminder of the importance of putting the Holy Spirit in charge of all events at the beginning of every day.
Episode 28: "Podcast at Sea - Part 2." This is the second half of the recording made aboard Gary's "Happy Dream Cruise" to the Caribbean. The action picks right up with further questions for Gary - coming directly from our live audience of fellow cruisers! First up, Rick asks about Course scribe Helen Schucman, and the nature of her "enlightenment status" at the end of her life. In his answer, Gary also discusses in-between life and past-life experiences - and why A Course in Miracles was given at just the appropriate time in human history. The next questioner asks Gary to expand on how ACIM relates to Tibetan Buddhism. Gary's answer references not only Buddhism, but the Kabbalah and traditional Christianity as well. Next question is from our friend Rogier (who is translating Gary's books into Dutch); he asks about past lives, and how we can use these experiences for the purpose of forgiveness practice, rather than as a focus for the ego. Gary and Gene wrap up the Podcast at Sea with a few personal comments; and Gary closes out with some thoughts, appropriately, on living "the happy dream!"
Episode 27: "The Podcast at Sea!" For the first time ever, Gene and Gary are in the same room at the same time for a podcast recording; and also for the first time, with a live audience! This all took place during Gary's "Happy Dream Cruise" to the Caribbean aboard the beautiful MS Westerdam. The sense of fun and excitement we all shared is plainly evident in this recording; and our fellow cruisers provided "Questions for Gary" right there as we recorded the show. First up, Jennifer asks for clarification about an earlier question regarding dealing with a person who is lying; and then follows up with asking about defending a person you love, when they are being spoken of negatively. Where does forgiveness fit into this process? Next question is from André (our "Dutch announcer"), who asks Gary about the "in between world", as Arten and Pursah have described it; if so much activity is happening in-between (the 'afterlife'), why is it so critical to do our forgiveness practice 'here'..? Gary's answer addresses all levels and forms of the forgiveness process, even dealing with "alien civilizations". Questions for Gary will continue in Part 2. (This episode contains the first half of the recording of our Podcast at Sea; the second half will be presented in our next episode.)
Episode 26: Gary's recording of this episode comes from the hotel in San Francisco, where he's appearing at the Course in Miracles Conference. Approximately 450 attendees are at the conference; and over 40 speakers -- all of whom Gary has worked with before, so it feels like "a reunion" for him! Attendees came from as far away as Macedonia, and mainland China, where DU is officially "banned" by the government there, yet underground versions are now available and being read by many Chinese people. Gary discusses with Gene how he goes about the process of speaking in public, and how it's only with the Holy Spirit's constant guidance (and a certain excerpt from A Course in Miracles) that he is able to feel so comfortable about doing it. Gene and Gary discuss –and very much in line with what Gary speaks of in public– how the undeniably central focus of ACIM is the practice of Forgiveness. Gary then talks a bit about California topics, and while discussing "The Governator", asks Gene to do his Ah-nold impersonation, where the Terminator becomes "The Illuminator!" The discussion returns to the Course, and how one's entire life should reflect one's study and practice of Course teachings, particularly in terms of applying forgiveness to whatever comes up in our daily lives - especially the things that push our buttons. Gary brings up a question that had been raised by a conference attendee earlier in the day; he discusses his answer, and quotes a section from ACIM to bring home the point. As Gary is short on time (his presence being expected back at the conference), he asks Gene (and the listeners) to hold off on "Questions for Gary" until the next episode... but closes out this show with some commentary on how to deal with suffering from a Course perspective, as promised from the previous podcast.
Episode 25: Gary is in Western Massachusetts as this episode is recorded, and he starts off by discussing all the ice and snow he's had to deal with while traveling; as the Course describes everything in the ego's universe, things can appear beautiful from a distance, but upon closer inspection, it's often a different story... Gary talks about how his previously living in Maine was really the perfect location for Arten and Pursah to begin their visits to him. He then mentions an upcoming workshop in a warmer location, as he'll be appearing at "The Crossings" in Austin, Texas this coming March - on his birthday, in fact. Gary and Gene then enter into a discussion area that's a bit more somber than usual, in that one of Gary's closest and most long-time friends just recently passed away. Gary talks about their many experiences together, and then relates the discussion to a Course perspective, specifically referencing the section from the Manual for Teachers entitled, "What Is Death", and also how the grief period becomes shorter when one learns that the body is not the reality of a loved one, and that Spirit - the true reality of us all - goes on forever, and is not ended by the body's passing. The conversation shifts into the area of pain and suffering - both emotional as well as physical - and how these, too, are lessened (and even ultimately eliminated) by the practice of advanced forgiveness, and allowing the Holy Spirit to be in charge of one's thoughts. Next, Gene presents several 'Questions for Gary' that relate to this episode's theme. First: how to deal with an unwillingness to progress with one's Course work, out of a concern that this might prevent a person from still feeling connected to a loved one who has passed. And then, do we continue to make progress in our forgiveness practice (and does Jesus continue to help us in this) when we are on "the other side", the "in between life" that we seem to experience after we have passed on from our physical form?
Episode 24: The Combined Holiday Show! This episode begins with a Christmas theme, and then moves into a New Year's theme, opening the doorway into 2009. Gary begins with his recent experience of Christmas in California, including a wonderful musical event; he then gives a brief reading from the Course, from the section, "Christmas as the End of Sacrifice." Gary and Gene then discuss how the concept of sacrifice is always related to the body, and as the Course teaches, true communication (which is the basis of our Reality) is always of the Mind. Gary then talks about his holiday trip to South Florida, where Gene and Gary got to connect at one of their favorite places, the Mai-Kai -- and then also to spend New Year's Eve together in Miami! Gary talks a bit about the concept of a New Year from a Course perspective, about "making this year different by making it all the same." Gary discusses the ego's script versus the Holy Spirit's script, and how the HS may shift us from one script to the other, depending upon our forgiveness practice. Gary's "real life" approach to forgiveness is then surprisingly demonstrated by a knock on the door, and a visit from his plumber -- which of course, is NOT deleted from this podcast! Next up: Questions for Gary; first: can Gary explain the seeming contradiction between the Course's teaching that the world is not real, and the Workbook lesson, "God is in everything I see." Gary's response addresses the fact that the workbook lessons, particularly the early ones, must be taken in context to be understood properly. Next, a brief question regarding Jesus' famous brief quote, "Be Passerby." Gary's explanation involves the corrected Gospel of Thomas as delivered by Pursah in "Your Immortal Reality." Gary closes out this episode with some optimistic commentary on the upcoming year, foreseeing many good things ahead in 2009 - and beyond!
Episode 23: It's the Thanksgiving Show! Actually recorded slightly after Thanksgiving, and being released in December, but who's counting... Anyway, Gary and Gene want to give thanks to all their podcast listeners, and they also chat a bit about the concept of gratitude and it's importance in attaining an abundant state of mind all through the year, and all through one's life. The guys discuss how movies, music, and other artistic endeavors are so often linked to those with a spiritual mindset - and how the enjoyment of these things can be yet another cause for gratitude. Next up: Questions for Gary! First question: if there were no humans, but only 'lesser' life forms (like plants and fish), would the forgiveness process still be at work - and if so, how? Next question - somewhat related to the previous one - asks about mentally handicapped people, and if (and again, if so, how) they are able to make spiritual progress while in human form? Then, a listener asks about some of the "other" apostles from the time of Jesus (other than Thomas and Thaddeus), and if any of them are now also in ascended states. Gene then clarifies that the "Steven" referred to in the Bible is not to be confused with the Steven who produces the spoofs of our podcasts... but also announces that there is now a third spoof available! (It can be located at the Links page at Forgiveness.tv) Gary closes out this episode with some thoughts on how giving thanks and feeling gratitude will bring us closer to the mindset of perfect wholeness and oneness, which is the state in which we have been created by God - and where we are always perfectly sustained.
Episode 22: Before launching into "Questions", Gary briefly discusses the cold weather he's currently experiencing in Boston, where he's not only doing a workshop, but celebrating the fifth anniversary of his very first workshop, presented in that same city 5 years ago. Gary also mentions the release of a new audio CD titled "Fearless Love" (just released this week), and also references a new movie as well as a new DVD project he's involved with. A brief discussion ensues about health/body related issues that both Gene and Gary have dealt with recently, and why numerologically, 2008 has been a strange year... but Gary predicts that 2009 will be "smokin'!" Then, as promised, it's on to "Questions for Gary." First up: can Gary clarify a seeming discrepancy between DU and the Course regarding God's answer to the separation. Next, a listener asks for clarification regarding 'healing', and whether Gary will ever do a book solely on that topic. The discussion involves the Course's teachings concerning healing, illness, and the body; Gary also mentions that his upcoming book, "Love Has Forgotten No One", contains a chapter devoted specifically to healing. Another questioner states that some lessons in the Workbook are difficult for him, often creating anxiety and fear; does Gary have any coaching suggestions to help deal with this? Gene and Gary elaborate on their mutual feeling that doing the workbook is one of the most important developments any Course student can make; and they both feel that the lessons actually become easier and more effortless as one progresses. The episode closes out with a final question that might have come... well, almost from an alternate universe! (When you hear it you'll see what we mean.)
Episode 21: Gary begins by discussing reincarnation (as he recently attended a conference on the subject), and explains the concept from a Course in Miracles perspective. He then talks about attending the most recent Hay House conference, and interacting with many of the well-known authors who were there. Next, Gary tells Gene about his unexpected experience of "the separation"; in this case, the separated shoulder he underwent due to an accident on an escalator at the Cincinnati airport! Fortunately, all turned out reasonably well, and Gary explains how applying forgiveness can actually speed the healing process. (He also references the section from the Course's "Manual for Teachers", entitled, "How Is Healing Accomplished.") Then: as promised in the previous episode, Gene presents several "Questions for Gary!" First up (non-coincidentally enough): since the Course teaches that there is no separation, aren't God, the Holy Spirit, and Jesus really all the same - and why then, do we differentiate? Next: if "the script is written" for our earthly lives, is there any point in doing "anything" while we seem to be here... or, can forgiveness actually change our experiences? A podcast listener from the Big Island in Hawaii asks, are the beloved pets in our lives only here for "one time", or do they come back for other lifetimes, as we appear to do? The final question for this show leads Gary into his closing commentary on, "the best way to meditate."
Episode 20: Gary and Gene begin this episode by discussing this past Summer's activities, including Gary's recording of his third audio-CD set for Sounds True (entitled, "Fearless Love", which should be due out this coming November.) Gary also discusses some new directives coming from Arten & Pursah. Gary then gives some new details about his relationship with his ex-wife, Karen, and how continually applying the principles of love and forgiveness as taught in A Course in Miracles makes all the difference in healing our relationships. He then elaborates on dealing with "seeming to be here" in the physical world, while in reality, we are not. Gary and Gene then discuss the "Love Has Forgotten No One" cruise to Alaska from this past July - and also then discuss Gary's upcoming group cruise to the Caribbean ("The Happy Dream Cruise") in March 2009, which will once again be aboard the same incredible cruise ship, Holland-America's "Westerdam". Gary then talks about some of the international destinations he'll be visiting next year, and also discusses the amazing "global reach" of the podcast series. The two guys close out this show with a bit of inspired silliness, as this becomes the longest podcast episode to date!
Episode 19: This episode continues with more "Questions for Gary!" First up, a question (from a listener in Kansas City), regarding the differences between the 'dream reality' which we think we are, and the true reality (or the "true I") which we really are. A confusing but not uncommon question... (“To whom is the Course being addressed?") The discussion continues into the area of "choice", and, exactly who is it that is doing the choosing - and, who is it that we really, ultimately are. Next up, and following on an area of question from the previous podcast episode, Gary speaks more about the current identity in this lifetime of Arten, which will be revealed in Gary's third book, "Love Has Forgotten No One". Another listener asks about ill health and other body-related issues interfering with her study of the Course, and how best to address this problem. Gary speaks about a healthy body or a sick body being no different, spiritually, as neither is actually "real" - and then gives an example of this concept, using Woody Allen as a role model. (Only Gary could do this... :-) Gary closes out this episode with some comments regarding the "overlap period" between the time of a person's enlightenment (using Jesus as one example), and the time of finally laying the body aside.
Episode 18: Gary and Gene begin by discussing Gary's upcoming appearance this June at the Universal Lightworkers Conference in South Florida, where Gene and Helen will also be performing music once again this year (as they have, many times previously) - and Gary kindly throws in a plug for Gene's original tune, "Ease in the Keys." Gary talks about his recent trip to Salt Lake City; and then segues into a chat about his much anticipated new third book, "Love Has Forgotten No One", due to be released this Fall. Gary then talks about his trip to Europe for 2008, and also discusses how the Holy Spirit seems to "take over" when he's addressing large groups at events. Gene starts off the "Questions for Gary" segment with a question posed by a number of folks at the yahoo.com "DU" group, regarding the possible significance of the change in the release date of Gary's upcoming new book (as well as Gary noting the new book's 'revealing' of the current-lifetime identity of Arten.) Next, a listener writes in with a question regarding dealing with a difficult situation at the time it occurs, and then "forgiving it later." Gary goes into some detail concerning "level confusion" and the Course's unmistakable teachings of the differences between Reality and the physical world. (And there will be more "Questions for Gary" in our next episode.)
Episode 17: Gary and Gene record this episode while Gary is on the road in Cleveland; more about that in a moment. Gary talks about his recent "warm weather tour" of hot-spots such as Acapulco, Hawaii, Savannah, and Arizona. (He says this has been the first Winter in his life that he's never seen any snow!) Back to Cleveland; Gary tells of his first ever visit to the world famous "Rock & Roll Hall of Fame". The discussion moves into the links between spirituality and art, in particular how creative artists such as the Moody Blues seem to naturally "tap into" higher realities in their lyrics. Gary speaks of how the experience of attending a great concert can really become an enjoyable part of the "happy dream". Gary then brings up some interesting new evidence of the intelligence and spiritual nature that our animal brothers share with us, and tells of his own remarkable experiences while swimming with the dolphins in Hawaii. Gary speaks about his dog Nupey (who was mentioned in DU), and Gene talks about Turbo (Gene and Helen's "baby girl", their 20-year old cat, who sadly is now in her last days here on Earth.) Gary discusses how animals make spiritual progress in their relationships with us, and how experiencing the love of the Holy Spirit is ultimately no different, whether one appears to be in a human body or in an animal one. The discussion shifts to the concepts of lack vs abundance, and how this applies to our bodies as well as to material possessions. Gene then poses to Gary a question many people ask, concerning how, when we ask the HS for guidance, we can be sure it is true guidance we are receiving. Gary mentions his upcoming ‘third book’, titled "Love Has Forgotten No One", and tells about its new release date . Gary and Gene have a good chuckle over a "Spoof" of their podcasts, put together by their friend Steven from the DU yahoo group; Gary then closes out this episode with a reminder about the main three ways for undoing the ego.
Episode 16: Gary starts off this episode by discussing his schedule, as well as the scheduling (and other factors) involving the completion and publishing of his third book with Hay House. He goes on to discuss interacting with a number of other well-known authors, including Esther and Jerry Hicks, Doreen Virtue (the voice of Pursah in the DU audio set), and Wayne Dyer (who coincidentally has a home in the same town as Gene.) Also discussed: Michael Mirdad (whom Gene has been friends with for many years, and Gary has appeared with); as well as Gregg Braden, thought very highly of by both Gary and Gene. • Then, it's time for, "Questions for Gary!" First up: the "Other Side"... what is it, and how does this concept fit into Gary's teachings? Gary goes into some detail on this, discussing the Course principles of levels, the "serial dreams" involving belief in bodies (as well as seeming to be 'out of body'), and how forgiveness is the solution to finally ending the dream entirely. Another question involves ACIM's references to bodies, love, idolatry, and "Holy Relationships" - and the Course's teaching that, "As you see him, so will you see yourself". • Gary surprises Gene with a program-closing comment that proves he IS a master of irreverent metaphysics!
Episode 15: Gary and Gene start off by discussing just what has been taking them so long to get a new podcast episode up! Then, Gary talks about just having returned from Hawaii, one of his favorite locations on Earth. Upon his return to California, Gary spoke at the Agape center alongside noted author and spiritual leader Michael Beckwith; Gary uses this as a springboard to discuss the metaphysics of the Course as compared to the now popular "law of attraction". Speaking of Southern California, Gary has just made the cover of LA's "The Learning Annex!" And Gary also talks about his trip to New York a short while back, where he appeared on the TV show, "New Realities"; he discusses as well, other TV opportunities he's investigating in L.A. Gary then discusses in some depth - for the first time in a podcast - his recent divorce, and how that experience is reflected both in the form of love as the Course defines it (and which is focused on in Gary's upcoming third book), as well as being a perfect example of putting advanced forgiveness into play under what the world would normally consider as very difficult circumstances.
Episode 14: Gary and Gene resume their conversation from the previous podcast episode, where Gary has brought up the concept that the world is not being done "to us", but rather is being done "by us". Gene follows up with the example that the Course holds God in a much higher esteem than most religions traditionally have, in that God is not at all responsible for any of the terrible things that happen in this world; Gary responds with comments concerning the concept of duality, and how that must reflect a "separation" from the whole, from the perfect Oneness of God. Gene presents to Gary two questions from listeners, which are on the same topic, and are in fact related to the earlier discussions: is "the script" actually "written" and unchangeable, or are we able to influence and change our outcomes? The second question goes a step further in asking Gary how this applies to an experience such as he had at the Indian mound in Cahokia, as described in "Your Immortal Reality". Gary's closing commentary reflects on the idea that the power of choice over what we think, is the source of real peace and power, and is ultimately unaffected by anything that may appear to happen in the material world.
Episode 13: Gene discovers that Gary has returned from Europe, and is living in California! Well, he actually already knew that, but this is the first podcast the two guys have done since all of that happened. OK, "seemed" to happen... Gary describes a kind of impromptu international ACIM gathering that took place in Northern Scotland, and also tells some interesting stories about an official Course in Miracles gathering in California. Also currently happening in California, the re-appearances of Arten and Pursah, who now sit on a "new" couch - and Gary explains why. He also explains why he decided to move to California as opposed to Hawaii, his well-known "first love". Gary has a bold idea concerning how to determine the authenticity of self-proclaimed "Masters" here in the material world; and he and Gene discuss the differences between religious doctrines and the "real spirituality" approach to God as presented in ACIM.
Episode 12: Gene presents to Gary another episode of simply, "Questions for Gary"! A listener writes in with a question concerning how to continue the Holy Spirit's way of forgiving, even though circumstances in her life are not improving, and she in fact has issues about the safety of where she lives and works. Gene asks Gary to elaborate on this topic, particularly as it might concern people in professions that could potentially involve violence, such as police officers or military personnel. Another listener asks about the message of ACIM in relation to marriage and having children, considering the Course's teaching regarding "specialness" in relationships. Also: is it possible to "undo the script"; or is the script completely written, with no way to alter the outcome? And how does this relate to the many new-age teachings about the "law of attraction"? Another listener asks Gary to elaborate on the actual process of forgiveness as described in "Your Immortal Reality". Further: is Spirit, "energy", or is that merely another part of the illusion of separation? Finally, Gary is asked about any newer memories of his lifetime as Thomas during the time of J, "way back when".
Episode 11: This episode was recorded just prior to Gary leaving for his long-awaited "European Vacation"! Well, alright, not really a vacation; mostly workshops and appearances, but still... First, though, Gene and Gary discuss Gary's recent visit to Lake Charles, Louisiana, which included an unexpected layover in New Orleans. Gary describes the current post-hurricane state of the region, and how inspiring are the folks who live there under often still-difficult conditions; and how this translates into a major forgiveness opportunity for us all. • Gene discusses with Gary some of his own funnier moments while facilitating Course gatherings, and Gary talks about his upcoming third book with Arten and Pursah, and how humor was central to J's message even, "way back when". • Next up, we have some "Questions for Gary!" Gary's asked to go into detail about the form of "joining meditation" that's described in his first book, "The Disappearance of the Universe." Also: a question from a listener in the Netherlands regarding the fact that everything has "already happened", and how this may or may not effect our forgiveness experiences in respect to other lifetimes. Gary closes out this episode with an elaboration on Arten and Pursah's teachings in "Your Immortal Reality", about recognizing the eternal importance of distinguishing the difference between cause and effect.
Episode 10: "Questions for Gary!" Expanding on a popular feature of the podcast series, this is the first episode to be comprised exclusively of, "Questions for Gary!" Gene reads to Gary questions submitted by listeners, including: how does one take care of the body's health and needs, without reinforcing the ego's belief that the body is actually real? Can the idea of angels be of assistance in this? Also: can the exquisite beauty of someone like Pursah become a "trap", by causing Gary (or anyone else) to focus on the physical, rather than true Spirit? Can our experience of ascended masters, via Gary's writings, actually give us the same quality and value of experience that he gained from meeting them "in person"..? And: can the practice of forgiveness as described in ACIM as well as in Gary's two books be accomplished properly, even if one has not yet completed the Text, or started the lessons in the Workbook of A Course in Miracles? And can forgiveness be applied even to an "event", such as an earthquake or other natural disaster..?
Episode 9: "Gary's Hawaii Visit!" Gary and Gene start off this show discussing Gary's current visit to the 50th State, and Gary talks about his schedule while on Kauai and Oahu, as well as many of the spiritual connections he has made while visiting the islands. (And speaking of spiritual connections, Gary tells Gene about his recent visitation from Arten and Pursah!) The two guys also discuss their mutual enjoyment of, and perhaps future plans for a visit to, Key West. Questions from listeners include: asking Gary to update the audience about his film appearance as a "Living Luminary"; Concerning other people in our lives: are they "real", or just imaginary? Gary is asked why, for some, "Angels", as manifestations of the Holy Spirit, may or may not "appear" as actual beings; and if this is connected with one's level of accomplishing one's own forgiveness practice. Gary elaborates on how some illusions are used by the HS to lead us out of illusion entirely, and lead us to the Truth. Gary is also asked to clarify the differences between judging, discernment, condemnation, and simply "making choices" while we appear to be here in the illusion of this world.
Episode 8: Gary gives Gene his "Top Ten List" for 2007; also talks about his recent trip to California, his upcoming visit to Hawaii, and his first trip this Spring to the Netherlands. Questions from listeners include: how to deal with a "slow burn" when encountering difficulties with relatives; how to handle something like the desire to lose weight, while keeping in mind that the body is only an illusion. Also: how did Gary initially deal with his teachings from Arten and Pursah that showed him that the world as he thought he knew it was false? How does one then handle the "good things" in this world, that we all might be reluctant to feel we now have to give up? Gene wraps things up by asking Gary to re-visit his "New Year's Resolution Challenge" for 2007, and discusses how many podcast listeners have positively responded to this radically new concept of interacting with the world.
Episode 7: "The New Year Podcast!" Gary surprises Gene with a New Year's greeting that has to be heard to be believed; Gary discloses the "real secret" in getting what you really want out of true, no-nonsense spirituality. Gary answers listeners' questions ranging from whether we keep our individual personalities after returning to the oneness of God, to how (and if) to discuss the teachings of the Course with children (and also suggests a great book for kids!) Finally, Gary lays to rest some common misperceptions concerning the differences between the "urtext" and the final edited version of the Course that we use today; and in closing, invites Gene and everyone to share in his personal Course-based New Year's resolution for 2007.
