Hello! This is Episode 349, and in it, I’m going to discuss a topic that is, I believe, often the promoted ‘thing’ out there through glossy mags and social media: ‘How to create a luxurious home’. And because it seems to be promoted so heavily, by inference, it seems that it’s supposed to be one of the goals when creating your ideal home. However, I have found that the definition of ‘luxury’ can have MANY connotations. Not always positive either. And it can be so relative and subjective in how it’s interpreted, that this supposed pursuit of a luxurious home as the dream being sold to us can be really fraught. And so, I wanted to dive into this more. Over the Christmas / New Year break of 2024 / 2025, we spent a month there. It was my first time there, and so many things jumped out at me, but the first was this: In a city such as Tokyo that is amongst the most densely populated in the world, luxury can’t come from space, or stuff. So how is it being created instead, when this constraint exists. That led to A LOT of thinking, exploration and observation about this concept of luxury. How we define it, how we pursue it, and how we incorporate it into our ideal homes, wherever we’re located. So, let’s jump into talking about luxury. To me, the me, Christmas/New Year 2020 was one of the worst seasons of my life, being peak depressed but also being saved by my life as a baby BTS ARMY!!! So much life-changing things happened this year as well in my personal life - at the time it was so stressful and anxiety inducing, but now in hindsight, it was just the beginning of my slow growth towards correcting some mistakes I made in the past :) (That's so vague and cryptic lol but sorry it's hard to share too much just yet!!! Maybe next time hahahehe). Despite all that shit though, I/WE GOT THROUGH and I am just so so grateful. I hope that if you're going through a shitty time this year too, that you may have faith that it can get better! Soooo with that... Rising ownership costs, including high mortgage rates and home prices, pushed RBC's national aggregate housing affordability measure up 2.8% in Q3, to 62.5%. The increase, which is outlined in a new report from Robert Hogue, Assistant Chief Economist at RBC, follows two consecutive quarters of decline, and has propelled the measure above the previous all-time high of 61.2% that was reached in Q3 2022. RBC's affordability tool measures ownership costs as a percentage of median household income; when the ratio falls, affordability improves. The long-term average for the aggregate measure is 41.3%. I was looking after my nephew and niece, when I grabbed my mother-in laws phone to bring up YouTube (which we normally do). On the phone I read a message from her boss about the things he wants to do to her sexually and other things I want to erase from my brain. My sister in law was with me at the time and also read the same message. She is still married… so we both know, we haven't confronted her about anything. I haven't told my boyfriend and I don't feel like it's my place to. What should I do? Ignore that I ever read the message?? Every time I look at her I think how could you. -My partner & I had been dating for 7 months. We have plans to move in together and travel Europe in Feb Mar 2024. Two weeks ago he dropped on me that he'd be travelling Sri Lanka with his sister from Boxing Day until 14th of Jan. I cried when he told me he was going and I blew up when he booked the following day. This leaves me, a pharmacist working on call at a metro hospital alone over the Christmas - New Year period. He thinks I'm being unreasonable and can't see that I'm left feeling abandoned. I'm a single child. Do I just not get it? Or should my partner be spending time with me over this time? Since I can't visit my friends or family who live interstate due to work.  I have a friend who's been having an affair for a few years now. The guy is a lot older than her and one of the reasons they aren't together is she wants kids. She is now engaged to her partner that she's been cheating on for years and I'm invited to the wedding next year. I don't know how to respond or how to have the conversation to see if this marriage is something she actually wants? She has said she is in love with this other man but still loves her fiancé. Do I say something to her or do I just turn up at the wedding and have a good time? I feel mixed.
