“This felt like a season of a television show” - SteveOn the season sixteen finale of WHM, we're bringing the Summer Blockbuster Extravaganza to a close with a talk about the kinda-good/kinda-not Homecoming follow-up, Spider-Man: Far From Home! How boring are these Elemental villains? Did they really need to do the European Vacation trope? Should they have instead taken the story to Hollywood to have Spider-Man tangle with the actual Quentin Beck special F/X whiz guy from the comics? How great is Gyllenhaal here? Did the MCU ever really grapple with The Blip aftermath? And did we really need all the S.H.I.E.L.D. shenanigans in this one? PLUS: An extended rant on the trials and tribulations of using the bathroom on a plane! Spider-Man: Far From Home stars Tom Holland, Samuel L. Jackson, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Zendaya, Jacob Battalion, Tony Revolori, Angourie Rice, Remy Hill, Martin Starr, J.B. Smoove, Cobie Smulders, J.K. Simmons, and Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio; directed by Jon Watts.Come hang out in Vegas with us this summer as we do a three-night stand at ST:LV to celebrate 60 years of Star Trek and 10 years of The Nexus! As if we'd pass up the chance to talk with Clueless writer and director Amy Heckerling! We're delighted to share this conversation about the making of her totally awesome adaptation of Emma. In this episode, Amy takes us behind the scenes to discuss how she reimagined Austen's novel for contemporary Beverly Hills—from the film's characters and plot to its casting, costumes, distinctive visual style, memorable soundtrack, and now-iconic Clueless lexicon. She also reflects on her experience as a female filmmaker and the creative choices that helped make Clueless a modern classic.(This conversation was recorded during JASNA's members-only Clueless watch party, held in celebration of the film's 30th anniversary in July 2025.)Amy Heckerling is an acclaimed writer, director, and producer whose work spans film, television, and theater. In addition to writing and directing the Clueless, she also wrote and directed Look Who's Talking, Look Who's Talking Too, Loser, I Could Never Be Your Woman, and Vamps. Her directing credits include Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Johnny Dangerously, and National Lampoon's European Vacation, and she produced A Night at the Roxbury. Amy's television work has included executive producing, writing, and directing episodes for the series Clueless and Fast Times, and directing episodes of The Office, Gossip Girl, The Carrie Diaries, Red Oaks, Weird City, and Royalties. Amy also wrote the script for Clueless, The Musical, which opened at London's Trafalgar Theatre in the West End in March 2025.For an edited transcript and show notes, visit https://jasna.org/austen/podcast/ep37*********Visit our website: www.jasna.orgFollow us on Instagram and FacebookSubscribe to the podcast on our YouTube channelEmail: podcast@jasna.org

After spending the last couple of weeks traveling throughout Europe, Jean is back in the studio this morning & she recapped her entire vacation. The travel, the food, the sights, the hotels! All of it. Of course, we talked about some Thanksgiving stuff with the holiday just days from now. Discussed our favorite pies and our 2nd favorite potato dish after mashed. Let you know what's on TV today/tonight and informed you of the new "Chief of Cheer" position that'll pay you to watch holiday movies! In the news this morning, one of the Slender Man girls was captured after cutting off her monitoring device & going on the run, a 24 year-old hunter is found dead near his tree stand in Fond du Lac County, and a new bill in WI that imposes a fine on individuals with "fake" service animals. In sports, the Packers took care of the Vikings yesterday, a look at the rest of the Week 12 action, a recap of the Bucks ugly weekend, and the Badger men's basketball team struggled against BYU on Friday afternoon while the football team played their best game of the season against #21 Illinois on Saturday. Elsewhere in sports, Chip Kelly gets fired, Baker Mayfield gets injured, a recap of the F1 race in Vegas this weekend, Chris Paul announces his intention to retire at the end of the season, and a UAB football player allegedly stabbed two teammates just hours before their game on Saturday. Speaking of NBA players, D'Angelo Russell of the Dallas Mavericks just held his third annual event in his hometown of Louisville where his charity foundation handed out over 4,000 free turkeys to families in need this Thanksgiving. Also had a very cool story about a young boy who asked a BUNCH of questions while riding the city bus and eventually became a colleague to the very nice bus driver who answered all his questions. And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a guy in Iowa who was bored so he started flashing cars on a highway, a bald eagle that dropped a dead cat through the windshield of a woman's car, a wild video of a cop fighting a DUI suspect who tried to grab her gun, & a pizzeria in NYC that's making a Thanksgiving pizza.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

THE DEVIL WITHIN Mini-Series: The Beasts of France Description: France is a country of cathedrals, castles… and cryptids. In this chilling six-part series from The Devil Within, we journey into the haunted forests, fog-laced vineyards, war-ravaged trenches, and bone-lined tunnels of France to uncover a dark and forgotten legacy: the loup-garou. Part folklore, part true crime, The Beasts of France explores six terrifying cases—some legendary, others all too real—where the line between man and monster vanished. From the infamous Beast of Gévaudan that terrorized the countryside in the 1700s… to the Black Beast that stalked soldiers during WWI… to a secret cult beneath Paris in the 1970s that believed the werewolf wasn't a myth—but a destiny. PART ONE: 1 The Beast of Gévaudan – A brutal string of killings in 18th-century France blamed on a creature that couldn't be caught… or killed. 2 The Werewolves of the Jura – A cannibalistic hermit confesses to transforming into a wolf—and sets off a legal and spiritual panic. 3 The Beast of the Vosges – In 1994, livestock mutilations and phantom sightings resurrect France's most ancient fears. PART TWO: 4 The Werewolf of Bordeaux – A calm, lucid man is arrested for murder—and insists he was simply answering the call of the wolf. 5 The Black Beast of Normandy – World War I soldiers report a hulking predator in the fog of battle… and it may not have left. 6 The Devil's Breath – A Parisian cult, a forgotten detective, and a series of disappearances that point to something living beneath the City of Light. Submit your own sightings, stories, or artifacts tied to werewolf lore:
It's a week of reports from European vacations and local cigar events. Everyone on the panel who was not out of commission has an event story to share. The Hidden Herf is well received. Local Spotlight – Plaistow Cigar Co; Plaistow, NH Conspiracy Corner – What's a Stone Hedge?

The energy cuts have attracted less attention than the health care provisions in part because they were made much more severe at the last minute. Jane breaks down how the Inflation Reduction Act changed America's approach to clean energy subsidies — making them more durable, more flexible, and more inclusive of the full range of technologies including nuclear, geothermal, and carbon capture — and how it connects to larger industrial policy questions related to supply chains and battery production. Repealing these measures will leave America worse off than it was pre-Biden in terms of clean energy production, which is going to lead to higher levels of air pollution and higher energy bills as Americans face a generational increase in electricity demand from AI and data centers. After the break, Matt and Jane analyze the broader philosophy of investment-led climate policy — what's the right lesson to learn from the failure of Obama-era carbon pricing and what can we do about the flood of extremely dirty Chinese steel on world markets? All that, plus the full Politix archive are available to paid subscribers—just upgrade your subscription and pipe full episodes directly to your favorite podcast app via your own private feed.Further reading:* How Republicans turned against energy programs in their Big Beautiful Bill.* The impact of repealing energy credits on electricity prices.* Dylan Matthews on the geopolitics and environmental economics of steel.
This week on the Exciting & New Podcast, Jason, Andy and Dana welcome Mike back on the show to discuss the 1985 comedy, National Lampoon's European Vacation. That's right, we are back on vacation with Griswold's (or is it Griswald? Maybe it's Greaseball). Clark and Ellen drag their kids to the old country where hilarity happens. And then it doesn't. There is some gold in this one, but it is a weaker entry in the Vacation franchise, which might be explained by the absence of Cousin Eddie. There is a Python popping up from time to time, but even he can't get a laugh out of this horse, no matter how hard he beats it. There are some very unfortunate fashion choices along the way, and Johnny is going to sweep the leg and send Audrey home in a body bag. Enjoy the podcast.
Bethany and Kara catch up after Bethany's trip to London with five kids and no husband.
Jason, Andy and Dana welcome Mike back on the podcast, as he refused to leave the studio, so they all discuss what they were up to this last week. National Lampoon's European Vacation is coming this Wednesday.
