Give Us a Good One

In the 20th freakin' episode the guys welcome comedian Ben Roy to Mike's temporary Eagle Rock bungalow. Ben is the star of the TruTV show "Those Who Can't" and an alarmingly funny comedian. The three dudes touch on soaking and baking, what it takes to let go of bad stuff in life, and there's a lot of God talk. Don't listen to this in public, you're going to ugly laugh.

Part two of this dense double episode with Thes One of PUTS has got it all: Mike getting into a fight with Will.I.Am 16 years ago, a Tom Cruise's dick sighting, Pharrell comparing Thes to a dog, and the time People Under the Stairs got a dude fired. This one is special. The guys tie up a lot of hilarious loose ends.

Thes One of legendary underground hip-hop group People Under the Stairs welcomes Mike and Orville into his home studio for a monster two part episode. Thes tells the disastrous story of when the P first played Glastonbury, what it's like to share a row with Ice T and the full backstory of how Thes ended up on the Price is Right. In addition we get some backstory on how venues are screwing musicians over in new and exciting ways. Get comfortable. 

Season two comes out swinging with guest John Dwyer of legendary band Oh Sees. Mike and Orville ventured to a hillside somewhere in Los Angeles to sit among roughhousing cats and an impressive garden while hearing tales of all sorts of shit courtesy of the Oh Sees founder. The guys hit all the topics: how to feed baby mice, central Europe bribery tactics and what exactly happened the night John smashed a guitar over a promoter's head (all of which was caught on camera). This rare and lengthy sit down with John is not to be missed. 

All the way from Minneapolis, the guys welcome rapper Astronautalis to Austin, Texas. Astronautalis tells Mike and Orville about his first tour of Romania and the hijinks that come along with touring in an region that American musicians rarely venture. There's corrupt police, a truck accident, a lost passport and more. It's basically National Lampoon's European Vacation. Astronautalis also tells the origin story of his "Turn left, now go fast" tattoo.

After a two month pie break, the guys welcome Jake Garcia of legendary Austin psych band The Black Angels. Jake has been making music for decades in addition to obtaining a stellar record collection. He tells Mike and Orville about the records that moved him, eating horse in Italy, and a slew of other great stories that come with a lifetime of playing rock and roll.

Prior to his life as an award winning chef and owner of the Austin restaurant L'Oca d'Oro, Fiore Tedesco was a crack drummer for Kid Congo Powers (of The Gun Club, The Cramps, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds), in addition to Fiore's band Preacher & the Knife. He shares a story of playing a life changing show in Serbia and how breakfast in a French village lead to his eventual departure from music. We jump right in, this story is a long one.

After a lot of scheduling snafus the guys managed to get Sean Wood of legendary band The Spits to sit down with them and talk turkey. Being in a band for 20 years will give you a lot to talk about. Sean recounts a few bizarre vignettes and a wild festival in Canada where he ate enough acid to send the entire Detroit Tigers roster into a vision quest.

Chainsaw artist and all around badass, Griffon Ramsey invites the guys into her home for a long talk about growing up in an Oregon ghost town, the artistry and creativity of making your own dentures, and what to do when a friend asks you to bust them out of the Naval Academy. Rip that pull cord, because this episode rules. Special cameos are made by Mike's cat, Grits, and Griffon's dog, Arrow.

Mike and Orville sit down with The Coathangers (on tour supporting their new live album out on Suicide Squeeze Records) before their show at Austin's Barracuda club for an hour of bizarre stories. Squats in Switzerland and Tasmania, violent electric shocks and a fight that seemed to never end. Everyone is still sore from laughing. And also from a lifetime of not taking proper care of themselves. 

Mike and Orville sit down with Thievery Corporation singer LouLou Ghelichkhani for a journey through her varied life and career. We learn about LouLou's escape from Iran and subsequent Parisian upbringing, partying with a supposed Washington DC club owner, and what the mother's of a legendary hip-hop group want to eat when in a remote French town. Mike gets a little weird with his Edan obsession and LouLou teaches the guys how to curse like a Parisian.

Our guys spend an evening with Detroit native and Third Man Records artist Craig Brown (Craig Brown Band, Liquor Store, Terrible Twos). What happens when your manager at a fancy Italian restaurant loves Judas Priest and drugs? You go to a lot of concerts and do a lot of drugs. Plus they visit the destructive and shitty nature of youth and how friends become friends. This one is a fun one, you won't need to concentrate.

The guys welcome Ray Charles, but ya know, not *that* Ray Charles, to the podcast for a story of Myspace love with the reclusive actor, Crispin Glover, plus some lesser known Back To The Future gossip. The three also touch on face tattoos and the finer points of fast food. The episode opens with Mike shotgunning his first beer. 

Italian tour manager, booking agent and label head Franz Barcella came by for a hang sesh during a rare trip to America. He regaled our heroes with a bonkers tale of a band taking their tour manager hostage, plus he satisfied Mike's obsession with Italian pop icon Adriano Celentano. His accent will have you begging for more. Ciao bella! 

The two founders of nudie magazine Peach Fuzz Magazine drop in to discuss the finer points of sex in a dorm room, racist tow truck drivers, and how a miserable trip through a desert gave them some of the best photos their magazine has seen. Kelly Dugan and Laura McNairy also give some solid sex advice: wash your hands after a crawfish boil.

An old college buddy of Orville's, Ryan Darbonne, dives into the depths of independent filmmaking, avoiding the hospital in favor of Stranger Things and whether or not South By Southwest matters to anyone anymore. Mike and Orville learned a lot about themselves and the parallels of film and music at the shoestring budget level--and when the last time either of them had a shitty accident.

Our heroes sit down with Riverboat Gamblers and Drakulas frontman Mike Wiebe to discuss how he achieved pure bliss as a 5th grader, a provocative new app and what to do when you meet Owen Wilson at a party. Grab your parachute, you can't un-hear this one.

The guys take a quiet journey with Gerard Cosloy, co-founder of Matador Records and founder of 12XU records, down a rabbit hole of bad, cancelled TV sitcoms, Don Rickles lesser known works, and a case of bargain beer that was politely turned down by legendary band, The Fall. This one's a slow burn.

In this episode, guitarist Zach Blair (Rise Against, Gwar, Only Crime, Hagfish, Drakulas) tells Mike and Orville about how he came to join the traveling metal circus that is GWAR, one of the most elaborate and impressive DIY bands of all time. GWAR is mayhem, and Zach tells a few stories about how the commitment of the characters almost drove him off the edge. The episode opens with the guys eating copious amounts of toffee. 

In the first episode of Give Us a Good One, Mike and Orville talk to musician Sabrina Ellis (A Giant Dog, Sweet Spirit) about a family reunion bathroom mishap in Mexico, and the practice of stealing tiny forks. The episode opens with a never before heard TV show theme Sabrina wrote for a never-made teen drama about Jonbenet Ramsey.
