Die Songs zum Film habe das Komponistenduo Jerry Leiber und Mark Stoller an einem einzigen Tag in nur fünf Stunden entworfen, erzählt der Mannheimer Popexperte Prof. Udo Dahmen, der das besondere Zusammenspiel von Schlagzeug, Gitarre und Gesang hervorhebt. Trotz negativer Kritiken wurde der Film „Jailhouse Rock“ ein riesiger Erfolg, der die Karriere von Elvis Presley beflügelt hat. Der Film zeigt ihn nicht nur als hervorragenden Schauspieler, sondern auch als außergewöhnlichen Tänzer. Ein solches Video, das einen Song illustriert, habe es zuvor noch nicht gegeben, meint Udo Dahmen, das sei erst viel später mit MTV in den 80er Jahren gekommen.
