In which the Curmudgeons know it's going to be a long, long time before the heavens produce a young man as preternaturally gifted as a songwriter and performer as Elton John proved to be back in the early 1970s. John's output during the early part of that fabled decade was routinely incredible, possessed with both a swagger and a tenderness that shone through in gorgeous melodies and the often profound lyrics of collaborator Bernie Taupin. We revisit a period when virtually no one else in all of rock n' roll could approach the mastery of Elton John. When you take on new challenges, whether it's hosting a free event or launching a new product, you learn valuable lessons along the way. In this podcast, we'll delve into six key takeaways from my personal experience launching products/events. These takeaways are not only applicable to those in the music education industry but also to anyone looking to grow their business effectively. The Power of EnergyThe first takeaway is all about energy – specifically, the energy I put into events. The excitement and energy levels tend to fluctuate during the different phases of launching a new project. Initially, the creative process fills me with enthusiasm, but as the time comes to promote or sell it, I find myself feeling negative or disheartened. I encourage you to examine your own energy when promoting new ideas or products. I want to emphasize the importance of maintaining a positive mindset throughout the entire process.Don't Give Up EasilyThe second takeaway is a reminder not to give up after just one attempt. With Piano Practice Lab I've hosted three times. After the first event, only one person joined. I could have easily given up. However, we need to be persistent. Real growth and success often require multiple attempts, learning from each one and refining your approach. Instead of quitting, ask yourself what can be improved and try again.Communicate ValueThe third takeaway revolves around effectively communicating the value of your offerings to your customers. I advise against simply listing features or what you believe is essential. Instead, put yourself in your customers' shoes and explain how your product or service benefits them. Help them see why it's valuable and how it can address their needs or problems. By focusing on the customer's perspective, you'll be more convincing and engaging.Be ConvictedBelief in what you're promoting is crucial. My fourth takeaway emphasizes the importance of conviction. If you don't genuinely believe in your product or service, it will be challenging to convey its value to others. Your energy and enthusiasm should reflect your strong belief in what you're offering. Conviction can be a powerful tool in sales and marketing.Implement Repeatable SystemsMy fifth takeaway introduces the concept of repeatable systems. I want to highlight the benefits of creating organized and repeatable processes for promoting and running events or products. By doing so, you save time and effort in the long run, as you won't have to reinvent the wheel each time. Having a structured system in place streamlines your business operations and ensures consistency.Capture DataThe final takeaway emphasizes the value of data. I encourage businesses to capture data, such as customer behavior, engagement rates, and feedback. By analyzing this information, you gain valuable insights that can inform your decision-making and strategy. It helps you make informed choices based on facts rather than emotions, ultimately leading to better outcomes.Hosting a free event like Piano Practice Lab has provided me with valuable business insights. These six takeaways – focusing on energy, perseverance, effective communication, conviction, repeatable systems, and data capture – can benefit any business owner looking to grow and

This week we welcome David Brooks and The Bretts! David began playing piano at the age of six. He honed his craft until he was in his teens, when he hit the road playing gospel music professionally with groups such as the Hinsons upon graduating high school. After a number of years touring, he moved to Branson in 2003. When he arrived in Branson, David began performing in many of the most well- known shows in town. As a matter of fact, David has performed in most of the theaters in Branson with one show or another for almost two decades. While David has been with many Branson shows, his most identifiable role to this day was his portrayal of Jerry Lee Lewis in Million Dollar Quartet. He has also been named Piano Player of the Year for Branson on multiple occasions. In addition to the accolades already mentioned, David spent several years doing his own shows on many top Cruise Lines such as Celebrity, Princess and others, as well. Currently, David has embarked on a new show in town and he is excited to have everyone come see it. His new show is playing at the Copeland Theater in Branson Meadows, called "The Hits". He along with some of his talented friends bring some of the most well-known HITS from the 50s to the present. Along with his new show, David continues to perform with Cassandre, The Voice of an Angel for Christmas and will also be a featured performer at the Moon River Theatre for the Christmas season, as well. You can find David and his talented cast at the Copeland Theater. For tickets and information, call 417- 332-5338; or visit CopelandTheater.com. After over 23 years of award-winning entertainment in Branson, MO and throughout the world, the Brett family has announced that November 1 to December 10, 2022 will be their final full Christmas season and the last chance to experience this production of A Brett Family Christmas. For more than two decades The Bretts have had one of the most popular shows in Branson. In recent years, they decided to focus only on the Christmas season, and A Brett Family Christmas has become one of Branson's premier Christmas productions. Now, as the family expands further into new and exciting personal and professional pursuits that are requiring more of their time and energy, they've decided they can no longer commit to a full Christmas season schedule. “We have a family of big vision and ambition, and I have always told them that we would never hold them back when it came time to pursue their own dreams,” says family patriarch Tom Brett. “That being said, this has not been an easy decision for us. Even though we won't be doing full Christmas seasons in Branson anymore, the family is excited about continuing to expand our music, our creativity and the family legacy in new ways.” “We've always said that Branson is our headquarters, but the world is our stage and we feel like it's time to deliver even more on that,” says Brydon Brett. “Soon we'll be introducing a new family brand and website where you can keep up on all of the exciting things each of us is doing to continue growing the Brett family footprint in Branson and beyond. So be on the lookout for that this Fall.” But for now the focus is on Christmas. This year's presentation of A Brett Family Christmas at Dick Clark's American Bandstand Theater will be a last chance for friends and fans to reminisce with The Bretts and experience the trademark warmth, quality and class they have become known for over their distinguished career in Branson. “We really love our fans and the friends we have made over the years,” says Tom. “So please, please come and see us, hug us if you dare, and celebrate the wonderful times we have shared together through our show.” Don't miss this chance to experience A Brett Family Christmas with one of Branson's most treasured and esteemed families. Hello everyone. We're back. Well... to be more precise, I am back. This is the new version of PDSMiOS. One guest with me (Joel) talking about a sci-fi movie we decided on together. An Important WARNING for those with young ones or those sensitive to cursing, I AM NO LONGER BLEEPING OUT THE CURSE WORDS. This decision is based on feedback from a few listeners. I imagine most people won't notice, but for those of you who do, reach out to me on Twitter or at PleaseDontPodcast@gmail.com. We can probably figure something out. Anyway, enough house keeping. My guest on this episode is someone I can now call an old friends of mine. He has been my recording partner on Shoot the Piano Player, We Cut Heads, and High and Low. He has been part of the perfect trio that performs on The Arbitrary Indiscriminate Movie Podcast. He is the one called Spencer Seams and he has picked an amazing movie called Burst City from 1982! It is difficult to describe Burst City in terms of subgenre. Let me just say it is part Repo Man, part Fury Road, part A Hard Day's Night, and the rest is some of the most interesting stuff put on film. I hope you enjoy the discussion we had. I have 4 more episodes ready for me to edit, so keep an eye on your podcast feeds. It's going to be wild.
