Snails, phylum Mollusca, class Gastropoda; when feeling threatened, retreat into their shells and stay there to protect themselves. For physiotherapists, the well-established specialties of MSK, Sports, Neuro, Cardiorespi, Women's health forms their shell, the haven. According to common belief, peeking their head outside of this self-prescribed circle of security is equivalent to inviting risk and potential failure. Is it, though? If Jake Sully never stepped into the Avatar world, he would have lived his perfunctory marine life, entirely blind-sighted to the alluring world that existed outside his own. Today, most physiotherapists are unfortunately in a similar space. There is an entire spectrum of avenues that can benefit from a physiotherapist's expertise. However, there is so much fear and reluctance bred in the minds of young physios that we are choosing to remain unaware of positions outside our small circle. Listen to more of it on our podcast.
Have you zoned out amidst a critical lecture or failed to concentrate while the patient described their history? Did you ever feel the need to have a superpower to not feel drowsy all the time and efficiently tasking things? Have you been overburdened by deadlines that your brain wasn't able to streamline thoughts? As Physical Therapists, we need to have high visual and auditory processing for articulating thoughts and formulating a correct diagnosis. Simply put, our brain always needs a little bit of pampering. And we have collated a list of nutrients and herbs that do just that. We would also highly recommend a Neuro Physiotherapist to scan through this article and make that small informed decision in alliance with the correct professional to create a difference in your patient's disease progression.
This study compares the effects of a multimodal movement intervention (coordinative–cognitive exercises and dancing program) with standard physical therapy on gait, physical function, and quality of life in 60-80 year-old patients with lumbar spinal stenosis over a six week trial period. The primary outcome measures used for analysis were Minimum toe clearance (MTC), double step length (DSL) variability, and the Timed “Up & Go” test (TUG). The secondary outcome measures used were the Brief Pain Inventory, the short Fall Efficacy Scale–International (sFES-I), and the Oswestry Disability Index. The authors concluded that the Multimodal Intervention group had significantly lower MTC variability than the PT group which signifies a low variability in the normal gait stride. There were no changes observed in DSL in this group. The Multimodal Intervention group reported an improved TUG and a reduced sFES-I. This decreased MTC variability and fear of falling and enhanced functional mobility may reduce the risk of falling.
When our planet rotates on its axis, it takes approximately 24 hours to complete one rotation. So right from the big bang and when life started on planet earth, every living organism follows a natural 24-hour sleep-wake cycle- right from microbes to mammals. Human beings are no different. When our ancestors used to live in forests, they had no clock to tell the time. In fact, time as a concept was invented only in 1500 BC by the Egyptians. They used to tell time by the position of the Sun in the sky. So, it is natural to assume that the sun controls our circadian rhythm.
We now have a plethora of special tests and measures to determine a patient's condition, but observation is the key to obtaining a well-rounded clinical picture. It allows you to narrow your search and avoid overlooking important factors that may be contributing to the patient's condition. You must begin your work as soon as your patient approaches you – it is your observation of the patient that comes before speaking with them..

“The soldier above all others prays for peace, for it is the soldier who must suffer and bear the deepest wounds and scars of war.” – Douglas MacArthu We too are soldiers going through the war of everyday lives, of deadlines and pending bills, of stress and anxiety, of missed trains and missed calls, lost opportunities and dreadful anticipation, of procrastination and expectations. That's why we need love and peace in this world, for ourselves, for those around us; to stop being hurt and hurting others, to stop fighting the war.

“Stop Blaming and Start Taking Responsibility for your Growth.” Every coin has two different sides. Likewise, every education system has its fair share of pros and cons. When we look into the PT Education system, we may see a stagnant, never-changing scenario and be quick to blame them for not progressing fast enough. However, we fail to take responsibility for our part, understand the curriculum units framing, and write it off as inferior to the western world.
