With his signature honesty and humor, Tom opens up about his upcoming comedy tour, including stops in Springfield, Kansas City, and St. Louis, while reflecting on the journey that got him here. From writing for Roseanne to starring alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in True Lies, Tom shares stories from his long and colorful career in television and film. But it's not all about Hollywood — Tom gets candid about life as a single father, raising his two kids (ages 12 and 9), and learning to navigate parenting with vulnerability, humor, and grace. He dives into a wide range of personal and powerful topics, including his ongoing health battles like spinal stenosis and his recovery from a severe case of Covid-19. Tom shares the joys and everyday mishaps of fatherhood, from accidentally using adult shampoo on his daughter to sending her to school in the wrong shoes. He reflects on the lessons he's learned from his own troubled upbringing and how those experiences shaped the way he approaches parenting. Tom also opens up about the dramatic transformation of his sister's life after years of hardship, and speaks candidly about his own journey through addiction and how he's used comedy as a form of therapy and healing. Throughout it all, he discusses the delicate balance of being a present and engaged dad while staying committed to life on the road as a working comedian. Today's witnesses are from Matthew West's website called popwe.org. If you don't know who Matthew West is, he is a singer, songwriter, and storyteller. This website is for the non-profit that he has with his father, a pastor. Matthew and his father encourage people to share their stories. They have various categories of stories. Today, I chose two testimonies from the God Stories Category. Often, we can hear our own story in someone else's story. When we listen to others tell their story, it helps us see that we are not alone. When we hear how God worked in their situation, it gives us hope that He will work in ours, too! I pray when you hear these testimonies, you get the faith and hope to believe that miracles can happen in your situation, also. I pray you know that God is there with you, and if you invite Him into your situation, He can help. I hope you enjoy these testimonies.Brande: I have been dealing with back problems for a while and couldn't figure out what was going on. I was overweight so I thought that maybe that was the problem. But the more weight I lost the worse my pain became. In April of this year, I had an MRI done and found out I have Degenerative Disc Disease, Arthritis and Spinal Stenosis. I also have a tear in one of my discs and my L5 is pushing on my S1.So, in July I had an injection, and it didn't work. I went back to the doctor in August, and he had set up another injection for Sept 20th. But a week before, the doctor office called and said that my insurance would not approve another injection until I see the nurse practitioner. After I hung up the phone that day, I was upset. We were busy at work, and I was in a lot of pain. After work, I sat in my car and cried, feeling defeated. I wanted to give up.Then, as I was driving home from work, “Don't Stop Praying” come on and I started bawling. I knew that was God telling me not to stop praying.I shared this at church, and someone there works for SSDI. She called me and helped me start the process of filling for that assistance.I know this is all an answer to my prayers. That song means more to me than anyone could ever imagine not just for this situation but others as well.My name is Suzie, and this is my testimony of God's strength.Three months ago, I was faced with a dark season. This is a season I never asked for and never thought in a million years I would ever have to go through. I was lied to, and almost broken. My heart was shattered, and I felt numb to everything. I had no clue how this could happen. How could someone who is supposed to be my life partner do something like this?Being a recovering alcoholic, I could have easily fallen back to drinking to forget everything that was happening. But instead, I choose to turn to God, my Bible, and my pastor. You could say I choose the high road instead of the lonely, dead-end road. I thought I was doing well, and I was trying my hardest to keep my head up and be as strong as I could. Yet, it hurt, and I was emotionally tired. In reality, I was spiraling and not doing well at all. I felt like I was in tunnel vision and couldn't get out. I then took the first step in healing by admitting to myself I needed help and reached out to talk with a counselor. Admitting out loud that I needed help emotionally and mentally and that I was not ok, was a huge step in getting through this. In all thisI was getting signs that I needed to let go of everything I was holding onto. Which I really thought I had done. But in truth I was not listening to what God was saying to me. Until one Saturday morning. I got a message from a friend checking in on me to see how I was doing. After talking with her I felt God telling me I need to let go of everything I am holding on to so I could start to really heal. So, I said a simple prayer that morning before getting ready for the day. After saying the prayer, God started working in my heart. During different times throughout the day, I wanted to leave where I was. But God said “No, you need to stay put. You need to be with others around you.” I soon realized I was right where I need to be, and I am stronger than I realized. I also realized that I was truly holding onto some parts, and I needed to let go and let God work through me to heal.I am blessed beyond words that I have an awesome support system that knows when I am having a rough time or trying to fake it. I realize that I don't have to be strong all the time. It's ok for me to show my emotions and show that I am human. And it's “ok” to not be “ok” and most importantly it's “ok” to have bad days.I am thankful to God and His guidance and the love He has shown me. He has put people in my path through all of this storm for one reason or another. I am grateful for the little reminders He is showing me to keep my head up. I know my path of healing is going to be a long journey and it is not going to be easy. There are going to be tough days and easy days. If it was meant to be easy, then it wouldn't be called a storm. I am ready to see what God has in store for me no matter how long it takes.Psalm 27:14 “Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.”Thank you all for sharing your stories. I know it can be hard to be vulnerable and share what you have gone through. Yet, when we do, it helps others who are in a similar circumstance know there is hope that the same can happen for them. Welcome to Season 4, Episode 37 of Winning Isn't Easy. In this episode, we'll dive into the complicated topic of "Back and Neck Disorders."Host Nancy L. Cavey, a seasoned attorney with extensive experience in disability claims, explores various back and neck disorders, including Cervical Dystonia, Lumbar Radiculopathy, and Spinal Stenosis. Back and neck disorders are commonplace in the disability world - unfortunately, many of them have elements of subjective pain, which carriers love to latch onto as a reason to justify claims denials. Host Nancy L. Cavey will also discuss tests and procedures carriers expect claimants complaining of back or neck disorders to undergo, and how they can either medically bolster a claim against accusations of subjectivity, or, on the other hand, be used against a policyholder. In this episode, we'll cover the following topics:1 - Cervical Dystonia and Your ERISA Long-Term Disability Claim2 - Does Your Long-Term Disability Insurance Carrier Expect You to Undergo the MILD Procedure for Spinal Stenosis?3 - Back Pain Caused by Lumbar Radiculopathy - A Somatic System Disorder That Justifies Prudential's Termination of Long-Term Disability Benefits?4 - Why a Positive Waddell Sign In Your Physical Examination Can Be Used by an ERISA Disability Carrier or Plan to Deny Your ERISA Disability Back ClaimWhether you're a claimant, or simply seeking valuable insights into the disability claims landscape, this episode provides essential guidance to help you succeed in your journey. Exploring the Efficacy of Autologous Platelet Leukocyte Rich Plasma Injections in Chronic Low Back Pain & Understanding Degenerative Lumbar Spinal Stenosis Host David Rosenblum, MD Episode Date: October 25, 2024 In this episode, Dr. David Rosenblum discusses two significant studies related to chronic low back pain and degenerative lumbar conditions. The first study focuses on the use of autologous platelet leukocyte rich plasma (PLRP) injections for treating atrophied lumbar multifidus muscles, while the second study investigates the correlation between muscle atrophy and the severity of degenerative lumbar spinal stenosis (DLSS). Featured Article 1: - Effect of Autologous Platelet Leukocyte Rich Plasma Injections on Atrophied Lumbar Multifidus Muscle in Low Back Pain Patients with Monosegmental Degenerative Disc Disease - **Authors:** Mohamed Hussein, Tamer Hussein Key Points Discussed 1. Background: Correlation between lumbar multifidus muscle dysfunction and chronic low back pain. 2. Study Overview: 115 patients treated with weekly PLRP injections for six weeks, followed for 24 months. 3. Outcome Measures: Significant improvements in NRS and ODI scores, with high patient satisfaction. 4. Conclusions: PLRP injections into the atrophied multifidus muscle are safe and effective for managing chronic low back pain. Featured Article 2: - Degenerative Lumbar Spinal Stenosis Authors:* Gen Xia, Xueru Li, Yanbing Shang, Bin Fu, Feng Jiang, Huan Liu, Yongdong Qiao Key Points Discussed 1. Background: DLSS is a common condition in older adults, often leading to muscle atrophy and disability. 2. Study Overview: A retrospective analysis involving 232 patients to investigate the correlation between muscle atrophy and spinal stenosis severity. 3. Results: - Significant differences in the ratio of fat-free multifidus muscle cross-sectional area between stenotic and non-stenotic segments. - A strong positive correlation was found between multifidus atrophy and the severity of spinal stenosis. - The atrophy was more pronounced on symptomatic sides of the spine compared to contralateral sides. 4. Conclusions: The findings suggest that more severe spinal stenosis is associated with greater muscle atrophy, emphasizing the importance of addressing muscle health in DLSS patients. Discussion: Dr. Rosenblum provides insights into how these studies inform clinical practices for treating chronic low back pain and managing degenerative conditions. He emphasizes the need for comprehensive treatment strategies that consider both muscle health and spinal integrity which may be achieved via peripheral nerve stimulation of the medial branch nerve and multifidus muscle or PRP injection in to the multifidus muscle. Closing Remarks: Listeners are encouraged to stay informed about innovative treatment options and the importance of muscle assessment in managing spinal disorders. **Follow Us:** - Subscribe to the Painexam Podcast for more episodes discussing the latest in pain management research and treatments. - Connect with us on social media [insert social media links]. For individuals grappling with scoliosis, a myriad of concerns can arise, particularly when experiencing symptoms like numbness or neuropathy in their extremities. When dealing with scoliosis, many people wonder how common it really is. Understanding Scoliosis Scoliosis is when your spine curves to the side instead of staying straight. This sideways curve can happen in different parts of your spine, like your lower back, upper back, or neck. It's important to note that scoliosis also involves a twist in the spine. To be called scoliosis, the curve needs to be at least 10 degrees or more. As scoliosis progresses, it can squeeze and stretch the nerves in your spine. These nerves run from your brain to the rest of your body, so when they're affected, it can cause problems like numbness or tingling in your legs and feet. This happens because the twisted spine puts pressure on these nerves, making them send weird signals to your brain. Spinal Stenosis and Disc Herniation Scoliosis can also lead to something called spinal stenosis, which is when the spaces where nerves come out of your spine become smaller. This can make nerve compression worse. Additionally, scoliosis can cause the discs in your spine to bulge or press on nerves, adding to the nerve trouble. If you're experiencing numbness or nerve problems because of scoliosis, it's essential to act early and look into treatments that focus on reducing the curve in your spine. Simply masking the pain won't solve the problem in the long run. Instead, treating the cause by reducing the curve can help your body heal naturally. Whether you're just learning about scoliosis or dealing with nerve issues because of it, taking proactive steps is key. By addressing the root cause of scoliosis and reducing the curve, you can pave the way for better spinal health and overall well-being. To learn more about scoliosis and proactive treatment options, listen to Dr. Tony Nalda's podcast. Artlist.io 847544

Emerging research suggests that fasting might offer therapeutic benefits for spinal stenosis through mechanisms like autophagy and stem cell regeneration. Autophagy, a process activated during fasting, involves the cellular self-cleaning of damaged proteins and organelles, potentially reducing inflammation and aiding in the repair of damaged spinal tissues. Additionally, fasting may stimulate stem cell regeneration, which can lead to the rejuvenation of cells and tissues in the spinal area. These regenerative processes could potentially alleviate some symptoms of spinal stenosis by improving spinal health and function. This week, of course, we talked more about spinal stenosis, which I hope I don't have. I'm guessing I don't because I did not have nerve symptoms until about 2 weeks ago, so mine is from an acute injury. There's a lot that you can do shy of getting surgery, which often has a 4-6 week […]
Today we talked about a few supplements for atherosclerosis, then went on to discuss back issues. We're “back” to spinal stenosis, which is what my mom has, and herniated/bulging discs, which is what I have. There's lots you can do shy of surgery. My mom is having minimally invasive injections to her spine; I'm trying to avoid […]
In this episode, host Dr. Jacob Fleming interviews Dr. Luigi Manfrè, spine interventional neuroradiologist and chair of the European Society of Neuroradiology about treatment of spinal stenosis and spondylolisthesis using interspinous fusion spacers. --- CHECK OUT OUR SPONSOR RADPAD® Radiation Protection https://www.radpad.com/ --- EARN CME Reflect on how this Podcast applies to your day-to-day and earn free AMA PRA Category 1 CMEs: https://earnc.me/Dr9Ojz --- SHOW NOTES Dr. Manfrè reviews his technique for interspinous spacer placement. He uses local anesthesia which he administers with a spinal needle. He adjusts the angulation and entry point using CT, then inserts the guide wire. When he has it positioned between two spinous processes, and when the wire abuts the facet, this is the end point of the guide wire. He then uses soft tissue dilators through a 5mm incision before placing a spacer over the spacer delivery system. He usually places 8-12mm spacers, occasionally using 14mm spacers. One of the main pitfalls that happens when placing spacers is oversizing. Dr. Manfrè believes that this is a more common phenomenon in open surgical decompression due to patient placement in the operating room. Patients are often placed prone with a pillow beneath their abdomen to flex the lumbar spine and aid in exposure and insertion of spacers. However, this causes measurements to be greater than they are in natural spine mechanics. Next, we discuss the historical idea that interspinous spacers induce an unnatural lumbar kyphosis. New research suggests this is not the case. In fact, spacers restore the natural alignment of the spine without inducing kyphosis. Additionally, in patients with stenosis at multiple levels, the addition of a spacer at the worst level improves the morphology of the entire spine. He usually only places one spacer for his patients, and rarely will place two. New unpublished research by Dr. Manfrè on upright MRI shows that spacers placed for patients with spinal stenosis cause expansion of the dural sac by up to 70% by the next day. What's more, in patients with both stenosis and listhesis, placement of a fusion spacer to correct both the stenosis and the instability result in disappearance of listhesis on MR the day after the procedure. --- RESOURCES Dr. Manfrè Website: https://www.manfreluigi.com/index.html Manfrè Articles: https://jnis.bmj.com/content/12/7/673.abstract https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8511561/ https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.15274/INR-2014-10052 ESNR Hands On Spine Course: https://www.esnr.org/en/spine-interventional-neuroradiology-full-hands-on-course/about-catania/ New Procedures in Spinal Interventional Neuroradiology: https://www.springer.com/series/13394

Jimmy Clare is a motivational speaker, Autism Advocate, author, and founder of CrazyFitnessGuy. But before he started his career as a speaker it was a bumpy road when he was younger. Jimmy's Biography Jimmy was born on October 9th in Millburn New Jersey United States. After the birth of Jimmy, doctors told Jimmy's parents that he will not be able to walk without braces or crutches. His family took him home and loved him for who he is. He was also bullied in school from elementary school all the way up to high school. He then stood up to all the bullies and got some of them expelled. He went through nine ear surgeries, and three surgeries in one day. One for 6 wisdom teeth, 2 moles, and the last ear surgery that made number 9. He just keeps proving people wrong with his persistence time after time again. On top of those obstacles, he lives with spinal stenosis every day. For those that don't know what Spinal Stenosis is it's where the spine is pressing tight on the spinal cord. Which makes it hard for him to turn his head from left to right or up and down. What Makes Jimmy So Unique? He is Autistic but he likes to refer to it as "slightly Autistic" because he doesn't have it severe like others. Dedicated And Continues To Better Himself Every day he continues to better himself by working out 6 to 9 times a week. three days a week he practices kickboxing while on the other days he works out on Beachbody on Demand. That's why people refer to him as CrazyFitnessGuy. He also enjoys reading books that he schedules time out of the day to read. But that's not all he also likes to listen to podcasts about improving oneself and time management. He is currently majoring in media studies at my local community college and once he has completed his certificate, he plans on getting his degree in a four-year school. His end goal is to become a motivational speaker to inspire people around the world. On April 12th, 2020 Jimmy also started his own podcast called CrazyFitnessGuy Healthy Living Podcast. He is almost finished with season one and already preparing for another season. Practices What He Preaches Jimmy Clare practices what he preaches every day even if he messes up he keeps trying. He is one of a kind that no one can replace or replicate him. What Makes Him Different From Other Public Speakers? He is no ordinary public speaker. He was diagnosed with Non-Verbal Learning Disorder also known as Autism and this is what he considers to be his unique advantage. There was a point in his life where he thought being different was a bad thing and he was scared that something was wrong with him. But he was younger then and he didn't quite understand what Autism was, this has changed now that he is an adult. He Has Experienced A Lot of Uphill Battles In Life... Growing up he was considered to be a little bigger around the middle than other kids his age and it may have been that his diet wasn't the greatest plus he was on medication that caused weight gain (side-effects). However, it was necessary for him to take the medication to help stabilize his moods and emotions. The weight gain led to bullying and as a result, he was determined to come off his meds and he did over time. He got bullied so often and it was so bad that he would go home in tears every day. It was a horrible experience and he vowed to change all of that. He lost the weight. Jimmy stood up to the bullies and put an end to the bullying. https://www.crazyfitnessguy.com/
