What a conversation! It's really valuable to hear a perspective on Mental Health from someone not only who has worked with incredible people but is himself and amazing bloke. We dig into his own life and Mental Health journey, his work in and out of sport as a psychologist and a highlight of this is really to see the close relationship between Stocker & the doc! A real mutual respect and caring between them just filled us all up. Enjoy! MoW.

Got a question? Text us here and we'll respond next ep! Mow. Todays chat is with Mr. Matthew Murphy or Murph as he has lovingly been known here in Australia for many years. He is the leader of the enormously successful and incredible band the Wombats and as a part of his side project, Love Fame Tragedy is making even more music if you can believe it!!Murph is in LA so we joined him via Zoom as a throwback and it was head first into all things Mental Health. He is 19 months into sobriety, a father of 2, working prolifically and doing the work on himself. So open about all of it and we are very grateful for the conversation. Enjoy! CW: This episode speaks about the devastating issues of gendered violence in Australia and may be triggering for some people to hear. Our 1st chat back this week is with Western Bulldogs Adam Treloar, and we love that on the day of it's release we've got cohost Liam Stocker lining up against our guest tonight at Marvel Stadium!! Adam has lead the atypical life for people at the elite level of footy anf this was an incredibly humbling conversation to say the least. Adam has felt the benefits of sharing his Mental Health struggles in the past and is now such a vocal and proactive leader in this space, we are very proud to have had him along for this episode and we hope you enjoy! MoW.
From the outside looking in, Dan has it all. A past career as a professional AFL Footballer, runner-up success on Australia's version of one of the world's most recognisable reality TV shows - Big Brother and an incredibly enviable social media presence, amassing over 9 million followers (yes, 9 million) and over 486 million likes on his TikTok!However, we learnt very quickly that the other side of Dan is as raw and vulnerable as many of us without his status. We can't thank Dan enough for joining us and diving in straight away into some stories and experiences that many of us wouldn't know or expect from such an outwardly positive, humorous superstar! We are really grateful to Dan for joining us on the pod and took so many learnings from this chat. We hope you enjoy and can take as much out of this one as we did.Big love, MoW.
Mini number 7. The last one before big life changes, start of AFL seasons so it was nice to find an hour for us to put it in neutral and catch up. If we haven't recommended this before, then we can't say enough how much it's worth to have conversations like this. Just to put the tools down, focus on a meaningful conversation with people you trust is so valuable. It's not lost on us how lucky we are to have each other to talk to, we hope that it inspires people to do the same. Enjoy! MoW.
Continuing our chats with people in the philanthropic world... Aiden Clarke is the founder of Posisocks. They are spreading positivity one pair of socks at a time and not only are we all about the mission, we are also in the socks! Aiden joined us for a conversation and true to the mission of Posisocks, he brought his honesty and positive self into the studio and oh boy are we grateful for it. Nothing like a fresh pair of socks... Enjoy! MoW.
Of the many conversations we had over Zoom during Covid, this was an especially nice one to finally have in person! Phil and Clemens from Milky Chance we're in Australia as a part of their World Tour and came for a beautiful conversation. The guys are so considerate and have such a special relationship, having been friends and bandmates since they were in high school along with the other members of the band. They have very positive things to say about Aus, they are all for men feeling ok with these conversations about Mental Health and we appreciate them joining us! MoW.

Belle Smith is a weapon. Keep an eye on her in Paris 2024 because she has been and still is performing at the top of her game in most people's favourite Olympic sport... Diving. Belle has had a long career and we spent half this episode reading back the list of accolades! World champion Springboard diver representing Australia at the highest level for 15 years... all of this plus the fact that she was an incredible person and just the loveliest chat to have! She really embodies what we're all about, making Mental Health an easier part of our lives and we are all for it. BIG love to Belle, please enjoy this episode! MoW.
1st ep of 2024! Today we are talking to former AFL player Alex Woodward. Alex sat down with Murph and Stocks for a big chat and it was a ripper. Alex experienced the highs and lows of AFL and even post his playing career he dealt with his share of adversity. His experience as a runner in the AFL Grand Final is a wild story and has been the catalyst for a lot of growth for Alex. We hope everyone enjoys the chat and big thanks to Alex for joining us. Enjoy! MoW.
Mini #5 - this is a chat on the back of some exciting news with a couple of pending Fatherhood updates...! It was a nice chat to hear each of our perspectives on Fatherhood, it's a wild time with a couple kids on the way for Murph and myself! Stocker, our emotional sherpa, asked us a few big questions and shared his own experience and as always he's got a great perspective. These are exciting times and we are grateful to have people we can talk about it all to. It's easy to feel isolated in big moments of change, so conversations like these make a big difference. Enjoy! MoW.
Our first episode with our newly minted host, is with one of our original guests and just about the most positive guy on the planet! Mr. Dyson Heppell joins us for this chat and we couldn't be happier. Dyso has this infectious positivity and an incredible outlook. We talk about his life inside and outside of footy and how he is excited for what's to come. I think this best sums up the chat with something he said... "Life doesn't happen to you, it happens for you" Enjoy this episode of the pod! MoW.
We are back with another mini & there is a special guest joining us for the chat! We talk about embracing your weird, flow state & focusing on the positive & negative sides of our own Mental Health. So great to be having these conversations and we hope you enjoy! MoW.
Today's episode is one that we have wanted to have for a while. Murph and I share a lot of our story and this was an opportunity to paint a broader picture and try to distill who we are into a conversation. We were very grateful to be interviewed by recent guest & new friend in Liam Stocker. Stocks is an incredibly well spoken young man and so passionate about Mental Health, he really made this a comfortable conversation despite the topics being very hard hitting and we love him for it.CONTENT WARNING:A heads up that there is a lot of discussion about suicide, death and grief. Long time coming this chat... Friend of the podcast and cold water enthusiast Mr. Jack Watts joins us for a conversation today!Jack has an infectious energy and his new podcast, the Overly Excited Podcast is probably a very apt description of the man! He is also the founder of Skwosh with one of our favourite souls Jack Stubby Turner! Murph gets into the ups and downs of Jack's football career, one that was nearly the most remarked upon of any player in the last decade and not with a lot of understanding and support. He has grown into his true self though and can find some success and happiness where he is now. He's a gem, big thanks to Jack for joining! We hope you enjoy! MoW.
We are lucky to talk to so many incredible people for the podcast, and today's guest is one of the most infectiously positive and energetic people and we absolutely are all about her... WNBL's biggest grin, Bec Cole. Amazing conversation, Bec shares her experiences around her biggest dips on her Mental Health journey and speaks to her legacy she wants to leave. She is making the game better for her being there and it's so nice to hear how proud she is of hers and her teammates. Enjoy our chat with Bec Cole! Our chat today is a special one. A chance to catch up with each other during this Mental Health Awareness month and we reflect on the 2 week journal challenge. It is so nice to hear the introspection Murph got from the journalling, even if he didn't make it the 2 weeks straight and to be honest it doesn't matter. To come out the other end and be more understanding and have grown a little make's it all worth it. MoW.
We are joined by Nova breakfast radio host, 1 third of Liam, Ben and Belle... Liam Stapleton! It should come as no surprise that Liam is an incredibly well-spoken man and quickly became the best host of the Men of Words in his episode! This was a big chat, so nice to hear stories and perspective of someone who has such a close professional relationship, working with his broadcast partner and best mate Ben for so long now. Hearing about the real world effects of people's online bullying is a pretty stark reminder that people in the public eye are people all the same. Liam is a jet. A soccer fan, a dog fan and a fan of telling stories, big to love to him for coming on! Enjoy.MoW.CONTENT WARNING: We talk through some heavy topics in this episode, covering some of the struggles within Mental ill-health that might be difficult for some people to listen to. Back again with the 2nd MoW mini conversation with the fellas. Today we find ourselves overwhelmed with gratitude and pride in some of the feedback we have received for the pod and share a couple of our favourites. A new challenge... hence the title '2 Weeks' We have set ourselves a little 2 week positive habit challenge in which we will be journalling everyday for 2 weeks. This is a favourite of ours but like most good habits for us, is hard to maintain. This will be a little inflection point to reset, start it up again and see how we feel after a couple weeks. We hope anyone listening is inspired to find something they know is good for them and give them selves their own little 2 week challenge! MoW.

Today's chat is with founder of the Kindness Factory, author and soon to be legendary drummer Kath Koschel! Kath's story is amazing. She is one of a few people to be told twice that she'll never walk again only to defy the odds, she has travelled the country on the kindness of strangers and now travels the world sharing her story and passion for life as a speaker for the Kindness Factory. This was a book recommendation that turned into a chat that turned into a friend and someone we admire, we want to thank Kath for her time and energy and please enjoy this episode of the podcast!---CW: In this conversation we discuss parts of Kath's story that are sensitive and may be hard for people to listen to so we recommend discretion for this one. We cross the board on this one, lots of topics and he is an honesty black-belt! Please enjoy the conversation with Sam Fischer.MoW.
Our chat today is with Australian Singer-songwriter Kita Alexander. Kita's is an unusual trajectory into the music industry… but once she had begun this amazing career there were more than enough roadblocks to dishearten anyone and think about giving up. Fortunately for us, Kita persists and is making great music for the people now and touring Australia for her 1st headline show! She provides a very impressive level of wisdom and introspection throughout this chat and can talk about her tough experiences with a level of gratitude for the lessons they provided and the skills she has to handle life now. Big thanks to Kita, to Warner Music Group and to all of you for listening…! MoW.

Roughy is one of the greats of our game and we are very excited to bring this conversation to the Men of Words community. He can look back now on not only his career, but his health battles as well and appreciates the perspective he has gained from it all. He's got a great understanding and appreciation of Mental Health and is very proud of the work that St. Kilda are doing in that space. We love Roughy. We hope you enjoy this conversation. MOW.
Today's chat is with Melbourne Rebels and Wallabies superstar, Reece Hodge. We caught up with Reece late last year, shortly after he suffered a torn pectoral muscle that put a premature halt to his Spring Tour campaign. We spoke about his career and how quickly things can change. Between last minute call up to play for Australia, through to injuries and lockdowns slowing everything right down.Reece has a really simple, low key approach to maintaining positive mental health which we absolutely love - send a message to mates, grab a coffee or dinner, having casual chats and conversations allow for people to open up and share if they're struggling. He also is a man of routine and consistent approaches to everyday life. You'll hear some of his strategies through routine which he uses to help not only recover post-match, but in everyday life to find his zen.We are incredibly grateful to Reece for finding time to chat to us and are very excited to be having a conversation from someone within a new sporting environment to what we have dealt with in the past! If you're not yet familiar with Super Rugby (we admit it, we're not!) make sure you get to a game to cheer on Reece and the Rebels!Love your work Reece!MoW.
Today our conversation is with Western Bulldogs premiership and B&F player Tom Liberatore. Libba is a legendary name in the world of the AFL, and Tom is one of the much loved players in the league! Tom joined us not long after last season finished and we had an absolute ball chatting to him! We went through his early days of football & being drafted to the Bulldogs under the father-son rule, seeing the focus on Mental Health in the league change and how he came to have a great appreciation for looking after yourself and your mates. We are very grateful for Tom joining us and we hope you enjoy! MoW.
Today our conversation is with Steph Claire Smith! Model, Brand Ambassador, Podcast host & founder of the health & wellness community Keep It Cleaner... Steph is already flat chat and with her little 10 month old legend Harvey in tow, we are extremely grateful she was able to join us for a conversation!! Steph has an incredible demeanour and a great attitude towards health & fitness. the KIC community is all about getting healthy but with the foundation of positive body & mind relationships - that is making sure the exercise & the effort we are putting in is bringing joy to your lives rather than fulfilling some less meaningful, superficial goal. We are very grateful to SCS for sharing the way she did in this chat, talking about pressure in the modelling industry early on in her career & the negative relationships it fostered with her health & body, through to finding a much better balance & devoting her work to promoting that with her best mate Laura with Keep It Cleaner. We are so grateful to Steph and the KIC team for getting this one together & can't recommend the KIC app highly enough! Liam & I tried a couple workouts & oh boy... talk about a booty burn!! Cap Carter - wow. This conversation is one of the hardest hitting, raw and honest conversations we've had to date. Cap is an up and coming Australian musician from Western Sydney with a story and a half to share with you all. From growing up and having his mum leave when he was 10, to being introduced to drugs at 12 and getting caught up with gang life a few years later, Cap has put in a hell of a lot of work over the last 12-24 months recovering. Cap opens up about his own marriage breakdown due to the trauma and addiction but is fast to remind us that these experiences are not an excuse for where his life choices lead him, but definitely a valid reason. This chat touches a lot on the horrors of drug addiction and childhood trauma and we are incredibly thankful to Cap for his honesty and openness. We say it a lot, that we're so grateful for people being willing to open up after knowing us for all of 5 minutes prior to hitting record and this is proof in the pudding. We. Love. Teenage. Dads. Jordy Finlay and Vince Kinna joined us for this conversation today from a very much still in lockdown Melbourne a few weeks ago. These guys are mates making music with no plans to stop making more of both! They have a very clear determination and it's so great to hear each of them bounce off one another and how excited they are to be getting back to playing shows and building the band again. This conversation took a few left turns into some areas that were outside the comfort zone and we are so grateful for the guys taking the chance to lean into an honest and at times vulnerable conversation. Please enjoy! MOW.
In this episode, we talked to entrepreneur and founder of BIANKO Jewellery Belinda Madonini. We love the Women of Words conversations as a way to get new perspective on Mental Health and this is a great one. Belinda has found her way in the jewellery business to have a positive impact on the Mental Health space and in particular raise money for charities improving the lives of women here in Australia and globally. Belinda has a very similar story of discovery to us which made us both very happy to share in that with her and we are so grateful she was able to join us for a chat. Please enjoy!
Today we have a conversation with Clemens Rehbein, one of the founding members and lead singer/guitarist of Milky Chance. What a band, and what a great fella for joining us for a chat! Clemens jumped on from Germany, where they were getting warmed up for their touring starting to kick off again and we are so grateful he made the time for us. We talked about his early days, how Milky Chance came from friendship and continues to be successful for that very reason. Please enjoy the conversation. MoW.
Hannah Evyenia Karydas - Eves Karydas, formally Eves the Behaviour is an Greek Australian artist that we were SO STOKED to have had an evening to chat to as a part of the pod. What a chat! Hannah said to us towards the end of this one that conversations about Mental Health is often something she talks to men about, so we are very grateful that she was willing to join us and think there is a lot to take from this ep. She shows a heap of self-awareness throughout, she talks about being constantly on the sliding scale of Mental Health and is finding what helps her find the balance, which all of us struggle with (even Hannah!) Her perspective she offered on Men's Mental Health was amazing, exactly what I think men need to hear - the positive light our female friends and family view us when we "talk about our stuff". Loved hearing that from Hannah! This year, Reruns EP released with some absolute bangers! We talk about the music and what life threw at her that has fund some closure in being released to the world as songs and SO much more in this episode. Please enjoy! MOW.
