In this episode Dr. Perry has a chat with Chris DaPrato DPT, SCS, CSCS, PES, MFDc the lead instructor and innovator of Integrative Movement Health We discuss the science and applications of cupping in helping pain. There are a lot of myths out there about cupping and Dr. DaPrato sets the record straight. If you have ever wondered if cupping is a theraputic option for you, this is the episode you do not want to miss. Some of the highlights. Movement matters — it's not just passive suction Dr. DaPrato emphasises that MFD is distinct from traditional passive cupping because it combines negative-pressure suction with active movement or loading. Fascial shear, glide and viscoelasticity are key targets Chris explains improving the sliding/ gliding surfaces of fascia, increasing viscoelastic properties and thereby enhancing mobility and tissue responsiveness Cups can be used as neurosensory tools not just mechanical tools One of his points: the cups provide sensory input — mechanoreceptor stimulation, nervous system modulation, proprioceptive feedback — which can influence movement patterns and motor control. Dr. DaPrato currently treats professional and NCAA athletes at UC San Francisco and UC Berkeley, while teaching in the Orthopedic Residency for their School of Medicine. He is a strong proponent and educator for manual therapy in sports and has presented evidence informed practices at conferences both nationally and internationally. After receiving his BS in Human Physiology, his Masters in Physical Therapy from Long Beach, and his Doctorate from Temple University, he went on to become Board Certified in Sports through the APTA. The same thoughts have been a consuming fire and burning wake-up call to me over the past 24 hours. I hesitated to record anything at all (SCS is not a "newsy" or "current events" podcast). In the end, I decided to push the record button for one reason - and one reason only: I wanted to go back and be able to remember how I felt and what I was thinking the day Charlie died. I don't ever want to forget what happened on 9.10.25 and the way I felt on that day. I want my kids to be able to go back and hear what "Daddy" was thinking on that day. May the seed of Charlie Kirk's death propel the Gospel of Jesus Christ only stronger and further across the world.

The delays in repairing the Louise Bridge made Braydon Mazurkiewich decide to put his name on the ballot, and he's bringing a brash style of campaigning to the October 25th by-election in Elmwood- East Kildonan. Part 1 - He knows his way around political campaigns, but after the City of Winnipeg continually missed target dates to get the Louise Bridge open this, Braydon Mazurkiewich decided to try to succeed his late friend Jason Schreyer as councillor for Elmwood- East Kildonan. He takes credit for the flurry of work on-site to get repairs finished. We discusse his appearance at the community committee, where his call for a new bridge to be part of the next budget process was supported. Then he responds to the statements of Coun. Janice Lukes, chair of Public Works, dismissing the idea of a new bridge out of hand. "Maz" believes it's another example of people in the northeast quadrant getting the shaft while residents in southern wards like those of Lukes gets highways and recreation centres. He voices other criticism of the "elites" who he says call the shots at 510 Main Street. and "give lip service" to the needs of the EK ward. Marty Gold prompts a discussion about how difficult travel from the east side of Winnipeg going to the west is continually throttled. 14.00- Speaking to voters at the door, Maz says "it's all about the crime... we've got to clean up our city, man." A: Fascial length is not necessarily more important than strength, but the body adapts from training, loading, and sprinting. However, sprinting alone is insufficient for optimal hamstring recovery. Q: How can fascial length be tested in athletic training (ATR)? A: Currently, there is no way to palpate fascial length. It can only be observed on MRI or ultrasound as imaging techniques improve. An NFL-funded trial is ongoing, examining hamstring injuries and investigating various factors with imaging across several colleges. Q: How does adjusting knee positioning impact hamstring rehabilitation? A: Varying the amount of knee flexion or extension can increase hamstring length and load depending on the specific area of the hamstring. Training hip extension can place more load on the proximal hamstring tendon. Most hamstring injuries occur at the myotendinous junction (proximal), while injuries within the muscle belly tend to heal better. Q: What are the challenges in hamstring rehabilitation for high-level athletes? A: The higher the level of competition, the more complex the situation becomes, often involving "more cooks in the kitchen." The length the hamstring travels between 80% and 100% sprint is no different. A gradual progression back into previous activities is often necessary for effective hamstring recovery. Running more than nine sprints in a session can lead to further hamstring injury. Q: Can AI, such as ChatGPT, replace athletic trainers? A: AI is only as effective as the user and the questions asked. For example, it can build a maintenance program. When asked to include high-speed running and eccentric loading, it then asked if a weekly microcycle was needed. Hopefully, it will not replace athletic trainers' jobs but instead help them to excel at them, especially in optimizing hamstring recovery. Q: What are the key takeaways for athletic trainers from this presentation on hamstring recovery? A: Athletic trainers should start eccentric training early (at a pain level less than 4/10) and incorporate sprinting (running) as soon as possible. It is also crucial to communicate with coaches to target at-risk position groups with maintenance plans throughout the season and to incorporate banded Nordic hamstring curls to maximize range of motion. Q: What is the role of maintenance programs in athletic training, especially concerning hamstring injuries throughout a season? A: Maintenance programs are vital throughout the season to prevent recurrences and soft tissue injuries. During SAC camps, the key is to prevent overtraining and identify athletes who don't self-regulate. Sprint training should occur early in SAC camp or during the day's workout before lifting. For in-season maintenance, hamstring work should be incorporated on match day and two days after, ideally 3-4 days before the next match day.
