Housing and Addictions Minister Bernadette Smith and other "experts" tried to convince home and business owners in the North Logan area that a safe consumption site is more important than their safety and their property values. At the start it was announced that another meeting was added for next week, a retreat by the NDP of their plan to hold only one public session. Then, Smith proceeded to lay a goose egg with a total reversal of her assurances of a robust police presence near an SCS during the previous Disraeli Town Halls. Calling police to the Henry site would be "a last resort", pumping the Downtown Community Safety Partnership handling things. The DCSP is already under fire for failing to respond to urgent situations in the East Exchange- and it doesn't seem to be trusted in North Logan either.Smith described a pipeline to haul problematic addicts from the SCS to the "sobering centre" now slated for the Disraeli building, but her and her experts repeatedly ducked questions about rehab and recovery programs available for the drug users. Listen to how "a very fragile community" has been spiraling downwards as Siloam Mission expanded operations on Princess Street, with complaints about increasing vandalism, theft, confrontations and human waste resulting. Through it all, Police Inspector Helen Peters didn't utter a peep. Neither did area councillor Vivian Santos.42.45 Part 3- You'll hear how Smith tried to leverage the tragedy of a father whose son died to justify the need for the site. He had already spoken about his opposition to the SCS - and returned to the microphone to admonish Smith, especially because his son was not an addict."You don't get to own my story," Joseph intoned, warning Smith not to use his family to advance her "harm reduction'" agenda. Meanwhile, attendees asked about how much was spent on the Henry Ave. proposal so far- and got no answer.An SCS can affect property insurance and home and property values; drug dealers can lurk in nearby public parks to sell toxic drugs to site users; yet Smith and her experts showed no care for the worries of hardworking residents and business operators. "It will save lives" rings hollow, when the lives and investments of neighborhood stakeholders can be ruined.

She performs faculty and staff training in concussion and emergency management of the performer, screening, and treatment of performing arts patients and coordinates and performs on-site triaging, backstage treatment services for U-M SMTD. She has developed a post-operative protocol for returning to dance, a post-concussion return plan for university performers, and injury risk assessments for figure skaters, gymnasts, and instrumentalists. For over 15 years, she has coordinated musculoskeletal injury risk screening and neurological baseline testing for the U-M SMTD including analysis of individual screenings and customized exercise prescription. Dr. Schuyten has been a volunteer physiotherapist for the US Figure Skating national medical team since 2013, coordinating care for local, regional, and national figure skating championships, as well as providing support for the team during Olympic and World Championship events. Dr. Schuyten has delivered presentations at both national and international conferences focusing on concussion, injury risk assessment, and wellness related to the performing arts. Additionally, she provides lectures and workshops on these topics at other colleges and universities, dance studios, skating rinks, and online educational modules regarding Performing Arts Rehabilitation. She is a member of the Faculty Council at the University of Michigan Concussion Center and has collaborated on several papers that highlight research regarding post-concussive return to learn and return to performance progressions for university students in the performing arts.

Nate welcomes Marc Cerbone to the show, a 1992 Sidney graduate whose baseball career took him around the world and even to the Olympics. Marc was a standout pitcher at SCS, and in his senior year he threw the only perfect game in school history against Walton. He played NAIA baseball at Dominican University before beginning an 11-year professional career that included several seasons in Italy. Marc also represented Team Italy in international tournaments, including the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. His Olympic jersey was once displayed in the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. Now a state trooper in North Carolina, Marc talks about his journey from baseball to police work, and much more.

In this episode Dr. Perry has a chat with Chris DaPrato DPT, SCS, CSCS, PES, MFDc the lead instructor and innovator of Integrative Movement Health We discuss the science and applications of cupping in helping pain. There are a lot of myths out there about cupping and Dr. DaPrato sets the record straight. If you have ever wondered if cupping is a theraputic option for you, this is the episode you do not want to miss. Some of the highlights. Movement matters — it's not just passive suction Dr. DaPrato emphasises that MFD is distinct from traditional passive cupping because it combines negative-pressure suction with active movement or loading. Fascial shear, glide and viscoelasticity are key targets Chris explains improving the sliding/ gliding surfaces of fascia, increasing viscoelastic properties and thereby enhancing mobility and tissue responsiveness Cups can be used as neurosensory tools not just mechanical tools One of his points: the cups provide sensory input — mechanoreceptor stimulation, nervous system modulation, proprioceptive feedback — which can influence movement patterns and motor control. Dr. DaPrato currently treats professional and NCAA athletes at UC San Francisco and UC Berkeley, while teaching in the Orthopedic Residency for their School of Medicine. He is a strong proponent and educator for manual therapy in sports and has presented evidence informed practices at conferences both nationally and internationally. In the end, I decided to push the record button for one reason - and one reason only: I wanted to go back and be able to remember how I felt and what I was thinking the day Charlie died. I don't ever want to forget what happened on 9.10.25 and the way I felt on that day. I want my kids to be able to go back and hear what "Daddy" was thinking on that day. A: Fascial length is not necessarily more important than strength, but the body adapts from training, loading, and sprinting. However, sprinting alone is insufficient for optimal hamstring recovery. Q: How can fascial length be tested in athletic training (ATR)? A: Currently, there is no way to palpate fascial length. It can only be observed on MRI or ultrasound as imaging techniques improve. An NFL-funded trial is ongoing, examining hamstring injuries and investigating various factors with imaging across several colleges. Q: How does adjusting knee positioning impact hamstring rehabilitation? A: Varying the amount of knee flexion or extension can increase hamstring length and load depending on the specific area of the hamstring. Training hip extension can place more load on the proximal hamstring tendon. Most hamstring injuries occur at the myotendinous junction (proximal), while injuries within the muscle belly tend to heal better. Q: What are the challenges in hamstring rehabilitation for high-level athletes? A: The higher the level of competition, the more complex the situation becomes, often involving "more cooks in the kitchen." The length the hamstring travels between 80% and 100% sprint is no different. A gradual progression back into previous activities is often necessary for effective hamstring recovery. Running more than nine sprints in a session can lead to further hamstring injury. Q: Can AI, such as ChatGPT, replace athletic trainers? A: AI is only as effective as the user and the questions asked. For example, it can build a maintenance program. When asked to include high-speed running and eccentric loading, it then asked if a weekly microcycle was needed. Hopefully, it will not replace athletic trainers' jobs but instead help them to excel at them, especially in optimizing hamstring recovery. Q: What are the key takeaways for athletic trainers from this presentation on hamstring recovery? A: Athletic trainers should start eccentric training early (at a pain level less than 4/10) and incorporate sprinting (running) as soon as possible. It is also crucial to communicate with coaches to target at-risk position groups with maintenance plans throughout the season and to incorporate banded Nordic hamstring curls to maximize range of motion. Q: What is the role of maintenance programs in athletic training, especially concerning hamstring injuries throughout a season? A: Maintenance programs are vital throughout the season to prevent recurrences and soft tissue injuries. During SAC camps, the key is to prevent overtraining and identify athletes who don't self-regulate. Sprint training should occur early in SAC camp or during the day's workout before lifting. For in-season maintenance, hamstring work should be incorporated on match day and two days after, ideally 3-4 days before the next match day.
