"If you don’t believe in God, I can understand you, but if you don’t believe in love, I feel sorry for you", heißt es gleich im "Intro" von "Everything You Can See From Up Here", dem unlängst erschienenen Album von Gabriel Vitel.

What if you started a band with your best friend in high school - and the first song you put out went straight to the top of the charts? Sure, the journey singer/guitarist Clemons Rehbein and drummer/bassist Philipp Dausch have been on after meeting up in Kassel Germany isn't that simple...but it is remarkable that a decade after "Stolen Dance" and the blockbuster album behind it Sadnecessary changed their lives - their friendship and deeply-intiuative sonic connection have never been stronger. I was able to call into their tour bus to talk about their humble start to headlining Red Rocks and touring four continents behind their lush new record Living In A Haze. More than ever, the new LP mixes their roving love of jazz, electronic dance music, reggae and folk forms into a sound that is wholly their own. Standout international collabs with Charlotte Cardin (Quebec) and Fatoumata Diawara (Mali) create a gorgeous aural tapestry that is still danceable but shares more raw emotion than previous releases. Both Clemons and Philipp are dads now, so a three month tour is a big family affair - with their band, there are seven kiddos on the bus. Throughout our talk, it was stirring to hear how they've kept the creative fires burning while balancing new pressures like family and relative fame while keeping their own ever-evolving friendship growing. Also, they let us know exactly what a "disco boy" is...and why dancing the night away is still the best medicine if you're feeling lost.

In just a few short decades, Germany has transformed into an epicenter of the arts. Whether it's painting, writing, or music, artists from all over the world know that Germany is a place where your creativity can flourish. That reputation has led many to this European country, not just to create art, but also to appreciate it in a more tangible way. It's also become a place where people can build a new life and start again; which is something we beautifully explore across this episode. I've been to Germany a few times throughout my life and crafting this episode made me appreciate the country in a new way. My favorite thing that I learned was that to Germans: the only rule of creativity is for artists to challenge themselves and the audience. Joining me today are three artists who symbolize the eclectic creativity that Germany fosters. I'm joined by the unbelievably talented Wallis Bird (3:45), Milky Chance (45:40), and Meagre Martin (1:23:12). Also, next week I'll be dropping a radio broadcast that goes along with this episode. The playlist for that will be full of incredible German artists (along with other artists who call Germany home). That radio broadcast will be dropping on September 12th and you'll find that only on Spotify. RIP to Kieran (aka Profound Beats). The track you're hearing in the intro is his tune Twilight in Taipei.

We had the pleasure of interviewing Kings Elliot over Zoom video. One of 2022's most promising new voices Kings Elliot releases her sophomore EP Bored Of The Circus via Verve Forecast/Interscope. The EP is also available to purchase on limited edition 10'' vinyl. Along with the EP, Kings Elliot releases the official music video for “Ashes By The Morning.” WATCH “ASHES BY THE MORNING”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4oZ5HKaWos LISTEN TO BORED OF THE CIRCUShttps://kingselliot.lnk.to/BoredoftheCircus On Bored Of The Circus, the half-Swiss, half-British singer-songwriter further establishes herself as one of altpop's leading up-and-comers. Elliot digs into her deepest emotions while crafting finely wrought pop songs that feel both incredibly intimate and otherworldly. The contrast between her to-the-bone lead vocal, which precisely describes her internal torment, and the voices surrounding her, a hovering choir accompaniment made up of multiple tracks of Kings' own voice and arranged by chief collaborator halfrhymes, results in an out-of- time musical experience that heightens all the knotty emotions outlined in her lyrics as she explores themes of mental health, innocence, heartbreak, growth, and hope. Elliot recently concluded supporting U.S. pop-rock megaforce Imagine Dragons on their North American stadium tour, which kicked off in early August. She also took the School Night stage on September 12th at Bardot in Los Angeles alongside Josh Fudge, Reve, and Cian Ducrot. Elliot remains a leading advocate for mental health - an open book with her fans, she explores and speaks openly about her battle through her music and her social pages have become a safe haven and space of community for fans. Her bruising honesty and dedication to the craft of songwriting have already made her beloved by fans around the world, and she's already been called “a future star” by BBC6 music maven Chris Hawkins. Kings Elliot has already received critical praise from Consequence, Teen Vogue, Billboard, Clash, Wonderland, The Line of Best Fit, COLORS and Lyrical Lemonade, among others, as well as social support from Reese Witherspoon, Dixie D'Amelio, Lewis Capaldi and Milky Chance. Her music has been added to a host of notable Spotify and Apple Music playlists as well. We want to hear from you!
