Mason welcomes nutritionist, author, actor, podcaster, yoga teacher and public figure, Lola Berry, on to the show today, for a grounded and insightful chat on the art of failure, and how to repurpose the energy behind adversity and loss into the creation of something beautiful, purposeful, and close to your heart. Having ventured into the world of acting from the tender age of 18, Lola is no stranger to rejection. Anyone who operates within an industry where the stakes are high and the failure rate is about 99%, has to have thick skin. Lola has just that.  As a hard working triple Virgo, and self proclaimed A type personality, Lola always digs deep, choosing to fuel her pursuits through embodied optimism, a stance that allows her to embrace personal setbacks with the gumption of the phoenix rising; the one who recognises that renewal and rejuvenation can be found in the fiery ashes of the alchemical process.  It's refreshing to hear Lola speak to failure as something that is workable, a medium that is malleable and open to interpretation, especially as the fear of failure is so often associated with people not taking action on the dreams and visions that lay dormant inside them, waiting to be birthed and appreciated by the world at large. Lola teaches us that with an open and hopeful heart, diligent gestures of effort, and an unwavering belief in the infinite possibilities available to those who try, success is always an option, no matter what that may mean to each individual.  Mason and Lola speak to the value in consistently seeking support, celebrating therapy as an integral component to self evolution, grace and forward momentum. Lola's enthusiasm, unapologetic passion and grounded authentic nature are such a balm, her welcoming, encouraging and inspiring presence reminding us that failure need not be an obstacle in the pursuit of our passions, more so a stepping stone that enables us to reimagine our trajectory with humility, patience and a willingness to prevail.    Lola & Mason discuss: - Embracing failure as a tool for self evolution. - The brutal nature of the acting industry. - Trusting the unknown & feeding your soul fire. - The power of living in alignment with your personal truth. - Mental health and the value in seeking the support of a therapist.  - Being an open vessel for spirit to work through. If there was one thing you think society should talk more about, what would it be?“Failure. I believe it's something to be celebrated. We get to learn, grow, skill up and better understand ourselves as a result of failure.” _____I met today's guest many years ago in Uluru when she came and ran yoga sessions for all the participants at a corporate conference I was attending. She was fantastic and her energy, practical approach and beautifully frank demeanour made me love her immediately. Lola Berry went on to do so many things since then - today she's an actor, TV host, podcaster, nutritionist and writer. Lola is a best selling author of 11 books and has worked in the media industry for over a decade. She's into her 5th year of studying acting and TV hosting and is currently living between Los Angeles and Byron Bay. Lola is a regular guest on TV shows and ambassador for Aussie household brands like Oral B, ANZ, Honda Cars, Campbell's and Grill'd burgers. Lola is also the co-creator of medicinal brain tonic coffee Lola Coffee. Lola has a podcast called “Fearlessly Failing with Lola Berry” where she interviews notable profiles about their failures and how it's the tough times that actually shape and help us to grow. Lola is passionate about inspiring and empowering others to look after themselves mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. The podcast led to the release of her 11th book (!!) with the same title - Fearlessly Failing and is all about how to grow through challenges and embrace the lessons so-called failure can teach us. Lola's a “what you see is what you get” kind of girl. No bells and whistles, just the real deal and as you're about to hear…so bloody refreshing! It's also about how to spot the signs leading you towards your life purpose, how to achieve lasting personal growth as well as what our body can teach us about finding true joy and lasting health. For more information about Lola, check out these places;- Instagram: @yummololaberry Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lola-berry/Head to michellejcox.com for more information about the ONE QUESTION podcast, your host or today's guestsConnect with Michelle on Linkedin here:- @MichelleJCoxConnect with Michelle on Instagram here:- @michellejcoxConnect with Michelle on Facebook here - @michellejcoxAND, if you have a burning topic you'd love people to talk more about, or know someone who'd be great to come on the One Question podcast, please get in touch;- hello@michellejcox.com

I love this chat so much because it is candid, raw, honest and in it you will learn that Lola Berry wasn't always Lola Berry, she was born Lauren Smith, was even once a cool DJ called Lauren Heaven (and yes I even attended one of her gigs!) and then changed her life to become the "Steve Irwin of Nutrition" and pushed herself into the limelight by creating her own YouTube channel and knocking on the doors of Channel 10 to get her first gig. Lola "hustled" before it was a popular term, worked hard, copped failure on the chin and kept going. It was hard for me to hear her speak about how she suffered for so long with an eating disorder and putting her sense of value and self-worth in the hands and eyes of others, which materialised in self-sabotage and emotionally damaging relationships. But I am so happy to learn that Lola is now in such a good place in her life currently with her new partner "Bosso", living between LA and Byron (dreamy!) and pursuing her dreams of acting in the USA. Lola is a legend, she is an inspiration, but she also one of us, someone that has gone through lots of shitty times but it doesn't mean that it has kept her down. In fact, it's done the opposite and through this chat you will learn just that. I really hope that you enjoy this chat as much as I did! Lola Berry is one of the OGs of the Australian wellness scene, she's a nutritionist, author and podcaster who as you'll hear shortly, takes a more lenient approach to clean living than most. In her new book - her 11th! - Fearlessly Failing (Affirm Press, $29.99) - she explores why failure is the best thing that can ever happen to you, seriously. Stuff ups may cause major cringe, but according to Lola, failure is something we should not only run towards but also embrace. Like big, warm hug vibes. In this chat, Lola not only talks about her own failures - from career mistakes to heartbreaks - she also opens up about her mental health journey and her new life in LA. She earns herself the moniker ‘the naughty nutritionist' too. Life is about learning to adapt and let things go that no longer serve us. Today on the podcast I had on a friend, Lola Berry. Lola is someone who has mastered the art of letting go of what doesn’t serve her and being compassionate to herself in the process. She is a nutritionist, author, accredited yoga teacher, content creator, presenter, speaker, podcaster and entrepreneur who has a colorful approach to nutrition. In this episode, we chat about why failures need to be celebrated and about cultivating a willingness to learn, take a chance and see how things go. We talk about a few of her entrepreneurial endeavors including her shift from a smoothie business to a coffee business and her experience of going back to school to study acting. She also talks about the importance of keeping people around who are cheering you on and why she thinks everyone should have a therapist. (This episode was pre-recorded on February 11, 2020)  What’s in this episode: How Lola and Amy met each other  The idea of learning through your struggles and how this brought on Lola’s podcast Why failures need to be celebrated How Lola’s cultivated all of her passions into her purpose  Her transition from a smoothie business to a coffee business How writing her book, The Happy Life, helped her through a tricky heartbreak Her advice for people who are nervous to take the next steps What a typical day looks like for Lola  Why Lola is studying acting and how she discovered her passion for filming How Lola has learned to let go of what’s no longer serving her Learning to have self-compassion and how to channel your energy into positivity  Keeping people around you who are rooting for you Why you shouldn’t base your worth depending on the Instagram algorithm Her advice for someone struggling to prioritize their health and wellness About Lola:Lola Berry is a nutritionist, author, accredited yoga teacher, content creator, presenter, speaker, podcaster and entrepreneur. She’s very colorful. She’s very passionate. She’s very Australian. Over the years she’s admired Steve Irwin and always wanted to bring that passion and enthusiasm to any project she focuses on. Lola’s colourful approach to nutrition is supported by the Bachelor of Health Science she completed at Endeavour College of Natural Health, where she majored in Nutritional Medicine. Her nutrition studies propelled her to write ten books – Inspiring Ingredients, The 20/20 Diet, The 20/20 Diet Cookbook, Lola Berry’s Little Book of Smoothies and Juices, The Happy Cookbook, The Happy Life, Lola Berry’s Summer Food, Food to Make You Glow, Beauty Food and The Yoga Body. In 2017 Lola opened Happy Place by Lola Berry, a smoothie bar co-created with Salvatore Malatesta from St Ali. After a successful 3 year run, the South Melbourne smoothie bar closed its doors so Lola could focus on her new venture – Lola Coffee. Lola launched Lola Coffee to the market in August 2019 and the first batch sold out within hours! The brew is a speciality instant coffee with lion’s mane; it’s a healthy, insane brain tonic coffee. Concurrently in 2019, Lola focused on media work. She completed courses and training in TV presenting (special focus on reading autocue), acting, dialect and voice work. Each of these are aimed at helping build her skill set as a professional speaker, TV presenter and professional media talent. She also launched Fearlessly Failing with Lola Berry – an interview podcast about failures with guests including Megan Gale, Georgia Love and Olivia White. Lola loves to interview people about the lessons and failures that have ultimately led to people's success. It’s the “not so shiny times'' that actually shape us and make us stronger. Lola created, hosts and produces (with Matt Sofo) the podcast. Lola is a highly sought after expert for speaking, nutrition consulting, cooking demonstrations and yoga classes. Lola is also very passionate about mental health and talks about it being the key to all elements of health. Lola’s message is to be real, be kind and chase your dreams, no matter how big they are. When it comes to getting the world excited about health and good food, there is very little Lola Berry won’t do. She’s convinced a TV host to swallow raw wasabi on live national television. She’s dived into dumpsters on the streets of New York (…and eaten from one!). She has also run madly in search of water after daring to munch on one of the world’s hottest chillies, and handed out actual Black Eyed Peas to celebrities at an official “Black Eyed Peas” red carpet event (…and they loved them!). Lola is very colorful, very passionate and very Australian. The author of ten books, Lola Berry knows what she’s talking about. But in this conversation we talk very little about nutrition and more an exploration of facing fear, not comparing ourselves to others, the value of therapy and mindset, and staying true to who you are. The Healthy Hustlers Podcast

Born and bred in Melbourne, it doesn't seem overly necessary to give the uber successful Lola Berry a formal introduction. The nutritionist, regular TV guest, author and owner of Happy Place Smoothie Bar here in Melbourne, Lola quickly gained the attention of Australians when she lost 20 kilograms in just 20 weeks by adopting a paleo inspired diet.Lola's transformation sparked the release of her first two books The 20/20 Diet and The 20/20 Cook Book and today the energetic, happy go lucky foodie is the author of 10 incredible books. The queen of the kitchen in our eyes, but some would say Lola has had more than her fair share of backlash and negative criticism. In this interview Lola speaks about how she deals with the naysayers and despite them continues to thrive. In line with the release of her 10th book The Yoga Body, which we must add is absolutely incredible and potentially her best yet, we chat to this laid back babe about what it takes to truly live your truth, how to continue to always run your own race and what spiritual practices help keep her grounded.

My next guest needs little introduction. Lola Berry is a nutritionist, a yoga teacher and is the author of ten best-selling books. Her name is synonymous with her happy-go-lucky persona and her vivaciousness for life, but what she rarely reveals is the criticism that she receives behind the scenes. As a well-known personality, Lola has faced a barrage of unkind criticism judging the way she looks, what she wears, her weight, and her very being.I actually met Lola nearly ten years ago when both of our lives looked very different. At the time, Lola had began to regularly appear on television, and was featuring in segments that didn’t always reflect her true values. Lola and I discuss how we can tune into our guiding principles and true self to transform our inner and outer worlds. Lola shares the strategies that she’s adopted that’s allowed her to be the version of herself, and to be an active and joyful participant in her own life.

When does time stop for you? When do you find yourself so deep in flow that an hour can fly by like a minute? Well that’s a great way to know that you are tapping your passions.  For my guest, who you may know as the wellness influencer Lola Berry, that feeling can come from cooking, writing about cooking - she’s now written 10 healthy eating books - teaching and practicing yoga and making video content. She’s also a public speaker and TV presenter, she has a smoothie bar in South Melbourne called Happy Place, and she has leveraged her background as a nutritionist into being a brand ambassador and media personality.  Lola has taken what she loves and turned into a career and a personal brand. The term personal brand seems to have a weird stigma around it, maybe because there are so many people trying to claim it, but when you are contributing as much to the health and wellness landscape as she is, I think it’s more than warranted. I couldn’t wait to talk to her about her creative process, how she got into doing what she is doing and how she manages to fit it all in - and still find the time to vlog about it. She is thoroughly modern business woman and an absolute inspiration. Please enjoy my chat with Lola Berry.

This week's episode is a supercut, a compilation, a best of, a mix tape! It features some of the best moments of the show over the last year or two that share the theme of overcoming adversity. We start with the Hon. Leeanne Enoch, Minister for Innovation, Science and the Digital Economy and Minister for Small Business in the seat of Algester in Queensland. Leeanne is the first Aboriginal Australian Woman to be elected into the Qld Parliament, a woman who grew up On Country in North Stradbroke Island and then in Woodridge housing commission on the southern fringes of Brisbane. She shares here how, as a kid, she made sense of her relatively low socioeconomic circumstances. We then move on to Deng Adut. In his recent book “Songs of a War Boy” Deng describes in chilling detail the life of a child soldier - which includes horrific first hand accounts of battle, torture, death, and the kind of barbaric brutality that only humans inflict on other humans. When he was twelve, he was rescued by his older brother and smuggled out of Sudan into Kenya where he met an Australian couple that helped him and his brother come here to start a new life - and that new life is what we talk about here.Carly Findlay is next; Carly is an appearance activist, blogger, and writer who was born with Ichthyosis. This basically causes her skin to renew itself at an incredibly fast rate, leaving her susceptible to dryness, inflammation, itchiness, and gives her a noticeably red complexion - which is also shiny because she has to constantly apply paraffin to her skin so as to alleviate the pain and discomfort. We then hear from Lola Berry, a nutritionist, author, blogger, speaker and advocate for happiness. She even wrote a book about happiness. She's a woman who has inspired hundreds of thousands of people all around the world to be kinder and more caring to themselves through food and nourishment - not just of their bodies but of themselves as a whole. A trigger warning at the top here. Sexual assault is a part of Lola's story and she talks about that today.I hope you get some value out of this special episode, dedicated to the challenge of overcoming adversity.
