Despite her global influence, we really didn't think we'd ever have an episode of the Music News that looks so closely at Taylor Swift. Alas, here we are. News broke on Friday that Swift had purchased the rights to her first six albums following years of dispute, re-recording and discussion around the rights artists ought to have over their own work. Meanwhile, Aussie icon Pete Murray has followed Taylor Swift's lead and begun re-recording the early hits that he doesn't own. In this episode, we go deep on these two stories and the questions, answers and implications that they leave us with. Also, if you found yourself negatively impacted by our recent instagram post, we address that one too...Thanks for listening! It's been 17 years since Pete Murray last graced Kiwi stages. The 3x number one album selling Australian singer-songwriter has announced a 55 date tour in Australia – including four stops in New Zealand. He'll be in the country next month, bringing just himself and his guitar. Murray told Mike Hosking that although he last performed here 17 years ago, he's made the journey across the ditch much more recently. “Loved New Zealand, getting back over there and holidaying with the family just recently too,” he said. “In fact, when Covid hit a few years back, I got the last flight out of the place back to Australia.” Murray joked that they were probably disappointed to get the flight, saying it would've been nice to stay in the country during lockdown. But he told Hosking that 17 years without performing here is too long. “I'm going back to correct that now, so, looking forward to it actually.” “It's going to be good fun.” LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On today's podcast, I have ‘Pete Murray,' who has just had his very obvious reveal on ‘The Masked Singer Australia' this week. If you missed Murray's performance as ‘Tiny' you can go back and check them out on ‘Ten Play' and you really should because he was truly magnificent…. I loved his ‘Beach Boys' and his ‘Post Malone.' Actually who am I kidding I loved every song he performed over the month. ‘Pete Murray' is an Australian musician who has had three albums reach number 1 on the Australian charts. ‘Murray' has received 17 ARIA nominations throughout his career so far. He has sold over 1.2 million albums in Australia. So having him on The Masked Singer was a huge win for Ten! I am a huge fan of ‘Pete's' and it is a joy to chat with him today. I will ask if ‘Chrissie Swan' and ‘Pete' have actually ever met before and if she was pretending not to know him? ‘Pete' will talk about his decision to join the singing show… and if this is the only Reality TV he would do! We will talk about his song choices over the last few weeks and what he had lined up next - if he had survived! Plus we will get plenty of exclusives from behind the scenes of ‘The Masked.' Which returns next Monday night on ‘Network Ten' and if you have fallen behind you can catch up on - on ‘Ten Play.' See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

There's no argument that we, as humans, learn from our mistakes. As we grow, we apply learnings from our negative or challenging experiences in order to be happier, more comfortable, or more prepared in the future. As parents though, it can be a challenge to give our children the opportunity to fail at something—especially when we have the foresight to see it coming and the ability to prevent it. But is it doing our kids justice if we always shield them from the often valuable lessons that come from failing? Our guest Pete Murray, a father of two teenagers and former Boy Scouts of America troop leader, says no. Pete joins us to chat about his childhood in the Boy Scouts program, and the art of balancing Scoutmaster and Dad. Episode 70 of Modern Dadhood opens with a brief session of commiserating about emotional children and the desire to leave one's body in order to escape the drama. The guys begin talking about Boy Scouts of America. Though neither Adam nor Marc participated in the program, they ponder about the values of the organization before welcoming Pete Murray into the chat. Pete works for Firaxis Games by day, and until recently, served as Scoutmaster for his teenage son's Boy Scouts troop. Pete candidly shares his experiences with Boy Scouts both as a scout he was growing up, and as a leader when his son went through the program. Pete shares a lesson that he learned during his time with Boy Scouts which centers around the notion of failing in a safe environment, and learning from your mistakes to become a more experienced and well rounded person. Other topics include:• Pete's journey spanning multiple roles at Firaxis Games• Boy Scouts as a family tradition• The value of giving young people opportunities to fail and learn from their mistakes• Positive peer pressure• Dad bonding• And more!
