This week we meet Oli and Louis Leimbach, founders of the band Lime Cordiale. The brothers have recently partnered with Endeavour Group's Pinnacle Drinks to release two beers under the Largo brand and I speak to them about the origins of the partnership and the development of the beer, as well as a surprising amount about band riders. Theirs doesn't prohibit brown M&Ms, but is explicit about the beers they want. We are also joined by Hayley Martin, Lead Quality Specialist with Pinnacle Drinks, to learn about the process the company went through to attain robust carbon neutral certification. NY Times Bestselling Author and Oxford University Creative Writing Tutor, Marti Leimbach, on the art and craft of writing and plotting a novel. She shares her journey across two decades within publishing from being on a film set with Julia Roberts to dealing with family loss, and writing about difficult subjects. Also lessons learned including how writing a draft is like being in a ‘sandbox', what it takes to finish and move beyond the first draft, and why some of the best works of art are great because of their imperfection. *ABOUT MARTI LEIMBACHMarti Leimbach is known for her bestsellers Dying Young which was made into a film starring Julia Roberts, and Daniel Isn't Talking. Her interest in science influenced her eighth novel, a YA thriller, Dragonfly Girl. She teaches on the Masters Programme in Creative Writing at the University of Oxford.*QUOTES FROM MARTI:“Novels are never perfect. And some of the best work of art works of art, whether it's novels or screenplay or paintings or whatever else are very imperfect, actually, if you analyze them, that's what made them a great work of art. And Picasso has something to say about that. In fact, he said that the really original work, the important work never looks as good as its imitators. And the reason is that there's something in that first thrust of creativity that is ugly and raw, and the people who imitate you come after you.”*RESOURCESConnect with Marti:Twitter: @MartiLeimbachInstagram: @Marti LeimbachMarti's website*Books mentioned in the show:Daniel Isn't Talking by Marti LeimbachDragonfly Girl by Marti LeimbachSave the Cat by Blake SnyderThe Story Grid by Shawn CoyneBird by Bird by Ann LamottPeople mentioned in the show:Connor O'Brien - ComedianJulia Roberts - ActressJoel Schumacher - DirectorLeonard Cohen - Songwriter*For show notes, transcripts and to attend our live podcasts visit podcast.londonwriterssalon.comFor free writing sessions, join free Writers' Hours: writershour.com*FOLLOW LONDON WRITERS' SALON:Twitter: twitter.com/WritersSalonInstagram: instagram.com/londonwriterssalonFacebook: facebook.com/LondonWritersSalon*CREDITSProduction by Victoria Spooner.

This episode is very timely, and ties into several of our previous episodes where our guests have looked at the different challenges and problems of regaining the strategic initiative in the South China Sea and INDOPACOM region overall. One of those challenges is how to compete, and compete advantageously, below the threshold of armed conflict; for a military organization, it's equally challenging to find tools to put in the hands of warfighters that operate below that threshold. This episode lets us learn about some of those tools available to Marines. Our guest is Colonel Wendell B. Leimbach, Jr. (USMC), Director of the DOD's Joint Intermediate Force Capabilities Office located on MCB Quantico. Col Leimbach is a former Tank Officer currently serving as a Ground Marine Acquisition Officer. Col Leimbach's previous acquisition assignments include service as; Acquisition Team Leader for Individual Body Army and Load Carriage, Program Manager for Tank Systems, Deputy Director for the Marine Personnel Carrier Program; Deputy Program Manager and Acting Program Manager, Advanced Amphibious Assault. He discusses some of the Intermediate Force Capabilities Marines can consider as that stand-in force operating in an environment of strategic competition. What does it mean to be an entrepreneur? Is it focusing on growing one company after the other? Is it a rejection of the corporate world? After climbing the corporate ladder and serving as the CEO of several companies, Keith Leimbach sits down with us today to share what running a business means to him-- and why he chooses to run several businesses ranging from laundromats to small companies. Bill Leimbach chats to us about Walkabout To Hollywood which has just been re-released through Umbrella Films.
My guest today has spent the last few years building and acquiring small businesses and real estate investments to create diversified income streams. He’s invested in franchises, hair salons, laundromats, short-term rentals, car washes, and other assets with lucrative returns but not a lot of information available on how to get started. Luckily, he’s been documenting these experimental investments along the way and will be sharing the details with us today. Keith Leimbach has served as COO and CEO of several companies and he spent 30 years in the corporate world. He served on a US Presidential Advisory Committee and hosts the “Diversified Income Experiment Podcast”. Today Keith is going to open the books on his investments and take us on a deep dive into investing in Laundromats, Hair Salons, and Car Washes. He’ll go into the compelling financial reasons these assets offer superior profit potential, the cost of build-out, expense ratios, and challenges of the different client or end user. It’s extremely difficult to find real world information on these types of investments and you’re definitely going to appreciate how transparent Keith is in sharing his data and experience. You’ll also discover which asset class is Keith’s clear favorite. You can find out more about Keith by website or email: https://www.dincpie.com harry@dincpie.com Today’s episode is brought to you by Green Property Management, managing everything from single family homes to apartment complexes in the West Michigan area. https://www.livegreenlocal.com And RCB & Associates, helping Michigan-based real estate investors and small business owners navigate the complex world of health insurance and medicare benefits. https://www.rcbassociatesllc.com

Was ist hier los? Rick sat down with our mutual friend, Jeff Leimbach, and talked about his new class on KelbyOne called "What to Shoot When There is Nothing to Shoot." A class that is a bit different than most because it's not about how to shoot but what to shoot. We discussed self assignments and how they can help you see things you wouldn't have ordinarily seen. The class also talks about places, times and objects to shoot. They also discussed workshops and some of the things to look for in choosing a workshop or instructor as well as how to act on one so that you get the most out of the experience.
Sam and Mike talk about job searching, sketch ideas, a new grassroots marketing campaign and Katie sits in as the sidekick!
