Oil and gas occur in the tiny spaces between grains of rock, often three to four kilometres below the surface of the earth or sea floor. Have you ever thought about the problem of figuring out where it is, how much is there, how to get it out and what its worth? This is the job of a petroleum engineer. Petroleum engineers earn a fantastic income, travel the world, and work on interesting, multi-million dollar projects. They use leading-edge technology, such as computer simulations and 3D virtual reality, to solve the many challenges of getting natural resources out of the earth.
The University of Adelaide has over 80 exchange agreements with partner universities around the world. These agreements allow students to study part of their degree at one of our partner universities for one or two semesters. International students are also encouraged to apply for a ‘3rd country’ experience. This session will detail the processes involved for students wanting to study overseas through one of the University’s exchange agreements. There will be also involvement from students who have recently returned from their overseas study and there should be time for questions.
This session will provide information on the types of University scholarships offered to undergraduates, with a focus on those commencing higher education for the first time. It will cover scholarships available for high achievers as well as scholarship opportunities for students from rural and regional areas, for students in financial need and for Indigenous students. Advice will be given on how to find information on specific scholarships, including closing dates and application processes.
Not all students studying at Adelaide come straight from school - many study other things first, work, travel, have a family. Applicants who have not completed Year 12, are mature age (over 21), have TAFE qualifications or previous university study should attend this talk as it will help you to find out what you have to do and when. After thirty years of development, digital cameras really took off in 2003 and since have managed to all but wipe out film cameras. The multi-billion dollar digital camera industry is founded on enormous advances in optical sensors, micro-motors, displays, system-on-chip integration, data compression, memory devices, high efficiency energy storage and human-machine interaction. In this talk we take a look inside the digital camera and show how this one device relates to studies in electronics, computer systems, telecommunications, avionics and sustainable energy.
