Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Vikki: My son had kawasaki disease at 5yo. In hospital for week, got 2 IVIG treatments & high doses aspirin. Heart always looked good. Hes 16 & has been dealing w mild hearing loss& tinnitus, what can he do to lessen ringing or reverse? Assuming it was caused by the disease. Covid made it worse (no shot). Dizzy when it's at its worst. Avoids loud places, like movie theatre/church. Tried hearing aids but says didn't help. Healthy otherwise. Also what do you know about Kawasaki& future complications? TY Fiona: I have used your products to correct my autoimmune issues, thank you so much for helping me. My daughter is fighting a EBV infection and is so exhausted every day. She has just had an IV vitamin C treatment. She also has Enterococus Avium detected in stool. Bifidobacterium bifidium and breve, Lactobacillus plantarum, casei and acidophlis have low readings. What is the best protocol for her to follow please Jay: Hi Dr. Cabral I want to thank you and your team for all the work you do - it has been life changing for both me and my clients. I ran the big 5 did FM 21 detox, HMD, Ultimate sleep, Estrogen detox, and in the CBO protocol. I am wondering if you could tell me when I could retest to see improvement (looking to concieve - want to make sure everything is optimized). For reference I had low DHEA, high cortisol, estrogen dominance, + mercury, + aluminum candida, and oxalic acid. Patricia: Dear Dr. Cabral, thank you for all the information and knowledge you share, it has really made a difference in my life. This question is related to my father, he is 84 years old and recently diagnosed with skin cancer on different areas on his face,we believe it was caused to sun exposure and or chemicals due to his job when younger as a Petroleum Engineer working in the field. He has molds in his face and his back, some of those cancerous. One was recently removed from his tear duct cancerous. He is scheduled to have surgery soon for all the others found. Is there any recommendation you can give me on things that he can do before and after the procedure related to diet and supplements that can help him heal faster and prevent recurrencies? I value so much your opinion. Thank you so much Fernanda: I bought an EquiLife heavy metal detox kit for me and my husband and I just did your regular detox course online. Now I am wondering how these 2 compare. We don't want to lose weight as we are overall healthy already. We have completed three 5-day fasts using another product (Prolon) recently. How does a 5-day fast compare to EquiLife 7 day detox as far as removing toxins go? Will the removal of toxins in a 5-day water only or Prolon fast be compromised because there may not be enough amino acids to aid the phase 2 detox pathways? Should I do the regular detox before the heavy metal one? Please feel free to email me directly if that is not a question that you would like to answer on the podcast. FYI: I am also currently an IHP1 student and I bought 8 of the books you recommended so far. Hydrocarbon Man Memoirs of a 20th-Century Oil Business Executive: Experience the Age of Energy from an Oil Executive's View—One Who Has Witnessed the Trials ... of an Industry Fueling Our Lives by Ronald Goodman NelsonRonald G. Nelson grew up on a central Minnesota dairy farm, is a Petroleum Engineer and holds a B.S. and M.S. from the University of Minnesota. Mr. Nelson's career spanned many countries and major oil field production areas, including Libya, the North Sea and various US oil and natural gas fields. He has previously had articles published in periodicals such as The Petroleum Journal, and The Oil and Gas Journal. He was an early proponent of using “Tension Leg Oil Platforms” in the North Sea, an idea that was eventually adopted almost universally by the UK, The Netherlands and Norway for producing oil from deep sea fields in the North Sea and many other areas of the world. Prior to the development of the Hutton Field in the North Sea, the UK was almost entirely reliant on its coal mines and Middle East oil for its energy, but became a net exporter of oil after it learned how exploit its North Sea Fields using Tension Leg Platform concepts. He also pioneered some now common techniques for increasing oil field production by injecting chemicals to extend the life an oil producing areas and therefore increasing the amount of oil that could be produced from those fields, often by more than 20%https://www.amazon.com/Hydrocarbon-Memoirs-20th-Century-Business-Executive-ebook/dp/B0CCCQ7YF9/ref=sr_1_1?qid=1698975478&refinements=p_27%3ARonald+Goodman+Nelson&s=digital-text&sr=1-1&text=Ronald+Goodman+Nelsonwww.RonaldGoodmanNelson.com http://www.KingPagesPress.com http://www.bluefunkbroadcasting.com/root/twia/11923kpp2a
Tom welcomes back Petroleum Engineer and Analyst Michael Lynch to discuss the big movers in the silver market. He provides diagrams of how metals flow from the market to the retail level, and mentions how the United States Mint is legally required to meet the public's demand for gold and silver Eagles, though not other mint products. Michael covers the costs for producing Silver Eagles, as well as how the premiums have changed lately. He believes the Mint's production issue is due, in part, to a lack of available blanks from supplier mints such as Sunshine Mint, which have experienced labor shortages and production challenges. He believes that Blackrock's Ishares SLV Trust is being used to heavily influence the market, keeping everyone happy but the retail buyers. Michael suggests the Mint could solve its problems by bringing blank production in-house; this would give them more flexibility with production. He also suggests silver stackers consider selling ASE's and buying larger bars in order to minimize premiums and get more ounces. "Our industry, because of its complexity, it needs technology. And technology is a very good tool to reduce risk, because it allows you to have this digital model of your reservoir or your facilities, and it gives you a degree, to reduce risk, and that's valuable." In this episode, I'm in conversation with Mario del Pino who is a petroleum engineer and entrepreneur. Mario represents the next generation of oil industry professionals and his perspectives on the industry are helpful to understand how to improve the attractiveness of the industry to talent. Mario has spent several years gaining deep education in petroleum engineering, and is a self-professed nerd on technology. He has worked a major gas play in Peru for several years, and during the pandemic, helped deploy innovative solutions to bridge the challenges of social distancing in operations. He has left oil and gas to help companies with their various transition challenges. "Digital technology in the industry has been so heavily dominated by major players that innovation has been lagging a lot. You have this kind of oligopolies, where you have certain very well established companies that they have their software, there's not that much incentive to develop new tools." Mario del Pino is not only an academically stubborn Petroleum Engineer, having a Bachelor and two Master degrees in the subject, but also a fierce advocate of the role of our industry as a catalyst for economical development. With only 30 years, he has experience in drilling operations, surface facilities construction, production and transport operations, and project engineering. Over the last years he has embraced the world of data, having worked with most of the state of the art technologies that are disrupting our industry, including digital twins, machine learning models, smart wearables, drone-driven surveyors, and more. He is also an active member of the Society of Petroleum Engineering, being the Young Professionals Chairperson of the SPE Lima Section, and has recently been selected to be part of the SPE International Young Members Engagement Committee "A bunch of brilliant, really young people eventually left the industry, and that's a huge loss for the industry, because we have people that right now are working at Google or Facebook. We've lost that massive potential..." http://www.linkedin.com/in/mariodelpino

LISTEN TO THE POST - Mining Crypto Downhole: Use Cases for Blockchain in Oil & Gas In this week's brew:Mining Crypto Downhole: Use cases for Blockchain in Oil & Gas by Neelendra NathPercolator Job Board & Talent CollectiveVisual Thought of the Week featuring creative by Visualize ValueDeep dive in marketing tips - a thread of threads on twitter by VictorPOSTMining Crypto Downhole: Use Cases for Blockchain in Oil & GasA couple of weeks ago, I got an invitation to be a part of a panel on ‘application of blockchain in energy industry', to share the oil & gas perspective. Now, application of blockchain in Oil & Gas isn't really a very new discussion, nor a very hard to understand one. Initiatives withing the industry have been put in place as early as at least 2017. Yet, when you try to read up or talk to the people working in the industry, there is awfully little to show for. Five years hence, while blockchain isn't anymore a niche technology, it's utility in oil & gas is still being put across as a very novel approach. It shouldn't be.Is there a case for Blockchain in Oil & Gas?Short answer. Certainly.Like any other traditional large industry, oil & gas is marred with challenges which comes with large scale operations, multiple stakeholders, cross-market transactions and a huge data management. The point of inefficiencies is a lot and given the sheer scale of the industry, each can bleed billions in terms of value lost.Over the years, fossil fuel industry has gained a somewhat ‘edge of the society' status – it is still extremely critical for the way of life we have; yet is largely unwanted for huge footprints it leaves in terms of climate impact. Under such circumstances the pressure, from the investors, regulators and people at large, is immense on the industry to be leaner, efficient, low impact and transparent. Blockchain, as a technology, can enable all of that. The obvious use cases leveraging Blockchain technologyThere are a lot of use cases, which are obvious and have been well evaluated in other industries such as finance, logistics, shipping etc. In fact, even oil & gas have done a pilot which gave commendable results. In 2020, a OOC Oil & Gas Blockchain consortium of about ten companies, including ExxonMobil and Chevron, did a pilot which showed incredible results decreasing process workflow from 90-120 days to 7-9 days and steps required down to 7 from 16 with no manual intervention. The fundamental of the blockchain use cases lies in knowing operative inefficiencies, reducing the costs associated with them through secured interoperability among systems of multiple stakeholders.Automating Transactions with Simultaneous AccessA lot of invoicing and reconciliation process still requires manual intervention, especially when multiple intermediary and stakeholders are involved. By bringing transactions on blockchain, each party – sellers, buyers, financers, banks, regulators etc. – can have a single immutable record of truth simultaneously. It enables real time cash & fiscal management, frees up working contract and reduces contract leakage, even across different sovereign jurisdictions. It cuts down on time needed for process workflow by providing auto validation and ensures end to end transaction security. Each transaction stays on record with provenance available to all stakeholders and can be readily made available to any new entity by giving access to the shared ledger.Maintaining Safety & Security StandardsOil & Gas industry have some of the highest risk operations and activities. It needs to keep extremely high standards for sourcing, testing, licensing, training for both personnel and equipment that is used. A lot of these activities involve multiple contractors and subcontractors.A private blockchain among the involved parties can keep a complete record of employees and contracted workers, their exposures, health risks, clearances, trainings etc. Also, a complete transparency can be brought in for maintenance and testing of safety critical equipment. Blockchain can also be used to implement project/operation/companywide security and access clearance for locations, information and data.It can be extremely useful in reducing unsafe practices, and saves the time lost in conducting multiple verifications.Impact Monitoring & Climate Compliance TransparencyBlockchain can be used to more effectively record events and evidence to keep track of adverse impact of the operations, steps taken to mitigate, and efforts being put in place to be compliant. The regulator can keep an almost real-time view of compliance status and raise alarms when needed.Companies themselves can also ensure and track that all its suppliers, vendors and subcontractors are meeting the climate standards that has been set. Having a clear and traceable record of this information, can help organizations build reputation and trust for green finance.Provenance and TraceabilityBlockchain creates opportunity to build system which allows commodity tracing, end to end which ensure the provenance of every barrel. It can help reduce prevalence of unethical produce and manoeuvres against sanctions. Having a method to trace back commodity to its who source and supply route, can also help figure out the impact individual unit is creating and true differentiation between low footprint and high footprint fuel could be made.Same holds true for all kind of asset acquisition and mobilization that happens in the industry, from land to machinery to chemicals. The ability to trace them up to their source can bring much transparency and hence trust in the industry. These are few examples of simple use cases which have parallel in other industries reaching maturity. But in truth wherever there is need for data storage, data distribution and validation from multiple stakeholders, blockchain can be implemented and will be useful for more efficient workflow. The not so obvious use cases for Cryptocurrency and NFTsYes, I am talking about that part of blockchain technology, which many just roll their eyes over. But you got to give that beyond memes and funks, there is a very real point and purpose which likes of Bitcoin can serve.Obviously, they are not extremely popular with financial institutions and governments across the globe as they seem to be directly gunning for one thing which essentially is their complete monopoly. Money. But slowly and steadily they are opening to it. In time one would think legacy industries will also look at them for potential utility. There are a few I can think of which can shape up eventually. Why not mine bitcoin instead of flaring the gas?Completely practical and already in practice with wind farms. The idea is that any energy production which is lost because of limiting factors – storage, processing etc. instead of letting go can be jacked to a mining rig and cryptocurrency such as bitcoin can be mined producing some value and reducing immediate loss. The clear case from oil & gas is the flaring. Associated gas getting flared is a monumental waste. Onsite rigging of cryptocurrency mining unit can consumer that and create a monetizable asset and create value for the producer. Can there be a cryptocurrency pegged against oil?Given that oil is a scarce resource, it does make a case for an industry wide cryptocurrency pegged against the oil itself. It would eliminate the need of external intermediary for transaction among parties within the industry.Where is NFT in all this?It can be a bit farfetched but IP ownership, data allocation and innovation partnerships can be some use-case where a non-fungible token makes sense. For example, bulk of subsurface data stay under-analysed and under-utilised. They can be offered as NFT to crowd source analysis. It can be used to encourage research contributions, where any individual who end up making meaningful contribution, say a piece in algorithm – can own the specific contribution as an NFT.More than a decade ago, when I graduated as a Petroleum Engineer, I started working on a solution which enabled crowdsourced research input and contribution to large company project by engineering students across universities. Needless to say, it didn't workout. Blockchain would have been the perfect way to bring them together, NFT to own the contribution and cryptocurrency to reward them.Blockchain, or Web3.0 is not a niche or novel technology anymore. We will soon be moving to a point where this is going to the obvious way for digital existence. Legacy industries including oil & gas has been a bit slow on adoption, and in academia there is little cross skilling that is happening. There is much value to be created and much to be saved if more experiments start happening to assess use cases.VALUE ADDPercolator Talent CollectivePercolator talent collective is a private community I am curating for individuals who are seeking high value high impact technology and growth roles. Tom welcomes Petroleum Engineer and Analyst Michael Lynch. Michael witnessed the 90% Indonesian currency collapse and that piqued his interest in the history of money. He discusses the aberrations in deliveries data released by the Comex. The Comex can never default because they have plenty of legal methods of settling outside of the physical product. The rules are that they can change the rules as they see fit. A lot is going on behind the scenes and you can't determine what just by looking at the price. Michael explains how the monthly delivery cycles function. He discusses an incident that occurred in July 2020 where the Comex instantly moved a large amount of metal from eligible to registered. This ended up being a big turning point for the market. Before this date they were suppressing the silver price but immediately after the price moved 60% higher. He shows a probable relationship between the inflows into the PSLV and a decline in Comex Registered silver during the Silver Squeeze. Michael discusses an anomaly that occurred in December of 2021 where there appeared to be off-books settling of paper silver. Bank Of America is seemingly a recent player in the silver contract market. There seems to be less metal available in these markets and a significant amount of 'adjusting' of these numbers. JP Morgan appears to be the entity currently 'managing' these markets. It seems the days of having silver readily available in vaults are over. The maximum metal that JP Morgan could have in their vaults is 40 million ounces. He plans on creating a SubStack so he can dive deeper into his economic-related analysis and models. BIO: Thanawit Ounsakul is a Petroleum Engineer with enthusiasm for business and the people behind it. He is a long-term investor who has been riding the financial wave since 2006 and blogs about his investment views. STORY: Thanawit came across a stock whose valuation seemed ok, and analysts said it would go up drastically. He bought it without further research only to make a 50% loss a year later. There was no hope of the stock rising because demand for the company's commodity had shifted. LEARNING: Don't depend on quantitative analysis only; use qualitative analysis too to value a company. Buy cyclical stocks when PE is expensive and sell when they're cheap. “Find your investment style and try to turn it from good to great.”Thanawit Ounsakul Guest profilehttps://www.linkedin.com/in/thanawit-ounsakul-ab57958b/ (Thanawit Ounsakul) is a Petroleum Engineer with enthusiasm for business and the people behind it. He is a long-term investor who has been riding the financial wave since 2006 and blogs about his investment views. Worst investment everIn October 2011, Thanawit came across a commodity stock that went down to $40 from its all-time high of about $60. The valuation looked very cheap, with the price to earnings at less than 10x and debt to equity of less than one. Analysts were saying it would go to $80. Thanawit did some math and figured it would be an outstanding stock to buy. So he bought it at $30, then the price moved up to $45, and he just kept on buying on the way up. A few months later, in March 2012, the price started going down, and it got back to $30, the price he first had bought it at. Thanawit was confident and bought more positions expecting the stock to rebound. But the price kept going down. Thanawit decided to research what was going on with the company—which he should have done before buying the stock. He learned that the demand for that commodity had shifted. Basically, the sales kept dropping quarter after quarter. Because of loss aversion, Thanawit didn't want to sell until November 2012, when he got extremely stressed about it. He spoke to one of his lecturers from university who pointed out that Thanawit's investment was a sunk cost and advised him to look forward, not backward. So he sold his stock making about 50% loss. Lessons learnedBe aware of the value trap that makes you value a company depending on quantitative analysis only without including qualitative analysis as well. Don't evaluate a company based on past earnings only; use future evaluation as well. Let go of the looser stock as soon as you can. Andrew's takeawaysBe careful because investing is a physical activity, and many people go into it not realizing that, and then they lose control of their emotions. Just because someone's an analyst doesn't mean that they're necessarily a great stock picker. Buy cyclical stocks when PE is expensive because that means they're at the bottom of their earnings cycle, and then sell when they're cheap. Actionable adviceTo adopt any principle or repeat a policy throughout your life, you must feel good about it. Find your style and try to turn it from good to great. No. 1 goal for the next 12 monthsThanawit's number one goal for the next 12 months is to publish a well-written investment article as often as he can so that his followers can be at least one inch closer to the investment world. Paula is a graduate of Texas A&M with a Petroleum Engineering degree. She travelled the world working 33 years for the oilfield giant Schlumberger . She began her career as an field engineer working land rigs and then offshore and climbed her way to being the ESG Global Director before retiring in summer of 2020. She didn’t retire for long, she is now as of January 2021- the CEO of DPM Alliance Energy Group. She is also the author of 2 books, “For Sister: The Guide for Professional Black Women,” which helps first generation professionals navigate corporate America, and “ When I Grow Up I Want to be an Engineer,” a children’s book focused on introducing girls and minorities to careers in Engineering. Paula had many reservations working for a service company as a Petroleum Engineer from Texas ATM in the 1980’s. She was the first in her family to graduate with an Engineer degree and had aspirations to work for an operator. When she graduated jobs were hard to find and Schlumberger came knocking. Paula opens up on the podcast about her reservations going to work for SLB, especially since her first assignment was land rigs. She then found herself working out of Louisiana and Texas for the next 6 years, until her commitment to working on her “days off” paid off with a promotion. Paula put effort in when others didn’t and landed a commercial role. Paula went on to travel the world for SLB taking multiple roles as she moved up the ladder. Before retiring she was the ESG Global Director. Safe to say working for a Service company turned out to be the best decision she ever made. Paula talks about how building her personal brand led to her successful career in Schlumberger. We discuss the changes that occurred throughout her career and the lessons she learned. From receiving a C grade from a Manager that wasn’t fond of her, working offshore as the only woman and taking an assignment in Australia after 6 months of giving birth to her baby girl. She explains the impacts this had on her life and what she would have done differently. Paula is a pioneer to all of us and a huge inspiration. For today's episode of the Let's Meet For a Beer Podcast, I met up with Ian Binmore, Co-Founder of Bow River Brewing in Calgary, Alberta. Ian's passion for craft beer began in the 1980's when he was a student in California. As a member of a homebrewing group called the Maltose Falcons he was introduced to unique beer styles before the idea of craft beer was even close to mainstream.Ian graduated to become a Petroleum Engineer and had a career that allowed him to travel around the world. Along the way, his passion for unique beer continued to grow, “wherever I went I would try the beers and especially seek out the small breweries. I learned a lot this way about beer from all over - especially North America and Europe”.Once Ian retired from the Oil & Gas Industry he decided to follow his passion and built Bow River Brewing with his wife Beatrice. They wanted a brewery that combined great beer, good music and a comfortable, open atmosphere. “I get a real thrill hearing customers laughing and sharing stories together over a pint.”We discuss how being an engineer was an asset when it came to building the brewery, as well as developing unique recipes as a brewer. “There are a lot of engineers in craft beer because brewing - like good engineering - requires both technical understanding and a vision to create great results”.The current pandemic has been a challenge for Ian and his team and they look forward to seeing their guests enjoying the taproom again soon. It was great to learn about Ian's journey and his passion for beer - I hope you enjoy the conversation.Alberta Beer Festivals: website | twitter | instagramBow River Brewing : website | twitter | instagram |

DN116 with Raj Jana- From a Six-Figure Job to Finding Happy Life in Entrepreneurship Raj lived a life his parents are proud of. He went the traditional path of doing well in school and in sports, taking up an engineering course that he knew will yield him a high-paying income job. He knew his parents will be happy and proud of him. He felt achievement, however, he did not felt fulfilled. He grew up in a loving and hardworking family, and he received so much love and support. This is what he attributed to why he has self-love and confidence. When he was 22 years old, he worked as a Petroleum Engineer for Chevron. He is earning six figures in his corporate job, but the thing is, he was not happy. He felt that even though he is working hard, someone else is pulling the string, telling him what to do and when to do it. That is when he started a side hustle route, while maintaining his full-time job in the beginning. Another catalyst of this shift to entrepreneurship is the incident with his mentor and cubicle mate who died three months before he’s supposed to retire. He then knew that he did not want to live his life like him and his dad who never stopped working. The young boy who did not know anything about what he wanted to do in his life, now transitioned to a young man who fully know what he did not want his life to be. These drive him to be successful in optimizing his life to help him come alive, realizing that aliveness is where true freedom exists. Learn a lot about life, investing in yourself, paying attention to what you really matters to you, how to reach true freedom and how taking action. This episode will never disappoint! Here’s What You Missed High-paying job does not equate successThe return of investing in yourselfWhy we are living a lieFulfillment vs. AchievementThe power of accountabilityWhy you need a mindset shift Knowledge Nuggets Raj went from just going with the flow to actually owning his life and living a life of his design. At first, he kept his job while working on his side hustles. His first one is selling manual coffee grinder, of which they made a million in sales just after seven months of launching it. Majority of its success is due to him willing to invest in himself and to actually do the work. [5:09] Hard work didn't actually equal success. In the corporate world, someone else is pulling the strings, telling you what to do and when you could do something. Even though its a high-paying job, that does not mean you are successful if you are not happy with what you are doing. [7:01] Instead of getting a 7% return on my 401k, you get to potentially have a 7000% return by investing in yourself. [8:15] I was living a lie. We are all living a lie by conforming to the society’s standard. Waiting for the weekend and vacation to have fun. Looking forward to retirement which you may not actually reach. [11:22] You can live that interconnected life. You can build a life that has all of it connected and you can do work that makes your soul happy and it nourishes your spirit. [14:16] The reason why I didn't feel fulfillment in my achievement is because they weren't my goals. Getting a six-figure job is not my goal, I was not doing it for me, it was taught to us by our parents or the community that having a high-paying job is the key to happiness. if you're not having the right achievements or if you're going after the wrong things, you're going to fill yourself up with the wrong emotions. All we are trying to create in our life is joy and happiness. [16:30] As you're building your life , really pay attention to why you're doing it what you're doing and what matters most to you. [17:21] Inaction doesn't help anything. So waiting to have all the answers before you take action is never going to actually get you the answers you're seeking. Important to be 60% sure and move into that direction. [20:09] Your whys are maybe externally sort of motivated, but they created a sense of internal fire. Whatever sparks something in you that feeling, pay attention to those feelings because those feelings are truly what we're actually optimizing our life for. We are optimizing our life for things that help us come alive because in that aliveness is where true freedom exists. [23:13] You are the average of the five people you learn from. It does not mean you have physical proximity to them. You can have an online mastermind community. There's so many resources at our disposal, but you have to put yourself out there. [25:00] The power of accountability. One of the fastest ways to start taking action, is telling other people you're going to do something [27:13] The reality is always a few steps behind mindset. It's about knowing what you want and then visualizing the person you need to be to go get that thing. The mindset always happens first and then reality slowly catches up. [39:16] Make your money first. Don't worry about following your passion yet. Find your purpose and you why’s. Create your your chops as an entrepreneur, create some freedom and choice for yourself. Once you have money flowing in, then you can do whatever you want. All of you have the choice once you create the opportunity for yourself. [42:09] The voice in your head never actually matches the voice in your heart. You just need to be at least 51% sure that the voice in your head isn't actually representing what you truly are capable of. Build up your confidence by picking up some quick wins. You don't need to be a hundred percent sure about anything in life, you just need to be a little more sure than you're not. Hey Y'all! Welcome back to the Started Somewhere podcast. Today we are on episode 15! A few weeks ago I had Jon Jasniak from West Texas join me for a convo. We chopped it up for over an hour. Jon shared with me his story on how he went from being a petroleum engineer making great money to quitting that job and buying land. He is an expert in land! In fact, in West Texas he buys up hundreds of acres and then subdivides the land into individual lots for resale and leasing purposes. In this episode he talks about why he does it, how he does it, what he looks for when shopping a deal, and of course the challenges he has faced as an entrepreneur. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show :) Follow Jon on IG @JonJasniack
This is the introduction episode explaining the purpose of this podcast.Welcome to the ExOilfield Resource (EOR) podcast. If you Google "How to Transition out of oil and gas" you might be shocked to find... no one is investing heavily in this space. And what's even more interesting is that most search results are Canadian - not from USA souces. There are Reddit threads, one off blogs, and a few free resources. But no one has made it their passion to figure this out.So I'm going to solve this problem - if you wish to (or are forced) to leave the oilfield... what do you? Where do you look?Hi I'm Reed Stiles and I'm creating this podcast for 1 main reason - in 2016, I wanted it to exist. Almost 4 years later, here I am still shocked it doesn't currently exist. As a Petroleum Engineer by trade, I've relied on the Oil and Gas Industry to exist and thrive to pay my salary. As I look at the economy, the technological advancements, and negative sentiment toward the industry - it makes me wonder what opportunties exist in other industry and how other folks found them. So here's the goal of the podcast: Interview folks that successfully transitioned away from traditional oil and gas industry jobs (engineers, landmen, geoscientists, finance, etc.) Pick their brains for useful tidbits that send you down a positive path of career discovery. We're not here to talk much about the oil and gas industry, there are other podcasts for that. You should walk away with career inspiration, actionable ideas, and specific resources So, if you're in the industry - give a few of these podcasts a listen! If you know someone that needs this podcast - share it with them! And if you or someone close to you should share their story.Email me at ExOilfieldResource@gmail.com Thanks and now let's get to the first interviews.
I sat down with my brother, James Metcalf, SVP Operations at Intrepid Directional Drilling. During CV-19, we have seen the market (basically) crumble. An industry that has been hit particularly hard is oil and gas. James entered the industry in 2015, when the industry was struggling. He will admit that today is nothing like when he graduated, but he still entered the workforce during a questionable time (in oil and gas). He went from a secured opportunity to having to get back out there and market himself to land a job after he graduated. James has an interesting story. He spent his last two years of high school at a prestigious high school, Saint Andrew's School in Delaware, which provided him a unique academic opportunity along with the ability to excel athletically. After Saint Andrew's, James found himself deciding between 3 institutions – Syracuse, The Naval Academy, and Marietta College. Phenomenal institutions. He ultimately enrolled at Marietta College because of the academic rigor, a Petroleum Engineering department, and a competitive crew team. James will touch on his college experience, along with internships, and the importance of them throughout his college career. James will discuss his sacrifices and the obstacles (both self inflicted and out of his control) upon graduation. Ultimately, he worked hard, and despite a long journey, at 25 (turning 26 May 1), he came out on the other side being successful and fulfilled with his career and life.

Topic: We were pleased to have Dino Marsili speak to us at today’s Episode #24 of the Outliers Inn. Dino is a Certified Master Black Belt at Cisco Systems. In fact, he is the first ever Cisco Certified Master Black Belt. His predecessors are all recognized Master Black Belts from other companies. It took Dino just under 18 months to complete the Master Black Belt certification journey. Dino shared his experience over the years. He graduated as a Chemical / Petroleum Engineer and worked 19 years as a Chemical and Petroleum Engineer for Chevron Corporation. His quality journey started about halfway through that tenure when he became the ISO 9000 Coordinator at one of Chevron’s major chemical plants. His Six Sigma journey began in 2001 when he left Chevron for Sun Microsystems. He became certified as Green and Black Belt at Sun. After 8 years and being acquired by Oracle, Dino moved on to his current role at Cisco. The conversation centered on the success of Dino’s Six Sigma Program at Cisco. Now considered a mature and well-recognized program, Dino is still pitted with challenges. Check out the discussions about the Hegelian Dialectic, Mount Stupid, and how Dino plans to beat the trend. Oil and gas occur in the tiny spaces between grains of rock, often three to four kilometres below the surface of the earth or sea floor. Have you ever thought about the problem of figuring out where it is, how much is there, how to get it out and what its worth? This is the job of a petroleum engineer. Petroleum engineers earn a fantastic income, travel the world, and work on interesting, multi-million dollar projects. They use leading-edge technology, such as computer simulations and 3D virtual reality, to solve the many challenges of getting natural resources out of the earth.
