Crown Council Mentor of the Month | Helping Dental Teams Build a Culture of Success

Dr. Kemmet grew up on a farm near Tappen, ND where his father farms and runs a water/irrigation well drilling company.  His father jokes that he stayed in the family business drilling holes.  The rest of Dr. Kemmet's family, his mother and sister, are registered nurses.  It is easy to see why dentistry, with its hands-on, practical application to medicine was a draw to him with his solid North Dakota born and bred background!    Uniquely, Dr. Kemmet attended a boarding high school in West St. Paul, MN, St. Croix Lutheran High School, then received his degree in Chemistry from NDSU in Fargo.  He went on to receive his degree in Dental Surgery from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis in 2007.  Dr. Kemmet initially practiced in South Dakota for nearly 3 years with the Indian Health Service before joining a residency program in Oklahoma for an additional year after that.  He then moved back to Minneapolis for 2 years and worked for a large private practice group dental office, as well as for Children's Dental Services, a low-income high-need dental service where he practiced throughout the Minneapolis/St. Paul area in Head Start facilities, grade schools, and middle schools.    In 2012, Dr. Kemmet made the decision to move back “home” to North Dakota.  To him, Minot was the perfect blend of city and country. He purchased the dental practice of Dr. Curtis Kumpf, and within 18 months had relocated his practice, freshly redesigned by his friend Chris Hawley, to its current location in the heart of the Town & Country Center Mall.    Dr. Kemmet loves family time with his wife Grace and their three children, two dogs and cat. They are always finding ways to road trip for a hike in the mountains, fishing with his friends for charity, or finding a concert to attend. His life hobby has been prairie dog “hunting” which really is just long-distance precision shooting. They are currently enjoying gardening, home renovations, and anything else they can do together.  Professionally Dr. Kemmet doesn't seem to know the meaning of slowing down. He is always looking to advance not only his own knowledge, but the field of dentistry itself in the rapidly changing field of airway related dentistry and growth and development, where his passion lies. He has mentored classes at Spear Education in Scottsdale Arizona since 2010 in areas from same-day crowns with CEREC technology, to treatment planning, and now focusing on Airway.   In addition to running Kemmet Dental Design, Dr. Kemmet is working to change how dentistry is taught in ND. It was Dr Kemmet's vision of helping our community of dentistry in ND through increased access to dental hygiene and assistant training.  He believes we have just scratched the surface of where we need to be.  He has a goal to double our Nursing classes in Minot as well as triple our Dental Hygiene and assisting classes to help alleviate our national shortage and grow our community.  To accomplish this, he envisions a full dental hygiene clinic where extern dentists from regional dental schools can complete their training and current dental assistants and hygienists from other areas in our country can also learn expanded function dentistry. This would help alleviate the demand for dental services in west and northwest ND and help our city and state residents with the best care possible.  Fires start with a spark, and he has no shortage of fire in his passion for dentistry.  Marvel Comics has pitched a new superhero movie, though Dr Kemmet doesn't want anyone to think that this is fantasy.  It's for real life, as Bluey would say.

Welcome to the 156th episode of the Tooth or Dare Podcast with Irene Iancu (@toothlife.irene) and this week's guest Dr. Steven Vorholt (@vorholtdds), co-hosted by Dr. Craig Harder.  Starting a dental business from scratch obviously requires a lot of money, time and effort - and then you need patients to actually come to you. But what if you could bring dentistry to your patients instead? That's exactly what Dr. Vorholt decided to do, while still coming home every night to his family. Tune in to hear how he maintains work and life responsibilities using his experiences running a private practice, and reflections on lessons learned from a failed business partnership.  Dr. Steven Vorholt: Dr. Vorholt was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and later moved to Columbus, Ohio to attend college. He graduated with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery from The Ohio State University in 2013. Shortly after graduation, Dr. Vorholt started a private practice in the Columbus area. Immersing himself in as much continuing education as possible, he eventually developed a great passion for dental implant surgery. In 2019 after 6 years of building a successful general practice in Ohio, he followed his passion and moved to Scottsdale, Arizona to take a full time position focusing solely on implant placement and restorations and also worked in dental education. He taught courses such as Basic Implantology, Sinus Grafting, Full Arch Overdentures, Implant Complications, 3D Printing Surgical Guides and more. Dr. Vorholt also helped over 1,000 dentists place over 12,000 implants in his time in live surgery education. In 2021 Dr. Vorholt received his Diplomate in the American Board of Oral Implantology. In 2022 he became a Fellow in the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and was asked to present at the AAID Annual Conference for two different workshops and lectures. He lectures nationally on all topics of dental implants and loves to partake in CE from other great educators whenever given the chance. In late 2022 Dr. Vorholt decided it was time to re-enter private practice. He moved to Santa Barbara California with his family and opened Santa Barbara Dentures and Implants, an implant-focused practice serving the Central Coast of California. Welcome to the 155th episode of the Tooth or Dare Podcast with Irene Iancu (@toothlife.irene) and this week's guest Dr. Steven Vorholt (@vorholtdds), co-hosted by Dr. Craig Harder.  What do you do after your business partnership falls apart? According to Dr. Vorholt, continue to invest in yourself and come out stronger. Like many new dentists, he graduated with heavy student debt, but has never let that get in the way of starting a practice and living life the way he wants. Even when things ended with his partner, he switched gears into education, continuously learning and giving back to his peers, teaching other dentists about implant surgery. Tune in to hear about Dr. Vorholt's full journey - and a bonus story about the time Irene thought she was being hit on by a random dude at the bar, with a slide deck containing human ears… Dr. Steven Vorholt: Dr. Vorholt was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and later moved to Columbus, Ohio to attend college. The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (01/12/2024): 3:05pm- On Thursday, a coalition led by the United States—which included the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, and Bahrain—launched targeted military strikes against the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels. According to reports, the U.S. hit over sixty targets using precision guided missiles, including some launched from submarines. The strike was in response to persistent attacks against U.S. personnel and shipping vessels in the Red Sea which have negatively impacted international shipping. But did President Joe Biden constitutionally have the authority to unilaterally authorize these strikes? Or did this infringe upon Congress' authority? 3:15pm- In a statement following a U.S.-led strike against Houthi rebels in Yemen, President Joe Biden explained recent attacks by the Iranian-backed militia group have “endangered U.S. personnel, civilian mariners and our partners, jeopardized trade and threatened freedom of navigation. More than 50 nations have been affected in 27 attacks on international commercial shipping. Crews from more than 20 countries have been threatened or taken hostage in acts of piracy. More than 2,000 ships have been forced to divert thousands of miles to avoid the Red Sea—which can cause weeks of delays in product shipping times. And on Jan. 9, Houthis launched their largest attack to date—directly targeting American ships.” You can read the President's full statement here: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/01/11/us/politics/biden-statement-strikes-yemen-houthis.html 3:30pm- In a recent email, the Chief Diversity Officer at Johns Hopkins University offered a bizarre new definition of “privilege” which included anyone white, able-bodied, heterosexual, cisgender, Christians, the middle-aged, and English-speaking—as well as several other characteristics. Leadership at Johns Hopkins quickly condemned the regrettable incident in a statement, explaining: the aforementioned definition of privilege “runs counter to the values of our institution, and our mission and commitment to serve everyone equally.” 3:40pm- Rich underwent a dental procedure earlier today and, unfortunately, the Novocain he received didn't wear off before the show began. Listeners on Twitter have a field day mocking him! 4:05pm- On Wednesday night during a campaign appearance in Windham, NH, former New Jersey Governor Christ Christie announced he is suspending his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination. A recently released University of New Hampshire/CNN poll indicates Haley is trailing former President Donald Trump by only seven-points in the New Hampshire Republican presidential primary—39% to 32%. Interestingly, Christie is garnering 12% support. Despite placing the bulk of his resources in Iowa, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis trails former President Donald Trump by a whopping 36.4%, according to Real Clear Politics polling averages. Assuming he is unable to close that massive gap by Monday, January 15th—the day of the Iowa caucus—he'll likely drop out of the race. So, what would be next for DeSantis? Perhaps an endorsement of Trump and a 2028 presidential run?  4:10pm- Rich underwent a dental procedure earlier today and, unfortunately, the Novocain he received didn't wear off before the show began. Listeners on Twitter have a field day mocking him! 4:25pm- While appearing on Fox News with Laura Ingraham, Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davies said that the Biden Administration's military strikes against Houthi rebels could draw the United States into a much larger conflict in the Middle East. 4:30pm- Dr. Victoria Coates— Former Deputy National Security Advisor & the Vice President of the Davis Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy at The Heritage Foundation—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss the Biden Administration's military strikes against Houthi rebels in Yemen. Could the strikes result in an escalation of violence across the Middle East and potentially lead to a direct confrontation between America and Iran? Dr. Coates is the author of “David's Sling: A History of Democracy in Ten Works of Art.” You can find her book here: https://www.amazon.com/Davids-Sling-History-Democracy-Works/dp/1594037213 5:05pm- Daniel Turner—Founder & Executive Director of Power the Future—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss the dehumanizing labor practices that are currently relied upon to extract cobalt, copper, and other materials necessary to produce the batteries found in electric vehicles. For example, cobalt mines in the Democratic Republic of Congo notoriously use child laborers in incredibly dangerous mining sites. So, why do progressives turn a blind eye to these violations when they endlessly promote EVs? You can learn more about Power the Future here: https://powerthefuture.com/about-us/ 5:40pm- Jimmy Failla—stand-up comedian & Fox News Radio host—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss his new show “Fox News Saturday with Jimmy Failla” which debuts this Saturday, January 13th. Plus, Jimmy talks about his book, “Cancel Culture Dictionary: An A-to-Z Guide to Winning the War on Fun.” You can listen to The Best of Jimmy Failla every Saturday on 1210 WPHT! You can learn more about his new book, which releases January 24th, here: https://www.harpercollins.com/products/cancel-culture-dictionary-jimmy-failla?variant=41285227511842 6:05pm- During a House hearing on the U.S. Southern border, Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) bizarrely stated that “our vegetables would rot in the ground if they weren't being picked by immigrants, many illegal immigrants.” 6:10pm- On Thursday, a coalition led by the United States—which included the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, and Bahrain—launched targeted military strikes against the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels. 6:15pm- In a statement following a U.S.-led strike against Houthi rebels in Yemen, President Joe Biden explained recent attacks by the Iranian-backed militia group have “endangered U.S. personnel, civilian mariners and our partners, jeopardized trade and threatened freedom of navigation. And on Jan. 9, Houthis launched their largest attack to date—directly targeting American ships.” You can read the President's full statement here: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/01/11/us/politics/biden-statement-strikes-yemen-houthis.html 6:20pm- On Wednesday night during a campaign appearance in Windham, NH, former New Jersey Governor Christ Christie announced he is suspending his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination. 6:30pm- In a recent email, the Chief Diversity Officer at Johns Hopkins University offered a bizarre new definition of “privilege” which included anyone white, able-bodied, heterosexual, cisgender, Christians, the middle-aged, and English-speaking—as well as several other characteristics. Leadership at Johns Hopkins quickly condemned the regrettable incident in a statement, explaining: the aforementioned definition of privilege “runs counter to the values of our institution, and our mission and commitment to serve everyone equally.”
