We are guest-free this week, which provides an opportunity to dig deeper into some of the topics we've been covering this season, and the biggest focus is on money… well, the economy more broadly. We always discuss the economy in relation to what's happening in the news, going as deep as we can, because we know it's the wider implications of what's going on that really matter when it comes to the economy – debt, climate impacts, and more. It's a conversation requiring nuance, something we seem allergic to these days. We'll talk about Cop30 and the lack of funding promised to developing countries, along with why it's never going to happen. The UK had a new budget announced this week, and no one is excited about it, so what is happening? Crypto has been falling apart and the global economy has been on the edge of collapse for months – what's really going on? Is it more than the AI bubble? We'll also talk about other big issues in the news, like the flood devastation happening right now in Southeast Asia, with Vietnam expecting Typhoon Verbena to strike this Friday, after already suffering three extreme flooding events in three weeks. Hundreds are dead across the region, with millions displaced, and more rain is expected. Why is it so extreme? Well according to experts, two major climate systems - La Niña and a negative Indian Ocean Dipole - have combined, supercharging rainfall across the region. We are going to talk about food security, the growing health and financial impacts of heat extremes, why poorer nations keep investing in coal and industries that kill their people, and Australia is firmly entering its hot season with record seasonal temperatures. We'll ponder if peace will happen in Ukraine after Russia wrote the plan (?), delve more into the big picture on AI, and of course, a show wouldn't be a show without discussing US political shenanigans. Whatever is happening in the world that matters, we'll be sure to cover it. Come and join us, so you can get caught up on the news that matters, this Friday 28th November 2025, 7am UK, 8am EU, 11am UAE, 2pm TH, 3pm SG, 6pm AEST. Streaming across various locations, and no doubt about it, we'd love your support. The Sh*t Show is a Livestream happening every Friday, where Andrea T Edwards, Dr. David Ko, Richard Busellato and Joe Augustin, as well as special guests, discuss the world's most pressing issues across all angles of the polycrisis, working to make sense of the extremely challenging and complex times we are all going through, plus what we can do about it. What happened at COP30? The key points on cutting emissions, adapting to a warming world, and raising the finance to pay for it

The COP30 climate talks in Belem wrapped up over the weekend, and reactions to the outcome were sharply divided. Simon Stiell, Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC, said “climate cooperation is still alive…we're undeniably still in it and we are fighting back.” Others said the COP had been another failure, with a final statement that amounted to “a form of climate denial”.To make sense of what really happened at COP30, and where the talks leave the global effort on climate change, host Ed Crooks is joined by three regular Energy Gang contributors who have been following the negotiations closely. Amy Harder is the national energy correspondent at the news service Axios, Lisa Jacobson is the president of the Business Council for Sustainable Energy, and Simon Evans is deputy editor of the website Carbon Brief. Together they discuss the arguments over COP30's statement on fossil fuels, the rise of climate adaptation as a key priority, and hopes for increasing flows of capital to lower-income countries.A pledge to triple adaptation finance for developing countries by 2035 is attracting a lot of scrutiny. Lower-income countries are pushing for clear plans for delivery, not just vague aspirations. What could those plans look like? Another key issue is China's complicated role in the energy transition. It is leading the way in manufacturing and deploying low-carbon energy technologies. But it is still adding coal-fired generation capacity at a rapid pace. Does it make sense to see China as a climate leader? It is a complex picture. The world is still off track for the Paris Agreement's climate goals, even after the latest round of country pledges on emissions, known as Nationally Determined Contributions. But solar, wind and storage are still on declining cost trends, and are making significant progress in many countries. Finally, Ed speaks with Gianpiero Nacci, who's Managing Director for Climate Strategy and Delivery at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, for a focused discussion on climate finance. Gianpiero explains why multilateral development banks such as the EBRD are being asked to do more, what makes adaptation harder to fund than mitigation, and what the new COP30 to COP31 roadmap means for climate finance, as focus shifts to next year's meeting, which will be held in Turkey a year from now.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Teague Egan faced every founder's nightmare: payroll was due, and a massive investment deal with General Motors was stalled. With his back against the wall, Teague sold his house for $2 million and wired the cash to his company just to stay alive. That "all-in" gamble paid off, securing the partnership and positioning EnergyX to revolutionize the global energy transition. It all started on a Bolivian salt flat, where a chance comment sparked an obsession with lithium. In this interview, Teague sits down with Ryan Atkinson to reveal how he went from a tourist to a founder partnering with industry titans. He breaks down the crucial pivot EnergyX made when their initial licensing model hit a wall, proving that agility is just as important as innovation. You'll learn the grit required to survive the "valley of death" in startup funding and how to execute cold outreach strategies that land billion-dollar partners. We also dive into high-stakes risk management and the mindset needed for enterperenurs to set bold visions. Whether you are raising capital or scaling a business, Teague's story offers a masterclass in resilience.Takeaways:- Teague sold his own house for $2 million and wired the funds to the company to cover payroll and bridge the gap while waiting for the General Motors investment to close.- Great business ideas often come from stepping outside your bubble, as Teague's "aha moment" happened while traveling on a salt flat tour in Bolivia, not in a boardroom.- You do not need prior industry experience to start; Teague entered the lithium space with zero knowledge but bridged the gap through obsessive reading and research.- Networking is often a chain reaction where one contact leads to another, so you must be willing to send cold emails and attend conferences just to meet a single person.- Entrepreneurs must be agile enough to pivot their entire business model if the market resists, just as EnergyX switched from licensing technology to vertical integration when resource owners were too slow to adopt their tech.- The stress of entrepreneurship remains constant regardless of the dollar amount; whether the risk is $50,000 or $50 million, the only way to manage the anxiety is to focus on the daily work you can control.- Securing strategic partnerships with established giants like General Motors provides not only capital but also the institutional credibility needed to scale industrial technology.- Founders should set "unrealistic" and massive visions because bold goals are more effective at rallying employees and investors than modest, safe targets.- Timing can dictate your business model; if your technology is too early for the market to trust, you may have to build the infrastructure yourself to prove it works.- You must be the most confident person in the room regarding your execution, as investors and partners rely entirely on your belief to validate their own risk.Tags: Startup, Entrepreneurship, Business Strategy, EnergyX, Teague Egan, Sustainable Energy, Business ScalingResources:Grow your business today: https://links.upflip.com/the-business-startup-and-growth-blueprint-podcast Connect with Teague: https://www.instagram.com/teagueegan/?hl=en

The tech broligarchy is getting a lot of attention, as is AI and the potential of a massive bubble. Tech industry insiders are calling BS on the promises executives are saying AI will deliver, while the financial market responds to every word its leaders utter. So, what is it? Is the promise real? Is it a hype cycle on steroids? We are going to dig into this, with an industry veteran who has seen it ALL across a career spanning more than three decades. We'll also discuss job losses and where we went wrong with DEI, but also where we can get it right. It's a looking back AND looking forward discussion on an industry shaping our world today. Then it's onto the news, and boy, it's been a blow-your-hair-back kind of time, hasn't it? The important thing is to focus on what really matters in all the noise, and that's what we try to do on this show. We'll talk about Cop30 so far, as well as some recent climate and humanitarian reports, the global economy because the news cycle around this is bonkers too (luckily we have David and Richard to make sense of it), possible peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, MBS in Washington, the US's chaotic news cycle, and everything else that's going on that matters, as well as what doesn't matter, which is important too. We are thrilled to welcome Stanimira Koleva as our special guest this week. A seasoned C-level technology executive with more than three decades of leadership experience at companies including Microsoft, Cisco, HERE Technologies, Sage, and Citrix, her career has spanned the globe, from Bulgaria to Singapore, London to Dubai, and everything in between. Stanimira has built businesses and transformed organizations while developing deep cultural intelligence and understanding of global markets. Today, she channels this extensive experience through RASK Tech, providing interim leadership and strategic advisory services to organizations navigating critical transitions, while also pursuing her passion for building communities and sharing insights from her global investment and business experiences. We are all looking forward to hearing Stanimira's wisdom, so do join us, and get caught up on the news while you're at it, this Friday 21st November 2025, 7am UK, 8am EU, 11am UAE, 2pm TH, 3pm SG, 6pm AEST. We are in a time of great uncertainty. Multiple crises are getting our attention – from geopolitics to war to the climate emergency to mental health and more – so how do we develop the inner resilience to cope? How do we reinvent ourselves when the world around us feels so unstable? And what holds us back from speaking our truth authentically and powerfully? We are going to discuss this and a whole lot more, through the lens of a forthcoming book - The Red Silk Dress - with its central message of courage and adaptation.Of course, the news is never boring, and we expect to spend a significant chunk of time on the BBC crisis looking at it from every angle, the latest shenanigans in the US, updates from Cop30, as well as the extreme weather events around the world this week, which include a record-breaking cold snap in the US. The COP30 climate talks are under way In Brazil. What is the point of the conference?

The Energy Gang

COP30, which began this week in Belém, Brazil, marks a decade since the Paris Agreement was adopted at COP21 in 2015. It's being billed as the “implementation COP”: instead of grand new announcements of international agreements, governments are supposed to be focused on delivering on the commitments they have already made. Host Ed Crooks and regular guest Amy Myers Jaffe welcome back Amy Harder, National Energy Correspondent at Axios. She says not every COP is created equally, and “this is definitely one of those COPs that are more of an ebb than a flow.”But that said, it doesn't mean COP30 will inevitably be unproductive. Amy Myers Jaffe, who is the Director of NYU's Energy, Climate Justice and Sustainability Lab, argues that COP30 “could wind up over time being seen as a more successful meeting than people are currently thinking it will be.”Instead of a new comprehensive global framework, the objectives for this year's talks will be a series of smaller-scale sectoral initiatives: scaling sustainable fuels, tackling industrial emissions, protecting forests, and aligning private capital with policy goals. The Energy Gang also welcomes to the show for the first time Lisa Jacobson, who is President of the Business Council for Sustainable Energy. She joins the show from Brazil to give the boots on the ground view as the conference begins. Previous COPs have generally put the mosh emphasis on government action. Lisa says that a focus on what's good for business might be a better way to spur change. Clean energy technologies are winning in many markets around the world because they make commercial sense. Policy can be helpful, but is it ultimately the business case that has to be what pushes the energy transition forward? Ed, Amy, Amy and Lisa debate the changes to US energy and climate policy, China's emissions trajectory, the global impact of EU measures, and how much of the clean energy build-out is now driven by economics rather than politics. And they wonder whether there is a central paradox in global climate policy. If the future of energy will be decided by market forces and national interests, not by anything that happens at COP30, is that a sign that the series of past COPs has been a success? We've got more coverage of COP30 coming soon, so make sure you're following us for all the key news and insight from Brazil. Education is a force for good that lifts societies out of poverty, yet education systems are failing around the world, especially in wealthy, democratic countries. One area showing real impact - not just on students, but on the communities schools serve - is effective community engagement programs. These programs succeed not only because of what students are doing - charity, social justice, service, or community engagement - but when they inspire students to become lifelong champions of social justice and community engagement. What does a successful model look like? How does it work in action? What difference is it making? How could our global education system benefit from this approach? You'll learn this and a whole lot more. After that, it's time for the news, and there's a lot going on as usual. The US has seen a legitimate “Blue Wave” across the country which has created a media feeding frenzy, the same region in the Philippines devastated by an earthquake recently has now been flattened by Typhoon Kalmaegi, with a new Super Typhoon brewing behind it. Right now Vietnam is in the typhoon's path after it intensified again, and Thailand is expecting torrential rainfall over the weekend from the storm too. Beyond extreme weather events, we had a walk-out from Miss Universe over disrespectful comments, the saga of the British Royals continues, and we'll know by Friday if Elon Musk gets his $1 trillion pay package. There's a lot more going on, but that's a flavour from the week so far.    Our education champion is Heidi Oxley-Whitnell, who is all about enabling students - through experiential learning and community engagement - to make a difference. Heidi has been the CAS (creativity, activity, service) and Experiential Learning Coordinator at UWC Thailand for nearly 10 years and is a regular award winner for her work. Loved by students and the whole community in Phuket, Heidi is a passionate force for good in a world that needs such role models. We have two guests and two topics this week, starting with sustainable tourism from a Pakistan perspective, and then we are going to dig into the importance of community building as we face the years ahead. Community is critical and it can be something you focus on in your local neighbourhood, or perhaps you prefer to be part of a global digital community? Whatever it is, it can be an anchor for the challenges we face in the years and decades ahead. We will also be digging into the main news, discussing our take-aways from the No Kings march across the United States, how climate change is already having an impact on food availability and inflation, France's economic woes and the possibility it's the canary in the coalmine for Europe, where we are with world peace, maybe we'll talk about “Prince” Andrew (maybe we won't bother), the White House in ruins, and a whole lot more. Let's be honest, it's Wednesday, so who knows what else will happen between now and the show this Friday? Joe won't be with us this week, but we have two super special guests, Sadaf Khalid, a global consultant in sustainable tourism and the CEO of Walnut Travel Tours & Consultancy. Sadaf is all about building partnerships and cooperation on the Sustainable Development Goals in Pakistan and across the world. A true champion for the environment. Our second guest is Oliver Gill, a stonemason who spends his working hours fixing crumbling buildings in the UK – a noble trade. But he is also co-founder of The Climate Crisis Club, a global community that gathers on X every Saturday to talk all things climate and everything it entails. To be part of a group like this comes with a lot, including the emotional intensity of facing the issue of our time, as well as coordinating across such a diverse group of passionate people. It's going to be awesome, so do join us, and get caught up on the news while you're at it, this Friday 24th October 2025, 8am UK, 9am EU, 2pm TH, 3pm SG, 5pm AEST. Our very special guest has done just that, living and travelling in a solar-powered bus since November 2020, embarking on an 11-year Energy Swaraj Yatra, journeying across India until 2030. He has pledged not to return home during this entire period, devoting every single day to the cause of climate correction. The Yatra is inspired by Mahatma Gandhi's principles, and it is both a living laboratory and a mass outreach platform. Now in its fifth year, he has covered 70,000 km, delivered over 1,650+ talks, and helped more than two million people become energy literate. Wow huh? After that inspiring story of action, we'll dig into the news. We are going to discuss the peace deal in Gaza and how we've all responded to it, make sense of the global economy as a lot of volatility is shaking the markets for multiple reasons, and we're going to discuss the first official environmental tipping point – coral collapse - as well as what it means, along with the latest in AI – the good, the bad, and the ugly. Of course, between now and then, more news will break in our crazy world, and we'll make sure it's covered too. We are thrilled to welcome our bus driving action hero, Prof. Chetan Singh Solanki. He is a climate action leader, innovator, and educator, who has dedicated his life to tackling the climate crisis through lifestyle change and energy independence. He recently resigned from IIT Bombay to focus 100% on tackling the climate emergency and is relentless in his drive to spark a transformation in people's minds toward climate action and sustainability, with a commitment to helping us all embrace mindful consumption and energy independence. He's recently launched Finite Earth Movement (FEM) with a vision to transform finite living into a global mass movement, and his goal is to mobilize one billion people worldwide for climate action by 2027. FEM is rooted in a simple truth: on a finite planet, consumption itself must be finite. So do join us, this is definitely going to be inspiring and get caught up on the news while you're at it, this Friday 17th October 2025, 8am UK, 9am EU, 2pm TH, 3pm SG, 5pm AEST. US Energy Policy in a Partisan Era

Following the rollback of key climate provisions from the Inflation Reduction Act, the debate over America's energy future is increasingly contentious. The passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act has eliminated, or at least cobbled, many of the clean energy incentives that were centerpieces of Biden-era climate policy.  This week, climate policymakers, business leaders, investors, and advocates are converging in New York City for Climate Week. With so much happening and many questions around the pace of the energy transition, it's a crucial moment in US energy policy. So how are policymakers facing these challenges and working to accelerate clean energy deployment in a shifting political environment? What does pragmatic energy policy look like in an era of deep partisanship? And what should the policy response be to rising electricity demand in the US? This week, Jason Bordoff speaks to Congressman Sean Casten about the current state of clean energy deployment in the US. Congressman Casten represents Illinois's 6th congressional district and serves on both the House Financial Services Committee and the Joint Economic Committee. He's also vice chair of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition. Before entering Congress, Rep. Casten was a clean energy entrepreneur and consultant, serving as CEO of Turbo Steam Corporation and as founding chairman of the Northeast CHP Initiative. Send me a messageIn this week's replay episode of the Climate Confident Podcast, I bring back one of my favourite conversations from earlier this year - my discussion with Jarand Rystad, founder and CEO of Rystad Energy, about the global energy transition and whether we're truly moving fast enough to meet climate targets.Jarand makes a compelling case that the shift to renewables isn't just about climate, it's driven by the simple economics of cheaper, better technologies. Solar, wind, and batteries are already beating fossil fuels on cost, and countries like China are proving just how fast this transition can accelerate. In fact, they've already hit their 2030 renewable targets six years early, while the US risks ceding leadership in the technologies of the future. We explore the three pillars of decarbonisation - clean electricity, widespread electrification, and tackling the “last 20%” of hard-to-abate emissions through hydrogen, CCS, and sustainable fuels. Jarand also dives into the overlooked challenges: from aviation's limited options to land-use pressures, long-duration storage, and the politics that can either speed us up or hold us back. One of my favourite takeaways? The transition isn't a question of if, but how fast. Policy choices, investment in disruptive technologies, and global competition will decide whether we land closer to 2°C or push down towards 1.5°C of warming. If you missed this episode the first time round, now's the time to catch up. Follow us on YouTube---------Today, we have a great episode with Joe Rodden from Lydian. And we are talking all things eFuels and their story. Lydian uses Co2, Water, and abundant Green Energy to create eFuels/SAF. And because of their flexible run method, they can do it profitably, consistently. In the recent past there has been a huge demand for SAF that has been hard for major airlines to procure. In part because the technology was not there, but mostly because there were no plants up and operating. SAF plants are assumed to look like chemical production facilities… ie: always on. This way the cost of the investment is paid back soon. Lydian made sure they used inexpensive materials to create their system. And they made it to start and stop whenever there is excess electricity being produced. It's a game changer. On top of this, Joe has a great story. A story that I'm sure you'll enjoy on today's episode. In the time since she became Prime Minister of Barbados in 2018, Mia Mottley has become known as a moral force for action on climate change. The Bridgetown Initiative, which she launched at COP26 in 2021, transformed the conversation around climate finance – pushing rich nations to do more to support developing countries struggling with the impact of climate change. But as the US retreats from climate action, her bold vision faces new challenges. At the Sustainable Energy for All Global Forum in Barbados, she tells Akshat Rathi why she remains optimistic, and she spoke about the role of pragmatism in tackling the climate challenge. 545 ADHD Growth Journeys An Alumna Coaching Experience and My Path towards Sustainable energy management - Group Registration Ends this Week

In this episode of ADHD reWired, I'm pulling back the curtain on two intertwined journeys: my own path toward sustainability and the incredible growth story of Jessica, an alumna of our ADHD Coaching and Accountability Groups. As I've navigated my own challenges with burnout and the pressures of juggling too much, I've made a commitment this year to focus on what matters most. My word for the year—sustainability—has reshaped how I approach my work, my energy, and even this podcast. Jessica's story adds another layer of depth to this episode. After feeling stuck, overwhelmed, and disconnected while pursuing her PhD, Jessica joined our fall coaching group. Through her deeply personal and reflective audio journal, she shares how the program helped her build sustainable systems, reconnect with her goals, and find the motivation to tackle her work and her life with renewed energy. From discovering the power of accountability teams to replacing old habits with more supportive ones, Jessica's transformation offers hope and inspiration for anyone seeking to live more intentionally with ADHD. This season, we've made changes to our coaching program to better support ADHDers like you. Now 8 weeks instead of 10, the program is more focused and accessible. We've also introduced on-demand access to our yearly planning sessions, allowing you to go at your own pace. These adjustments reflect the principle that less is truly more when it comes to creating meaningful and lasting growth. The final registration events for our Winter Coaching and Accountability Groups are Wednesday and Thursday of this week, so now is the time to take the next step. If you're ready to stop juggling fireballs and start building a more sustainable, ADHD-friendly life, visit to pre-register today. Tune in to hear Jessica's story, learn more about what makes our coaching groups so transformative, and find inspiration to start your own growth journey. Together, let's challenge internalized ableism and reimagine what it means to thrive with ADHD.
