We have an exciting show lined up, where we will go big picture on how we can cut through information overload, understand the "Great Convergence", identify the "350-year empire cycle" currently playing out, connect the dots between seemingly unrelated global events, identify the "hubris syndrome" in real-time, decode AI-driven influence campaigns that shape public opinion and distract from deeper systemic shifts, understand how to develop "future-ready" decision-making skills, and understand a global currency reset and what it means for your privacy, wealth, and economic future. A BIG topic, but that is the nature of the polycrisis – and it needs to be understood by interlinking all the challenges and interpreting what that bigger story means to all of us. We will of course discuss the latest news that matters, from the LA riots, to the Madleen, why US RFK Jr removing all 17 members of a committee that issues official government recommendations on immunisations matters to all of us, the World Banks latest report, and more. To help us discuss all of this, we are delighted to welcome Michael Haupt as our very special guest, the creator of NEXUS 2030. He is an independent, cross-disciplinary systems researcher and Strategic Foresight Practitioner known for connecting the dots between global finance (like CBDCs and private stable coins), policy shifts (like the Pandemic Agreement, Climate Goals, Mar-a-Lago Accord), and emerging technologies (like AI, sixth generation warfare). Michael has more than four decades of experience analysing complex systems, and he has a passion to help you see the bigger picture, so that you can make sense of accelerating complexity and make better decisions. You can sign up to Michael's NEXUS 2030 course https://2030.michaelhaupt.com/class. Listeners voted and told us this summer they wanted us to tell them more about the future world of work. Jeff and Tricia will bring listeners an incredible lineup of experts from a broad range of industries to tell us more about where we are heading. The summer series is proud to partner with Alongside. Tune in June 16th to catch the first episode in our summer of great conversations.
It's time to get The Sh*t Show on the road, with a goal to untangle the polycrisis and make sense of the complexity. We'll look at the polycrisis from all angles, including the vast issues under the umbrella of the planetary crisis, geopolitics and war, technology risks, societal collapse, mis- and disinformation, propaganda, lack of trust in institutions, economic risks, inequality and poverty, equality, all the way through to the global mental health crisis – just as a taster. This show joins forces between The Know Show and Climate Courage, and while we appreciate some think the “swearword” inappropriate, the truth is - we ARE in a sh*t show, and facing up to this time is important. The show will take different elements of both shows, with three core discussion areas, and in our kick off episode, we are going to discuss what's really keeping the sh*t show on the road. Is it business in all its forms, OR is the “forcing” coming from governments and Boomers in OECD countries? Our second topic is AI. Everyone is either excited by it or terrified by it, but the societal implications are becoming clearer – what does it mean to us and how can we prepare? Equally, can earth deliver this promise? Our final topic is the planetary crisis. We'll discuss recent news and research, explain why it's important and what we can do about it. All three areas will have actions we can take, whether as individuals, societies or globally. We're not just going to focus on problems, because if we're not offering solutions, we're not helping. There'll be a lot more to discuss, but this is the core focus for this week. Why not come and have a listen and get involved in the conversation? We'd love to have you. Join us Friday 6th June 2025, 8am UK, 9am EU, 2pm TH, 3pm SG, 5pm AEST. Streaming in various locations. In this episode, Must Read Alaska Show host Ben Carpenter delivers a robust, real-time debrief from the Alaska Sustainable Energy Conference, hosted by Governor Mike Dunleavy in Anchorage. Carpenter walks the audience through the key takeaways, the tone of the event, and the overarching vision shared by political and industry leaders, particularly from the Trump administration, about Alaska's pivotal role in national energy policy, security, and economic revival. With hundreds of attendees from around the globe, the conference presented Alaska not as a remote outpost, but as a strategic energy powerhouse whose development is critical not only for the state but for national and global security. Carpenter closes the episode with a rallying cry for Alaskans to take ownership of their future: Energy is the starting point of economic renewal. Alaska has resources, public support, and geopolitical necessity on its side. It's time to structure policy and fiscal mechanisms to reward growth and self-reliance, not government expansion.

Why are there so few offshore wind farms? Are objections to wind farms harming our energy security? All to discuss with Hannah Daly, Professor in Sustainable Energy at University College Cork.
Are you guffawing a lot at the news these days? The hypocrisy of it all? Whether it's the “gift” of a $400 million luxury plane to Donald Trump (which will cost $1 billion to get off the ground), the idea of white Afrikaners as refugees, or even the Pope's style of Christianity too woke according to MAGA, there's definitely a lot to guffaw at these days. The hypocrisy is quite stunning, so what are we to make of it all? Is it good for the world, or is it the beginning of a new and confusing dark age? Meanwhile, Trump and the CEOs of America's most prominent companies are signing major deals in the Middle East, mainly in defense, aviation, energy, mining and artificial intelligence, sanctions on Syria have been lifted, Netanyahu is out in the cold (or is he) and deep sea mining is going to happen in order to counter China's mineral dominance – a “deep sea gold rush” is on the way – but at what cost to life on earth?Beyond the US and the shenanigans happening on a daily basis, Africa is being hit extremely hard by climate change, children born in 2020 will face 'unprecedented lifetime exposure' to climate extremes, extreme weather events in Australia (only two events) will cost insurers nearly $1 billion so far in 2025, Putin isn't going to Turkey for peace talks, and bombs continue to fall on women and children in Gaza. There's a lot to take on board, so come and join us, Friday 16th May, 8am UK, 2pm TH, 3pm SG and 6pm AEST.To help us this week, we have Rebecca Downie joining us. Rebecca is passionate about the news and world affairs, and professionally is a personal branding photographer, the go-to photographer for entrepreneurs who are the face of their brand, a professional speaker, personal branding expert, as well as leader of The Athena Network Singapore, a professional networking community for female professionals. She is a great addition to our show and we're thrilled she said yes. The Know Show is a Livestream held every fortnight on Friday, where Andrea T Edwards, Tim Wade and Joe Augustin, and at least one special guest, review the news that's getting everyone's attention, as well as perhaps what requires our attention. We'll talk about what it means to us, the world and we hope to inspire great conversations on the news that matters in the world today. The Know Show is based on Andrea T Edwards Weekend Reads, which are published every Saturday on andreatedwards.com, and covers the planetary crisis, topical moments in the world, global politics and war, business and technology, social issues, and passion/humour/history. Send me a messageIn this episode of the Climate Confident podcast, I spoke with Laura Miranda Perez, Chief Communications & Sustainability Officer at Oxford PV, about one of the most important developments in solar tech today: perovskite-silicon tandem solar cells. We unpacked how Oxford PV's approach improves solar panel efficiency from the typical 20–22% to over 30%, and why that matters not just for land use, but also for grid capacity, system costs, and the speed of global decarbonisation. Laura also explained how tandem cells work, why silicon has hit a performance ceiling, and how perovskite offers a new path forward. We dug into the real-world implications:Why higher efficiency panels lower the cost of electricity, not just hardwareHow tandem solar can reduce emissions by 20% or more, even compared to conventional solarWhat's holding Europe back in solar manufacturing, despite strong deployment figuresWhy utilities, not just residential customers, are driving early demand for Oxford PV's techLaura also addressed common misconceptions about solar, including whether it works in cloudy weather and the overblown concerns about solar panel waste. If you're working in clean energy, manufacturing, or just curious about where solar is headed, this is a must-listen conversation.

Follow us on YouTube---------Today, we have a great episode with Joe Rodden from Lydian. And we are talking all things eFuels and their story. Lydian uses Co2, Water, and abundant Green Energy to create eFuels/SAF. And because of their flexible run method, they can do it profitably, consistently. In the recent past there has been a huge demand for SAF that has been hard for major airlines to procure. In part because the technology was not there, but mostly because there were no plants up and operating. SAF plants are assumed to look like chemical production facilities… ie: always on. This way the cost of the investment is paid back soon. Lydian made sure they used inexpensive materials to create their system. And they made it to start and stop whenever there is excess electricity being produced. It's a game changer. On top of this, Joe has a great story. A story that I'm sure you'll enjoy on today's episode. Volcanologist Teresa Ubide opens volcanoes up from the outside, like a doll's house, searching for tiny crystal balls to help her predict when the next eruption might occurHumans have always had a complicated relationship with volcanoes — they are striking to look at and create fertile soils for farming, but they can be destructive and deadly.Today, around 10 per cent of the world's population lives within 100km of an active volcano, which means volcanology — the science of studying volcanoes — is becoming increasingly important.Volcanologists like Teresa Ubide, spend their time getting to know the 'personalities' of different volcanoes: how they work, the composition of the magma, the likelihood of eruption, and how spectacular that explosion of lava could be.When Teresa was a little girl, a teacher opened her imagination up to what she calls the 'guts of a volcano' and today, as an Australian Research Council Future Fellow and a lecturer at the University of Queensland, she travels the world visiting volcanoes and predicting their future by looking at tiny crystal balls. This episode of Conversations explores natural disasters, Pompeii, Mount Vesuvius, La Palma, Stromboli, Spain, Italy, Argentina, copper mining, sustainable mining, electric vehicles, smartphones, geology, magma, exploration, epic history, chemistry.

In this episode of the How to Protect the Ocean podcast, host Angelo interviews Mark Zacharias, the Executive Director of Clean Energy Canada. The discussion centers around a rebuttal to an article published by the Fraser Institute, which claimed that renewable energy is going to be significantly more expensive than anticipated. Mark Zacharias addresses three main arguments presented in the Fraser Institute article: Renewable Energy Costs: The article suggests that renewable energy drives up costs and is intermittent, making electricity grids less reliable. Mark counters this by highlighting examples from jurisdictions like South Australia and Iowa, where the transition to renewable energy has led to lower electricity costs. He notes that in Alberta, recent renewable energy procurements have resulted in power bids as low as $0.05 per kilowatt hour, significantly cheaper than the retail electricity rates. Impact of Climate Policies on the Grid: The article argues that climate policies, such as EV sales mandates and natural gas bans, will overwhelm the electricity grid. Mark refutes this by explaining that EVs have a minimal impact on grid demand and can even contribute to grid stability through vehicle-to-grid technologies. He also emphasizes the efficiency of heat pumps compared to traditional heating methods, which can lead to overall energy savings. Electricity Imports and Structural Deficits: The article claims that Canada's reliance on electricity imports indicates a structural deficit. Mark clarifies that while British Columbia has imported power during droughts, this practice allows for strategic management of resources and has resulted in significant profits from power trading. He argues that imports can be beneficial and do not signify a failure of the grid. Throughout the conversation, Mark emphasizes the importance of updated information and the need to move beyond outdated narratives about renewable energy. He advocates for a future where clean energy is not only viable but also economically advantageous, countering the misconceptions perpetuated by the Fraser Institute's article. Environmental protections before the next president could be sworn in were implemented to help save 625 million acres of ocean from oil and gas exploration. In this episode of the "How to Protect the Ocean" podcast, host Andrew Lewin discusses recent developments regarding the Gulf of Mexico and new protections for marine environments in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico Name Change Proposal The episode begins with a focus on Donald Trump's controversial proposal to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the "Gulf of America." Lewin explains that such a unilateral change is not feasible due to historical, cultural, and diplomatic considerations. The name "Gulf of Mexico" has been recognized internationally for centuries and reflects the region's shared history with Mexico and Cuba. Any attempt to rename it would require significant international consensus, which is unlikely given current diplomatic tensions. Lewin emphasizes that the U.S. cannot simply impose a new name on an internationally recognized body of water. New Protections for Oceans The podcast then shifts to President Joe Biden's recent actions aimed at protecting marine ecosystems. Biden has banned offshore drilling and gas drilling across 65 million acres of federal waters, including sensitive areas in the Atlantic, Arctic, Pacific Oceans, and the eastern Gulf of Mexico. This decision was made through an executive order invoking the 1953 Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act, which grants the president broad authority to withdraw federal waters from future oil and gas leasing. Lewin notes that while Biden's ban can be reversed by a future administration, it would require congressional approval, making it more challenging for Trump to undo the protections unilaterally. The episode highlights that the economic impact of this ban may be minimal in the short term, as existing offshore rigs continue to operate and new projects take years to develop. Overall, the episode underscores the complexities surrounding the Gulf of Mexico's name and the importance of Biden's new protections for marine environments. Lewin invites listeners to share their thoughts on these developments and the future of ocean conservation.
