This week we sit down for a conversation with Dean Smith from Tunnell Hill Mushrooms. Dean is a passionate mushroom grower in the foothills of Mt Rumney, just outside Hobart, Tasmania who has been described by some as “the Russell Coight of mushrooms”! And the best part is… he grows his mushrooms in an old decommissioned railway tunnel that was built back in 1891 and is 12 metres underground!!The railway tunnel is 160 metres long and was built as part of the Bellerive to Sorell railway line taking the fine folk of old Hobart town to enjoy a day at the races. The popular train ran from 1892 to 1926. The life of the tunnel then continued until the end of WWII with the Australian defence force taking control of the old tunnel to store weapons, ammunition and gold bullion.Tunnel Hill Mushrooms is one of only two farms in Australia growing delicious and nutritious mushrooms in a disused railway tunnel. The unique tunnel grow room provides a wonderful environment for these bundles of fungus to thrive.Dean is so passionate about what he does. He lives and breathes mushrooms, and it is his vision to have a large-scale farm producing wonderful Oyster and Shitake mushrooms and to host long table dinners, tours and events inside the tunnel. Dean also produces medicinal mushroom tinctures, dried mushrooms, mushroom seasoning dust AND even a Shitake vodka! This is a wonderfully insightful conversation and we hope you all enjoy it as much as we did!Hosts: Jayde Timms & Sam Baff from Grown Not Flown Guest: Dean Smith from Tunnel Hill Mushrooms Website: www.tunnelhillmushrooms.com.auInstagram: @tunnelhillmushrooms

King George Whiting occasionally turn up as a very welcome bycatch in the bags of southern lure fishers targeting bream, flathead and other bread and butter species, but until recent years they have been considered a genuine lure fishing prospect. Tasmanian young gun Jarvis Wall is one of a handful of anglers who are rewriting the rules on KGW, consistently catching them on lures across Tassie's north. Today we're focussing on fishing for them from Port Sorell and the adjacent coastline. __________________________ Please consider supporting the ALF podcast by joining Team Doc Lures and help keep the new episodes coming! In this episode, I talk with Mick "Maka" Kerkham from Maka Leathergoods in Tasmania. His custom leather knife rolls are sought after by top chefs and BBQ pitmasters all over the world. Minutes into my interview with Maka, and you'll be locked to his way of storytelling... and boy, does he have a great story! Maka didn't learn to sew until he was 39. Now, at 51, the self-taught designer can't get enough of it: he spends his days in his back-garden shed in Sorell, 30 kilometers north-east of Hobart, sewing classic leather knife rolls and sheaths as well as toolbelts for some of the country's best chefs and makers. All of the hides used for the products created by Maka Leathergoods are sources from Australia. Branding marks or imperfections are left to give the leather character, and customers can choose from among a nice selection of colors, hide types, and finishing touches. Be sure to follow up with Maka via the social media links below and let him know what you thought about the interview! Daniel has a great way of reminding us why we volunteer and join community sporting clubs - in that it is about creating a great place to play sport and create life long friendships.

Hänen liikkeeseen tuli käymään jopa 'tiedonkaivajia', jotka esittivät asiakkaita saadakseen sisäistätietoa. Rob was born in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia's Southernmost island State. His family lived in a colonial house in Sorell, 26 klm's to Hobart's East. The house was haunted, so Rob grew up with ghosts, or entities as he prefers to call them, as the norm. He attended Sorell Primary School and Warrane High School.Rob joined the Royal Australian Navy for four years before returning home to look after his ill parents. He returned to New South Wales and worked for the State Rail Authority in various positions, ending his time there at Mudgee. Rob and his wife and children We eventually settled on the Tasman Peninsula, where he and his wife worked at the Port Arthur Historic Site. However, the events of April 1996 (the Port Arthur Massacre) changed their lives, and Rob and his wife separated and eventually divorced.Rob's children eventually came to live with him. Today, Rob is a grandfather of two grandchildren, and he currently living in Moonah, a suburb of Hobart, Tasmania's capital city.He has always had a great interest in the stars and the universe, and the paranormal to a lesser degree. As a young child, he would sit outside at night and plot the position of the stars on a piece of paper, then go inside to see what he could make out of them doing "dot to dot.""I remember sitting in class at school, watching Neil Armstrong walk on the moon," Rob said.He I started a group on Facebook called the TUFON -Tasmanian UFO Network, and members started to grow rather rapidly, and as one would expect, from people all over the world. It was at this stage that I decided that there were very few Tasmanian members in the group, so to become more inclusive, I decided to call it Terra UFO Network ... Terra being Earth.I decided to do start the group this for a few reasons, but primarily, because of the management of this subject by various world governments, that is to say their continued denial of ANY UFOs at all. One could also say that current UFO groups may have been infiltrated by government operatives to continue the denial and stifle legitimate sightings and contacts.TUFON now has its main branch with well over 550 members, and we have branches in Canada/USA, UK/Europe, Southeast Asia, South/Central America and our latest branch, Africa. I have admins in these countries, as I think it's important for members to be able to converse in their own language, and then there is the possibility of local branches to get together for discussions and events.Air Date: October 15, 2015Topic: UFOs, Extraterrestrials, Alien Life, Paranormal InvestigationGuest: Rob NewittHosts: Karen Frazier and Chuck GotskiProducer: Cheryl Knight
